Logs for roughana

04-Aug-11
We looked for this behind the second lamp post south of the helicopter pad on the Eastern side of the island. We found a rusted piece of metal that was magnetically attached to the back of the lamp post just under a rim. We searched the leaf litter on the ground around the lamp post but did not find anything. I took photos of the remains and of the area if someone wants to verify that we were in the right place, but IMHO it's gone.

27-Apr-09
Thanks for organising an interesting meeting. It was good to get together to discuss devices, methods, and to discover the swag of trackables.

20-Apr-09
Am contemplating coming along with GeoWife and Geo3yo (hopefully will fall asleep in a lap). Is the room where the meeting will be held suitable for children (under supervision)?

Edit: I rang the club and it is. Children must remain under supervision at all times.

I can bring a TB, but for discovering only, not swapping (I have some assistance lined up to acheive its goal).

27-Jan-09
Berry is half way on our path back to Sydney, so we took the opportunity to stretch our legs. Geokid enjoyed the playground area and the bandstand.
iPhone was out by 3m so I had fun searching for black objects in the vicinity before returning and trying the obvious. I discovered that the fence caps come off and have noted that as a potential future hiding place.
There was low muggle activity in the area but thankfully none in direct line of sight to GZ.
There is no pencil in the cache. BYO writing implement.

26-Jan-09
Geowife and I went for leisurely walk after dinner to celebrate our anniversary and decided to have a look at this one on the way. Unfortunately GZ was swamped with Australia Day revellers and despite the tide being somewhat low, we would not have been able to get near it without attracting undue attention in entirely inappropriate attire.
Next time will be better prepared.

[Geowife and I continued our walk from Bay Boardwalk to tackle this one as it was closer than where we had parked the car. I had previously targetted this one as it was not a micro and would therefore have something potentially interesting for Geokid to look at.
I used the satellite map feature of the iPhone to get to GZ and was very impressed with how close this got us. This was the first time I'd used this map style for seeking a cache after reading about it on the forums.
We hit the area at dusk and unfortunately the mozzie population was out in full force looking for our blood! Thankfully we were in long pants and shirts and didn't suffer too many bites. You've been warned!]
We found the comment about it being able to be reached from the grass misleading. Yes it can, but only if you stretch and know where to look.

24-Jan-09
After doing some shopping in town we decided to show Geokid a Pelican and stopped in the SW car park next to the bridge. From there it was a short conversation to tempt the Geowife into giving this one a go. She didnt mind walking across the bridge once.
With GZ on the section that raises, how hard could it be?
Fortunately (or unfortunately as it can't be an excuse) not too much muggle traffic.
The iPhone was left in the pocket for most of the time. I guessed it was near the middle and concentrated my searching on where I thought something could be hidden.
In the end exGeowife and exGeokid had had enough so we left empty handed.
It was only as we left that I checked the hint. That confirmed my guess but probably wouldnt have helped.
We will be back.

11-Jan-09
While visiting some friends who lived nearby, we were discussing our new hobby and decided to see what was in the area. They were eager to get out of the house, so we went for a walk/ride.
Unfortunately GZ is in the bottom of gully with lots of tree cover. iPhone was having trouble getting consistent reading. We werent really sure where to look which became frustrating so we moved on.
A hint would have been welcome.

01-Jan-09
Solved the GZ location after a few attempts. Used the iGCT iPhone application to convert DMS into decimal so that Google maps application could show location. Confirmed we were in the right place with previous log comments. Used Geopher Lite application to navigate at GZ, however iPhone was unable to get accurate fix (possibly due to tree cover). The hint didnt help us.
Consoled ourselves by looking at the view, playing on the structures and having a go on the flying fox in the nearby playground.
We will be back.

Contents are wet and unpleasant. Log is ok in plastic bag with pen.

31-Dec-08
The tree cover didnt help the iPhone get a fix. Took GeoPa out for a short walk to introduce him to geocaching. Thank goodness we did as it was he that spotted the cache (red micro cache container). Cache seems to be very exposed. We left it as we found it, but perhaps owner should check it is positioned correctly.

30-Dec-08
Went to Florey for take away dinner and walked across the oval while we were there. 3yo GeoKid was not very impressed with the wet contents. TNLNSL (there is a pen in the cache)

Took 3yo GeoKid to take advantage of this great concept and introduced the GeoGrandParents to geocaching at the same time.
GeoKid took playdough from the blue container (nb. not a good item as it dries out). TFTC.

Stopped off to give 3yo GeoKid a swim in the pool as a break on the trip between Wagga and Canberra and was pleasantly surprised to find a cache in the same park. TFTC.

23-Nov-08
Geowife and I hit this at lunchtime during a course we were doing in the area. Managed to miss the muggles. This was the quickest find yet. We're getting better at this. We didn't need the clue this time.

09-Nov-08
We had been meaning to get to this since we received notification of its existence, but hadnt quite managed to get up early enough to get there before Geohubbie had to be at work.

Nice walk through the small reserve behind Geokidlet's Humpty Squad tennis courts. Geodoggie also enjoyed chasing the stray tennis balls. Geohubbie's iPhone did it's usual inaccurate reading - 13m + or - 17m!

Geokidlet decided that the yo yo we were leaving was so much more desirable than the jumping bean he had wanted from the cache. He alerted all muggles to our presence with a tremendous bellowing. Actually, this turned out to be a great disguise for my poor attempts at moving quietly through the sticks and leaves.

Geocaching is such a great excuse for a family outing in the sun!

Took Jumping Bean, left yo-yo.
Picked up TB, dropped off Coin.
Signed log.

11-Oct-08
I handed over the iPhone to Geowife for this one while I took Geokid for a walk around the gangways. The iPhone wasn't very accurate at this site even though it was out in the open so we had to resort to using the clue to find it.
Took frog, left Minerva 76 coins that we picked up in Fiji.

Dropped off Dukebug TB
Picked up Geocoin

05-Oct-08
Geohubbies iPhone made this one a little difficult for us as the trees confused it and the closest reading we had was 9m +or- 47m!! Still, it was a lovely day for a stroll with Geokiddie and Geodoggie - both of whom have a wonderful cooperation thing going where they run in opposite directions to each other.

I had never seen an ammunition case before, it was smaller than I have imagined, although I had guessed it would be that lovely shade of khaki green. Amazing the things you learn on a long weekend ...

Geokiddie grabbed Shrek with glee and we left a yo yo. I hope your yo yo fingers are in better shape than ours.

Left Tahlee's travels TB. Bet Tahlee enjoys the dog park as much as our dog does.

TFTC - finding a cache is a great excuse to get out of the house for a family excursion.

Dropping in The Dukebug to log distance from Fiji.

13-Sep-08
Wanted to drop of TB in this location but didnt find it. There were a couple of likely locations but couldnt see anything so didnt want to stick my hand in. Will be back with gloves.

07-Sep-08
Geowife and Geokid (2.5yo) took me out for father's day. This was the first attempt with the iPhone and it was working ok but Geowife jacked up at the bush bashing and we resorted to the clue which led us straight there. Terrain was awkward for our youngester and is not recommended for very young Geokids.
Took TB. LNSL.

30-Aug-08
As part of a family get together for my birthday, we went searching for our first Geocache. The intent was to use the iPhone to do it, but lack of PPP meant that the iPhone was only used for reading the hints - which we needed to actually find it. We're looking forward to our next one.
