Logs for George Montague

28-Nov-24
Happened to drive along Arccona and definitely saw the police box! The things you find when driving along a road you have never driven before. Sadly didn't have a chance to walk the track here but maybe another time. Quite a search before this one was found but George is used to this type of hide. It's GOT to be here - somewhere. Added "G.M." to the log today. TFTC, and the visit, Janetwil.

Lots of loose rocks here making it very difficult to maintain straight and level flight. Got to "1m" by the Garmin, but no obvious cache, so decided not to spend more time. A different cache guardian nearby, but fortunately it was asleep. TFTC anyway, The olly's if you still get notifications.

07-Nov-24
A nice short amble along the path from the graffiti wall - thankfully given the rather warm temps today. An easy find. Stopped when I smelled the chips! Added "George M." to the micro log. TFTC, RoddyC.

04-Nov-24
An easy find but we have another case of added log sheet - this time some cardboard making extraction difficult. Added "G.M." to the log. Tftc, Aussie Liahona.

29-Oct-24
Unlike my previous visit this one was a very quick and easy find today. Added "George M" to the log and replaced. TFTC Aussie Liahona.

10-Oct-24
As mentioned by DavidWazza, a wet morning certainly discourages muggles and this morning was no exception. Alone in the area I soon made a quick find and took the log sheet under cover to add "G.M." to the log. Replaced as found and retreated to the car, almost dry. TFTC, anastasia-ingram.

03-Oct-24
I can't remember solving this but the little blue jigsaw piece says I did, and I certainly found it at the coordinates given. Don't know that I liked all the "rude" hand signals? TFTC, RoddyC.

A 96 container power trail, RoddyC. What a nightmare this could be for maintenance. I don't know, but I reckon you certainly have more hidden caches than most of the folk here in SE Qld. A quick find at the Garmin's idea of GZ, and managed to add "George M." to the log. TFTC, RoddyC.

The hardest part of finding this cache was negotiating the maze of unfamiliar roads down here in the southern hemisphere. Thank heavens for UBD. (Doesn't that really show my age!) anyway, like the bearded FTF warrior, I too reckoned waist high for this one but the hide was fairly obvious when approaching. Added my name to the log and replaced. TFTC, RoddyC.

02-Oct-24
Missed it first look then came back and found it. Had difficulty opening the container but the pair of multigrips and the oxy torch helped. TFTC, RoddyC.

Not difficult to find as it was out in the open on its tether. Added 'George M' to the log and retreated. TFTC. RoddyC.

25-Sep-24
It was cavOK at porter field today, but no scheduled departures by the look of it. The cache was easily located and the log suitably annotated. TFTC, RoddyC and associates.

Well no wonder I didn't find it last week. I didn't expect it to be on the motorway side of the fence. This seems a bit naughty to me, as I'm sure the authorities intend the fence to keep miscreants away from the dangers of the motor cars and trucks. Anyway, found, logged and replaced. There always seems to be budding graffiti artists occupying the area, and apparently some of them are not too particular where they clear the nozzles of their spray cans. How long is the 'art' permitted to stay before it can be covered over and become a fresh canvas for the next rembrant? TFTC, RoddyC and gang.

22-Sep-24
Mine was the second entry in the log sheet today. An easy, quick find. TFTC, RoddyC.

Had a good look all along the obvious feature and couldn't see it, even though the Garmin had me within 1 metre. Will have to try again. TFTC anyway, RoddyC, Hatzoff & Imbunda.

20-Sep-24
Checked again and it was not missing but the log sheet was a bit damp, so replaced with a new log sheet. All good to be found again. Surely a lot more cachers would appreciate a beverage?

12-Sep-24
Checked today and this one appears to be missing. Will replace if necessary in a few days.

Cache has been replaced and ready to go.

10-Sep-24
Checked this one and it is missing. I shall prepare a replacement in the next couple of days.

09-Sep-24
This cache was reported as probably missing, so is now replaced with another bison tube. Good to stay!

03-Sep-24
Eventually found the convoluted access route to the park here. Sadly the option to drive to the top of the hill is no longer available, but I have two good legs (sort of) so made a nice circuit walk. Found and signed the log after an enjoyable amble through mostly untouched bushland. I wonder how many folk carry their picnic gear up to the top. Returned via the concrete walking track. The fence along the play area at 'ground' level seems to be missing it's aluminium fence panels. I suppose some local needing a fence found this place had fencing panels a lot cheaper than Bunnings? Certainly suburbia is spreading around here, no doubt displacing even more native wildlife, but we don't want more folk camping in our parks do we? TFTC, Cassow11ry.

I was passing by the area so decided to have another look for the black stump. Found OK, but it certainly wasn't here on my last visit. TFTC, Lisylou.

Log is damp and very fragile, so I didn't try to write on it. Wrote on a miniscule slip of paper left by yesterday's finders. A new log sheet would be useful here thanks.

29-Aug-24
Kusafiri apparently translates into "to Journey" so I journeyed by river boat to this one and soon located the cache. Luckily I didn't come last Sunday as it seems almost a busload of folk all came and found it on the one day. I wonder if they were from the local guide group? Cat_zilla, please publish Pax real soon if you are planning to publish one, as the Moggill ferry folk are starting to greet me by name and the fares are costing me a fortune. An easy find, so added "G.M." to the log. TFTC, Cat_zilla.

27-Aug-24
As mentioned the log sheet is very damp and fragile. Could be replaced when convenient.

26-Aug-24
Struggled through the required sums but the checker was far from satisfied. Then a chance comment in an earlier log had me attacking it from a different perspective, and found a happy checker. With GZ rather devoid of any hiding places except on a maize stalk, I applied the said offsets and found it. TFTC, BroCol. The log sheet is getting full.

As noted on our December 1923 visit, considerable fence damage here due to flooding. Dunmovin has recently noted the cache was moved about 13 metres and partly missing. If it is moved this should in my opinion be noted on the cache page, or shifted back to the posted coordinates. We searched about 10 metres either direction along the missing fence to no avail today. TFTC anyway, BroCol.

I knew about the proverbial sample black hole located in Calcutta of yesteryear. But solving this was a cut above most puzzle caches I fear. Not too difficult and found by Mrs George while I was looking at the next fence post along. TFTC, BroCol.

I don't believe space invaders alphabet is a very good choice for coding as there would seem to be a number of different versions of the alphabet, and the pixels are very small on the screen. However after some perseverance I managed to squeeze out some coordinates which led to an easy find after a rather rigorous ascent using ice axe and crampons. TFTC, BroCol. The small log sheet was rather full so I added an extra sheet here.

I must apologize, Brother Colin, for departing from the apparently normal procedure with puzzle caches of bringing a busload of cachers to all sign the log. Saves solving the puzzle apparently. Must also apologize for not providing copy/paste logs, which seems to be another popular custom. For some reason I must have forgotten to load this one into the Garmin so Had to jetski once on site. Fortunately the find did not take very long. TFTC.

The puzzle was a bit of a puzzle but the location was an easy find under a tree. All well with the log. TFTC, BroCol.

Having found SSE2, SSE5, and SSE6 previously, we knew what to look for here. Mrs George found it first. Added "G.M." to the log as we will do for most of the other micro logs today. TFTC, BroCol.

Much easier than nearby #14. Didn't need any assistance from equipment carried by my sherpas here. This one was VFR (visible from road) and signed 'G.M.' TFTC Brocol.

Not too exciting here, another bison in a hole in the fence. Fortunately the grass was not too long today. TFTC, BroCol.

Discovered a lot about the space shuttle program while solving this puzzle. Found the micro OK and added 'G.M' to the minute log. The "MR" post would seem to be a bench mark or survey marker established by Main Roads some time in the past (probably when the main road from Alice Springs to Darwin passed through here?). TFTC, BroCol. (I haven't got the 'Brother Colin' rubber stamp made yet!)

After my DNF back in May, I note there has been a recent "Throwdown" here, which I found OK. In the guidelines for hiding a cache, and maintaining same, HQ says "Throwdowns are strongly discouraged without permission of the cache owner" and "However the geocacher who placed the throwdown does not have a strong case to log the cache as found." The old claim "I couldn't find it, Must be missing. I put a new container so I could log it." is in my view downright rude. TFTC, BroCol from a grumpy old cacher.

Expecting this one to be glued to a fence, had no success here. Then Mrs George called "There it is" attached to a tree. And I would call it small rather than micro, but I signed the log anyway. TFTC, BroCol. Spent quite a time getting the right info to solve this. Not being a scifi fan made life a bit harder,

I managed to decode believable coordinates for longitude, but one digit in the latitude was dodgy. But assuming the cache was along this road, I went walking on both sides from fence to fence and in between but to no avail. Oh well, it's only a hobby! TFTC anyway, BroCol.

Apparently found a correct web page for this, and managed to sort out the geographic embarrassment caused by the printed map not showing the area we were driving. Luckily this one followed the theme of most others and was found in the fence. TFTC, BroCol.

After partaking of a bit if moonshine - has been full moon not long ago, this was solved and put in the 'find it' pile. Yet another hole in a fence. TFTC, BroCol.

I learned something I never knew here, but haven't been in the area for over 20 years. A bit of searching provided the answer to this puzzle, so I shall have to visit some time. Another hole in a fence here with no long grass. What are the army doing these days for jungle training? Yes, in a hole in a fence. TFTC, BroCol.

Mrs George was getting pretty good by now stopping the car at a spot where I wouldn't have far to walk. Had to send the sherpas back to the car to fetch the crampons, ice axe, and extension ladder to reach this one. Managed to sign GM and reach the car safely. TFTC, BroCol.

Spent a lot of time researching this one, and came close I believe to the solution but failed on the last hurdle. When our boys were young they were given a small clockwork animated toy showing the subject of this puzzle doing acrobatic swings around a horizontal bar. "That's xxxxxx" they said, obviously having watched the series on TV. TFTC anyway, BroCol. I believe my calculated coordinates were close, but my longitude put me around 50 metres 'over there' in the paddock

Another quite damp and very fragile log. Could do with replacing when convenient. We didn't have facilities or time to try and dry the thing out.

Not too difficult to solve the coordinates, or to find the cache. Signed G.M as usual. TFTC, BroCol.

I must have led a deprived childhood as we grew up without a TV set until after I left school. So I missed all these fun shows. Had to make do with Dick Tracy and his wrist watch radio in the comics. But not a difficult puzzle thanks, and an easy find as usual. But the log was very damp and extremely fragile though managed to make my mark without further damage. TFTC, BroCol.

Have not viewed any of these movies, but fortunately Mr G has and was able to provide the answers. Surprisingly, the cache was found attached to a fence, and the log duly signed and replaced. TFTC, BroCol.

I spent ages doing research for this puzzle, finally coming up with an answer which fitted the clues. Sadly, the checker would not agree with my answer until after contact with the CO, I spelled the answer differently and got a green tick. Another location that slipped past me but I'm not into astronomy much except observing some stars and constellations by eye when the sky conditions are favourable in the photon polluted sky around Brisbane. Found in the fence with a shady tree to rest under while adding 'G.M.' to the log. TFTC, BroCol.

My favourite quote was "we know exactly where we are ......... we are lost" which describes our trip to SSE51, SSE50 earlier today. Took me a while to tease some coords for this one, but persistence wins in the end. TFTC, BroCol.

Had to go and set up a cyrillic keyboard for this one. One wondered at the time of most of these feats how many failures the western world (and the Russian people for that matter), were not told about. But they did achieve these documented successes. Found the relevant numbers and coaxed some coords from them TFTC, BroCol
