Logs for digby23

Another friendly find!
A good way to spend time together - thank Geocaching buddies!
Great gamesmanship on the Croquet Lawn - Skybo you are a natural!
Well played to all.

Geo-Haiku:
The last day of Spring
Brings the first day of Summer
Lets wish for some rain!

20-Nov-14
And you try and tell the young cachers of today that .... they won't believe you.

19-Nov-14
How did I miss this one before? Took a crew-cut for me to find it.
The rest has already been said about this hide!
Cheers Jords. - Good to put this one to bed.

Geo-Haiku:
Finally got it
Some times you can't see the wood
Until the tree goes!

It must have been very pleasing to have this mystery puzzle come together so well EDF!
It was like magic when all the pieces just fell together before my eyes. Why there aren't more favourites given for this one is another mystery!
I must admit to not making much of an effort to get to GZ until today, as the satisfaction of getting the green light was enough when solved a few months ago.
As it happens, I was caching with KRS today down at Bicentennial Park and it was a simple detour to get to 'the the' GZ to complete the signing duties on the way back home.

Thanks EDF - I really like the way you play this game.

Geo-Haiku:
Thank you for the smile.
Worthy of a favourite!
Now, to solve some more...

I am always intrigued when the numbers don't seem to add up. I had my own ideas so headed to the park to test my theory.... everything looked good - attributes worked and the location looked promising but nothing found. Hmmm... better rethink the whole thing and trust in ALL the clues provided.
Having seen the KRS DNF, I quickly called 'cache busters' and luckily he was still on the scene so together we continued the search. Putting all our thoughts in the one hat seemed to do the trick and hey presto!
Thanks for showing me how to convert this one KRS and thanks for a great mornings caching F and VJ!

Geo-Haiku:
Just stick to the rules
Follow all the clues given
The answer is there!

18-Nov-14
Particularly funny? We used to dream of being funny... best we could manage was the jokes from last years Christmas Crackers!

16-Nov-14
What a wonderful adventure!
We started off at a lovely and very nearby property for lunch and only had to drive around the block to get to this delightful churchyard.
Having a wonderfully enthusiastic and mathematically literate muggle with me was such a bonus.
We were able to nut this one out using scientific deduction, logic and good old fashioned fun!
Having almost given up for lack of time and a photographer with us who was keen to return to the farm, we suddenly and collectively had that 'light-bulb' moment, and with a flurry of determination we made it to GZ and had the cache in hand with a rousing shout of 'Hurrah' - and of course, smiles all around.
A well constructed multi puzzle I must say. The added bonus was that it gave us a good look around this final resting place of people with such historical significance and interesting lives.

Thanks you Booo'sDad for such an engaging activity. Well deserving of a favourite.

It must also be noted that St 'Matthews' (in the title) in this instance is certainly spelt with two 'T's' and 'defenitely' is definitely spelt 'definitely'! Smile

Geo-Haiku:
Got there finally
But to those 'true believers'
Nothing is final

08-Nov-14
I was needing to get some clues for a KRS Multi, so I decided to make an adventure for the day. Having parked at the tennis courts I headed straight down towards the freeway following a wallaby trail until I reached a barbed wire fence.
I followed it north until I spotted a drainage ditch which I figured must lead to the tunnel - which it did. On my way back out I met a family coming the other way along the ditch which indicated that the trail I saw to the west of the ditch must go to and from suburbia. So, n the way out I took this fire trail which although it wound about a bit it did lead me straight back to the entry gates to the tennis courts. The upshot is that apart from coming in from the east or North through the Kuring-gai bush, there are a number of easier (legal and sensible) ways of getting to the cache.
The tunnel was a highlight. There is something 'cool' about being under the freeway and heading into the bush with all those vehicles passing by oblivious to your presence and probably the tunnel as well. If you are musically inclined, take a flute or any instrument and check out the acoustics. They really are quite spectacular. I only had my voice with me so a few Gregorian chants worked a treat as the echo is so long it allows your voice to get a four part harmony going! Once out the other side I climbed up to the left and closed in on GZ. made my way past up and around to get to the guardian where the signing duties were completed.
I really enjoyed this adventure 2 Dogs! I also got the clues I required and completed a few more sections of the KRS Multi.

Geo-Haiku:
Echoes of the past
From the tunnel of The Dogs...
Asquith Adventure!

Sound like a job for Chief Inspector digby23!
“First you must find... another chocolate! (dramatic chord) Then, when you have found that chocolate, you must place it here, beside this chocolate, only slightly higher so you get a two layer effect with a little path running down the middle. ("A path! A path!") Then, you must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest... with... a herring!
What a task you put us through... Satan! Constable Tyreless must indeed be tireless. It took me two days and 3 phone batteries to complete your task and I only made it to Camelot (although it was only a model) this morning at 9.40. Great fun, and a wonderful way to see the bulk of the bushland north of Wahroonga. Next time though, can I just go down to the shops and get you twenty Rothmans?
Well deserving of a favourite - particularly as Tyreless obviously ate all the favourites along the way... So I grabbed the only thing left which was the TB.

Geo-Haiku:
Your mission today
Should you agree to take it
Is just plain crazy!

07-Nov-14
While searching out the way points for 'How About A Crunchy Frog'?' KRS had kindly noted that 'the track heads NNW past another cache and then down hill'... which was very helpful as I was not sure I had the KRS coords worked out. Seeing 'Ophidiophobia' was just off the track I was taking I knew I was on the right track AND I got to find this cache as a bonus. Great places those rocky outcrops and a good place to rest up and really feel the bush. My phone said I was within 4 metres and I found the hide without much trouble. Bush hides are certainly a favourite and when I have a point to award I certainly will. Thanks 2 dogs - a great hide and a great help!

Geo-Haiku:
A snake in the grass?
A herpetologists dream!
For most, a nightmare...

25-Oct-14
On a rather warm Saturday afternoon I wandered over to have a look for this re-incarnation. My phone would not settle and had me quite some distance away down in the bush behind the garden. With the ratings for this hide in mind I put the phone away and went commando. Sure enough, I found the hide fairly quickly by remembering the location as indicated on the Geo-map. It was then I met Doug who was just shutting up shop following the morning gardening activities. I did indeed learn quite a bit about the community garden from him, which is looking quite amazing and is flourishing in this glorious spring weather.
Wonderful piece of work C62 - thanks for your efforts!

Geo-Haiku:
Its a little house
Built with a very big heart
In the spring garden

Geo-Haiku:
Christmas is coming,
A Zargfinders 'meet and greet '...
You can count me in!

11-Oct-14
Well that was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. It is always good to meet up with my fellow cachers and put names to faces. Thanks Geocaching NSW and Calypso62 and The Drovers for contributing to an awesome day, and thanks for the sentence to cut and paste skybo! You have a way with words that I can only dream of.
Also, thanks to Zalgariath ('El Presidente') for letting me win at Croquet - Otherwise it may have looked like piinkDeluxe and I let YOU win to gain favours.... I look forward to a return match at our next gathering.

Geo-Haiku:
How to make new friends -
Be a social schmetterling'
At an Event Cache!

08-Oct-14
I was waiting for those who are on FTF missions to swoop before looking for this one.
(This hide is only 400 metres from home!)

By 8pm there were no logs so I headed down anyway and made the find at 8.10m behind Yurt and Gatherer Hade. I was looking for a micro and as this was a bit larger than expected I missed it on the first pass. Completed signing and left a penny balloon 'token'.
(The container is large enough for Geo-coins and small trinkets.)

This is a good spot to watch the trains hit the bend and trundle past. Seeing the commuters inside the train from out there in the dark reminded me of reading 'Whistle up the Chimney' to my sons and my daughter when they were little.
Thanks for the memory jolt and the hide BB!

Geo-Haiku:
Click, clickety clack...
Says the train along the track
Or something like that!

07-Oct-14
Oops! Forgot to log this one which I found on the 22nd of September! I blame the school holidays...
I don't know how I could have missed this hide the first time as I remember the unusual wasp? nest on a nearby rock.
I saw the image on my phone today which reminded me to log this find.
I left a few trinkets and grabbed the home run Geo-coin to move along.
Thanks Yelyac - do you know what sort of insect builds this kind of nest?

Geo-Haiku:
No snakes found today
Might have a look in summer
Or, maybe I won't...

Heading to the shops I thought I might swing by and have another look after a did not find last year. Had a sudden urge to look for this one commando, so I left the phone behind and went straight up to GZ and the obvious camo - Thanks for putting this one back in circulation 'Young' Yurt!
I wonder what 'skybo' found?
Geo-Haiku:
No rabbits today,
But a blue sky like summer -
With the heat to match!

06-Oct-14
Found at 1.30 pm... Full log to follow.

05-Oct-14
Found back on the 22nd of last month - seeing the image I took from near GZ of the rail widening works in my phone prompted me to log! Thanks BB for another train spotter - plenty of action down on the line.
Geo-Haiku:
As the trains go by
Its only the chosen few
Who find the treasure

03-Oct-14
Heading to Mittagong and stopped for mangoes, strawberries and this find. Quite an obvious path to this one - also a little uncomfortable wandering from the rest area to the trees and squatting to do the signing, but a bit of CITO on the way out seemed to be a good option to fool the muggles.
TFTC TC!
Geo-Haiku:
Do sleeping trucks dream?
Never crossed my mind before,
But I bet they do!

Stopped here after 'sleeping trucks' on the way to Mittagong - Not at all surprised that at the time of this log the cache has attracted 145 'favourites' - A great example of how the game is played.

A note of warning though - If you are caching here with young ones, or anybody who is a bit distracted while searching for the hide, please be aware that cars and bikes can and will drive through the tunnel - I just managed to step out of the way of a speeding motorcycle whose noise was drowned out by the trucks passing on the highway above.
Take care!

Thanks Bulba's - well worthy of a favourite from me!

Geo-Haiku:
'Pheasant's Nest' OK -
Safe, secure and hidden well.
Nature is so cool!

02-Oct-14
Field log - found in 4th place at 2.35! Full log to follow...

Looked before the updated coords - a bit disappointing that the coords weren't double checked before publishing... I'll try again another time!

Well the Hippie and I had no such assistance and no such luck. I'll be back another time!

23-Sep-14
Found this morning thanks to KRS coords, which I found to be quite accurate. The term 'warren' does not seem to apply but 'hole' probably does...
Good to have this one finally found.
Geo-Haiku:
I thought I'd be late -
That was quite a long tunnel!
Think I should have walked...

21-Sep-14
I also missed the notification for this hide when it came out - not to worry - a simple park and grab. I left a few trinkets as well. It would not surprise me if this does become fire wood after a bit of seasoning.... Interesting to see such grand houses looking out to a boarded up world.
Quite a number of the grand old homes in this area were either left empty or rented out to students back in the early 80's during the construction of the F1/M1. I remember one particular property with expansive lawns around a circular driveway with established gardens and a shed with an old model T Ford inside. There were so many rooms to these houses that you could rent a room for $40.00 a week!
Thanks for the cache hazzeral!
Geo-Haiku:
We have no progress
without some deviation...
So says Frank Zappa

TB drop.

20-Sep-14
Curiouser and curiouser... intrigued by a KRS DNF I headed off this morning to check this one out.
I found the easier entry was from Carcoola Road (see Gallery) but like those before me found no warrens, no orange marmalade, and not a single rabbit hole either. Further, it did not seem logical for a rabbit hole to be so near to a creek where it could get flooded.
All the same, thanks for an interesting adventure molloney!
Geo-Haiku:
I shall be too late!
Now where is that white rabbit?
Surely not down there!

14-Sep-14
Found on a glorious spring day - There were plenty of bikes and horses on the track today but they all seemed to be just going there and getting back - I could not but help stopping to take in the beauty of this wonderful area. I did, however, forget to check the new coords before heading off on the trail and as a consequence I overshot the mark by quite some distance. This proved to be a good thing, as the views further along the trail are truly spectacular and worth the climb up the steepest slope encountered, which I might have baulked at if I had found the cache first and then said 'I wonder what is around the next corner'...
Thanks for another excuse to get out and about Tyreless - Hides like this are always a favourite -
New coords were spot on and I sat like royalty for quite some time drinking in the view and the general loveliness of the creek below.
Geo-Haiku:
Wonderful Cowan
Such a glorious beauty
River, full of fish...

06-Sep-14
As I was in the area and just came from the 'bamboo chamber' I thought I should have a look for this one.
A really good example of the mangroves - I was there in the pouring rain which made it all the more beautiful.
Having had no luck at the Buffalo Boardwalk it was good to find something in the Buffalo reserve!
Thanks for the invitation Pyobeon - I will be returning to walk further to the river and check out 'The Big Rock'multi.
Geo-Haiku:
Even in the rain,
The mangroves are beautiful
And so say the birds.

I was in the area having another go at 'Buffalo Boardwalk' (without success!) so I thought I should try something an easier difficulty rating.
I came in from Blue Gum Drive and thus avoided having to cross the creek... As other finders have stated, there are a number of hide options here and the 'tracks to nowhere' were just red herrings - probably laid during the previous searchers. This was not a typical Jourds style hide so it had me looking in the wrong places for longer than I should!
All in all a good piece of urban bushland. Try heading down the creek if you are inclined to take in more of the beauty of this area. The creek meanders over rock and under bough with various waterfalls along the way. Quite charming.
Thanks Jourds for a findable hide!

Geo-Haiku:
Right here in the Burbs
A charming piece of bushland
With song birds to match

Being in the Buffalo area I thought this one should be attempted although the warning about wet weather was ominous as this particular Saturday had the rain bucketing down in between the sunshine.
I did go down from the path, then into the chamber and found the container after finding a third hint item. After signing I climbed up and out past the brick-work drain - really not a problem even with the rain coming down.
Thanks EDF and family - all that crawling through the foliage took me back to my childhood!

Geo-Haiku:
Crawling through the mud
Rain and sunlight pouring in
Oh, to be so young!

29-Aug-14
This is what it is all about! How lucky to be near so many beautiful bush walks. If it wasn't for the Cygnet series I can't imagine how I would have found myself walking those tracks. These are my favourite hide types - thanks hydoflare - a really enjoyable task in wonderful bush settings. Great to see the creek in such good condition and without the usual plastic rubbish so sadly present in most of our urban bushland.
Geo-Haiku:
Gotta love the bush
In winter or in summer
Always beautiful

Found a while ago - checking my camera for a date! Love the casuarina forest - like rainbow spirit, I love these hides as they take you to places you would have to have a reason to find.
Thanks for the invite Yurt!
Geo Haiku:
Long and winding road
That took me straight to nowhere;
My favourite place!

24-Aug-14
Nanny and Bo hides are almost always 'kid friendly' - I took my Geo-niece with me to find this one.
She picked up on the concept fairly quickly and we soon had CIH.
Thanks for a nice easy find N&B - with harder finds the kids tend to get discouraged after a few minutes...
Took the Es Stuck Schwiiz Trackable to move on and we swapped a few trinkets as well.
Geo-Haiku:
Emma's Dilemma
Was a little easier
Than making a Guess!

Wandered over from 'Emma's Dilemma' with Geo-niece who was keen to find her second hide. Thanks again N&B for another kid-friendly hide.
Geo-Haiku:
Now where could it be?
For a while my niece was stumped,
But then she guessed right!

23-Aug-14
Also stayed about half an hour but no luck. Met up with sjamp and the way out - nice to meet you!
Left sjamp to have a solo try then returned to try to work it out between us.... we could almost smell the french fries and hotdogs!!
I'll watch this space. If you are passing by Jords - post a note if it's still there and really get us all wondering! Thanks for an intriguing afternoons search.
Geo-Haiku:
Couldn't find the cache
Even bathed in Winter sun
Under the boardwalk?

Found after having no luck at Buffalo Boardwalk. Walked straight up to GZ and just managed to avoid slipping into the creek. With the recent rain the previous finders 'footprints' were obvious.
Thanks for providing an easier find edf!
Geo-Haiku:
Itchy AND scratchy.
Danger when the water flows.
Careful where you step!

08-Aug-14
My first letterbox, and so close to home! I parked in Tamboon Ave and had a simple walk in and down to GZ. Growing up in Turramurra meant that security clearance was easy for me - thanks b@w - a really nice piece of bushland as well. Worthy of a nostalgic favourite!
Geo-Haiku:
Can you tell the time?
We used to dial that number...
But not any more.

26-Jul-14
Found this one back in January, but forgot to log, so I went back today to check my log date. There were only a few logs on the scroll but not mine, so I must have signed the first time just before the scroll was replaced by Goughy. Signed again today and then headed off for a bit of train spotting.
Thanks Goughy - I still had to have a good feel around to find it again - tricky little sucker!
Geo-Haiku:
Funny things micros...
I thought I would remember,
Look left AND look right!

20-Jul-14
Actually found a while ago but went back to check the date for this log. Be very careful of the Casuarina needles under foot in this area - they can be very slippery! Certainly not recommended for children or dogs.
Thanks for an excuse to get to this place Yurt!
Geo-Haiku:
On a winters day
Gazing to the street below
I am an Island

07-Jul-14
Found with Snoopy as the light was fading... This is not a place for 'small children' after dark.
The ground is littered with tripping sticks and ankle twisting hollows. A fairly easy find though, especially with two looking. Great night views to the city from the cul-de-sac nearby.
Kia ora, ww!
Geo-Haiku:
In the park on dark
Winter wind blows through the trees
Hear the leaves shiver!

05-Jul-14
Also a DNF - Like calypso62, I'm not keen on heights and felt this one was too daring to tackle alone.
I recommend taking a partner with no fear of heights and commando skills if you plan to look for this hide. Great spot to visit though, and good memories of 'Royal North'. When I played here many years ago it was the only golf course with 17 holes. You could play the Ninth again to make up 18. The picture taken by bella was the Thirteenth hole in my day, but the numbers did change as they added the eighteenth ..... Thanks for the bush walk fred008!
Geo-Haiku:
So what's with the spade?
(My climbing days are over...)
Is there a tunnel?

22-Jun-14
Found after a 'CITO' morning with Jourds and co. at Buffalo Creek. Not so easy to pin point owing to the tree cover but eventually found thanks to the clues. TFTC yagen!

Geo-Haiku:
Should have been easy...
I'll just blame the spider webs,
And the canopy!

Found after a 'CITO' morning with Jourds and co. at Buffalo Creek. I usually avoid Playground hides which is sad but an unfortunate modern phenomenon which I guess our society will have to get used to... Fortunately the park was deserted today apart from the neighbours dog who decided to come for a play and a bark... as it would have been impossible to find this hide if there were children playing.

Geo-Haiku:
Who let the dogs out?
What happened to the orchard?
So many questions!

Found after a 'CITO' morning with Jourds and co. at Buffalo creek. Took a while to work out the clue - very helpful with so many nooks and cranny's! I happen to like graffiti when it is well done, and the 'graffito' around the drain pipes to the west of GZ is much better than the plain ugly concrete which lies underneath. Thanks for showing me another hidden gem Antipodes!

Geo-Haiku:
Nature and concrete;
Not always compatible -
Just needs a paint job!

This was actually my first CITO event - thanks for organising Jords. Amazing to see how much rubbish can accumulate in such a small area. Great to meet up with all my friends. It felt like we spent more time chatting and exchanging stories afterwards than doing the actual clean-up!
Geo-Haiku:
Who are these people
Who never 'do the right thing'?
It makes me wonder...

16-Jun-14
I saw Ris and Snoop coming so I held off knowing how seriously they take their FTF chances - It could have got ugly! I patiently waited for them to make the find - all the while acting like a muggle so they could sign in before me. They didn't suspect a thing! I was hoping to be the first to ride the 'flying fox' though, but because of OH and S reasons it was out of action tonight... 'The One Far Above' put a stop to the dangerous practice of pretending to fly and that was that.
Thanks for organising a fine evening meeting Horus11 - Sorry I missed the exodus - I'll be back to watch for the winged creatures another time!
Geo-Haiku:
Falcon-headed man
The sacred god of the sky
Floats above us all.

14-Jun-14
Great work as always Calypso62! Discovered on my early morning walk. Still my favourite of favourites.
Geo-Haiku:
Marvin would be pleased.
Completely 'earth shattering'...
So... out of this world!

01-Jun-14
A great way to spend an overcast Sunday. Always good to catch up and meet some new cachers.
Calypso stole the show as usual with his fabulous games of skill and his brilliant photography...
Geo-Haiku:
Thank you Calypso...
(the 'Artful Geo-Cacher')
Fagin would be pleased!

25-May-14
Finally had a chance to turn off the Pennant Hills Rd and have a look for this one. I walked down the footpath and saw this without having to try. It is a bit obvious, but I suppose if curiosity isn't your thing, you might not see it or care to find out what it is... Hopefully it wont be muggled any time soon.
Thanks TSW.
Geo-Haiku:
Such a busy road!
Everyone was Hurrying -
No one saw a thing!
