Logs for Sterlk

16-Feb-12
My apologies to anybody who DNF'd over the past however many months.

I had not checked on the cache as I was secure in the knowledge that it would never be muggled because of the location, seemingly the same can not be said of nature.

It would seem that ants have opportunistically made a home from the cavity below the rock where the cache was. The ants loosened the soil, and it would appear that stormwater did the rest.

I can only assume the cache is now a foot below the ground, so I'm taking it offline.

28-Dec-11
Still nobody looking for it?

I'm posting the final coordinates here to effectively turn this into a traditional cache, my suspicion is that its being ignored because its a multi without recent finds.

Feel free to follow the original instructions if you're up for a nice walk.

Found this one about a week ago but forgot to log it here, signed the book though.

Spotted the obvious GZ from a long way out. TFTC.

07-Dec-11
Argh, grass seeds all through my socks.

Nice, easy find after spotting a gap in the barbed wire to get there (the gap is on the little side-road off Branson St).

TFTC

Haven't done a cache since January, wasn't doing anything, so decided to go for a bit of a look.

After driving straight past the obvious parking bay on the main road, I went through the rabbit warren to park, before finding the cache easily. Hid it a bit better than I found it.

13-Jul-11
Due to all the recent "Didn't find it" posts, I'll add a hint. Should make this one a whole lot easier.

10-Jan-11
Grabbed this one a week or so ago, the log should have the exact date (if this is the cache I'm thinking of Red Face).

The 7 year old in our group couldn't resist going straight to it, as he'd found it before, so the finding part was ruined, but otherwise quite enjoyable. TFTC

I checked on a week or so ago, its still there.

Anybody holding off on it because it hasn't been found in a while and might not be there, don't worry, this one is extremely unlikely to ever be 'muggled'.

Found it a few weeks ago, can't remember the exact date.

Couldn't sign the log either, the recent rains drenched it quite thoroughly. Nice walk though, even though it almost killed me getting back to the car. TFTC

03-Jul-10
The approach was wet and marshy, but found the cache without any difficulties. TFTC

3rd DNF for this cache, this time in a group of 3. Twisted

I can't for the life of me figure out where it is, I've been through probably every single rock cavity thrice over. Definitely won't be attempting again without further information.

1st DNF - Cache was offline
2nd DNF - Was too tired to search for long, thanks to an uncooperative dog
3rd DNF - No excuse, should have found it

The last log was a DNF as well, maybe it disappeared again?

Thankfully I've found one of those before, so I knew exactly where it should be. Quick find, TFTC.

Nice, quick one. TFTC.

Went with Hannancey and ended up dumping a heap of things as the contents were quite sparse.

Was visible from GZ, found easily. The re-hide is more camouflaged. TFTC

A micro amongst all that long grass? Bleh. [xx(]

The hint of "epbx" was completely unhelpful because we couldn't find what the hint was mentioning, though given the dampness nobody was too willing to go ferreting through the grass. Did some minor hand-searching and then stomped all the long grass trying to feel for the "epbx"... nothing.

02-Jun-10
A quick drop-by reveals the cache is still there... don't be discouraged by the infrequency of the finds!

One of the most frustrating experiences of my life, but the cache is only partly to blame.

I was walking my dog, and about 200m away from the cache he decides he doesn't want to go any further, so I end up carrying him the rest of the way. He's still a puppy, but he's a puppy that's nearly 20kg, so it was no small feat... especially when he squirms the whole way.

By the time I get to the cache I'm too tired to search for long, so after 10 mins I call it quits and leave for home, except my dog is a dead-weight and doesn't want to move anywhere. Its about 1km home, and I'm too tired to carry him far, so for most of the kilometre he's being lifted by his harness and made to walk on his back legs the whole way home. Ugh! [:(!]

Needless to say, he's not coming caching again any time soon.

Was on the ground when I found it, dropped a small plastic hook in and did a re-hide in the tree.

28-May-10
Remembered this was here while I was running an errand, was in too much of a hurry to wait for the muggles to dissipate and make the grab, so I managed to inconspicuously take a photo of the cache with my mobile... if the owner requires proof, I can email it.

Didn't even need a GPS, TFTC!

02-Apr-10
Quick one, found by somebody else while I was still zeroing my GPS.

27-Feb-10
After trekking back out there this morning to find out whether the FTF was Zsazsa7 or McPhan, I found out they jointly signed the log on one line. So what the hey... FTFs for all!

... and for Sol de Lune, I can confirm that the cache is still there. Smile

Good one, spent a good time debating whether or not to jump the fence. Luckily we found the Horse trail and did it without encroaching on anybody's private lands

TFTC

Hmm, coords are out are they?

Makes sense, we ended up in the middle of the field, and since we were doing a sweep of the area we didn't stay long. Will have to expand the search next time.

Nicely made container, confused us a bit as we were looking for a micro

TFTC

Hmmm, rubbish everywhere. Found it quickly enough though.

TFTC

Huntsman underneath, luckily didn't touch him.

TFTC

Dogs went off as soon as we got the GZ, nice little hide there. Somebody dropped some foreign coins that should be in the cache outside the hidey-hole so the location was betrayed and we found it pretty quickly.

TFTC

GPS was a bit out on this one, so it took us a little while to find it... but got there in the end.

Quick pickup during a Uni break.

Thanks for the cache, the puzzle... and for teaching me what the hell a checksum is. Big Grin

I'm hardly ever out this way, so I thought I'd grab a couple of caches while I have to be here.

Very impressive camo cache BTW!

This was driving me mad, so I emailed Goodbeard for assistance.

Turns out my problem was I didn't know what a checksum was; solved it in less than 5 minutes after I gained that particular bit of knowledge. Now I just have to go get it.

20-Feb-10
^^^

OK, makes sense. I just found it a little bizarre that everybody that's attempted it (even though it's only 2 groups at this point) went wrong in the exact same spot and both ended up somewhere in Flynn.

I thought it was a tad strange that there wasn't an FTF rush.

At least there are actually people looking for it now. Smile

17-Feb-10
Oh Good, it's up.

If the FTF hunt begins shortly, I'll be watching from the shadows.

Happy hunting!

09-Feb-10
Nice one, confused me on how to get at it for a while, but got in quickly enough.

A short walk on one of my Uni breaks, TFTC

08-Feb-10
Might be time for a new log, couldn't find much blank space, ended up signing in a gap in the '09 logs.

06-Feb-10
Found relatively easily, though another in our party couldn't resist re-hiding it 30cm away from where it was found... don't despair though, it's still in the same 'hole' it was found in!

Well... I had some serious issues with that one. After 2 DNFs, the second with a group of 3, I finally gave in and emailed mr_roo for assistance.

After that I found it almost instantly, if you're having trouble finding it with the listed coords, try these:

S 35° 11.894
E 149° 02.043

Well... I had some serious issues with that one. After 2 DNFs, the second with a group of 3, I finally gave in and emailed mr_roo for assistance.

After that I found it reasonably quickly. In the comments I noticed a few people commenting on having to widen their search to find it, so if you're having trouble with the listed coords, try these:

S 35° 12.208
E 149° 02.059

Nicely hidden, though I have to think this one could become exposed if the weather gets exceptionally wild.

Dropped in a shell keychain that I picked up elsewhere, TFTC

Sometimes these can become a little obvious if the cover is too "heavy". While this isn't an exceptionally hard cache by any stretch of the imagination, I decided to re-hide with cover that's a little more "minimalist"... looks more natural now & will be slightly harder to find than before.

31-Jan-10
Finished the dots puzzle a while ago, luckily some basic math saved me from the blue dots.

Found it in the obvious place with Hannancey. TFTC

Did the ultra lazy thing and drove from point to point, beware of redbacks in the final hiding spot!

TFTC

After looking at the terrain view on Google maps I thought the smart thing to do would be to approach it from the William Hovell Drive side, though it turns out there's a barbed wire fence with no gaps/gates to jump over if you do it from there.

When I got to the cache I thought it was a brilliantly smart way of avoiding a massive trek, though on the way back my shoes couldn't grip a 45 degree steel pole I was using for aid to get over the fence... as a result I now have a shredded shirt and a decently gouged arm.

If you're going to be "smart" for this one, you definitely want to make sure you're cabable of jumping barbed wire fences, otherwise take the long exhausting way past the "Canberra Nature Park" cache.

26-Jan-10
Nice container! Ants were all over it and it was slightly uncovered, next cacher will probably have a harder time than we did.

TFTC

Nicely hidden, "small" status a bit deceiving, this one is approaching micro status even though it's correctly categorised by the guidelines.

TFTC!

Interesting object

19-Jan-10
It was a lot closer to us than the map indicated... so rather than take the car, it was time to go walking.

Nice hide, TFTC

18-Jan-10
I pretty much walked from my house to NSW. Big Grin

It was my hope that I'd be able to easily get to this one from "There's a Hole in My Bucket...", but there's a fence line the whole way so I ended up walking back around counter-clockwise until I reached a gate that I thought was the entrance to an equestrian trail on public land... so I jumped it.

I soon discovered a herd of cows, so I'm relatively sure that I trespassed to get there. Red Face

Took a geocaching "X" sticker, left a furry white little ball. TFTC
