Logs for Dioptre

18-Mar-08
Sorry for the delay in archiving.

10-Aug-07
Just a quick visit to update the clue to The Vault.

The Vault is repaired, with a new puzzle to solve.

A pleasant and clever hiding place.

Thanks for the cache. Took nothing, left nothing.

01-Aug-07
Location is GONE.

25-Jul-07
New Key Location

11-Feb-07
After a near-muggle incident (thanks GEOBLASK for the notice) I've decided to make it a little less visible.

09-Feb-07
Found with little Dioptre this morning. Really enjoying this series. Some lovely little spots.

08-Feb-07
Missed the event, found the cache.
A very neat hide, in yet another little piece of
bushland I didn't know existed.

06-Feb-07
Lots of mosquitoes, but a nicely preserved cache in a lovely spot. Thanks for the series - I'm enjoying it.

03-Feb-07
The key is at the posted co-ordinates, on the rear bottom
corner of the red box.

16-Jan-07
Found after a little bit of searching in the dark. A nicely presented cache. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Took - sewing kit. Left - UV pen.

17-Nov-06
The key is back in play at the attached co-ordinates.

Nice spot, easy find.
The outer black bag was very wet inside, but the cache was fine.

Parked near the cache.
Climbed down the perilous cliff.
Bushbashed through lantana
Crossed the creek balancing on a log.
Trekked through the long grass.
45 minutes later, found the cache.

Walked along the concrete path back to the road and my car 50 metres away.

Nice spot. Lovely spot. Saw a lot of it.

Saw a wallaby too.

16-Nov-06
Great spot and an easy find.
Loved the view. I live near here, but didn't know the way up until now.

29-Aug-06
Dioptre will be there, assuming my wife isn't still sick.
Looking forward to it. I'll be at the dinner.

20-Aug-06
Found the cache easily on the second approach, after arriving once from the wrong direction and getting stuck in the gully.

Both log books and the camera are full. Didn't have spares to replace them.

Dropped off two travel bugs and a UV Pen.

17-Aug-06
Thanks to Lat&LongJunkie, this cache is back in operation.
DO NOT TOUCH THE CLOCK!!! Just sit and watch!

30-Jun-06
Maintenance required. Someone Sad changed the time on the clock, so it no longer gives the clue. I'll fix it this weekend.

09-May-06
Cache is fully back in action. Enjoy.

01-May-06
Cache reported as lacking power.
I won't disable it, as it is still visitable and
loggable.

If you visit this cache, email me for more info to
let you continue the series.

29-Apr-06
Found the tree with the likely spot that everyone mentions, but the listed co-ordinates put me in the middle of the mown grass, even with good GPS accuracy.

I'll be back to try out HawMorFords co-ordinates.

26-Apr-06
"The Key" travel bug is just a magnetic box with instructions.
I'll revise the travel bug page to make it clearer. Sorry for wasting your time.

The key has been released into the wild.

25-Apr-06
Cache enabled. Let the hunt begin.

Disabled until the rest of the series is ready.

29-Mar-06
The Detonator has been totally destroyed. It will be replaced ASAP.

Disabled after reports of smoke.
I'll check it out tonight and re-enable if appropriate.

22-Mar-06
Slightly relocated. Ready for more action.

Now that it's been found once, temporarily disabled to implement feedback. It will be back by the weekend, hopefully with more of the series.

15-Mar-06
Payed a visit today, after hints from Crew 153 as to the approximate location.

13-Mar-06
Nice hide. Found it easily, but it's nice and secure.
Took travel bug up to the coast.

Found today on a visit to Canberra. Good to have a few of these easy innercity caches for visitors.

12-Mar-06
Just on the way past on a day's caching. TNLNSL.
Clever container.

Visited by myself after a great day visiting caches in Moogerah Peaks National Park. The cache is cleverly located out of sight of the picnic area - there were muggles parked there but they couldn't see me remove & replace the cache.

Took bottle-top travel bug, left nothing.

Joined Crew 153, the NoSugRefs, Bedmaker and Lat&LongJunkies to make the climb to the cache and then to the summit. Our first for a great day. Thanks to them for the day, and you for a nice cache.

Left Multi-tool, took plastic dinosaur & mini-ball.

Our second for the day. After climbing Mount Edwards, Lat&LongJunkies and Bedmaker and I went on to complete this one.

A warning - the path is used by BGS schoolboys on a regular basis - when the dam is near full they jump into the creek just below the cache site. Later in the year they orienteer through this area. You may want to move the cache further into the bush or conceal it more thoroughly.

Left Caribiner torch

Our third for the day, with Bedmaker and Lat&LongJunkies. An easy find, in a great spot. Don't go here without visiting the lookout as well.

We had some doubts about the water-security of the container, so we put the log in a watertight bag, and replaced the first-aid kit with some tools.

10-Mar-06
Episode 1: In which Dioptre discovers the toolbox, and learns that following a manual compass bearing at night is not only foolish, but may qualify one for a Darwin Award.

Stay tuned for Episode 2, in which Dioptre returns armed with daylight and a trigometric calculator.

09-Mar-06
Cache has been raided by an unlogged visitor, who took a
fun item, and returned the cache to its hiding place.

Very disappointing. Cache has been restocked.

Acosted by a muggle concerned by local vandals.

Still can't find the clue. Searched over the stump, in the stump, around the base of the stump.

Couldn't find this one. GPS put me right at the bridge, which was surrounded by _very_ long grass. Didn't have the hint with me, so didn't think to check nearby trees in the park.

Ok, I must have got this one and bowl mixed up. Both are very overgrown. No way to get under the bridge here without going through eye-high grass, and serious brushcutter work needed to navigate around bowl. Couldn't find either in the dark.

A walk in the park. Felt like a druggie signing the log at GZ.

08-Mar-06
Couldn't find the clue cache. Lots of long grass and thorns surrounding the stump near the WP, but no cache.

Night visit. Came in from Jones St. Couldn't find a trail that would take me within 200m of the Cache, so went cross country. Very good exercise. I was very grateful to find the cache right at the published co-ordinates.

Found a trail leading out. Got lost again about 30m from Jones St. Eventually found my way out.

Great experience, but I generally wouldn't recommend this cache at night due to spiders, mosquitos and unsteady footing.

Cache in good condition, except for the plastic bag, which needs replacing. Didn't have one with me.

Left travel bug and electrical tape. Took nothing.
