Logs for MegaWatty

12-Oct-20
We took the liberty to replace the cache container with an equivalent wrapped in the same material.

Wow!

We have numerous pending logs to write for our recent granite belt finds but I had to take the time to get this one out of my system.

I can only assume that it’s the rarity of this cache being found is the reason for the lack of favourites that it possesses.

We took a drive to Girraween today and walked in via the Granite Arch. In itself, something to behold. It was nothing compared to what we were about to discover. Once reaching the base of The Pyramid, we umm’d and ahhh’d as to whether we would walk up. Both big kids decided they’d have a go so who was I to say no to them? Unfortunately only one made it to the top with the other bailing due to the memory of a bad fall the day before caching around granite boulders.

We made it and what an unbelievable experience. Soon after we descended to where the cache is and within a few minutes had located it. The feeling of what was in front of us was like nothing else that we could describe. Had it have not been for this cache being placed here 16 years ago we wouldn’t have decided to go to the top. For this, we are truly grateful to the cache owner. Thank you!

If you are thinking about, do it. There’s every chance that the fear will kick in but the wall (when dry) is extremely grippy and if you have to scramble on hands and feet then still do it. Plenty of people do it this way. Another tip is go to the top first before descending to the cache. You might be able to get to it from the level just before the top but it didn’t look like it when we headed that way.

Again, to the CO, thank you. You have done something amazing to the two of us that made it to the top but also to the third who is proud to have made it half way up and is looking to return again to conquer it at some stage in the near future.

PS. Have one of my favourites!

D and the big kids walked in with L spotting it straight away. Bit damp inside but log which is almost full was signed and cache replaced.

Visiting the granite belt to spend some money and cache in our country regions. Love how you took us somewhere different for our first cache of the day and holiday.

The big kids ran up for this one and L went straight to it. Signed and we had them back in the car and on the road again.

Great story as well.

We’ve replaced the log in a ziplock bag and grabbed the old wet logs to dry out and hopefully archive. Thanks for the cache, it still has no lid though.

You are no longer unloved! We will update the log at a later time but rest assured the cache is there still.

So here’s the update.

We’re out holidaying in the Granite Belt/Darling Downs and after one DNF for our 250th find we headed out in the hope of not only hitting our 250 but also finding an unloved cache.

We were all but back in the car before we thought we’d try one more thing. Using what we thought may have been the tool, a long way from where it belonged, we went looking again but we didn’t need to. It was already sitting on the ground! Unsure if we’d loosened it before or it was just there.

Log was signed, 250 cache finds were logged and container was replaced where we believe it came from and the ‘tool’ was put nearby.

TFTC and bring us to a historic site that we’d never have thought of without caching.

Beautiful little location that you have brought us to. Thank you for showing us around town and for the cache.

Quick drive by cache but when we pulled up there was another person in the vicinity. There could only be one reason why she’s there. Sure enough she was caching as well.

T jumped out with the big kids and found it. L managed a solid graze falling off the coppers logs and our fellow cacher who had been looking for it several times couldn’t believe that it was found. We would love to catch up with her so if she reads our log we’d love her to contact us through the message centre.

TFTC!

Thank you so much for bringing us to somewhere that we were bound to just drive past and not even know about. A nice easy cache by a little bit of education as well.

What a crazy tricky hide! The COVID log probably gave it away.

The kids went in to this one and had the cache in hand in no time at all.

TFTC

Starting to see the connection here between different names and containers.

TFTC.

The kids went in to get the last one of the day. We’ll be back to get the rest at some time in the near future including hunting down Sheldon.

Thanks for a great day out away from everyday life. We loved being in Trotter for a few hours.

And away we went in the Big Bang series. Thanks for the great series. We had a lot of fun with the kids relaxing everything back to the show.

We will refer back to this for most of out logs so please don’t think we’re being lazy with our logs...we probably are.

I think I’ve got my logs all messed around and the last one is actually for this one. Nonetheless, TFTC!

Brilliant container and play on words.

Here, have a favourite point. We loved it!

The very first of a great day out at JC Trotter park. We’re so glad that you brought us out here because it’s just another great little Brisbane reserve that we’re lucky enough to have discovered because of caching.

A great fun cache that had the kids petrified to even pull it out.

TFTC

T and the kids walked in whilst D and O in the park hung around the local properties.

TFTC

Probably left the track a bit early for this one. T and O hung out in the pram on the trail whilst D and the other kids went in to eventually locate it on the other side of the creek.

Spent way too long trying to find Sheldon. Dad was ‘surprised’ by the local goanna hanging around one of the surrounding trees. Little frightening!

Anyway, I guess we’re coming back for this one.

This was one for Dad. Loving this series by now. Fast and easy finds.

Will update log later.

Did a few today and tried to find this one but unfortunately we didn’t. Found where it might have been but no luck.

Did a few today whilst camping with a family friend and he came.

We let him find this one and we also filmed it. Up we went, he was told the hint and started looking for this thing. He was quick to find it. We let him know what a cache contains and he was loving it.

TFTC!!

This was tough to find!

We searched on both sides of the road and eventually we found it. Great spot for a cache . TFTC

Took a family friend that we go camping with geocaching for the first time. We did a few with him today. This was his second find that he found by himself.

The name of this cache is very clever. TFTC

Did a few caches and tried to find this one. Unfortunately after searching for ages we weren’t able to find it but we did get a laugh out of it.

First one of a fair few for today.

First cache that one of our family friends has ever seen. Really smart container to use. We also saw some frogs in in a spot where we thought the cache was. TFTC

The kids jumped out of the car to find this one after school.

They had read the previous log and one of them knew where it was. Over they went and they had found it.

We live so close and have never released what was down this street. TFTC and taking us to this place that was so close to us that we had never been.

Off for an afternoon

The magnets are worn out and have allowed the cache to drop on to the floor. We found it on the ground. We placed it back where it should be and left something there to support it.

Awesome spot if the magnets worked. TFTC.

Pending restrictions at the time, 5 people.

On our way back from a drive and grabbed this as well as the two trackables left by the last visitors.

The kids went to get this one. They used great teamwork helping each other get up the gravelly hill. They quickly found it and grabbed the trackables. Then it was time to get back down, one jumped off and the other one tried to slowly get down but that didn’t happen, down she fell, dad turned around just in time to see it. A graze or 2 but that’s the fun of caching and definitely worth the trackables.

TFTC!!

The first cache out of 4 today!

We were on our way to do containers for change and thought we would do this on the way. When we arrived we saw another car and thought that there were others trying to find the cache but we were wrong, they wanted to go for a walk. The entrance was very overgrown and we almost had someone fall over when trying to get through. Once we got through there it opened out to a path which was gravel but was now covered in sticks. We walked with the others until we got close to the cache, we told them that we were geocaching and they seemed confused with what we had said but they continued on their walk. We looked around and then looked where we believed it would be but didn’t look properly. We then quickly went back there and found it.

TFTC!!

Was able to find it, but couldn’t extract from the tree, will return soon with tweezers.

Have been getting back into caching at the moment did a heap yesterday and decided to do a few more today including this one.

Unfortunately we were not able to find this one. We looked for a while, looked at the hint and still couldn’t find it. We believe that it might have disappeared when they did controlled burns down there not long ago.

Maybe someone who has found it or the CO could go and see if it still is in its correct place.

Last bike ride cache of the day!

We looked here, there and everywhere. Then once again another pair of eyes was needed. It had been found right where we were resting while we had sent someone to look around.

An amazing place for a cache. It sent us down to a place we had never been despite living in the area.

TFTC and the amazing spot you have showed us.

Cache doesn’t look to be in its original place.

On our way back from finding some caches down at the park.

The youngest was quick to jump out and try and find it. Then not long after the oldest child jumped out and headed straight towards it and in no time at all it had been found.

Great hiding spot in its little pocket!

TFTC

We had finished tangled and then headed down to this cache.

We got our amazing tree climber up to have a look and couldn’t find it. We then sent up the true megawatty to see what he could find. After spending ages up in the tree he had finally found it. While we watched from the ground, we then had to throw the pen up.

A great yet hard place for this cache!

TFTC

Number 4 today.

Looked around, then saw were it might have been, looked there and didn’t see it, all it took was another pair of eyes and we had found it.

TFTC

Family headed out for some caching on bikes in our local area. This was our first find of the morning. Unfortunately we just missed the geocoin by minutes.

TFTC and the exercise up that hill!

Last one for today!

We had try to find this one a few days before and couldn’t, we didn’t have enough time to search high and low for this one or the kids would have been late for school.

Read some old logs and gave it a shot today. Looked were we had guessed it would be. Something looked a little suspicious, we moved that out of the way and it had been found.

TFTC

One of our last for the day!

Were looking around for a bit and then while reading some of the old logs we had guessed where it would be hiding. But where was it? We then found it. It had been well hidden by the last people.

TFTC

4th find of the day!

Across the creek we went. Had barley look, then someone looked at the clue. We turned around and had found it, great place!

TFTC

We had finished with our bike ride caches and had hoped in the car to find a few more this was the first.

Looked and looked. We read some of the previous logs. The youngest one was able to find it and get up into the tree to collect the cache.

Great spot for the cache but wouldn’t have been able to do without having three sets of eyes looking around.

TFTC.

2nd cache for the day.
We were looking for it everywhere, up high in trees, down low. Then just as we thought we may not find it, we found it laying on the ground(must have fallen down). We let the log dry out then returned it to a safer place near where it was laying on the ground.

The cache owner has asked us to caretake the cache so we will look to get a new container and log for it and return it to its initial location.

We rode to our 3rd cache of the day.
Look around for about 2 minutes. Then we saw it. A nice easy find.

There was no lid so if we have the chance we will replace the container.

Log is water logged

Found this morning on the way to school with the children. Reminded us that we need to go and watch the cars race here at some stage.

Log is extremely wet.

Found it this morning on the way to school. Unfortunately the log is so wet that we were unable to sign it. Have messaged the owner to see if they’d like us to help with cache maintenance.

Nonetheless, thanks for the cache!

Log is drenched. Happy to help dry it out and add a temporary log.
