Logs for cacheFinder_General

Oh man, that's annoying... I'm carrying my Tux-Keychain TravelBug all the way down there from Germany, looking for a nice cache to place it in... And it gets lost/stolen/whatever before even making a single step. What a waste!

Took me about four attempts to finally find it since the GPS always pointed me more towards the water before I finally realised where exactly to look for it. In the end, it was kind of a last minute cache and we had to hurry to catch the ferry which brought us back to our hotel from where we instantly left towards the airport. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

At my last morning in Sydney I decided that I still needed to find the closest cache to our hotel. Since the coordinates were quite a bit off and there were so many spots to investigate it took quite some time but in the end I managed to spot the box and logged the cache. Nice littel park. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

cFg

This cache was to be my final one in Austalia (okay it wasn't, since I was doing another last minute cache on the way to the airport) and my 200th in general. What a nicely regenerated site with great view towards harbour bridge. Thanks for showing me around and greetings from Germany,

Starting at the Three Sisters we took the path towards Scenic World and then walked down near Katoomba Falls to reach the mine. Originally we planned to take the incline railway to get back up but it was way more expensive than we would have thought. So we decided to walk back towards the sisters below the cliff and make our way up "The Giant Stairway". Altogether, it was a nice hike in the Blue Mountains area. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

We drove to the first stage after finishing our Three Sisters to Torbanite and back again hiking tour. Well, had we known that the cache location was right along our previous track we would surely have done it the other way round. Anyways, we walked towards Torbanite again to record the find. Ground Zero is great, it's pretty close to the walkway but it's just out of sight for muggles so you can have a look around without worrying. Had a bit of trouble first but finally spotted the pretty obvious location.

Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

On our last full day in Australia, we decided to go on a hiking tour in the blue mountains, starting at the three sisters, then walking to Torbanite along the edge of the cliff, made our way back through the valley and climbed up "The Giant Stairway" to the sisters again. What a beautiful area and what a nice cache. Although it was windy like hell, freezing cold and we even had some snow from time to time we had a great time in the mountains.

Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

Will log a find for this one later on when I'm done logging all other caches I found in Australia. This is just a note to log a Travel Bug into the cache. You can now log it as "retrieved", despite the note I put on its chain.

Staying in Sydney we decided to do a one-day trip to the blue mountains to do some hiking there. Found this cache early in the morning on a freezing cold day. Since it was fairly warm in Sydney, we hadn't expected such temperatures and even snow! I picked this one as a target for my TravelBug before, since it looked reasonable safe and has been found several times, recently. Good luck on your journey little penguin.

Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

This was the fifth and last cache we attempted and found (woohoo, completion percentage of 100 for the day) during our Blue Mountain hiking tour. We had quite some trouble finding this one as the coordinates were about 10m off. I was looking in the brakes and the bushes but could not find anything. Only when we were about to go I realised sort of a suspicious formation and voila... there was the box. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

cFg

PS: There was a German-Flag TravelBug in the cache that had coordinates as close as 150km to my home written on it. Of course I took it.

I actually wasn't too keen on doing nanos with bad GPS reception. attempted this one anyway since it was almost on my way back to the ferries. Found it quite easily. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

I really enjoyed that one. It's so close to the city but such a quite place where muggles are not a big issue. Found it quickly. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

First day in Sydney after working at the ANSTO for a couple of days. It was a quick find after returning our rental car at a nearby Novotel hotel. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

Passed by here to collect the answers and the picture needed for this Eartcache while I was visiting the Royal Botanic Garden during a three-day stay in Sydney . Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

On my first day in Sydney after working at the ANSTO for a couple of days, I visited the most important sights of the city, of course including the famous harbour bridge (and taking the necessary EarthCache photos). Unfortunatelly, I had to answer all the questions in the aftermath since I did not have access to the internet (and thus the questions) while I was in Sydney. Hope it's okay the way I did it.

My hotel was located north of the bridge and I walked over it about three or four times during my three-day stay to go to the CBD and/or back as I didn't want to pay for the ferry each time. Was quite a walk...

Did this virtual on my first day in Sydney while waiting for the ferry which took me to the hotel. I just took the nearest plaque that didn't have too many people around. It turned out to be Peter Corris, a novelist who is famous for his Cliff Hardy thriller series. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

Quick find with kdliss, his son and a co-worker after going after the nearby letterbox. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

Was there with kdliss. Since everyone says it's so easy and we didn't find anything for about half an hour we are pretty sure it's gone. We found a "tool" that might be related to the cache, read the encrypted hint and looked for it all over the place. No sign of a cache there.

Late at night, I was kindly led to the cache site by kdliss after dinner. The terrain is quite tricky in the dark. It's definitely better to do in daylight, the view to the sea is probably really cool then as well. Thanks for the cache,

cFg

Unfortunetelly, the easy way to the cache site was not on my Open Street Map and as we had parked near the "Dog's Beads" cache we (kdliss, his son, a co-worker of mine and me) started to fight our way about 250m through the brushwood. Not the best idea of the day but finally we got to the cache.

Only little searching was required as the coordinates were pretty close and there were only a few fairly obvious places to look at. I really wanted to find this cache because I absolutely love letterboxing and there are only a few around, so I use to take on any chance to get on. I although like the idea with the postcards. Took one and will send it back as soon as I returned home.

We took the easy way back then (very easy, indeed) and I'm probably going to add it to OSM once I'm back home. Again, another great pleace we would not have stumbled upon without this cache being there.

Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

Working at the ANSTO for about two weeks, this cache -- as it is the closest to the place we were staying at -- had to be done. On my last holiday in France, despite several attempts, we were unable to find the cache which was very close to our hotel which was pretty annoying.

A co-worker and I went for a walk through the bushes on a nice sunday afternoon. Had a bit of trouble finding the correct track leading to the cache as none of them are included in Google maps or Open Street Maps (probably going to add the track to OSM when I'm back home) but after taking the wrong direction first we managed to get to the cache site. The GPS fooled us a little bit there pointing in random directions around the actual location. Finally, we found it after some extensive searching. There are just so many potential hiding spots.

While working at the ANSTO in Lucas Heights for about two weeks to conduct an experiment there we visited some friends of our professor. The conversation during dinner turned out they were (occasional) geocachers, too. They went with us to show us this nice spot but of course they left the searching to us since they had already found it a while ago. It was already quite late and dark outside... but well, that didn't matter of course.

I absolutly love these lost place caches! This is a really cool spot to hide a cache in. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

We wanted to finish a nice hike through the national park with this cache. Checked the cache description after looking for the cache for a while. Only then I realized that the final location is a couple of meters off in the given direction. Technically, this makes the cache a 'multi' (albeit a very short one) or maybe 'other'. A cache should only be 'traditional' if the given coordinates point directly to the cache location. I often do traditionals without having the description with me (because it's usually unnecessary) and this would have been difficult in this case.

Anyway, in the end it was an easy find and a nice ending to our hike. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany. Took a Travel Bug and left another one.

I'm pretty sure it's gone, too. After looking for a while, reading old logs I found what I supposed to be the cache mount at the pretty exact location given by the coordinates. But no clue of a cache anywhere. Maybe it dropped down on the rails.

How difficult can it be to find a difficulty 1.5, regular sized cachebox in the woods? I was searching the whole cache site (about 20m radius around the given coordinates) for way more than half an hour while taking a hike through the RNP. There were lots of good places in the viscinity to hide a large container but it was nowhere to be found. Can't imagine why it should have gone missing though... maybe just not my day.

Greetings from Germany,

Some co-workers and I were strolling the paths of Royal National Park when the proximity alert kicked in for this one. At first I thougth the map looked like there was a direct path to the cache but it turned out to be just the cirumference line of the proximity alarm circle of another cache I had downloaded for the day.

We decided to give it a go anyways, 250 meters right through the brushwood, up and down the ridge, climbing over large rocks and to the cache site. The view from there was quite impressive and the adventurous journey through the bushes and over the rocks was really nice. We would never have gotten to this nice little hideout without the cache.

The cache was located quickly, retrieving it was -- as stated in the description -- really a bit difficult but I managed to get it after a couple of minutes, while the others were already enjoying their lunchbreak with a view over the park. However, regarding the terrain, a two star rating is most definitely an understatement. I would give it like three or three and a half stars since the walk is really not that easy.

This was my third cache in Australian (the best thus far) and the first in the bushes. I definitely enjoyed it!
Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,

During my stay at ANSTO, this was my second find in Australia. Did go for it during lunchbreak with some of my colleagues. The first part was really simple, for the second part, we did not immediately find a good route to the final location. We finally got to a distance of about 20m when we had to realize there is no real path leading near the cache. At first we were a little bit afraid of going right through the brushwood because of potentially dangerous animals (back home in Germany this would not have been an issue) but in the end curiosity made us go after it. Coordinates were fairly accurate and so it was an easy find.

Working at the ANSTO for a couple of days, this was my first find in Australia! Managed to get it on the second attempt with some colleagues after dinner at a nearby steakhouse. The first time, two days earlier, we were a bit off but after reading the logs and checking the attribute symbols back at the hotel, things became pretty obvious.

Thanks for the cache and greetings from Germany,
