Quite a geotrail going to what seems to be where the cache isnt. Canopy interference is likely a contributor to location issues, and I didnt have my 60CSX with me to help tighten up the search area. Just the same, beautiful walk in a park very similar to a waterfall near home (Alabama, USA). TFTC just the same.

Im thinking the previous two searches were a bit off from the actual placement. If a pelican is sitting on the top of the post you are looking near, youre not going to find it. I think the same pelican was laughing at me when I got to what my 60CSX said was GZ. A little looking around netted a better hiding spot, if not a more muggly one. I touched this one with my fingers and tried to get it out with my ink pen, but simply couldnt get it out without risking getting it muggled. It was a beautiful afternoon out on the pier, meaning a surplus of muggles. Took a photo of the cache though I could not get it out and sign it with what I had with me. Will send photo later to prove I indeed found it. Logging a find though I didnt actually ink the log, but I did see and touch the container.
Using all the order of operations I learned in grade school, the coordinates I came up with put me at a power pole in front of a residence exactly 0.1 miles from the location of the sign board. Pretty sure I had the right numbers for A, B, C and D, but I didnt have time to solve the coordinates every way possible. Without using parentheses to show solution order and solving it the way I was taught more than 55 years ago, I couldnt begin to guess where this one us. Just the same, benches and tables counted while getting two traditional caches on the pier and a photo of the info board lead off into the high weeds. Better luck to the next searcher.

CO should consider replacing the log in this on. Existing log is full. Took longer to find a place to sign it than I took to find it. Im traveling from the US so didnt have any maintenance items with me to help out.
Got to GZ while collecting information for the nearby Offset cache, looked straight at the host and only had to wait for enough muggles to thin out so I could make the grab. I have a couple very similar hides though a bit less muggly. First Queensland cache after a fantastic day of whale watching on the Whale Song cruise boat. Having lunch with 4 Humpback Whales playing around the boat is going to be a hard act to follow for any other place I go or anything else I do for a holiday.

Tried this one back in 2013. Back in Pirie with my granddaughter and missus to see Shakka. TFTC

I've been through Auckland once before on my way to Oz, and decided then it should be on my bucket list. The missus (from Oz) agreed, and this time, we stopped over for 10 days on the North Island along with our granddaughter in tow for some site seeing and exploring.A most impressive amount of water going through here today. Absolutely stunning falls for quantity of water, and an excellent example of the power of water.First stop this morning after brekkie at GC5K6CM. I'm not here for all the geocaches in New Zealand, I'm here for some of the coolest and best earthcaches and virtuals because of where they take me and what I see. Thanks so much for bringing me here. Thanks for placing and maintaining these caches.

It's been a beautiful visit with only one inhospitable rainy day, which we really needed anyway after the drive down from Kerikeri which turned into an all day event. The missus and granddaughter are braver souls than I. They got in the thermal pools where it was still warm before flowing into the Waikato. The water here is amazingly clear and beautiful. I watched some waterfowl (no clue what they're called) diving, and could see them swimming underwater from 50 meters away. A photo of the convergence of the stream and the river is attached. Thanks for placing and maintaining these caches.

Attached is a photo of my GPS laying on the map near GZ. After this one, the missus and I walked over to Subway for a sandwich after a rather long day with some unanticipated events added in. Fortuitous timing matters because as we got within sight of our car, our 16 yr old granddaughter was done shopping and was done with her shopping and we met up with her about 50m from the car. Guess I better get used to trusting her to walk around and finding her way back by herself. Thanks for placing and maintaining these caches.

The missus (from Oz) agreed, and this time, we stopped over for 10 days on the North Island along with our granddaughter in tow for some site seeing and exploring.Started our last day of touring the beautiful North Island by coming here to have brekkie, and obviously, to get a cache. Took a minute to spot the cache, but spot it I did, and did the deed. Of particular interest, I have been to another very cool McDonalds in Barstow, CA that is made entirely of train cars. Not only was Barstow on the infamous Route 66, but it was also a central hub for all southern California rail companies for freight and passengers headed east in the US. The McDonalds' store there is constructed completey of dining cars parked on adjacent tracks and joined together, and the kitchen was in another car refit for the kitchen. At least it was in 1994 when I spent 4 months out there. No clue what it is now, though, but at one time, it was the busiest McDonalds' on the planet because it was the half-way point between Las Vegas, NV and Los Angeles, CA. Interstate 40 ends (or begin, depending on which end you're on) at Interstate 15 in Barstow (near the intersection of which the McDonalds' is located) and the other end is 2580 miles away in Charlotte, North Carolina, at Interstate 95, where there is another McDonalds very conveniently located at a very busy interstate intersection. Ray Kroc was pretty good at picking locations for his stores.Just a bit of trivia to add to a bit of trivia. Thanks for placing and maintaining these caches.

The missus (from Oz) agreed, and this time, we stopped over for 10 days on the North Island along with our granddaughter in tow for some site seeing and exploring.Thought it might have been on the yella fella with the log towing gear. Searching with an aged 60CSX, so only get a little bit of info with it. Whipped out the IPhone and pulled up the cache page and realized I was looking in completely the wrong place (not to mention my 60CSX was telling me I was being an idiot). Super good coordinates on this one, even for a Yank GPS operatingi in the Southern Hemisphere. On our way back to Taupo from the Hobbiton Movie Set. Well worth the price if you're an LOTR fan, especially now that two of the hobbit holes are open and decorated. Had a half-pint of the stout in the Green Dragon in (because I wasn't diriving). Quite tasty that, despite being just a bit weak for a stout. So I won't say "Easy quick find". Ooops, I just did. Thanks for the hide. TNLN.Thanks for placing and maintaining these caches.

The missus (from Oz) agreed, and this time, we stopped over for 10 days on the North Island along with our granddaughter in tow for some site seeing and exploring.Notes and photo (same one) sent to CO. Gonna go ahead and log a find. This is one of the spots I picked out sitting in my office chair in Helena, Alabama for our upcoming (now happening) trip to New Zealand. The falls are VERY similar to Nocalula Falls in Alabama, the primary difference being those are formed in limestone/gypsum deposits. They're very close to the same height, though, and a similar flow over them in normal times. It can range from an all out flood in winter/spring to a trickle in our driest summers, though.Though strikingly beautiful, it appears not everyone enjoyes a sight like this as much as I do and there is a lot of litter in the area, perhaps the most I've seen since we came to New Zealand. I was quite disappointed about it, but not with the caretakers nor the locals. It's more about careless visitors throwing their trash down right beside a rubbish bin. I do hope a CITO is organized to help clean up the area as it is one of the more magnificent sites I've been to.Thanks for bringing me to a truly beautiful place. (except for the trash)Thanks for placing and maintaining these caches.

The missus (from Oz) agreed, and this time, we stopped over for 10 days on the North Island along with our granddaughter in tow for some site seeing and exploring.Saw this one as soon as I stepped outta the car. Didn't even need the GPS. Could use a new log (getting full), but I don't have my normal caching bag with me so I couldn't do it. Too many trinkets in that would certainly get me cavity searched in the many airports we've gone through to get here. As I was approaching, I found a spider web that SHOULD have been covered with the mist and easy to see, but NOOOOOOO, it had to wrap itself around my bearded face, and passersby probably saw me doing ninjy kicks and judy chops behind the car wondering what I was doing. (If you don't get the reference, just google Diamond Dave, Redneck Ninja). Ennyhoo, thanks for the hide in a good place to stop and stretch the legs. My granddaughter got a close up look at a (very dead) possum of the Southern Hemisphere, and took lots of pictures of the valley that was covered in fog/mist. If you approach from southbound, it is indeed accessible, but a lot harder to get out than to get in. Beware the blind hill of the southbound lane when you're ready to leave again. Thanks for the hide. TNLN.Thanks for placing and maintaining these caches.
2 of 2 Finds, 1 DNF's on this run2600 Total FindsTraveling the North Island for a holiday with the missus and our granddaughter. Thoroughly enjoying our visit.I accepted long ago that I can't find 'em all, but thanks for an additional reason to come to the beautiful falls. I'll settle for the nearby earthcache. I won't say it isn't there, I'll just say I didn't find it.Well, that, and that I was nearly dog bitten by another visitor's pit bull. She got a bit close to me when she was going up to the bridge, and he snapped as he went by. She had a second younger pup too, which had come up to me for a pat, and the older one was just plain grumpy. Fortunately for him, he missed. I don't take kindly to being bitten, and usually, the dog will get the worst end of that ordeal. I don't go to public places to get bitten, nor should cranky dogs be there if they're not appropriately restrained or muzzled. Put a bit of a damper on an otherwise beautiful experience in a beautiful place.

We drove down from Kerikeri for the day, and spent the morning in Kawakawa riding the train and strolling around a nice little town. The librarian turned out to be quite helpful, mostly because the reference section is no longer to the left as you enter the door. She told us the library had been remodeled and the reference section moved. I walked over and had a quick look at some obvious places, then just caught the host out of the corner of my eye. Well done hide, and this is one of the reasons I geocache. Thoroughly enjoying our visit.Attempted this one, but we arrived at the parking area a bit too late. The tide was already rising by the time we started this. When I finished Stage 3, and realized how far it was to Stage 4, I talked myself out of going to the final stage because it appeared the waves were already starting to reach the boulders as best I could tell from about 200m after walking just over half the distance from Stage 3 to Stage 4. So, I chickened out and headed back to the car with the missus and granddaughter lest we get caught on the wrong side of the tide. I won't log a find because I didn't get all the way. A bit disappointed that I didin't get the earthcache. I target virtuals and earth caches because of what they show me. Thanks just the same for bringing me to a very interesting series of boulders. This was the first cache I have attempted in New Zealand. Unfortunately, I was ill prepared and on the east side of the island at Kerikeri when I started my day. Not likely to be this way again, but thanks anyway for bringing me to a special place.

The missus (from Oz) agreed, and this time, we stopped over for 10 days on the North Island along with our granddaughter in tow for some site seeing and exploring.Took a little while to clean off our shoes because we'd gone out on the beach at Koutu boulders (GC21VP5) and managed to get quite muddy feet. We finally got them clean enough and headed down the boardwalk, and were practically under the tree before I looked to the left and realized that tree is more like a cliff. That thing is ENORMOUS! Few plants impress me, but that one did. I've seen some large gum trees in Australia, and some really tall trees in the US, but the trunk on that monster was impressive. It does look like it is in trouble already, though. Sad to see such a noble old tree meet it's end, but the parasitic grasses growing on it and knuckleheads that can't seem to read and follow the rules on the signs are taking their toll on this old giant. Perhaps the cyclones we've seen in the news haven't helped it much either. Still a worthy trip, and certainly one of best virtual caches I've ever been to. I was not disappointed in this gift. It was interesting working two earthcaches and two virtuals at the same time, but fortunately, some of the same photos worked for all of them. Thoroughly enjoying our visit.I don't normally have much trouble finding containers of the size described, but this one eluded me despite having a very clear GZ to search. My GPSr repeatedly brought me to the two wooden placards, and when I checked with my phone, same place. Saw no obvious geotrails and I certainly don't wander off into protected areas in DOC lands, so after about 20 minutes of searching (with another pair of eyes working with me), I threw up the DNF flag. I wasn't caching for a find count, just picked this one as a target of opportunity after doing the nearby Virtual and Earthcache. Thanks just the same for bringing me to a beautiful view.

Me missus lived in Port Pirie from 1999 until 2006. She came to the US to be my wife, and I'm pretty sure I got the better end of that deal. She's certainly the better half.
We decided to make another loop through Laura, Wirrabara, Murraytown, and Melrose today that wasn't quite as rushed as our trip a few days ago, and maybe pick up a few more caches after a good hike on Mount Remarkable.
We came here by climbing up the ridge from GC52DGV. That is NOT the recommended route, but it was certainly the shortest. We actually made it up the end of the ridge with only two stops for hydration and to keep my heart from jumping out of my chest. It's been a while since I've had such a cardio work-out. But without much drama, I inked the log in this one pretty quickly and moved on to it's older neighbor GC1D2RA.

Dunno if anyone has the same troubles with a 60CSx that I do, but every time I use it caching from a car it is REALLY annoying to wait for it to decide I'm no longer going 80 KPH and that it should start averaging my position at a much lower speed. This time it took me across the
new(er) road before it decided to start updating again. But, settle down, it did, with it's usual flawless accuracy and took me straight to the target. Well, maybe not straight, but to the target.
Thanks for the cache and road-side diversion.

After seeing the note about finding a damaged container, I'm not surprised I couldn't find this one. I gave it a pretty good try as we were headed out of MRP. Found a very clear geotrail to a spot up on the side of the cliff, then worked my way back down to the camp site to investigate some good hiding places there, just in case the coordinates were a little soft. Looked in the place pictured by the previous finder, and found nothing except a few crow feathers where something apparently dragged one in there to feed on it, and some Coke cans. CO may want to check this one. I don't NM one that I DNF, but will suggest that it be checked on. This is an older cache, and the kind I like finding most of all. Had the area to myself, with plenty of time to find it, but simply couldn't make the grab. TFTC, anyway. Got to see some really crazy geology features.

Had the area to myself, with plenty of time to find it, but simply couldn't make the grab. TFTC, anyway. Got to see some really crazy geology features.

Now this was a cool place. Figuratively and literally. Was nice to get in the shade for a few with a small mountain of rock between me and the sun. The Missus took a bunch of photos of the area, both the scenery below, as well as the little mini-cave. Thanks for bringing me here. This is one of the reasons I geocache.

I've seen a lot of things around cache sites. Bizarre things. Beautiful things. Ugly things, You name it. But I think this is the first time I have ever seen something that was quite as strange as a black dress, with black stockings, what looked like a two piece black belt, and a pair of black high-heel shoes that looked like maybe a witch flew through the fence and didn't fare too well. Judging from the size of the shoes, it was either a VERY large woman, or one that was turning into a mermaid. Them shoes fit some big feets, bigger than MY feet. The missus took photos, just in case this was some kind of strange crime scene, and we left the 'evidence' undisturbed. We were a lot more disturbed than the evidence, I assure you. I have no idea how long that clothing has been there, but me mate Hurdle may want to go out and have a look-see. I see no mention in any logs by previous finders, so this is damned spooky. There may be a rather large ghost lady running around in her undies out there. I already had the cache in hand and was back at the car when the missus came walking back after taking photos of the old homestead. She spied the clothing in the bush along the fence nearest the house, and called me over to look. Downright creepy that was.

And I thought the post office in the little town in Alabama where I grew up was small. I think this is probably the smallest PO I've ever seen. Didn't have to stretch, but did have to use a little feel-a-vision to make the find. But, find it I did. TFTC.

I'm not sure I approached this one in the prescribed manner that the description suggests. We actually walked in from the Memorial, and I was a little puzzled by the fence between me and this cache. I later discovered as I thought, that the fence wssn't really an issue because I crossed back over it thorugh a proper crossing on the trail on the way back to the car park. we came in on the blue trail until it split near a rather large burnt gum stump, and proceded toward the cache via a smaller trail to the right that was actually shown on the map I had, but not marked as part of the MRP trails. Got back to the fence again, and could see the culvert described in the description, and having been to several BMX tracks in the states, I could see this was some sort of competition track as well. Went back up to the corner of the fence (so I wouldn't have to cross two fences) and hopped over easy enough, but had to go back and help the missus who is a little more vertically challenged than I am, and couldn't quite step over the barbed wire. Finally got to GZ after all the confusion about why we were crossing fences and the trail had apparently disappeared, but set sights on the next closest on. The missus asked "Where to now". My reply was "Up there". The next one was quite a climb.

This one turned out to be exactly where I thought it was as I approached GZ. We were leaving MRP and Melrose headed back to Port Pirie, and had to grab just one more in Melrose. Thanks to all the firey's that put their lives on the line. Thanks also for the cache.
Did't see any travellers in this one. Hope someone moved them on.

I've been to the visitor center many times in my travels to Port Pirie over the past 20 years. Was pleased to see a placement nearby, but just simply couldn't put my hands on this one. No love here today, but thanks for the hide, just the same. My GPS kept putting me right beside the building, and I figured if we hung out there too much longer, SAPD was gonna get called. Don't mind urban hides, but right up against buildings and in flower beds are not my favorites. Thanks just the same.
No joy on this one today.

Havin' a bit of a prowl with the missus about town today after some business for the family. Was a bit muggly as we got there right at quitting time. I searched the obvious place that my GPS kept bringing me back to, but no joy. Looked at another target, but too many muggles about to check that one without being extremely obvious. Even went back to the first target and did a finger sweep after removing the cap, but no joy, still. Thanks for the hide, but a bit too muggly to find this one while we were there.
