I really enjoy seeing the Australian Natiive Christmas Tree under the lights of the Milky Way Smile
A long exposure on the camera and some light painting by the torch to highlight the beautiful orange flowers on the tree.
Thanks for the Locationless Cache Smile

I used to do ceramics back in the early '90s. One of the pieces I painted was a Christmas Tree. It has a lamp inside, and little coloured pieces that sit in holes around the tree. When plugged in the coloured pieces glow. I ended up making 3 and both my sisters have one each too. This sits on our piano at Christmas. Its always good to see something I created. TFTC

Here is our tree for this year. Nothing special just a Big W purchase. Quite a few of the decorations were made by our son as he went through school Very Happy

This is our Christmas tree in our home in 2015. It was to be our last time this tree would be used as we have since moved and downsized. A lot of memories on that tree, from decorations that have been hand made by our children and grandchildren. Each family member has a red bauble with their name on it. Thanks for the memories. Our 2016 Christmas tree! Smile
We usr a live ginkgo tree in a pot that I was gifted more than 20 years ago. We try and add at least one new decoration a year and recently several have been ones that the kids have made.

Cheers Sonic the super bird, thanks for letting me have a glimpse of other peoples trees. Clan Griffin

Possibly because it takes a bit of effort to get it out of a high cupboard, the only time we put up a Christmas tree is when there's kids coming for Christmas. And never being huge fans of tree decorating, we hit on a system to get it done. Put a whole heap of chocolates all over the tree and a box of decorations under it. For every chocolate taken that person put a decoration on to replace it. In no time at all we had a decorated tree! Nothing exotic or expensive for decorations, just cheap coloured balls, stars etc....some even found as swaps in caches. Very Happy

This is my dad and I at our Christmas tree. The tree came with my mum when she married dad. Dad is not much into Christmas trees...that it unless there is a point in it for the Scavenger Hunt. I always put the tree up with my mum and brother.

My Christmas Tree...is Huge and the branches start at the floor and it is very wide and 7 ft. I have had it for 20 years or more and I bought it from David Jones. The whole tree is themed on traditional Victorian era decorations. I have decoupage balls and golden wired bird cages, glass bells from Germany and wooden toy soldiers. I have bought decorations from a lot of different places but they must fit with the theme and be very intricate and special.
I hope you like my Tree. Neighbours would come over every year just to see it.

The photo added to the Gallery if our Christmas Tree for 2016. The artificial tree has been with us since 1978. There are two sets of lights on the tree this year. We have a wide variety of decorations, collected over the years. This year the decorations are all pieces of embroidery, nearly all completed by Mrs y'stassie. On a quick count, there are approximately 90. However the one decoration that has been on the Christmas Tree since the early 1980s is "Drunky Angel" created by one of our kids when he was three. The description of "Drunky" arose from the rather interesting placement of the head and the drawing of facial features, as only a 3 year old could achieve. Each Christmas when he comes home, his first comment as he comes through the door is "Is Drunky on the tree?" Woe betide us if he wasn't. Thanks Sonic The Super Bird for the cache.

This is not our Christmas Tree because this year we are far from home. Usually we have a real tree and the house smells beautiful and piney all season. This tree is in the local shopping centre and is a perfectly ordinary example of a shopping centre tree. I hope you will accept it as our offering for the Summer Scavenger Series. Thank you

28-Dec-16
This is our tree from this year. It's fake and we've had it for about 5 years. The particular decoration I want to point out is the cat about 2/3 of the way up the tree. This cat seems to like climbing the tree at once per year, and then needs to be rescued.

Using as a claim for my Summer Scavenger Series.

Thanks for the locationless cache Sonic The Super Bird.

Stuck as I am at Coffs Harbour with my 82 yo dad taking way too long to recover from a bowel cancer operation after several complications (he was in Intensive Care for 2 1/2 weeks), and looking after my 79 yo mother who is blind it might be understandable we didn't bother with a tree at home, but I am in the more bah humbug school of Christmas anyway. I might get to go home next week as things are starting to look much more positive. In the meantime the tree in Coffs Harbour Base Hospital (or health campus as it is known these days) has been the closest we have got to festivities. So it's my contribution to this cache, probably much more decorated than if I had done it, and a claim for the Summer Scavenge Series. Thanks Sonic the super bird.

I cant remember where our tree came from but we think Myer. The decorations are a mix with many handed down and are up to 50 years old. Others have been made by our girls at school and we have collected a few from around the world e.g. France, UK, Russia, Finland.
Thanks Sonic the super bird

We pick our live Christmas tree on the 1st of December each year from our property choosing a suitable branch and the kids decorate as the like with various decorations that e have. Every year is different and full of joy as the kids grow up. We love the smell of the pine tree throughout the house.
On our table sits a silver tree orderment that I purchased before children (BC) which is the first decoration that is put up each year.

Our family Christmas tree & decorations purchased from K-Mart 30 years ago!

27-Dec-16
This is our Christmas tree with our granddaughter in the foreground. Every year we get a real tree and it is a family experience - we pick out a tree several weeks before Christmas and on December 1st we head out generally under the cover of darkness to cut down our tree. It will be a self sown one beside the road somewhere. We get 2 trees - one for our son and his family and one for the rest of us. Often the trees look a lot smaller in the bush - thank goodness we have cathedral ceilings! Our four children, one daughter in law and one granddaughter all have a bauble with their names on it, we decorate the tree together and each one puts on their own bauble. Decorating the Christmas tree is one of our long held family traditions.

26-Dec-16
Our Christmas Tree is decorated most years by my daughter Kylie. She loves to pull the tree out and add all the decorations. It used to be covered with home made items that the kids had made but all the pasta fell off eventually and the kids decided it was time to move on. So we keep it simple with tinsel and coloured baubles. TFTC Smile

Kids always love putting the tree up each year and decorating it. Our youngest loves trains, so of course it has a train track running around the base. Merry Christmas. TFTC

26-Dec-16
The nicest decoration was a new baby under the tree! But otherwise, this is a fairly ordinary story, shop bought tree and shop bought decorations all only a few years old. This was taken on Christmas day when all the family were together for lunch.

25-Dec-16
Ours is very simple and we are not sure of its origin. Probably one of those big stores. The decorations and the tree itself are a little sparse, but there are heaps of goodies under it. Hence we enjoyed Xmas.

25-Dec-16
We used to have a real pine Christmas tree when I was a child and so I have carried on this tradition, but for all the mess and fuss we have decided on a fake illuminating fibre optic tree. I usually like decorating the tree, but the littlies are old enough now, so this handy work is theirs. Not too bad an effort for the age. We have had old decorations which are falling apart and anything that my babies made, but this year the really old decorations have departed and some of my babies creations are hanging elsewhere. Plus we have a babys ornament that I got for my babies first Christmas's which we usually hanging on the tree.

we bought our Christmas tree in the boxing day sales about 5-6 years ago
oh look daughter say it is the right size and only $40
go through checkout and it scans at $20 ... even better

well that was till the next year when I pulled it out of the box and started to set it up ... on my own as daughter was house sitting
hmmm yep 3ft ... 3 ft wide ShockedShockedShocked

we don't have normal decoration like balls on our tree
all our decorations are special with most of them being handmade
a couple from my childhood
we don't have tinsel as our bird might choke on it

We spent Christmas at my sister's house this year so I took a photo of her beautifully decorated tree. When she goes on holidays overseas she buys one or more ornaments to add to her collection. They are often representative of the country she has visited; a moose from Canada or an English bobby. She does not have tinsel or coloured baubles on her tree, just the ornaments with so many travel memories.

Here's my Christmas tree. I always have the fresh scent of pine. It's real.

This is our Christmas tree, we've had it for several years. I brought it from Myers to replace a significantly smaller tree that I had bought for my other-half after we first met (he did not have a tree at the time and I thought he needed one.

The decorations are a combination of ornaments that we have collected and have been given by others. Particular favourites are the angels and butterflies who represent people close to us who have passed away.

If you look carefully under the tree, you'll see a couple of GCA gnomes from last year (Mr Clippy and GnoGrin) as well as Samboo our travelling companion and Seeka. Samboo has bought Seeka a special doggy treat from the markets and is just leaving it so it can be unwrapped on Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas.

This year we are having Christmas with our very pregnant daughter in Brisbane as she can not travel far at the moment. This is my first Christmas since I retired. The tree is two years old and the decorations are from previous years as well as some new ones as we have a family tradition that at least one new decoration must be attached to the tree each year. When our boys were still at home we would take them to choose a nice pine tree for Christmas.
As they grew older, we purchased one of those colapsible, wire and plastic trees.
Now that they have their own homes and families they have taken that resposibility upon themselves. (Quite rightly)
This year we have a faux tree. It consists of a new Tree Topper Angel hanging from the picture rail with tinsel, lights, some decorations - old & new and a few cards below, amongst the family photos.
It's not much but it is ours and with the mirror behind, it looks at least twice the depth.

This is Sir Douglas Fir. He may not be big, but he is a tree. There are also two deer around the tree. It's so festive. Douglas Fir has a little hat on top of his head and may sing if you wish him to. There were also presents but they have already been opened. (Shhh don't tell Santa)

23-Dec-16
this is our tree, decorated by my daughter this year. It includes several things they made at school over the year, the usual balls, tinsel & cheapy lights and for some bizarre reason a battery operated ferret attached to a ball. It is traditional - people ask "have you still got the ferret?"

also included a pic of the cat who got decorated too.

This is this years tree, bought on December 3, I think. It's LED lights were bought in Taiwan about 15 years ago, before blue was common, so we just have red, green and yellow. The rest of the decorations are anything from 1 to 20 years old. The pine aroma has become a symbol of Christmas to us.

THIS is sad. A very sad tree. A very very sad tree. I don't think it will make it to Christmas day. Crying or Very sadDon't Blink

Every year I make a different tree. I hate pines - they make me sick. My best tree was when we camped on the beach - we made everything from stuff found on the beach. It was pretty awesome. The worst tree was... toilet paper hung from the central light in our lounge room and the kids were given textas to draw the decorations on. haha. Weird but creative.

This year I was going to make 25 small empty boxes and each day get the family to put little things that meant something to them from that day (like a movie ticket or a feather found on a walk). Then on Christmas day we would be up to the box at the top of the tree and would get to put something special from Christmas day in it. It didn't happen before December.

So instead I decided to try the plant pot tree. While I was at work my youngest who could wait no longer, got her boyfriend to make the plant stand, and she bought the plants and tea sets from an Op shop to put them into. She transplanted the plants to the cups and pots. Unfortunately the way they were planted and the terrible heat we are getting out here meant they are not doing so well. They are almost all dead. Don't Blink

At least I can tick that one off my list now - done it. Maybe next year I'll post a photo of my box tree here. Smile

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The family are heading to Hobart for Christmas and we're not taking a tree with us, nor setting one up at home, so this is the (rather sad looking) tree in the office where I am currently on assignment.
The tree looked much better before Kris Kringle earlier in the week when it was stacked full on gifts. AT the moment it looks rather sad and lonely Sad

My sons after putting up our christmas tree. I think we bought this one at Myer, Toowoomba about 7 years ago and it is still going strong

Two decorations, not that you can make them out....

Decoration 1 - A christmas ornament from Hawaiee bought by one of our friends while on a cruise
Decoration 2 - A Round piece of wood with a Christmas stamp on it (one of around 400 I made for our Church in 2015)

03-Dec-16
Attached is a photograph of this year's Christmas Tree. The upper half is the only part decorated as we have a 15 month old who is very tall and troublesome; we made the poor little fellow reach up to give us a height marker at which to stop placing decorations so that they would all be safe. There's a few decorations of note on the tree this year; the little white fabric star is my first attempt at Hardanger embroidery and used gold threat which is a nightmare to sew with. The reindeer is from a beautiful store we found in Guildford, Perth, when over for a wedding. Santa in a plane is flying around the top of the tree and was bought here in our town and is probably my husband's favourite decoration. TFTC Sonic the Super Bird

Oh, Christmas Tree . . . Oh, Christmas Bush

A final logging for this (late) Christmas and New Year Season . . . on a visit to the National Park very close to my house.

Mrs. pjmpjm pointed out this glorious Christmas bush growing right up next to the cliff, but safely protected from being picked by the gap . . .

She took a picture of me but neglected to get me in the same shot with the bush . . .

Hope it's OK . . .

Leura Home Christmas Tree 2015 . . . Blue Mountains of NSW . . .

Yes, it's an artificial one, but Mrs. pjmpjm decorates it nicely.

And we have a natural, 'real' Christmas tree, a radiata pine, on our front veranda . . .

A special ornament on the lower part of the tree, from my late mother, reads 'I believe in Christmas.'

This reminds me how much she enjoyed Christmas and her Christmas trees over many, many years.

Springwood Christmas Tree
Macquarie Street
Springwood, NSW

This is my first spotting of a Christmas tree this season, and it's still only early November!

Dear, oh dear . . .

It's located in the window of some kind of hairdressing salon in the lower Blue Mountains of NSW.

Personally, I've never cared much for the 'store-bought' or 'fake' trees, nor the odd colour combinations. I grew up with real trees and multi-coloured lights. However, sometimes these odd combinations are quite striking and I've broadened my views in my old age! This one is actually not too bad, considering that it's intended for advertising on a busy street.

Might log my own Christmas tree in a couple of months!

Blue Mountains Christmas Tree December 2012

My wife gets full credit for the tree this year. Yes, it's artificial (we have one of the original old trees growing in a pot out on the front deck) but it looks very pretty, especially through the upstairs window, where it can be seen from the street. And the lights are those that keep changing colour . . . very nice indeed.

You can see all the presents under the tree, because I took this photo on Christmas morning!

I've put the coords at the end of our street, to protect the anonymity of our house . . .

The Winglen Christmas tree, which is one we purchased while living in the USA as my stand against the thousands of lovely spruce and Douglas Fir that Americans cut down every Christmas and then leave dead for collection after New Year (ever heard the story of the Little Fir Tree?) Anyway, this is covered in a mix of decorations bought in the USA and back here, plus some that the kids made in their earlier years (and now beg me to throw out!) Coords are for the local school, not my own house. Thanks for the locationless!

Hi Sonic

Please find a photo of our christmas tree as currently set up. It's not huge, but why do that these days???

We collected it from kmart about two years ago, it used to be one that the light would come up from the bottom and out the leaves, but the power cord got broken and it doesn't work any more.

The decorations are a cross between home made by the children and some purchased. I have taken a photo of a couple of home made ones, including some sort of dough made oranments made by geo kid e this year.

Thank you for the locaitionless Sonic

This is our current Christmas tree, we have had it for about 15 years. It replaced a smaller one when Mrs Y's Tassie's decoration collection grew too big. We can't have a real one as the smell gives Mr Y's Tassie terrible hay fever. The decorations featured are a little Christmas dinosaur given to Mrs Y's T by Baden, one of the children in an early childhood program she ran in the 80's; a glass angel brought by number 1 daughter from the Black Forest and our tree top angel, Drunky, made by number two son from an overlocker thread cone when he was 4.

The little kids always help alot with decorating the tree. There are usually some new things as well as things they have made at school. We love it at night when they are the only lights we use.

Is this really a Christmas tree?

It's what I found this week at Leura Mall in the Blue Mountains of NSW -- surely a harbinger of the coming Christmas season!

Located near the corner of Leura Mall and Megalong Street, this 'tree' is one of several erected near the famous strip of shops and cafes.

My Christmas tree was brought from K Mart many moons ago... The decorations are recycled each year with new ones finding their way into the collection when others are broken or lost...
The tree went up in a hurry this year due to the storms we had in our area as I can only put my tree outside and didn't want it ruined by getting it wet...
Still made a nice play thing for the kids present on an enjoyable Christmas Day...

OK so we got this tree as a second hand one from my mum.
It is pretty cool and it has fiber optic color changing lights.
Most of the decorations were obtained from the boxing day sales the last few years.

Was given this tree from My Uncle when I decided to settle down here in South Australia 2 years ago, went out and bought the tinsel and silver baubles but had already stored the fancy multicoloured ones from years ago from before we left to live in America for a short time.
Made a few of the decorations myself and some of them came from Kids school & Kindy too!

After returning from holidays it was time to remove the tree.

Not before a quick photo!!

This one we have had for about 6 years, bought at myer.

The decorations have come from parents, shops including kmart, lights from Bunnings and the star from a special decorative shop.

177. I got my Christmas present early this year when a certain FFP decided we should be together. She brought her Xmas tree and her decorating skills. Top marks all around I say.

Our Christmas Tree is a living Ginkgo biloba.
This tree is one I've had growing in a pot for almost 20 years. It came to me as a gift seedling from a friend. They collected seeds from the female ginkgo tree (yes, they have different male and female trees) located at the entrance to the old Geology building at Melbourne University.
I don't over decorate it because, although the branches are sturdy, I don't want to damage it. The baubles and such are ones that we have received as gifts (often handmade). The two year old and I even painted a couple of plaster elves to hang on it this year.

Merry Christmas to you all and all the best for the new year. Smile

Our Christmas tree sits to the rear of the house. Here it is with and without flash. It's a real tree as it is every year, bought from Rotary at Observatory Park at Pennant Hills a couple of weeks ago.
Some of the best decorations we have come from Canada - Canada Post produces some beautiful ones every year. We also have some lovely handpainted baubles from a shop in Leura, Blue Mtns.

We have had our tree for approximately 15 years. It is a large 7 footer, and very difficult to move into place once decorated.
My son and I carefully chose red decorations for it.
Beside the large angel on top, we have special small angel decorations on it in rememberance of family members who have passed away.

My wife and her colleagues are setting up their Christmas tree and Christmas decorations at the disability services centre and special school where she works. They tend to start a bit early in the season (late November) because the school section finishes on December 17th.

The two photos show the first stages I noticed this morning (November 30th). The first is the arrival of the tree (from, I think, one of the local Rotary Clubs in the Dural area) and the second shows the first addition, which is a European-style 'Advent Calendar' with four candles and many 'windows.'

The 'Advent Calendar' is so designed that a different child opens a different 'window' each day, to see what's behind (an angel, a present, a Christmas tree, a Yule log, etc.) and then every week an additional candle is lit.

This part of the decoration was actually hand-constructed by the School Principal and some of the teachers, including my wife.

I'll upload another photo next week to show more of the progress in decorating the tree.

(To preserve anonymity, I'll round off the Dural-area coordinates.)

OK time to log my Christmas Tree. Now I've downsized to a one bedroom unit on Gold Coast, I really can't fit the old tree inside. So I got the local Council to put it up in the nearby park so now everyone can enjoy it. Razz

Hi Sonic; Time for an Oz-mas. My tree is small as I generally go to mum and dad's to celebrate Christmas with them and my children - theirs is bigger and better. Got it a few years ago when working at Bronte just to keep in the spirit of the season. The decis were obtained at the same time - small but festive!! Merry Oz-mas, cheers and TFTC; OldSaint.

Here's a picture of our Christmas Tree last Christmas while on a caching family holiday near Nelson Bay. We turned the spiral staircase to nowhere into a Christmas tree! The decorations were fished out from the top of the cupboard at home and carted across the countryside for the holiday. They were purchased during an after Christmas sale several years earlier I remember clearly standing in a long line waiting for the mark down price sticker to go. Anyway they went to the top of the cupboard but were forgotten about until this Christmas and since they were in a suitable travel box....a travelling they went.
