Logs for graemeap

22-Oct-09
I've decided to archive this one as the original hiding place has been destroyed when the cache was muggled. I've also decided to retire this user name. BUT - look for a replacement in the area soon by another geocacher. "Return to Willowbrook Hollow" will be in a slightly larger container, and in a different less muggle prone area. The cache notes will be cleaned up a bit too with better Waymarking for points of interest. Thanks to those who found this one, and sorry to the past two seekers who arrived post-muggling.

Yes - this one has been pretty badly muggled. They even destroyed part of the tree hollow that this was hidden in.
I'll put out a new cache in the area at some point and at different coordinates.
Thank you for those that found it when it was intact and my apologies to the last cacher who only found the reminants.

Dropping off the Think Pink Koala in the Breast Cancer Awareness month of October. Good luck on your travels!!!

09-Sep-09
The morning turned a bit sour with a steady drizzle coming up from the SW. However this did ensure that at 11:40 on a non-event day Yarra Park was pretty much empty. Therefore muggle issues were of no concern.
It's always interesting how empty a place can feel when you're used to it on a weekend being populated by so many sports fans
As per the earlier log - it appears that the Trackables are missing.

It is with a degree of chagrin that I claim this one - all credit for the find goes to caughtatwork.

I've been working for some time on the possible combinations and permutations afforded by the ambiguity of the clues. There I was armed with my gps - and six possible coordinates loaded in. The most likely one was occupied by a sleeping possum (an excellent hiding place - except for the possum!). Along comes caughtatwork who spotted the "yellow mobile phone" - and he directed me towards the correct GZ. It turned out that not one one my possible coordinates was correct!

I've learnt two lessons here - 1. Don't over-think things, 2. Experience is a great teacher, as demonstrated by caughtatwork's precise coordinates.

Removed the small Zebra in exchange for a little Pig. Thank you for the challenge!

Sometimes the easy ones prove the most difficult. A very busy day along the bicycle path and my gps couldn't quite get the accuracy to pin-point this one in an area with so many possible hiding spots. Eventually I spotted it just as a mum, dad and son happened upon me. "Have you lost something?". Well I guess I had to come clean and explain what I was up to - I explained to the young boy I was "looking for a treasure". His eyes lit up and I pointed him in the general direction of the cache - letting him find it. To great delight he opened the cache and helped me sign the log. I think we have a new family of devotees.

A travel bug is listed as being in here. I must admit i didn't look too closely but I didn't notice it.

Hmmm, the coordinates on a cloudy day placed the cache in an odd position - surely not a water cache! Upon a little more investigating and keen eyes finally found it at 12:30hrs. Nice. TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache.

I found this at 13:30 on a weekday. The lunch hour rush with lots and lots of muggles about. I'd done some reconnaissance on GZ prior to this date - it's quite amazing how many times my shoelaces seem to come undone at this point in the City!! Discreetly removed and replaced - I really felt like some sort of secret agent transferring the microfilm to my contact man!

I too could find nothing about the History Apparatus sculpture. I've emailed the Art department of the City of Melbourne in regard to this but so far they have provided nothing. I do recall it sits on top of what were once old underground lavatories. Indeed, the underground lavs were quite common in Melbourne up until the 1980's. The only two I can think of that still exist are one at the corner of Elizabeth and Bourke and another a MacArthur Place near Parliament Station.

As for the Maurie Hughes sculpture - its name is "Telstra Exhaust Extractor" but again there seems to be little about this to be found anywhere.

Certainly my favourite Park in the Melbourne CBD (just look at those Elm trees!!). However, failed to find this one - even after also trying the coordinate calculations provided by Tealby and also by Partic (in the logs), and checking a variety of possible locations.

Could the cache have been muggled?

30-Aug-09
Returned today to look for the clue to the MPCT series. No luck. I note the cache at the end of these clues hasn't been found since December 2008 - perhaps the clue in this cache has been lost?

Found on a sunny afternoon after a bit of rain.

It was peaceful because the flightpath today was East-West and not North-South

Left Kiwifruit Geocoin. This is a great place to drop off geocoins for their travels as its not as full of muggles here - many of the other places close to the airport are very busy on weekends.

Found at 15:30.

We travelled to Bendigo but it was raining first time we passed this point - on our return trip the sun broke through and the Gardens were bathed in light. The Railway Bridge viewed from near the cache with the creek beneath made a lovely shot. Thank you for this because in the wet weather one wouldn't usually walk to this point of the Gardens, and it would be a pity to miss it.

With the ground wet and slippery this cache was a difficult one to reach without a bit of a slide. Not too difficult to find though. Removed the SeaWorld keychain and placed in a Bottle Opener keychain.

Found around 10:45 hours. Beautiful, but cold morning which turned dark and stormy a few hours later.

Removed the GeoJelli Kiwifruit goeocoin trackable to help it on its way. Will place it out closer to the airport for international or interstate travel. Added a small gold Lion pin.

And yes - log is full.

Not to be defeated, and with some encouragement from a fellow Geocacher (you know who you are - thank you!!) I found it at 14:40 today (after a DNF yesterday)

24-Aug-09
The location is very dirty with broken glass about. Not for the faint hearted at night and this one certainly IS NOT family friendly. My iPhone application could only place this one within 64 meters (with all the buildings etc restricting transmission coverage and thus accuracy). However the alley is easy enough to find and the picture lets you know you're st the right location.

I thought I searched pretty well - but without luck (even tried the decrypted hint) and in good daylight. The sucessful logs make me want to find this one but the disgusting location means that I won't be going back to look. I guess this one will always remain a failure.

The remaining place for a log entry was obviously a scrap piece of paper that someone has added because the paper supplied is full. I didn't have any notepad sheets with me so the next person or the owner might want to consider adding one.

23-Aug-09
This is the closest cache to my workplace - I walk past it everyday and probably didn't think much about it except that I liked the artwork.

Thank you for the histry and facts about bluestone. I always knew that Melbourne used bluestone extensively as a building material - but I guess I idn't recognise it in its natural (uncut) state until now.

Found just before we went off to see the Collingwood vs Sydney game at the MCG

Added a Wesley keyring (thought the cache was a bit light on choice)

Didn't get the clue to the sixth cache either (frown). Also the contents felt somewhat damp although all still intact - the owner might want to check on that

Thanks for the cache

This was my first ever find. I also used the new iPhone application to find this - it worked beautifully (indeed the application is what got me interested in this hobby). Even the photo included with this log was taken with the iPhone.
I live nearby and have never visited the Gellibrand Hill. What a great view!!! It was also teaming with Kangaroos - I saw two groups of at least 15 in each group.
The cache was in good order, nicely hidden. I exchanged an orange flute/whistle for a pedometer.
Thoughly enjoyed myself. TFTC.
