Logs for mainepod
04-Dec-21
Didn't find it initially because I wasn't willing to prostrate myself to look carefully, but the delectable Mrs. Mainepod had no such reservations and came up with it!
11-Dec-20
We're covid refugees in MIQ at the Novotel, and the walking loop goes right past Jean Batten. Otherwise impossible to get up close and personal, as she is fenced in.
23-Jan-20
Cache is in good shape and easy to find. Just watch out for nettles! TNLN TFTC
Contents of cache are a bit damp, but otherwise intact. TNLN TFTC
13-Dec-19
Wonderful landmark for a cache; found the contents a bit damp while hiking with the Geraldine Tramping Club.
30-Mar-18
Back again after nearly a 12 month absence, Ms. Mainepod spied the cache first thing! Don't know how I missed it first, second, and third times. TNLN TFTC
13-Dec-17
A spot that time forgot, surrounded by industry and farmland. The oldest gravestone I read dates back to 1901 (others are quite recent). The church is obviously long abandoned, but just imagine the baptism, marriage and funeral services that took place over the years! Coordinates for the cache seem to be off by about 15 meters, but the clues will set you right.

Found it right quick on the second try. Container was not closed securely, and contents are very damp. Could use a bit of rehab. TFTC

My compliments on a professional-grade cache! Forest Hills Reserve is a real gem, and this cache is in the same class. TFTC

06-Dec-16
I've been volunteering with the reforestation project on Bushy Point, and finally took the time to find this cache. That is one teeny-tiny log book! TFTC
05-Dec-16
On a beautiful day such as this, I decided foraging through dune grass was not for me! Maybe next time...
As a temporary resident of Invercargill, I was interested in the story behind the pond and the dam, enough to do a little research at the library today. Incredible scenes in 1984. Let's hope the floodplain scheme works when the rains come again! No telling where the cache will end up...TFTC

GPS had me barking up the wrong tree. Finally found cache ~5m south of coordinates. TFTC
Lovely place in the park on a splendid early summer day! Nice hiding spot. TFTC
01-Dec-16
Zeroed out my GPS, but no joy. Very dense ground cover. Maybe try another time - it's a great place to explore!
30-Nov-16
24-Nov-16
GPS gave me a broad search area (on both sides of the path), so no joy. Will have to try again sometime...
22-Nov-16
Very impressive cache! My compliments to the builder and installer. A beautiful area to explore and enjoy. TFTC
17-Nov-16
First find for Mainepod in the Invercargill area. More to come! TFTC.

15-Nov-08
Couldn't find satellites on the way up, so managed to get it on the way back down. TNLN. TFTC.
What a brutal hike, and a fantastic view! Introduced a hiking party of muggles to geocaching - may be new converts! Left rare NZ coin, and took snotty nose TB. TFTC!
02-Nov-08
A muddy and slick track after last night's rain, but the view at the top was well worth the climb! TNLN. TFTC!
26-Oct-08
This would be the picnic spot from hell - dark, damp & buggy! The bush loop could use some gorse trimming, but it is a nice walk otherwise. Sporadic satellite signals added to the challenge! Left rare, historic NZ coin, took nothing. TFTC!
06-Sep-08
Found it without too much difficulty, though it was hard to reach! Signed log, and enjoyed the views. TFTC!
06-Jul-08
Beautiful day for a hike after all the rain, which made the sluiceway and stream perform nicely. Found the cache to be very wet, although the log book was in decent shape. A more water tight container would improve things. Took nothing, left a coin. TFTC!
19-Jun-08
Searched around a bit before muggles joined us, and I had to suspend the effort. I'll likely be back to this wonderful spot to try again!
09-Jun-08
Couldn't maintain satellite contact long enough to narrow down the search area. I'll have to try again sometime!
21-May-08
Third try's a charm! Searching for this geocache seems a bit indecent for the poor critter; like I should be wearing a rubber glove and asking it to turn its head and cough. No wonder it took a while to find...
Nicely hidden, and well-clued. Took a 500 lira coin and left a discontinued NZ denomination. TFTC!
18-May-08
Tough climb to the top, but most satisfying to make it! Once the mountain is pest proof, we'll enlist kiwi birds to help with the hike. Took nothing, left a rare coin Thanks for the cache!

Didn't check the hint or the logs before this tramp, which would certainly have led to a find. I also didn't look long, because the rest of the "pod" wanted to return before the rain arrived! The joy of this trip was the trip itself! Hope to return next summer! mama mainepod
This was a very quick find, as we were trying to get back from Cathedral Cove ahead of the rain. In fact, mama mainepod found it and signed the log so quickly and discretely that the rest of the pod didn't even notice her little detour from the lookout! Really nice spot! TNLN, TFTC!
