Logs for YowieFreak

02-Oct-06
Found without too much difficulty as the container was exposed. Put it back in the (hopefully) correct place.

Found this without too much trouble. (Well, my daughter found it without too much trouble - I probably would have given up and gone home if she hadn't been there.)

06-Aug-05
Been meaning to do this one for ages - finally got around to it because I had to take my daughter horse-riding nearby.

Daughter couldn't resist taking the coins, so we left some Yowie toys in exchange. (Sorry, I didn't have any that seemed "Canadiany", so we just picked some at random.)

13-Feb-05
Have just checked it and the cache is definitely not in its correct location. Sad

Will SMS Bronze.

06-Nov-04
Until we spotted the cache we weren't sure whether we were even anywhere close, because we came across on the Collaroy as the Narrabeen didn't seem to be running today.

Saw plenty of lizards (thought I was in Jurassic Park from the way one ran across the road) but no bandicoots or penguins. Pity.

06-Aug-04
Finally found this one after a bit of climbing and clambering. Still not sure what is "distinctive" about the nearby trees though Big Grin

A pleasant walk, with a nice view at the end of it.

(Unfortunately, I nearly got bitten by a mozzie - he must have migrated here from the Starbug cache)

We actually found this quite a pleasant adventure - although it's not REALLY the sort of place where I usually like to spend my Friday afternoons. My daughter wants to know how anyone can possibly come up with the idea of making people wander around the cemetery trying to find dates of death in order to calculate geocaching waypoints Big Grin

Luckily I managed to find a way underneath the final obstacle toward the south-western corner of it - I didn't like the idea of climbing. (Although my daughter went over the top with no trouble at all.)

05-Aug-04
No mozzies today. (Either that or they didn't like my blood type.)

Should have listened to my daughter when she said "Let's go THIS way Dad!" - would have missed all the brambles that I fought my way through.

Took Tiny Tator TB to leave in a spot where he will have better scenery.

22-Jul-04
Sad Is this an offset event cache? Just looked at the maps and the coordinates, and they don't point to Zimme's.

I just drove down to Zimme's (having first gone to the coordinates posted just in case there were TWO Zimme's in Sylvania) and the coordinates of their carpark are (hopefully) S 34 0.405 E 151 6.692.

Hmmmm - just tried whereis.com.au - any address from 1 Princes Highway Sylvania through to 1235 Princes Highway Sylvania (and I assume any other number) all come up with the same location (which is actually about the location of 355ish Princes Highway Sylvania Heights).

Hopefully I will be able to turn up (and hopefully be able to talk my daughter into coming too).

P.S. I nearly logged this as a "Found it" because I catch the Nightride bus from the busstop outside there several days a week!

09-Jul-04
Took daughter and a friend geocaching on the way home from their Study Camp. This was the first one we found -quickly spotted by my daughter while I was continuing to walk well beyond - but she had the advantage of having the GPSr in her hand!! (Well, that's my excuse anyway.)

A very pleasant little spot Smile

Had a friend of my daughter with me today, and she was really enjoying herself looking through all the hidden treasure in this cache when someone came up and said "Hello". I thought we were soooo busted, but then he introduced himself as a friendly yarn-spinner and I realised we were safe.

Thanks Ropes! Smile

08-Jul-04
All I can say is "Ouch!!"

04-Jun-04
Searched high and low (mainly low) but couldn't find it.

Found the gnome, and was wondering where I should dig. Then I noticed something shiny digging into my knee - that saved me from having to search too far! Smile

Left Ditty, who is the poet amongst the Yowies - seemed appropriate given the poetic cache notes.

Was just about to give up after searching for some time, then realised the cache was within 50cm of where we had put our backpacks down.

My daughter told me that the GPSr was saying it should be right where I was sitting, so I looked around and immediately spotted where it would be. I think we were lucky though - there are a LOT of spots where it COULD have been.

A bit too close to the Galactic Void for my liking, but my daughter found it with little trouble Smile

Took HK$10.00, left Yowie toy (Bennett's Nudibranch)

Tried to find this one, but decided that GZ was too close to the edge for us. We looked in a spot that was VERY close to the edge, but weren't game to look on the other side of the rock.

A nice easy find (right where the coordinates said it would be) but had to be careful not to be spotted by muggles.

27-May-04
Finally found this with the help of my two daughters this evening. Sent them out to do some legwork while I drove my son somewhere - they had the final coordinates entered into the GPS by the time I got back to them Smile and all I had to do was search for the cache at the final location. (At last, a reason for having kids!! Big Grin

22-May-04
Wasn't expecting to do this one today, as we had headed off to do Pole Vaulting instead. After giving up on that, we decided to come past Blue Midget on the way home. Spent about 10 minutes trying to find the cache once we got to GZ. (I hadn't brought the clues with me, otherwise we would have found it MUCH faster Big Grin

21-May-04
Was going to go looking for this tomorrow, but I couldn't wait. Convinced my eldest daughter to go out with me, which was lucky because she was the one who found it. Smile

I think we went the hard way - up the hill and through the bush. (And even through a cave!) Never mind, it was fun anyway.

Thanks Odkids!

Woohoo - The first cache that I have found Smile - Couldn't have done it without the clues though!

Came past yesterday morning but someone was nearby hosing the pavement, so came back again this morning. Same guy was there again, this time cleaning some windows, so I walked past and then doubled back once he had gone inside.
