Logs for Desert Dingo

14-Aug-05
Found at 1700 without too much difficulty. A nice walk in a bushland setting. TNLN
Thanks Quasar

03-Aug-05
Found by Jonty and Desert Dingo on the second pass.
Got to GZ on first try but not prepared to reach into places where we could not see what was inside.
Came back the next day with torch and gloves ready to do battle with spiders and snakes if necessary and found the container with no difficulty.
Unfortunately the contents were a mess, as someone had left a broken biro inside, and blue ink had leaked over everything. Cleaned it up with some difficulty and it is OK again now.
Took the Egyptian figure and left a lizard.
Thanks for the history lesson from J & DD

Thanks for another history lesson.
Great clues and an excellent hiding place.

It was very handy having the picnic table in the shade while working on the clues and enjoying the view. The GPS got us to within 5 meters of the cache. Then realised that it would be dificult to find by just blundering about in the area as it would take forever to cover every inch underneath all the ground cover. Used the brain for once instead of brute force, and looked for something just slightly unusual or out of place, and the cache was then easily found. We left a platypus in exchange for the lizard.
Thanks from Jonty & DD.

31-Jan-05
Found at lunchtime when there were a number of people in the area. Used the encrypted clues to retrieve the the cache without being too obvious searching. Left mini-tape and took platypus.
Thanks from Jonty & DD.

Thanks for the history lesson on the way to the cache. Exchanged a 28K modem for the little cheshire cat.

Took a while to find this one! Lots of good hiding places among the rocks to lead one astray, and the co-ordinates appear to be a little off, so I too needed to use the clue before I could find the cache. Exchanged an internal modem for the paint brushes. Spectacular views and well worth the effort. Thanks.

Rest and revive with this cache?? Having just come from the Pied Piper hill-climb I think this is another one designed with mountain goats in mind. Fortunately the co-ordinates were spot-on and right next to a good place to sit down to rest ones paws and have a good pant while enjoying the view. Exchanged the cheshire cat from the immortal cache for the dog's squeeky ball.

The cache has now gone. It is pointless replacing it, as I know from previous experience that the d*ckheads who removed it will only do the same again. This cache is now archived.
Thanks to all geocachers who visited.

09-Nov-02
Took a break from gliding at Benalla to look for this cache. Trotted up the hill on a very hot day and sniffed out the location fairly easily. Nice views to look at as I sat on a rock panting and recovering from the climb, but unfortunately the beer there was far too warm to even consider opening! Exchanged the notebook for some European coins.

03-Nov-02
Found on a sunny Sunday afternoon while taking a break from the Maldon Folk Festival which was just down the road a bit - a very convenient location!
Enjoyed the views and had a great weekend.
Took the candle and left some foreign coins.
Thanks for another great cache.

[I feel so clever !!
I was on the same grassy bit as Team Piggy explaining to Snow Tiger on his first cache hunt that the cache is now somewhere within 7 meters (as this was the accuracy of the GPS at the time) and we should now look around for something that appears slightly out of place, because some kind geocachers will leave a subtle clue. Something like] that piece of bark and two scraps of paper[ over there..... and walked straight up to where the cache was hidden.]

Had to search carefully to find this cache, but it is not a big problem when you know it must be there somewhere! Took the fridge magnet and left a phone cable.

Too well hidden for me Sad
My GPS indicated the cache should be about 3 m up-hill from the track, so I scrambled about the slope searching under trees and clumps of grass until it got too dark and I had to leave. Maybe better luck some other time.

11-Oct-02
Got quite close to it with the GPS, then it was just a matter of looking for an obvious place to hide a cache. (Although this method didn't work for me at the next cache down-river at Meccano Crossing - bugger!)
Took batteries and left a compass.
Nice walk in the park. Dog enjoyed the outing too.
Thanks.

20-Jun-02
Found on a Friday afternoon when there were no other people about. No problem locating the cache, although when I entered the co-ordinates while sitting on the rocks, the GPS pointed in a direction that appeared the cache might have been cunningly located on the other side of the river! The cache is very small and there was no room to fit in some of the larger coins I had brought along, but I did manage to leave some of the smaller Belgian and Swiss coins. Jonty the GPS dog helping me had a swim while I wrote in the log, and we both enjoyed the outing.

Found by the Desert Dingo helped by Jonty after about 5 minutes searching the area. The cache contents are still a bit wet, although the lid was very tight. Maybe it is not sealing properly. Took nothing - left some video disks.

Found after a short search of the area. Lead astray by the clue ** container close to the ground ** which had me looking in the tree branches for awhile. The cache is in good condition. Took the earphones and left some Thai currency.

Great location. Found it after about 20 minutes searching the area, and walking over the cache several times, as this time it was very well concealed under the rocks and sticks.
Took the old MMX cpu and left some Thai currency.

Replaced the container so contents are protected from water entry now. All items are still in good condition, and the little bear is waiting for a lift with someone heading North. (PS. The stashnote is at the front of the logbook)

09-Jul-01
Found without too much difficulty thanks to help from the previous reports. Today there were several people taking photos and climbing among the rocks so I joined them and did not feel too much out of place searching for the cache. It is well hidden but easy to find if you know what you are looking for. The cache is in excellent condition. I took nothing and added a bottle opener to the goodies.

Used Gahpees co-ordinates which took us right to the correct tree. First we found the hole where the cache used to be and thought it was gone. Then we searched the area a little more closely and discovered the new (better) hiding place which was not so obvious. We left a key ring in exchange for the table tennis ball. Thanks from DD & SO.

Hi Greg,
Found your cache on 26 December 2000. Had some initial difficulty as I did not have a map of the area, and I missed the correct turn-off on the Toolangi-Murrindi road. I found several tracks marked as Kalatha Road on the wrong side of the mountain but they soon became suitable for 4wd only when still about 2Km from the cache. Anyway, using the GPS to attack from several different directions I eventually found the right road and then with a bit of a scramble up the hill made it to the cache. I used a Garmin eTrex Summit GPS and it took me to within 2m of the correct position.
Nice spot, but as you say, it would not be too great in wet weather. I left you a computer mouse, and took the thingy with numbers on it for a souvenir.
Thanks for an interesting challenge.
Regards,
“The Desert Dingoâ€Â
