Logs for E-T Explorers

Happy New Year!

We didn't have the photo, but used the hint and after some poking around succeeded in finding the target. In fact, this cache is probably nearly impossible without at least the hint, as GPS reception is very unreliable in the area.

The lid of the outer plastic container was cracked and the interior of the cache was somewhat damp. The log was OK, though, as were the contents of the tackle box.

We took one fly and left our last signature cache monster. One of E and T's great grandfathers made a fishing trip to New Zealand in the late 1960's or early '70's and spent some time in this area, probably fishing near this particular bridge. Thanks for a great cache!

An easy but very worthwhile cache; what a great spot. We had a rare clear day and admired the heavy snowpack still on the mountains. This cache had some nice stuff; I remember we took the jump rope and the cariber clock, and left some things we hoped were of equal value (but what exactly, I don't recall).

Happy Boxing Day!

Clever cache and not so easy; probably 1.5 stars difficulty, in our opinion. Thanks!

Happy Boxing Day! What is that about, anyway?

Enjoyed the walk to the beach and the neat waterfall. We found it fairly quickly. The cache was too small for our trade items, so TNLN.

No need to worry about cache concealment today---it took us quite a bit of poking about to find it. Took a dolphin and left a cache monster. Merry Christmas!

Logged with permission. Merry Christmas! Thanks for the great walk and for the great weather (we actually saw the sun!). We had seen this area mentioned in a guidebook and wanted to visit it, but the directions didn't mention anything we could find on our maps. Then we noticed the similarity between this cache description and the guidebook entry and found our way out there without problems. Thanks again!

Found this one quickly. Took a golf ball and something else, left a cache monster and a slinky. Merry Christmas Eve!

Everyone who caches the West Coast of the South Island owes Moneydork a word of thanks---so, thanks for the caches! TNLN

Logged with permission. We enjoyed the trip and the visit to Jacksons Bay---in fact, we could see heavy rain falling everywhere else along the coast while Jacksons Bay was still sunny and relatively warm. Thanks for the cache!

We tried to find this one while staying at the nearby campground. Water levels were very low, so we stayed dry to the cache site, but once there could not locate the cache. The previous entry indicates the cache was left under a log. We examined the only visible logs, but not too carefully as they were covered in mud and debris. In fact, though there wasn't much water when we visited, it was clear that there whole area had flooded recently.

We stopped here to camp for the night after coming over Haast pass---it was indeed a convenient spot. Needed the hint for this one; GPS reception along the trail is not good. We grabbed the Crabs TB and will take it with us back to the US.

This cache was our introduction to NZ caching. Much of the trail to the cache was steep up or down, wet, narrow, and exposed. We to help the kids along a bit, although only Dad managed slipped off the trail (just into a bush, fortunately). Once at the cache site we were limited to one-handed searching due to sand flies; unfortunately, the insect repellent was inside the yet-to-be-found cache! Even with the hint it took as a few minutes to locate it.

So, overall, it was a challenge that we enjoyed, and what a great location for a cache. But don't bring really little kids to visit this one.
