Logs for St. Ouens

31-Aug-24
Alas, this cache has been short-lived. By whatever indeterminate cause, the cache and contents have gone. Since the cause is unknown I have no option but to archive the cache as to replace it simply begs the same outcome.

Happened to be end of wharf when owner replaced log paper. Lovely spot with sleepy seal.

Gandalf here..I must be brief.
Firstly a very belated welcome to Dexter King, Kiwi Leon, The Wonderstuff, Greenbalt. OGP and Gadget-tron - new members of the Fellowship who have successfully completed the quest. I am only sorry I was not able to welcome you personally.
I foresee a time when I shall no longer be in the world of geocaching but the quest must continue and we are fortunate in that that stalwart warrior the.pud has agreed to carry the flame for all that is good and proper in the land.
Go well fellows.

Disabled pending archiving in Sept.
Appears the tree signs have gone/been vandalised which form the basis for completing the cache

I plan to archive this cache on Sep 12 if it isn't adopted before that.
It would be great if any geocachers planning to visit before that date would pick up the Jeep and NOT add any trackables to the cache
Thanks
St. Ouens

I think the cache has gone. I'll check but I intend to archive it anyway on 12th Sept.

#1028. Gandalf made a fleeting visit and caught up with some of the Fellowship!!!

Gandalf could conceivably make an appearance!

Well done Kiwicouple - a splendid effort - worthy entrants to the Fellowship hall of flames........!

#1027. Found today with Mrs St. Ouens. I needed to drop off some TBs and this was nice and handy. TFTC.

Well Done Kiwicouple! Two more worthy companions for Frodo and Sam in the Quest for the One Ring. It's clear that Sauron's might has not conquered all yet!
Gandalf

Good Lord!
And there was I fearing that the trail had gone cold and the Trees of Fangorn closed over the safe route.
What a wonderful surprise and my what worthy companions Kiwicouple will make for the Fellowship. Go well good friends. Gandalf.

#1026. Lucky last for the day. E-trex and i-phone were head to head on this one, and i-phone was winning. E-trex burst into life momentarily with 200m to go at which point I realised I'd left the cache clue way back at the car. Nevertheless with a bit of spirited searching it wasn;t long before the last of this series was in hand. Took TB. TFTC Gary.

#1023. First of four today. Always liked this location. Great camo on the container. TFTC.

#1024. After a rather circuitous car journey, the cache was soon in hand. Loved the hiding place and the camo. TFTC.

#1025. Video shop $1 special last night mean't the last of the CMC film caches was up for grabs. New the territory once I got close although hadn't been for a while - always come away thinking wow. And WOW was what I thought of the camo - top stuff. TFTC and the series.

#1022. Found with Junior Ouenette and WITHOUT GPSr.
I'd sussed out the hidey hole years ago so when I saw the cache I knew where to look. Nice autumn afternoon. Took Jeep TB. TFTC.

The safe route has been compromised. I shall need to make some repairs. Gandalf.

I have visited Fangorn, that dark yet strangely fascinating place and made good the route for men and elves. The paths are somewhat overgrown with the passage of time and though it increases the risk that Saurons hordes will descend, I have given the location of the intermediate waypoints in a form that those from the land of man will understand.

Gandalf.

Supply of translation sheets added to cache.Smile

A maintenance visit to retrieve the TB that was languishing. Unlike many caches at this time of year, the container was bone dry and in good shape.

I'm going to disable the multi-stage aspect of the cache and change the puzzle to a "nice to do" rather than requirement to solve as the tree signs are getting obscured since the cache was originall placed. Watch this space.

Well! What a great movie.
Missed it first time round - yes, that'll surprise some geocachers - that St. Ouens was a teenager in 1971 - hard to believe, but true.Big Grin
But yeah, what a movie and man Cat Stevens, wow.
Thanks Kiwi Gary and Margaret.

#1019. Quick find on the way to Okura River Estuary. TFTC.

#1021. Hot Chilli, but cold wind. brrr. TFTC.

#1018. Nice hide in nice spot. Spectacular views and sheltered from the wind. Took Geocoin. TFTC.

#1020. As you say "just another cache" on the way to Okura River. TFTC.

31-May-09
#1017. Strolled in from the gate on Wilsons Road - maybe 2.5kms each way. Lots of 4x4 traffic and a few dune buggies. Cache had water in but log book OK. Took TB which was looking a bit damp. TFTC.

Forsooth. 'Tis strange times. Nary a single traveller passes for months and then two appear. A time to be joyfull iindeed as two more trusty souls journey in aid of Frodo and Sam.

Alas, upon hearing their tales I fear the route through Fangorn is ever more dangerous with paths changing direction and bridges falling away.

I shall therefore cast a simple spell to mask Fangorn from travellers for the present until I can inspect the damage myself. In the meantime well done Kiwigary and G-2 - lets us celebrate with a flask of ale - Oh! I see you've already started!!

Be of good cheer!
Gandalf
