Was meant to be walking the Heaphy track over Easter but it was closed due to storm damage . Instead did a lot of small walks and stumbled over this cache. It will be lost as soon as DOC start clearing the track but as I didn't have a GPS on me I couldn't move it to a safer place. Managed to make it down to the lake by clambering over, under and around the fallen trees. Great lake but amazing damage to the bush here and in the surrounding areas.
The tree the cache is in has been blown over in wild weather before Easter and will be cleared away by DOC at some stage. Cache needs to be moved ASAP.

My GPS struggled to get a signal and when it did it varied widely. Looked in a few places but saw no one thing that fitted the clue. Was hurrying to catch up with other members of my party so didn't spend too much time looking.

Found by my nephew while staying at the Heaphy Hut. We were meant to be doing the whole track but it was closed due to storm damage, so we have just walked in to the hut and back. T4TC.

Found with our scout troop on a weekend of tramping and geocaching. It certainly helps to have a group of scouts looking for you as it was not where I thought it would be. A great spot to enjoy lunch before heading off to explore the gorge. T4TC.
Last find of the weekend with our scout troop tramping and geocaching around Karekare and Piha. Was unsure which rock was used but the general area seemed clear so with the help of many eyes (the scouts) it was soon found. Continued up the gorge for some exploring and swimming to cap off a great weekend. T4TC.
Found this by accident when out with our scout troop. We were tramping and geocaching but I hadn't printed this one .We were waiting at junction when one of the scouts spotted the cache. T4TC.

Did this one with our scout troop. Easy find once we got here. The stream level was low so didn't get our boots wet. Stopped for lunch in this lovely spot and some of the scouts braved the water. T4TC.
Found with our scout troop on a weekend of walking tracks and geocaching around Karekare and Piha. What a wonderful way to finish of Saturday and bring up my 100th cache. We changed our weekends programme around to fit in with the tides after finding out about this cache and the sea caves. It was so worth it! Thanks for showing us a hidden gem.
Easily found the fallen trees with the help of the clue . Cache took a little longer but it helps having a dozen scouts looking for you. T4TC.

Our scout troop found this on the way to Ongaruanuku hut. First cache for some and our first of the weekend. TFTC.
12-May-13
Found this one while on a weekend tramp with our scout group. The scouts easily found the friend of the forest but couldn't see the cheeky mouth. Once it was pointed out to them and with the aid of the clue it was an easy find. They thought the name, clue and hiding place the best of the weekend. TFTC.
Last cache of the weekend for our scout group out on a tramp. We had walked up the Muir and Walker Ridge tracks from Pararaha valley and only seen 2 people all day but no sooner had the scouts jubilantly found the large cache than Phasevisitor arrived. (Sorry we spoiled your find but it was the easiest of the weekend.) Great cache and a great place have our last break on our tramp. TFTC.
Easy find after spending the night camping there with our scout group. TFTC.
Found it on a weekend tramp with our scout group. Tramped right past GZ so we could find a level spot to drop our packs and walked back to find the cache and enjoy the view. It is great that there are so many caches on this track as it gave the scouts something to aim for and me a chance to have a breather. TFTC.
Easy find while on a weekend tramp with our scout group. Drained out the water and put a new logbook in a new plastic bag in, though I think it really needs a new waterproof container. TFTC.
Found it while nearing the end of weekend tramp with our scout group. One of our smaller, slower scouts found it which helps make the tramp more interesting for them. THFC.
11-May-13
Failed to find this one while on a weekend tramp with our scout group. Lunch was beckoning at Whatipu and we were less than halfway through our first days walk so it was only a quick look.
2nd of day for our scout group on a weekend tramp. Great weather after all the rain and great to have so many caches on the track. TFTC.
GZ was obvious but we still looked at every tree twice before we found this one. 3rd of the day on a weekend tramp with our scout group. TFTC.
Our first cache of a weekend tramp with a group of scouts. It's great that there are so many caches in this corner of the Waitaks as it gives the scouts something to aim for, they all want to find it first. TFTC and what a great view.
On a weekend tramp with our scout group. After a short discussion on the names of trees an easy find. TFTC.
21-Sep-12
Having a weekend Scout Group camp at the nearby camp. Walked in on Friday night with the scouts and restocked the barrel with loot so that the Keas and Cubs had plenty to swap with on the Saturday.Loved one of the Keas defination of geocaching - 'freestuff'. Great to see a decent sized cache so easily accesable. TFTC.

Easy find on a windy day.Stayed in the hut overnight and came up this morning. great views when we wer'nt holding on for our lives. TFTC

Been looking out over GZ for the last few weeks while working in the area and thinking what a great place for a cache. Looked it up and sure enough there was one there. TFTC.
