Thanks Pablo Mac for letting me post my very first event cache, albeit remotely. Enjoyed the interviews from the event on Podcacher.com. It’s the next best thing to being there! Thanks again.

In Memory of Curtis Sause (1913-2001)
Tug Irene donated by his wife, Margie Sause, September 2002

The 27-foot tug named Irene was built in 1938 by a family friend, C.J. Sessions, for Henry Sause, Sr. and Curtis Sause. It was designed along the lines of a Columbia River gillnetter with a four-cylinder, 40 horsepower Durant automobile engine. The boat was used to tow log rafts from the Tillamook River across the bay to Garibaldi, where the logs were assembled into seagoing rafts (known as Davis rafts) and towed to Aberdeen Plywood at Aberdeen, Washington. This undertaking was the forerunner to Sause Bros. Ocean Towing Co., Inc., a company that is prominent in the ocean towing industry 64 years later.

This armillary sundial was commissioned by Professor Emeritus Harry S. Kieval, PhD, Mathematics, and is located on the campus of Humboldt State University, Arcata, California. It was dedicated in October 1983. It features an equation for time correction and contains the twelve signs of the zodiac. It was in place for two years before the maintenance department realized that the sharp, pointed arrow could cause injury and subsequently blunted the arrow’s tip.

I ran into the author of this cache on the campus of HSU as we simultaneously arrived at a cache site. We got to talking and he told me about this cache in Davis. Being an old Aggie, I had to make sure I logged this one. TN, left a USA Geocoin. Thanks for this fun puzzle.
