Logs for holcomberogue

02-Nov-11
Thanks for the cache. A nice spot.
But wildlife refuge?
A virtual monoculture mown and with no margins left by the creek with a few trees.

Amazing lives these people led, eh.
Thanks from the Holcomberogues for taking us here all the way from Devon, England.

Great carvings which reminded us of China the way it was laid out.

How is it we see hardly anyone else all walk but 2 other groups arrived just after we did!
We hung around till they left.

The gps in that spot was only able to take us to within 10m. And looking for a micro! Luckily there were only a limited number of the hints.
Thanks again for a most enjoyable way of exploring the area from us from Devon, England.

Was getting hungry after the walk so it was good to be nearing the car.
Thanks for the walk. We loved it.

Don't know how we missed it first go despite mulling the hint and coming up zilch. So we went home, googled the hint yet again, zilch again, reviewed the logs and came back again. Found it. Came home, googled the hint again. Still none the wiser but thanks anyway for the fun.

Found at 2nd attempt. I'd put the co-ords in wrongly 1st time! Thank you from the Holcomberogues of Devon, England.

Saw this new cache last night and not logged as found so went first thing this morning to find it had been found yesterday. Never had a FTF.
Good for us English visitors to find somewhere new to walk.

How long are your arms?

Went with a friend who was a local. Her children went to the preschool opposite. It is now a house. The trees mentioned on the markers are probably still there in the garden. Now these plaques on our public view. Her husband watched the All Blacks win the RWC last weekend in the hall.

Great carving. Thanks for bringing us to it. That's what's good about geocaching. Alternative tourist info.

Fun.
GPS took us to obvious hiding place that fitted hint but not there. Did find it in the long grass and returned it as per hint.
Never seen a part of the Hinds with water in it before.

Easy enough to find but it was full to the brim with water even with the lid on.
Gave mouth to mouth and chest compression to the Fairy. We wrapped her up warm. Hope she survives. We are from Devon, England enjoyed the history.
Couldn't write in the log so left a piece of paper with our name on it.

Found it once we went back to the car and read about the urns on my bit of paper!
Another one for the Devon, England Holcomberogues

Must apologise to Edward George. Just put him into Google, only to find what a worthy and respected gent he was.

Needless to say today, Mrs Holcomberogue looked at the right one while I looked at the wrong one.
Those of you into podcasts, sport and laddish humour might like to try the "Fighting Talk" podcast on the BBC website. It was broadcast live from Aintree this year on Grand National Day. I am a regular subscriber.

I was searching at 6 and Mrs Holcomberogue was searching at 7. She found it! Not my day for finding them today. Replaced it at 6.

Took a little while, even lifted up the stopcock cover - well, not on the ground, so maybe under!
Thanks again

Found the cache but not the tool, so made our own. We love low tech solutions.

First find before setting off on the long walk down the road.
Thank you.

Found it despite looking for a micro because it said it was a micro but the title said it's not a micro.
Contents were very wet and could do with drying.
Interesting bit of history. Thanks.

Found it but there were 2 roads and 2 signs. As the picture in the gallery shows. Ah, well. Nice easy find for us from Devon, England.

Great reading the grave inscriptions. So much history happened. Met in Tasmania, eh. Ex convict?
Nice place to visit on our trip from Devon, England. Shame the church wasn't open.

Needless today on a day when I could find nothing, Mrs Holcomberogue sat at the right spot and I sat at the wrong one!
Great cache.

Mrs Holcomberogue found it because I was looking where my gps said it was and she was looking for likely places in the vicinity! About 7m away from me.
Friends, just up the road, helped put this area together and had no idea about geocaching; so did not know about this cache.
No travel bug though.

Yup. Can see why it's called that. Came all the way from Devon, England to find it!
Had to access it via fields 'er paddocks as it was overgrown. Luckily no animals.

Got it the long way round but then we are from England so everything is upside down here. Still don't understand why we don't fall off.

Got it after the scramble. Had a good beach walk afterwards at Kakanui. Great to see dotterels nesting on the stones, in the open.

Found at 2nd attempt when Mrs Holcomberogue came and was less squeamish about where she was putting her fingers!
Think the dogwalkers are taking the p*** when they should be taking the p**.

Well. The Holcomberogues from Devon, England, were cruising down from Oamaru to Dunedin and thought , "Hey, this place looks interesting." So we stopped for a photo and after that nature called. So I moved out of sight, and while enjoying the view, and the relief thought, "Mmmmm. That looks as if a geocache could be there." Sure enough; to our delight, there was.
Thank you.

Enjoyed the smell and the cache set me thinking ............
Thanks

There was nothing at the 2nd (see hint) but found it at the 1st. Left it at the 1st as it is well hidden. Would be out in the open at the 2nd.

We love Okains Bay. We cam all the way from Devon, England to find this one. It hadn't been found for some time so was overgrown. Thank you.

The Holcomberogues from Devon England found this. We will upload Elmo pics later.
We spent a year living in Stranges Rd 10 years ago and never found this domain, so thank you for steering us to it on this trip.

The Holcomberogues from Devon England found it. Thanks very much for the fun.
Important to write down all info as some ambiguity as to which is first and second word but our first attempt got us to 20 metres of it but at a point we knew we couldn't go further; wherupon our geocachers eyes took over while I redid the co ords and we arrived together.

The Holcpmberogues from Devon England found it. Thanks.

The Holcomberogues from Devon England found it. The Welcome is temporarily a Spring Fest which caused some confusion but loved the "other" sized cache.

Another Ashburton cache strikes the dust on our 3 month house swap here from the UK. TFTC

Got it at the 2nd attempt.
The English are here and this escape was only about 300m from where we are house swapping.
TFT fun.

On our way back from Boulevard Day we walked over the bridge and looked over trying to remember what we had read for the cache and thought I bet it's there. And it was!

Imagine arriving from England to a house that is to be your home till mid December (House swapping) and finding that there is a cache 120m from there.
Luckily the trolls didn't get me.
We don't have a cat so no photo.

On a trip from Devon England. Found it while visiting friends living just up the road. Good introduction to geocaching for them as they knew all the info and had walked past the cache site many times without knowing it was there.

A whale, dolphins, seals, wabballies and our first Aussie geocache within a couple of hours of stepping off the boat! Great beach. TFTC

Found it on great walk to Branscombe and back. Followed up with Addleston's cider in a pub and a meal at Steamers. The smoked haddock rissotto is amazing.
Thanks Scouts.
