Description
We sometimes come across the most beautiful stained glass windows in churches and other buildings. This cache is to make a record of where those windows are so we can visit. We love the colours of the glass and the workmanship that has gone into them.
These windows must be accessible to the public.
This window is at a small church on the highway between Blenheim and Christchurch in New Zealand-St Oswalds. Well worth the stop especially as there is a ga cache in the grounds. The history of the church is very interesting and it seems the church is always open.
A cacher can only log 2 caches but the same buildings may be logged more than once.
A photo is required-not necessarily with your GPS as this may spoil the photo. Please make sure to include coordinates in your log and if possible some information about the window or the building.Photos can predate this being published. It just shows you admire the work as much as we do.
Happy caching.

These stained glass windows were situated in what was once a private residence. It is now the rooms where two orthopedic surgeons and an ear nose and throat specialist are based.
This is St mary's church Busselton, the beautiful windows at night time.

Sainte-Chapelle Ile de la Cite. Paris France
The Sainte-Chapelle was built in 1242 under the orders of King Louis IX of France. It was completed fairly quickly, and was in use by 1248. The structure isn’t a cathedral, and it’s not even really considered to be a church, it’s a chapel!
In fact, Sainte-Chapelle translated to English means Holy Chapel. King Louis IX wanted to have a special royal chapel for himself and the rest of the nobility to worship in.
We visited there in 2016 just after the restoration of the magnificent stained glass windows. We were also lucky enough to attend a chamber music concert there as well.
Thanks to Corunnaroad for this chance to share this location.
Thanks for the Locationless Corunnaroad, I’m surprised it was last logged in 2017.
Thanks for the locationless.
Between mid 1942 and early 1944 the area surrounding Rockhampton sustained thousands of US soldiers who were fighting in the Pacific and this non-denominational chapel was constructed to service the religious needs of those troops. Erected within Area 'A' of Camp Nerimbera (a convalescent camp for US personnel) in 1943, by the US 542nd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment, St Christopher's Chapel is located west of St Christopher's Chapel Road, to the southeast of Rockhampton.
The single storeyed chapel is open at the front (east) and to both sides, with a low stone wall around the perimeter. The chapel has a wide centre aisle with timber pews to either side and a random rubble stone wall at the west end of the chapel creates a recessed central altar with a door to either side accessing rear side rooms, which are enclosed with fibrous cement sheeting. A free-standing stone pulpit is located at the southern side of the altar. A later octagonal band rotunda is located on the northern side of the chapel. This structure has a concrete and stone base, and is constructed of timber. TFTL Corunnaroad
It was then transferred and installed as part of the display in the Aviation Heritage Museum in Bull Creek.
A shame that we do not see more of these.
Out and about for the Summer Scavenger Series 2016 and snapped this one.

Wilberforce Anglican Church is a welcoming church of Christian families in the Hawkesbury with something for all.
St Cuthbert's was well established in Tweed Heads in the early part of the 20th Century. Following the end of the Great War, an appeal was launched to fundraise for stained glass windows to be used as a memorial for those who lost their lives in that conflict. Created for the original St Cuthbert's in Enid St (the church moved in the 1970s, there was originally one large arched window with two smaller arched windows on either side. With the new church in Florence St, all three windows were merged to create one large window over the entrance of the new church.
The centre contains the image of St George, he is holding an Australian flag and in inscribed with the name of C R Morley who died in Palestine, a lieutenant in the 5th Lighthorse, and was erected by his parents and brothers and sisters. The Morley's were successful business people in town, they could afford what was then the larger window. The two side windows contain the 12 names of those who were associated with the church, it contains the images of a cross, sword, laurel wreath, and grapes. All symbolic images.
The windows were originally designed and manufactured by Mr Wm Moroney of Brisbane and was dedicated by The Ven Archdeacon Tress of the Grafton Diocese on 8 May 1921.

A few of the fabulous stained glass windows in St Patrick's Cathedral, New York City. TFTC corunnaroad
This is the Uniting Church of St Stephen. These stain glass windows have been screwed into existing windows of this church. AS the plaque in front of the church suggests, this church is quite old so it possible that the stain glass windows came from the original building and when that burnt down/disappeared the windows were placed in here.
I was driving home from work tonight and noticed this stained glass window (illuminated) at the front of this church.
The image is of St John the Evangelist. The church was built in 1861.

Thanks corunnaroad.
Just one of the stained glass windows that face Barry Street in South Yarra. For the last 12 months I have walked past this church every week day while on assignment at Jam Factory. Alas my assignment ends to day so this was a great time to find this building for this cache.
Thanks for this cache which I am using for the Summer Scavenger Series.

This church has several stained glass windows, but it was difficult to get a good photo of them.
Here's a view from Megalong Street.
This beautiful stained glass in Hannas Shopping Arcade depicts Armidale. It is stunning of an afternoon when the sun gets behind it.

Katoomba,
This new coffee shop and cafe is situated in an old church, probably a Church of England . . . Am sorry that I don't know the original name but will do some research and write another note later.
Am also disappointed with my photos, which really don't do justice to the windows. Will probably go back for coffee in the near future and will try again.
Thanks.

Not a church, but an art gallery with a 'stained glass window' type of frontage.
Photo shows me standing in front.

I attended a function at this church and noticed the stained glass windows, protected by perspex panels. I couldn't get a good photo with the light streaming in.

We bought a welded iron fish here, he would count for the Virtual "Metal Sculpture" GA2683, but I've already claimed it.
So, this is number 300 GCA cache for me.
A beautiful church in the centre of Hobart and some equally stunning stained glass windows adorn it.
Thanks for the cache corunnaroad
Thanks again for this cache
The stai glass windows depicted in this log are those of a small church in Buckland, Tasmania.
Like most, the locals claim them as the best in Australia.
Cheers and thanks;
OldSaint.
This Stained Glass Window remembers the Royal Australian Navy Cruiser HMAS PERTH I which was sunk by the Japanese in 1942. My Grandfather was on board - survived the sinking - captured - sent to work on the Burma-Thai Death Railway (he was 42 years old !!) and died in Burma after a year working there. I have visited his grave - taking my Mum with me - in 1999.
TFTC - there are many beautiful windows all around thisa country !
Thanks Acko
Saint Peter's has six stained glass windows, but the Peace Window is especially significant to the veteran community.
The Peace Window is dedicated to all Military personnel and Civilians who served in the Vietnam Conflict from 1962.
A dove carrying a sprig of flowering eucaluptus is a symbol of an offering of peace from God. (My Peace I give to you. I give you so as the world gives, do I give, but my Peace. So let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid....John 14:27).
A sunrise represents the Military Forces.
The white cross is the design of the Long Tan Memorial Cross.
The blue sky represents Australia and the green hills her rich and diverse cultures. The shadow represents the lasting memories this military campaign has on the stages of Australian History.
The colours used are the colours of the campaign ribbons.
The Peace Window was commissioned by the Bruce Rock and Wheat Belt Vietnam Veterans, designed by Mrs. Sue Muntz, made by Mr. Murray Arnold, and housed at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Bruce Rock Western Australia. The window was consecrated in November 1971, with the local Vietnam Veterans inviting all veterans of all conflicts to mark the occasion. That was the first "Back To The Bush Veterans Reunion", and the event has continued to grow each year, very well supported by the Shire of Bruce Rock and all veteran organizations. Each year sees additional memorials dedicated to different groups or conflicts.
The 10th Reunion saw over 1,000 assorted vehicles camped on the oval, and was marked by a concert featuring Vietnam Veteran and entertainer Normie Rowe, followed on the Sunday morning by the dedication of a Memorial to the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels at Bruce Rock. An honoured guest at the dedication was Mr Faole Bokoi, one of the few surviving Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels.
Three memorials were dedicated on Friday 4 November 2011 - a Memorial to the men and women who served during the Korean War, Malayan Emergency and Indonesian Confrontation, a Memorial to all serving Defence and all Peacekeeping men and women past, present and in the future, and a Memorial to all Womens Services.
As far as was known at the time of dedication The Peace Window at Bruce Rock was the first "Stained Glass Window" dedicated in appreciation of the service of the Vietnam Veterans of Australia. The Peace Window is the first in this set of six photos.
I've never been privileged to squeeze into the tiny church for the service, but I was able to pay homage in the morning before returning to the camping area to get ready for the march.
