Logs for 2Seagull

The cache was actually visible from the track, if you knew to look for it. Only now on reading the clue, I think we shouldn't have put it back exactly where we found it, but instead somewhere a little less visible from a distance. Perhaps the next finder could do that, after reading the description in the clue?
Anyway, we took this walk just after a terrible fog broke to reveal beautiful views. The place is wonderful, and the new buildings at the base of the track are quite an impressive gateway. Well worth the visit, although the cache itself needs a bit of a scramble to reach. Probably wouldn't want to go for the cache after or during rain!

[Found it after a while, after looking for a tree with a different number of trunks to where it was eventually found. I wonder if someone is playing tricks?
]A log entry below posted a picture of a tree we recognised (with very many trunks) but which is different from the one where we found it (which has four trunks). [
So I wonder if the cache has been on the move a few times? Hard to know, as our GPS lost tracking in the near vicinity so can't confirm how accurate its current position is compared to the stated location.

A muggle was parked within a few metres of the cache so had to be careful. Eeventually gave up waiting and took up creeping. Nice spot on the route between Hanmer and Kaikoura.

[The hiding place seemed obvious coming up the path but didn't find the cache so had to think again. Eventually used the clue, which seemed to confirm our initial hunch. So I'm wondering if the cache has been muggled.
]
Is the cache in a hole in the exposed large flat surface of the large rock formation, facing north, covered by a stone? If so, the small tunnel under the stone is now empty.

What a lovely little wetland reserve: wouldn't have known it was there if we weren't looking for this cache. Enjoyed watching the small birds darting about in search of the plentiful dragonflies, and then strolling down the wild beach on one of the few summery days in ages.
For a change we didn't cheat and use any clues as our GPS was spookily accurate and took us to within arm's reach of the cache. Great slide tucked away at the end of the playground.
Needed elastic arms for this one as didn't have Seagull minor in tow. Having a geokiddy along is definitely useful for this one. My creaking joints don't have the flexibility they once did! Be sure to check out GC102FQ just around the corner.

Likely areas still fenced off. Not game to break cover by climbing them during the day (and close to the small police station...) Will keep an eye open for when the construction is complete.
Found this after initially expecting it to be in the OTHER abandoned school grounds 200 m away. Had to quickly replace it as another group of geocachers arrived just a few minutes after us and we didn't want them to be searching in vain! Had a quick chat, fortunately no muggles around to notice the sudden congregation in the otherwise empty spot.
What a great cache. Found it just by feel. So many muggles around during the day (many of whom seem like they will be there for a while) that you can't really adopt any approach but a surreptitious one. Very well placed. The GPS may let you down in this area so we relied on the description to know where to search.

Very close to home (1.2. km), so made a nice bike ride in the school holidays. Seagull minor made the find while I was distracted by the Seddon plaque.

#1 of 3 caches on a school holiday outing. Seagull minor was very happy to be the one to find it (her first), although she's helped a lot with the others. We had tried this one back in June, but the rebuilding of the structure in the clue seemed to mean it was misplaced for a day or two. Glad to find it at last. Also good to revisit the park which used to be our "local": we used to spend quite a few times here wandering in the park and playing on the slide and round-about.
But one qurey re the clue: the cache seems to be on the 'A.J.' rather than 'A.R.' corner?

#3 of 3 in a school holiday outing. Look up in a tree a few metres north on the other side of the stream to see a wild swarm of bees, out hunting for nectar and pollen in all the blossoms nearby.
Took a pink "SpaceWorld" pen, left a Bluebird text competition entry card.

1 p.m. #2 of 3 on a school holiday outing. Had a good idea where it would be before arriving and the hunch was correct. Seagull junior had to be surreptitious in removing the cache in such a busy spot (great location). Didn't realise it was such a new cache until we read the log book.

What a great view- went down to the river after finding the cache and enjoyed the perspective up and downstream. The cache was still damp but seems well sealed now.
The apex of our 1/2 day trip, in search of lunch in Darfield and 3 caches. First geocaching trip for the junior member of the family and our first search out of the city. Beautiful sunny and stormy day to be out on the plains. Cheers.

Spectacular alternating sunny and stormy weather for exploring the Canterbury plains. Were about to head across the blackberries but thought there must be an easier way. Circled around and eventually whanau and I found it without problems. Then continued on along the river to find another cache. Cheers.
Nice feature: wouldn't have noticed it speeding past on the road if we weren't looking for the spot with the GPS. But too cunningly hidden for the three of us- decided to give up and head for home after a nice drive on the plains.

Our first cache find, in a very nice hidey hole. A beautiful warm and golden-lit Nor' West Sunday afternoon gave a break from Winter dreariness and took me back to some significant moments spent around this place. Also meant lots of other people were around, so we had to pick our moment carefully.
Plenty of other visitors mean the log book is almost full, with only a couple of more pages left.

Some digging in the area and some fresh paint and new woodwork makes me think the structure referred to in the clue has been replaced very recently, perhaps taking the cache with it?
