Logs for jrotenstein

09-May-10
Revisited the cache. Noticed that the logbook is full, so if somebody is planning on visiting this cache, it'd be great if they could bring another one (standard pocket notebook will fit).

Ah, the biggest cache box for the geomatica triple-cache! Took the fluffy dice that I think "infamous five" left behind and left a couple of new trackables -- Flying Pig Sock and E.T -- plus toys and DVDs. Enjoy! Thank you to geomatica for the new caches!

Watched some golf until the area was clear, then grabbed geokiddies quickly found the cache! Nice one.

We were trying to be stealthy at this one, waiting for the Japanese golfers finish teeing off. Then we heard some stamping sounds and found "infamous five" searching for the cache. They found it before us! In the end, we realised that stealth wouldn't help because there were heaps of people having a Mothers Day picnic nearby! Nice spot from GZ, overlooking the Tee.

30-Jan-10
Found it pretty easily, thanks to the Hint. Not much in there, so deposited a few toys. TFTC!

Too many potential hiding spots, decided to try other caches rather than battle this one out. Lots of beaten paths in the area, don't know if they were significant.

Found it, thanks to the previous visitors who advised against searching through rubbish. Three pennies remain!

Yep, the Hint made it pretty obvious. Just keep taking paths upwards and follow the GPS signal! Geokids took some balloons, left other toys. TFTC!

17-Jan-10
Archived.

Cache has disappeared. Looks like it was forcibly removed. I'm not going to replace it.

Congratulations to those who found it during its 10-month life, and apologies to wellofsou0 who tried to find it after it had gone AWOL.

29-Dec-09
Confirmed its disappearance. Archiving.

09-Dec-09
Cache has been muggled. Not intending to re-create.

07-Dec-09
Dropped in some travelbugs from recent USA trip.

30-Oct-09
Log book has been dried, bagged and returned to cache container.

27-Oct-09
Log book temporarily removed due to dampness. I had incorrectly assumed that the cache box would be waterproof. D'oh!

This won't prevent finding of the cahce and opening of the cache box, but you won't be able to sign for the moment.

08-Oct-09
Woohoo!

We completed this over two days. The first day involved visiting the waypoints, photographing clues (thanks for that hint, Deputy D0g!) and sweltering in the heat. We then managed to figure out the Crossword even though we were missing many of the clues (in fact, we never could figure out Waypoint 4).

On the second day, we went straight for the original cache site (thank you Google Satellite Maps!), almost got blown away by the chilly wind and spent a bit of time looking for the clue (the Wandering Wilkos' clue is quite helpful, only wish we'd read it beforehand!). Punched the co-ordinates into the GPS, saw it was on the Central Coast, figured out the correction and found the cache pretty easily.

The cache was a little stark -- just the log book, no coins or even a pencil. Sad

Riblit -- thanks for this one, we enjoyed travelling through an area of Sydney that we never knew existed! Oh, and have a look at the sculpture on the roundabout viewable from GZ -- most humourous! TNLN TFTC.

21-Sep-09
Passed by today on the way to Ace in the Hole and can confirm that Dodge This! is still present. You'll just have to try harder! Smile

06-Sep-09
I popped into this cache yesterday (Saturday) since so many people were reporting DNF.

It's still there, stealthful as ever. It's only visible if you're very tall, but it's within hand's reach (gnomes and dwarves excepted).

24-Aug-09
I tried contacting the cache owner a while ago and never heard back. Agree, should be archived.

22-Aug-09
Pictures disappeared from cache listing due to a change in the GCA URL path. Now fixed!

16-Aug-09
Alas, I approached from the wrong elevation, descended as advised but the GPSr decided to run out of juice there and then.

After a quick move of the car and a recharge for the GPSr, I still couldn't find it before sunfall forced me to finish. Looks to me like it's "inside" the rock! Perhaps another day...

(#8 in our Turkey Shoot weekend, where we are trying the Burkey Turkey caches!)

Co-ordinates are exactly correct. But, it would have saved us some time to know the elevation! Smile

Left a new Track-a-Bear, took Civil War coin.

(#5 in our Turkey Shoot weekend, where we are trying the Burkey Turkey caches!)

Whoa, this was fun! A car is definitely required.

WP1 took a bit of looking, but WP2 & WP3 were easy. I was totally stumped by WP4 until the Burkeys themselves happened by and helped me out. D'oh! How silly of me. Probably would have been more obvious if I had somebody else with me.

The final GZ was made easy by the fact that I visited on a weekend, so no muggles about. Thanks for a fun ride around Killara!

Left Hide & Seek Geocoin 3, Took a strange wooden GC labelled "Buffalo Bob NC -- Where Am I? 0149" that doesn't seem to be trackable.

Burkeys -- thanks for the fun this weekend!

(#7 in our Turkey Shoot weekend, where we are trying the Burkey Turkey caches!)

Phew! This one had me stumped, but thanks to some very specific clues from the Burkeys themselves, we managed to find it.

Funny thing is -- I wrote down the co-ordinates of the actual find so I could suggest a correction, only to find my measurements were exactly the same as the official ones! Must be the rock walls or the rocks in my head that caused that confusion!

Left Civil War GC, took FlyCoinFly GC (with a very early TB number!).

(#6 in our Turkey Shoot weekend, where we are trying the Burkey Turkey caches!)

15-Aug-09
An easy find since the location was obvious, but it the geokiddies wouldn't agree.

We brought our dog, so we had a nice run around the oval, too!

(#4 in our Turkey Shoot weekend, where we are trying the Burkey Turkey caches!)

Ha! That clue is pretty worthless! Plus, I'd add the fact that it's not a good cache for taking a dog.

We didn't read the clues and approached from the wrong direction (from the top), but fortunately the coordinates were accurate and the rocks were scalable!

Swapped some goodies, left a new Track-a-Bear "Confused Mickey".

(#3 in our Turkey Shoot weekend, where we are trying the Burkey Turkey caches!)

Geokiddy found this while I was still waiting for the GPSr to warm up! Swapped some goodies.

(#2 in our Turkey Shoot weekend, where we are trying the Burkey Turkey caches!)

An easy find, since strike-a-light, blossom* and mother were already there, taking photographs. It appears that they're doing the grand caching tour of the Lower North Shore, and it was lovely to meet them.

Nice hiding spot for this cache. There's a neat little hiding hole, but that's not where we found the cache. However, it was extremely close by.

Took "Hide&Seek Geocoin 3 by Andy1977" presumably left by blossom* just minutes before.

(#1 in our Turkey Shoot weekend, where we are trying the Burkey Turkey caches!)

07-Aug-09
Easy find thanks to the hint!

Whoa, took the long way around to find this one. Thanks for the hint - wouldn't have persevered enough without it!

04-Aug-09
It did feel a little ceepy going up this laneway. Some strange debris lying there. (How did that pair of torn jeans get there, I wonder?)

Found the cache pretty easily thanks to the hints. I wouldn't expect a GPSr to work in there! TFTC.

21-Jul-09
Checked it -- it's still there, stealthy as ever!

If you're doing this cache, you can also visit the nearby "Ace in the Hole" cache from geocaching.com.au.

Cache published on GCA.

07-Jun-09
After a DNF over a year ago, and a lot of practice since, we managed to find this one quite easily. Yes, it more 'pops out' at you than hides.

The container was broken, so I wrapped everything in a plastic bag before reinserting. Grabbed Lucy & Roo's geocoin, left some extra goodies.

After a DNF over a year ago, and a lot of practice since, the geokiddies managed to find this one in no time at all.

Left some toys for the somewhat depleted cache.

06-Jun-09
Ha! Took me ages to work up the courage to open this one. Obvious, but with enough detail to make me doubt that it could be true.

Phew! Almost didn't find the last creek crossing -- the rain has been plentiful lately. Then a bit of triangulating before the geokiddies managed to find the cache -- and, wow, it's a biggie!

One thing's for sure -- nobody will find this one by accident!

Left a new TB "Fly by Numbers" (TB2KVJZ), took beaten-up Luxembourg Geocoin (TBXDGH). Geokiddies swapped a few toys. TFTC!

TB Drop - Luxembourg Geocoin

16-May-09
Geokiddies managed to find it and swapped out some toys. Even put in a relic from the nearby sportsground.

Good spot -- far enough away so as not to attract attention, easy to get to. TFTC!

10-May-09
Phew! Thanks to an offline hint from Hunter/Finder, we managed to find this cache on the 3rd try. Not exactly obvious, and required some climbing from one of our team!

09-May-09
Found the amphitheatre, went through the magic portal, did some bush-bashing and found the cache.

It wasn't actually that simple. We did a couple of circumnavigations of the park first, because the 'path' isn't that obvious. Fortunately, the co-ordinates were accurate.

Geokiddies took some pens. We left a few toys (sorry, not quite the cache theme!) and dropped a Coin. TFTC!

02-May-09
Found it while out walking with the Geokiddies - looks like it was a busy weekend for these new caches!

Nicely hidden, but my co-ords were more like E 151 10.427.

Left a Mickey Mouse and a Virgin Blue headphone. Grabbed a famous NorthOfTheSouth torch to move around. Couldn't see any trackables. TFTC!

Thanks for the encrypted clue -- it helped a lot, especially since we were searching the wrong rock!

The geokiddies grabbed some of the high-quality stuff (carabina and the do-everything compass), so we left a heap of goodies, including a new TB. TFTC!

30-Apr-09
My GPSr batteries died, but managed to find this one thanks to the picture from sevabo. Found it in the 2nd most likely place.

Managed to find this without a GPSr thanks to Google Maps. The cache was too tight to open, perhaps due to the unseasonably cold weather.

04-Apr-09
Oh Lordy, Lordy!

I approached this one from the top, beating through bushes with GPSr in hand. It's not as strenuous that way but, boy -- bring a big stick to get through those spiders!

In the end, I realised that it would have been much easier (and quicker!) to take the direct route, even with its "final climb" at the end. Phew, was I glad to find that cache!

Left a set of headphones, compliments of Virgin Blue. TFTC

This cache reminded me of many years ago when I had stayed at the Forresters Beach Resort, located right next to GZ. A fine trip down memory lane!

An easy find, but the logbook is totally sodden and I think some entries have been lost. Oh, and bring a stick to fight through the spiders! (You can then use it to hunt for the cache, too!)

28-Mar-09
2nd time lucky. Such an obvious spot I wonder why I didn't look there before!

Geokids took a keyring, put in a small torch and some dice. TFTC!

23-Mar-09
Found it, but only with help from The Exmoor Trampers. It does need a bit of searching, not visible just by standing around. SLTNLN TFTC!

22-Mar-09
Found it on the way to the Art Gallery from the Domain Carpark. No pencil, and the log is a little worse for wear as kiwieric mentioned.

There seemed to be a guy sleeping under a blanket nearby (1pm Sunday!), but otherwise no muggle activity.
