Whew. More later.

I’d wanted to do this earlier in the year but couldn’t schedule vacation until October. Was worried about the weather so I reached out to a few prior finders. Really appreciate the advice geo.warcat and. briGiyNY offered. Briefly chatted with hydnsek about her coming with but the timing didn’t work out.

Trip up was fine. Came from the north and mistakenly let garmin autoroute to a dead end before just plotting a point to the one just outside the road heading west. Someone had campsite 19 reserved and populated so I squeezed into a spot adjacent to something that looked like a campsite but wasn’t labeled. Of course one can also park 1/4 mile away by the sanicans.

Southbound was much quicker despite my stopping for a few caches along the way.

Thanks for maintaining this coveted August 2000 cache

During my last trip to Arizona, I was touring colleges with my daughter. Being August, it was punishly too hot (112 in Tempe) for me to want to do anything other than curl up under an air conditioning vent. however, with some use-it-or-lose-it vacay time, I thought I'd visit Arizona for a few days.

After getting the otther, nearby oldie, I headed over here and parked. 1.4 miles as the crow flies would be easy-peasy at home. In the desert, hovering near 70F, it was an ordeal. Made the hide and was sitting on the rock in front of the cache resting when MadHatterJakeb walked over from 600. He gave me some great pointers on interesting hikes in the area -- so many cool opportunities you have here.

The cache insides are great. The exterior clasp doesn't really latch down that strongly and would benefit from some TLC. Thanks for keeping this one around so long. #7000 for me.

I was unable to make the big shindig Greg hosted with the bikes event, but was pretty keen on trying to visit Monte Cristo before its potential/imminent long-time closure. Picked up DibsNot and headed over to the main parking lot for our trip. The hike was *a lot* easier than the one JesAndTodd and I did last week on Mailbox Peak, so we made pretty good time. The log crossing was kind of fun - can't believe some folks are doing that with bikes, babies and serious camping equipment in tow. Since we were limited in time, we were going to focus on making it here, first, then pick up any caches we could on the way back.

Like most of the caches today, it was surprisingly difficult to get a good bead with the GPS. We had to rely heavily on the textual descriptions that, on a phone, require a lot of scrolling and diligent reading. While I was re-re-re-re-reading, DibsNot noticed a suspicious pile of geo-metal covering the location. Cache is in great shape.

I sure hope they bring this area back with some interpretive signs to help us understand what we were looking at. One building that DibsNot thought might have been a brothel looked more like a school. (Maybe it was both?) We were hoping to have lunch in the meadow, but one of the work crew helicopters was transporting (? sandbags? Columbian Coffee beans?) back and forth. Because its noise made this for less of a spot to enjoy a lunch, we headed back downhill to find a suitable spot.

Thanks for keeping the historical cache around.

Was early for the GC.com HQ visit today, so I did the first part of this - really enjoyed the excuse to peruse the heartfelt messages. The final was a bit further than I wanted to venture on a Friday afternoon, but I look forward to returning on my next visit to "The 206." Thanks for drawing my attention to the interesting statue.

Fun concept. Was worried I miscounted the tanks (thanks for the warning at how fast that point would come up), but everything added up. One problem was the final was missing- I will post a photo later. I had some materials to leave a replacement container and log. Thanks for the fun
