Logs for btrodrigues

11-Sep-11
Day one in Mexico and nothing like having a pretty busy schedule waiting for us. Between getting a taxi, getting some local money and figuring out how the whole "public" transportation works, all of this under the heat, the visit to Tolum was one of the highlights. Impressive ruins, kept in really good shape and with a gorgeous view over the sea. These guys really knew how to live. And bathing in those amazing waters really helped getting the experience a few notches up. Loved it.

Thanks for the cache. Greetings from Portugal.

This is way more than a history lesson. I really enjoyed "exploring" the area using the community driven content available on Google Earth.

Thanks for the virtual cache. Greetings from Portugal.

Just when we were beginning to get disappointed for failing to find the Colosseum cache, we figured we still had time for some more before we had to get back to the hotel and guide a bunch of friends which were arriving to Rome.We had already scouted the circus area from far when we did the panoramic bus tour around the city, but it was definitely cooler to grab the sneakers and experience the circus maximus experience. When the distance got dangerously low, we spotted it without much effort. Perhaps a little over-exposed.There are multiple logfile sheets and the previous day logs where scattered among all of them. Confusing. We did no trade, but we left an IKEA pencil, since there was no writing material on the cache, and tried to hide it a little better. Hope if suffices. Thanks for the cache!Bruno & Sara (@ Portogallo)Auguri Wink

Day three of our Rome periple - no caches on day two because Sara had her luggage lost at the airport and she had no proper walking shoes, so we had to take it easy and trade feet massages once in a while.Found the place easily after a walk in the area, but we seem to be out of luck in what remarks to the cache itself. The hole matches the description and the spoilers, but we searched every square inch and it was just not there. (we also got there on the 31st and on the 1st and still no luck - I was hoping the cache to be safe and being logged on some geocacher hands while waiting for a muggle-free relocation strategy)We're very sad to travel so long to fail to find a trully remarkable cache, regarding the number of founds (other things wouldn't be expected, since there are zillions of tourists in Rome and in the area every single day). Congratulations for keeping it up, don't ever quit. We've thrown a bunch of quarters into Fontana de Trevi and we hope to be back one of these days.Bruno & Sara @ PortogalloAuguri Wink

This Lavoir is called "Rio da Fonte" and lies in a little town called Cabeço de Montachique, Portugal (25 Km away from Lisbon).

I was born and raised here and I've always heard the stories about my grand-grand-parents generation. Most of those who didn't work in agriculture sustained themselves and their families by picking up, washing and delivering the wealthier classes' clothes in Lisbon. It had been like that for ages, since the beginning of the 20th century.

There are still a couple more places like this one. Some had to be moved away because of buildings and highways and lost all their beauty. Some are in pretty bad shape, vandalized and abandoned after so many years. The "Rio da Fonte" surrounding area has been restored a couple years ago, as you can see by the pictures. They kept the original stuff: stones, tanks and the water taps and added a new roof. The new school is being built very near and this wash-house will long over the years and keep telling these stories...

Thank you for sharing with us your radio show (and for creating a cache our of it). I had to use the text transcript because Real Player is such a pain in the ass to deal with. Top notch, nevertheless!

Greetings from Portugal!

"or be like one"

I guess the owner just decided it was too hard to stop these guys from being funny and posting genuine (or so they say) bridges outside europe. But then again, these romans are crazy!

I didn't have to go far to find this one, as I was preparing to log it for a while. The street I live in is now officially named "Avenida Vasco da Gama". I've been "migrating" to my new address most of my snail mail, as you can see by the pictures. But today, I had a surprise: there were these guys planting the street signs with the new names. Voilá!

Here's Google's view over Avenida Vasco da Gama in Santo António dos Cavaleiros, Portugal: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=38.817291,-9.159454&spn=0.003518,0.007074&t=k&hl=en

121. Finally

4th and last cache of the day. We made the calculations and figured out this would be our 121st cache, so it was a palindrome (we wanted to log a palindrome coordinate on a palindrome cache order).

We could have found it earlier and log it when necessary, but we figured it would ruin the original spirit of our hunt, so here it is.

A long time ago, I hacked some perl scripts to generate WPT files of palindromes. I got surprised as I found one of there really close to our brand new apartment. The pattern formed by this waypoints is also cool. Guess we were lucky to have one of these on our backyard.
