Description
Whilst wind turbines are becomming more and more common, they seem to be an issue that divides people. They are either loved or hated by communities. Personally I love the look of wind turbines and feel that they are an important aspect of modern energy production.
This cache aims to locate wind turbines in Australia. Some are large farms run by companies and others are solo installations in paddocks.
For this cache you need to take a photo of the turbine and coordinates of the location where you took the photo (as access is often restrictive to such areas). Also consider having a look at any information signs that may be at the site.
To start off I took a photo of the Capital Wind Farm near Bungendore (still under construction).
S35° 12.773' E149° 28.316'
So while out and about on your travels you could come across some turbines, so photograph them and share them with the rest of the community. And you might even learn something about the technology.

A single turbine in a carpark.
Logging for the Cacheopoly Game.
Over a 12 month period, Musselroe produces approximately 5 percent of Tasmania’s electrical energy needs.
With its spectacular views of Bass Strait and the Musselroe Wind Farm, the Tebrakunna Visitor Centre is accessible from the road to Little Musselroe Bay on Cape Portland Road. The centre is located on the right just before the Little Musselroe Bay recreation area.
The centre includes informative displays about the wind farm, the traditional landowners, the history of the Cape Portland property, and the maritime and mining history of the north-east region.
EDITHBURGH On SA Yorke Peninsula.
A large wind farm.
Thanks for the cache.
This wind turbine is on a farm between Wesley Vale and Port Sorell Tasmania.

I’m standing next to a blade, and looking down the side of it you can see the wind turbine in the fog.

If you look beyond Muggle Hubby and I you will see a vast array of turbines.
I’ve never seen so many in one place.
There’s also an old cache GCRCW5 called Major views, and a trig point up here, well worth the drive up,
You can drive up fairly close to these turbines along this road.

The Lake George wind farm as seen at Taylors Creek. It was very windy today and I noticed that these turbines which were spinning fast when I was up close, had been stopped by the time I got back to the main road. Apparently they do this in high winds to avoid damage to the internal workings. It was good to see how huge these are. My ex-husband actually pumped the concrete pads for each of these turbines.
From Wikipedia:
The Emu Downs Wind Farm (30°30′S 115°20′E) is a 79.2 MW wind farm in Western Australia. It was a joint development between Stanwell Corporation and Griffin Energy. The site is approximately 200 kilometres north of Perth, near Cervantes. Construction of the $180 million project commenced in November 2005, and the project was commissioned in October 2006.
Emu Downs consists of 48 Vestas wind turbines (each with 1.65 MW generating capacity), a substation, interconnection to the main 132 kV electricity grid, administration and stores buildings, and a network of access roads. The wind farm is close to the coast, with a good quality wind resource that has increased wind speeds and reliability aligning with periods for peak power demand.
The wind farm provides electricity to run a desalination plant, 260 km (160 mi) to the south. The Kwinana Desalination Plant, located just south of Perth, turns water from the Indian Ocean into nearly 152 million litres (40 million gallons) of drinking water per day.
Emu Downs is accredited under the Australian Government's Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000 and as a Green Power Generator by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority.[1]
In June 2011, the wind farm was acquired by the APA Group for $170 million from the failed Griffin Group.
I don't know if this one is applicable to this cache.
I saw spotted this little wind generator mounted on a letter box from what I can see the name might light up at night, any way its a bit of fun.

Windy Hill was the first wind farm to be built in Qld. Construction commenced in 1999 with the turbines commissioned in 2000. The wind turbines are supplied by German company Enercon.

Have spotted these well-known generators in the past but never stopped to take a photo.
Settled for a longer distance shot because I was the guest of someone else, who was driving, and I didn't want to make him drive me to a better position!

Huxley Hill was the first wind farm Hydro Tasmania developed in 1997 to harness some of best wind resources in Australia.
It has 3 X 250kW Nordex Generators
and 2 X 850kW Vestas Generators
The wind generation supplies around 35% of the islands Power supply.
Thanks for the locationless cache.

A recently opened facility at Ulverstone High School is the Environmental Learning Centre. Features of the centre include a wind turbine and solar heater for energy production, kitchen garden and hydroponics for sustainable food production, classrooms and a laboratory. Active involvement in all aspects of the centre enable students to develop understandings of the importance of sustainability in their futures.
This one is so new it hasn't been fully concreted into place. I saw two similar wind turbines by the same company at the Darwin Show just a week earlier.

Well, with a couple of very large free standing solar panels and this small wind turbine, these kids will certainly grow up knowing what being Green is all about!!!!!!
I found another gate just over a kilometre further south which showed me all three turbines, but I had to zoom in a long way to see them.

(co-ords from the dirveway, not far from the "fan."
It's a vertical Axis Turbine that powers the lighting in the nearby boat ramp car park.
Extra power is fed back into the power grid.
At the time I visited it was hard at work with the wind blowing in off the bay.

Toora wind farm is a wind power station at Toora in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. It is located is north of Wilsons Promontory and 150km SE of Melbourne. The wind farm is on a ridge overlooking the small town of Toora.
Toora has 12 wind turbines, each of 1.75 MW rated capacity, with a total generating capacity of 21 MW of electricity. The power station was completed in 2002.
One of Toora's turbines can power up to 6,600 homes.
From the Builders Website:
Sinclair Knight Merz provided project management and engineering services for the design, development and construction of the $2.4 million Hampton Wind Park.
The Wind Park consists of two 660 kW Vestas V-47 wind turbines, each 74 metres in total height, and with rotors of 47 metres in diameter.
The Project, on a 500 hectare property at Hampton, was carried out for leading venture capital firm, CVC-REEF (Wind Corporation Australia) and the farm’s owners, under the Hampton Wind Park Company, led by Hugh Litchfield.
The Wind Park generates around 1.32 Megawatts of electricity – enough to power 500 homes and, because it is from a renewable source, will reduce greenhouse gases by 3000 tonnes each year.
This is equivalent to taking about 660 cars off the road per year.

The second set of pics, coded GZ2 are of the new wind powered "fans" located on the Marine Board Building in Hobart, but Cheesypig beat me to them. Just giving another view. Cheers and TFTC, OldSaint.

Google Maps tells me the area is Breadalbane..
It was quite intersting in how much the wind must vary as some turbines where spinning quite happily, some stopping & starting & others not moving at all....
