Logs for Ernie B

Took a while to locate it, but got there in the end - on my last full day in New Zealand. We had a great holiday, shame I didn't have a bit more time to find more of the 16,000 Kiwi caches.
Thanks to all NZ cachers, thanks for some great caches!

A straight forward find on a sunny morning.

Found ok after a bit of a search around. A nearby oak tree was busy throwing acorns at me while I searched!

Found ok during a drive around Napier. The cache could still do with a lid especially if we ever get any rain!

After a stumble downhill (and before a matching crawl uphill), found the cache after a short search around. Nicely made cache and an excellent idea using the fishing line. I was short of time today so just this one find before our evening feeding time.

I flew over here just a month ago, no chance of looking for the cache from 38,000 feet in a A380 but I'll be flying back in two weeks time.

Two million congrats! from a UK reviewer on vacation in NZ.

Based at Havelock North for our NZ visit, this cache wasn't too far away. Found this one just before having a spot of lunch nearby.

Found ok, but I did cheat by driving up to the cache instead of cycling but I was impressed by the network of tracks for two wheelists.

Parked across the road.... it was more difficult to cross the road than find the cache!

Before we came to NZ I decided this is a "must do" cache (since our friends live nearby in the village). No problem to find the cache, coords were spot on, the contents were a little damp so I left them in the sun for a few minutes to dry out.

Found this location as a bit of a wonderful surprise. We actually stopped for lunch but discovered a local vintage car rally had desended on Norswood, so we spent a good hour looking at the hundred year old Cadillac's Ford's Pontyac's etc. It was very interesting chatting to the owners. Eventually we settled for lunch & cache since we wern't in a position to make a sensible bid for a perfect 'Ponty'.

Found ok, but the coords need to be updated. GZ is between two hook-up points next to the stream. On a busy day this would be between two campers.

The weka came to say hello as we parked up (I rather think he was looking for something to eat). Found the cache ok, nicely camoflaged.

Stopped on route to Wanaka from Te Anau and just in time to take a few pictures before the 11am flyer flew. Another nice and easy cache during a comfort stop.

How to log a DNF on an Earthcache.....
(1) Download caches into Garmin Oregon.
(2) Drive 2 hours to GZ.
(3) On arrival look at GPS and notice the important 'instructions to log a find' didn't show on my display!
(4) Enjoy Milford Sound.

Ah well, maybe next time I pop over from the UK I'll have my head screwed on propperly.

Stopped on our way to Te Anau, but unfortunately the info panel was gone - someone seems to have taken it as a souvineer.... shame. However, I'll upload the 'proof' photo of an erratic UK reviewer.......

Stopped here on our way to Te Anau, and like many stops we've had, there just happens to be a cache nearby.

Well, what a day!
Started by watching the seals sunbathing on the rocks of the North beach, a good number of albatrosses, and got some great photo's of Tiaki, one of the resident sperm whales, dolphins leaping..... but the highlight? finding the cache of course!!!

Stopped by to look at the architecture, decided against a game of bowls but headded for GZ.

A sneaky hide but found fairly quickly when muggle eyes were diverted.

Day two of our NZ tour from the UK and of course, finding some caches on the way. Took a little while to grab the cache without attracting attention, but managed eventually.

Stopped nearby for a spot of lunch in a great location.

This was cerainly a memorable cache. My first in New Zealand and on a wonderful sunny morning, it was just a short stroll from our overnight stop. I wasn't quite up to getting the surf board out but it was great to see others enjoying the beach.

Arrived at GZ and a quick look around, I would have found it quicker if I'd trusted the accuracy of the coords. The owner came out to say hello - he saw me with GPS in hand from his office window. Great to meet Bill (Willbuild) - my first meeting of a Kiwi cacher. Soon had the cache in hand and signed. It's one of those caches hidden in full sight!

Find number two on our first full day in NZ. After finding number one (just down the road), the owner WillBuild looked on as I searched the likely spots for the cache. It's nice to find caches in the places where they belong.

Lovely views over the bay on a beautiful sunny morning. Signed the log and dropped of my Cache Traveler TB (on a mission to find it's way back to the cache nearest to my home in the UK GC3A8NY ). Back to the unit for breakfast now!

My third NZ cache on our leasurley trip south towards Hawke Bay. Stopped off to look at the view and, or course, had to turn the GPS on just to check for nearby caches.

A lovely location and soon had the cache in hand - we seemed to have timed it just right as a few muggles were just leaving.
