Logs for Ripplenook

12-Jan-17
Camped at Everetts with family (wife and 3 boys) to do some kayaking and walking. Took a slasher and cleared the track a bit from gorse and blackberry but we all still got a lot of scratches. But that's tramping... Found the cache and the boys went swimming as it was such a hot day.
After getting back to Everetts I took the 2 older boys (12 and 14) kayaking down to Te Hoe confluence which is a grade 3 section so not just float or for the inexperienced. Stopped at the mine again for a photo.
Been in the area many times over the years but never knew of the mine. Thanks for the cache. Another interesting place in NZ that you would never know was there.

04-Sep-16
A nice walk with the kids to find this one. They were more interested in seeing how far they could throw stone into the water.

Out for a ride with the family. A cache and an ice cream on a beautiful day.

Dropped of TB. TFTC

10-Jun-15
Was up here for work yesterday and today. Found the other 3 yesterday but this one was a bit illusive. GPS was pointing to a likely spot and the clues all added up but nothing found.
Tried again today and this time GPS pointed down the hill. Took a step back, looked around and decided on another spot and there it was. Easy if the GPS points in the right place, not quite so easy when you are 10m away. Must have been the weather. Great series. Thanks

Nice little hide.TFTC

The guardian is in place. TFTC

08-Jun-15
One of the most obvious geo-tracks I have seen. But then again only if you know what we are up to. Nice hide.

Check both ways, no one coming... for now... grabbed it and back on my bike.

If the lawn mower got any closer it would be Scrambled Eggs for this cache not Fruit and Yoghurt. Still in tact though.

Found on the way home from work. Had to make it look like I was fixing my bike.

Good clear views both ways... just in time before kids coming over the tracks.

16-May-15
7 kids, 5 adults and 12 bikes heading toward Whakamaru on the cycle track. A good way to start it with a cache.

Cycling the track with friends from Iceland. Told them what to look for and the youngest bet the rest of us to it. TFTC

Me: OK boys, the cache is next to the MatterYogi.
Son: Whats the MatterYogi
Me: Nothing Boo Boo my little buddy....

Ok its old but had to be said.

TFTC

Why did we climb the steps with the bikes... so we could get the cache and ride down the other side. TFTC

19-Apr-15
Lovely spot for a walk and great history lesson. TFTC

A quick walk by after a morning stroll.

Found heading back to Rotorua. The boys wanted to start it up. TFTC

09-Apr-15
Awesome bridge.

A quick snack stop and a cache to keeps the boys going.

Just on dusk, one last stop for the young one before the end.

They don't make them like this anymore. Fantastic.

07-Apr-15
Kids are getting quick on these now. TFTC

Wow so much has changed since doing my Avionics training here back in 87. Had to show my kids around since we were passing. TFTC

You don't see many like this. Fantastic. TFTC

No problems for the kids. I might be done out of a hobby soon or I'll have to run faster.

Kids found it and we had a chat with the owner. Alway nice meeting cachers along the way.

Let the kids loose on this one. Great way to decorate an otherwise mundane item.

Stopped for lunch and a cache on a beautiful day.

A quick stop on the way south

Now that is some tree. TFTC

04-Apr-15
The kids went for a swim after doing this one.. Note to self, it is cold. TFTC

Some nice blackberries on the way to a beautiful view.

03-Apr-15
Back in the early 90's, that's the 1990's a friend and I kayaked the Clarence from Hamner to this spot. It was meant to be a 5 day trip but due to flooding turned out to be 3. At the time the old building was still here so we stayed the night in it. nice to know the history now. After finding the cache we also found a pear tree so sent the boys up it to collect a few. These are the nicest pears I have tasted in many years and the tree was probably planted sometime around the time of the buildings. We'll worth the stop. TFTC

02-Apr-15
A little detour to Woodbourne to see the base after many years before heading further south. TFTC

After grabbing the cache a train came along so we dropped down the bank and stood under it as it went by. Great for the boys to see it in action.

Stopped for lunch and to show my boys where I did my training. TFTC

01-Apr-15
Found all the clues needed and it took me right to the spot it should be. Clearly a metal exercise sign but nothing on it.

A few aircraft overhead and a quick find.

Time for the kids to stretch their legs and find a cache.

Lunch and a cache on the way south. TFTC

10-Mar-15
Awesome, in a 100 years people will wonder what it was used for. TFTC

23-Jan-15
Jerry's hole.... Brilliant. My youngest got the clue before the rest of us. TFTC

Spent the day on the slide with the kids. Bodyboards, tyre tubes and I even went down in my whitewater kayak. What a blast. We will be back to do it again even if it is a long haul from Rotorua. Will camp somewhere next time.
GPS lead me to the obvious point but no stone and no cache. A large branch has been cut off what was the obvious choice but I may be wrong. Will try again next time.
Awesome day.
