Logs for menstrieben

21-Mar-22
Third and final on a night navigation excercise. Found and replaced in a nice dry location

This geocacher reported that there is a problem with this cache.

Tftc. First in quite a while for me, very wet but based locally so will try and drop by soon with stuff to fix it up

Number 2 for tonight, thanks

12-Sep-20
In the area having a rare 2020 day out and about exploring. Thought it was a location crying out for a cache somewhere and there was Smile

Quick find and in great condition

09-Nov-19
Had a good feeling about where this would be from a way off so it made the hot slog up the hill a bit easier. Worth the stop by on the way to another nearby cache that was nice and cool Smile

I've been waiting to visit this cache for years and after a inactive period seemed like a great location to drop off the trackables that have sat with me for way too long.

Recent dry weather meant it was damp rather than wet underfoot but a kamikaze dragon on the way along to the cache gave me a fright that took years off me!

Container is getting a little seized up but was still nice and dry inside.

Another fun hike with menstrietash, zee and a muggle friend who now sees the fun to be had exploring for caches

This geocacher reported that there is a problem with this cache.

Counting as a find with an old logbook page and the sunnies from a previous log located at gz. No sign of a container anywhere though so maybe in need of a new one.

Stopped off here for a bonus extra cache on the way home. Was looking a bit high to start but any excuse to climb a tree Smile

Great hide when we found the right place though!

02-Nov-19
After a morning walk and a very nice coffee over the road a muggle friend asked about geocaching. Had a quick look following a too long break from caching and found there was one across the road so it would have been rude not to.

could be a great location for cache guardians but thankfully didn't encounter any today Wink

27-May-18
Wasn't looking today but then noticed this from the path so it would have been rude not to

11-Jan-17
I should have got round to visiting this one earlier, works here will be going on for a long time and possibly best to remove the cache and find a new home for it once the university is in place

08-Sep-16
Passing here today and thought we'd visit the cache to add miles to our trackables. No sign of the cache at the location I found it earlier in the year or other similar places so given the other logs I think a visit from the co is needed Sad

06-Sep-16
I'm often surprised how rarely visited some of these caches are and that it's so long since this one was last found. Nice easy questions along a short walk in a great place, what's not to love! I'll have to come back when it's warmer for a swim at the pools. Tftc

Back climbing bald rock again while on a longer stay in tenterfield this time, an early start on a Tuesday meant we had the whole place to ourselves. Really surprised that only one other find had been logged since were here in March as I'd expect it to be busier! Tftc

Despite driving this way several times somehow I've not noticed this feature, after stopping today the cache was a quick find and in good order, tftc

Always driven this today northbound and never noticed the art before, on seeing it while driving south today we stopped for a pic and thought there must be a cache and there was Smile tftc

05-Sep-16
By the time I'd walked back to the car to put a pen in my pocket menstrietash had already found the cache but was waiting for my spider proof hands to retrieve it! After visiting tenterfield a few times before this is the the first time we've come up here and it's a great view, tftc

A reasonably quick find as I sat down where my phone suggested and it was soon in hand despite dismissing it the first time I looked right at it, clever camo for the location. Tftc

04-Sep-16
We passed on this one yesterday as it was super busy with muggles but today Menstrietash was not sleeping well so we ended up driving here to see the sunrise which was spectacular, as was the poor quality of some of the parking from those unwilling to walk a little further! Tftc

Stopped for a short break while driving between Byron and tenterfield. A nice spot with great views. Couldn't take the direct route to go due to the overgrowth but found a way though inside while treading lightly! Cache was not the first container we found but got there eventually. Let some paper as a new log after seeing the last few logs. Tftc

Spider webs, bugs and muggles combined with a jumpy phone GPS lead to a dnf for Menstrietash and myself today. Worth the short walk from the cache on the other side and I love that geocaching brings me to places I'd never otherwise see Smile

A nice quiet spot on a Sunday afternoon aside from the rabble from the nearby flying fox colony. Thankfully I've found one like this before so it was a quick find unlike the last one which took multiple visits over several weeks Smile nice camo here. Tftc

03-Sep-16
Would have been rude not to visit the most Easterly cache on the mainland while we were here, a great day with dolphins playing close to shore and whales in the distance, tftc

02-Sep-16
Watched whales from the viewpoint before looking for the cache on the way down, quickly found by menstrietash while I was looking on the other side, tftc

06-Aug-16
While we had no success today I'm always happy to have an excuse to climb a tree, couldn't see anything from the ground or at higher vantage points but did find a cache sized hole high up facing the parking bays which was empty Sad will keep an eye on this one and come back another day

15-Jul-16
No luck for me either today, should have looked at the recent logs before picking a location for a quick couple of caches on the way home tonight. A nice park to explore though. Spent quite a while under and around the bridge so heading off for another one while I have time and daylight Smile

Yaaay, success here after failing at the first one. I made it harder than it needed to be after getting distracted by the obvious feature before re reading the description and actually following my GPS to a quick find right where it said to look, doh! Tftc

13-Jul-16
No wasps on the blue pipe today but no luck finding the cache either, phone GPS was a bit all over the place and I wasn't dressed for extensive searching in the dense vegetation. Hunted round the obvious features with no success and only found geckos, did feel like a place with potential for snakes though. As others have said a hint to concentrate the search area would be nice Smile

Had a bit of spare time today as my nearby friend want home to grab a coffee and chat so I thought I'd visit some caches instead. Didn't see a soul once on the path and for once my phone took me pretty much to the cache container Smile bit of a geotrail forming so I made the effort of going back to the path on a different line further along. Tftc

09-Jul-16
I've been meaning to pass by this one for ages but tend to be on the lower river path. Glad I decided to come today in daylight rather than looking in the dark as I don't think we'd have found it otherwise. Happily the was a gap in the parked cars and the flow of people so we could grab the cache and sign the log. Definitely not the container I thought it was going to be given the nearby structure. Nice to find something a bit different so gets a favourite from us. Tftc

07-Jul-16
A clever little hide, always nice to find something a bit different and good to see it survived the flooding given the evidence of how high the water got. Took a short walk to gz while out on a lunchtime shopping trip and was thinking what a nice peaceful park it was then right on cue a freight train rumbled past! The bike park on the other side of the bridge looks like fun.

30-Jun-16
More time available today and less traffic than last time I searched here as well, seems I'm on a roll today as this time the phone quickly settled on a location and not long after I noticed something not quite right with what was in front of me. Fairly certain I may have looked right at this last time I was here and dismissed it as I expected a different container. Log was signed and a favourite point for a cunning hide. Tftc

After my almost but not quite earlier I the week I was back today with better clothes and shoes, turns out I was very close last time and had been going high enough, just not in quite the right place! Must have had a better signal today as it was found quickly after a couple of ups and an across. Nice to have a reason to play like that for a while. Dropped off a TB I picked up in Canada and took the one I found in the cache to move on. TFTC

Seemed like a nice spot for a short walk and a bonus extra cache on my way home today, success on both parts Wink I spent a while looking on and around 3 trees a bit further down the hill as my phone gps had me some way off the actual GZ. looking around and using some rare (for me) common sense took me to another location about 10m away and a quick find once there. a sunny enough day not to need a torch and to be fairly confident I could retrieve the container without encountering too many creatures! Took a quick look while passing by at lunchtime today - should have know with the attributes that it wasn't going to be a smiley today with office clothes and shoes but it didn't stop me trying Wink

Got what seemed a sensible set of co-ords for GZ and a few trips up and down in the area didn't get what I was after so i'll be back with better shoes and more time to look again!

Happy to report that it is in place and higher than the water got with the recent rain as I was able to see the container but i'll have to come back with different shoes before I commit to retrieving the log!

14-Jun-16
I've looked for this one on more than one occasion with no success and thought it was going the same way again today as my search time and daylight were running out. Suddenly something I'd looked at several times today and previously didn't look quite right. A quick investigation and I had the log Smile gets a favourite from me for a clever hide and for adding another thing to look for elsewhere!

11-Jun-16
First found this with Kidnap early last year when we were at the start of our geocaching journey and though I'd log it once I got a premium membership so finally today I got round to visiting again.

Gets a favourite for creativity and being the first cache I saw that was something a bit different.

The new padlock opens a bit more easily than I remember from last time and the contents still impress. Australian bushland feels a long way from misty Glencoe in Scotland where King Arthur and his Knights used one against the deadly rabbit!

Surprised to see its been over 6 months since the last log and a pity its a bit unloved, we left a trackable that i'll collect next time I'm passing if its not moved on.

Well even though it's close to the road this one deserved it's terrain rating, despite taking a route up to the side of the cache and a high traverse to GZ there was a fair bit of going over and under trees and my shins have a few reminders of the adventure Smile menstrietash however remained intact. Interesting to see "the great south east" and channel 7 as the first name in the log book and good that the cache remained intact after the council works. Tftc

05-Jun-16
After failing to find this ones sister cache today we decided to walk on a bit further to here to dip in the trackables we picked up in Canada a couple of days ago and get a new smiley

After 2 weeks worrying about encountering grizzly or black bears hiking in the woods it was a relief to be back with more familiar wildlife to deal with but none was to be seen on a cool windy afternoon Smile

Tftc

I planned to drop by this cache again to dip the trackables we picked up in Canada to start their Australian journeys. Unfortunately it wasn't to be seen where I found it earlier in the year and a lot of the stones and vegetation in the gz area are gone.

This may be a result of the heavy rain over the weekend but it might be worth a check by the co. Ta

Cache was out in the open, have moved it to match the hint

Cheating a bit with copy paste logs as I realise I haven logged this big day out with Menstrietash and Zee+glee and I'm now on holiday so will come back to finish the logs later but this will keep things in order to log the holiday finds!

lost count already!
