Logs for peedieduchess

I've discovered a new caching strategy: just sit on a bench and wait till a 6 yr old relative fetches the cache for you to sign!

No trouble spotting the cache once I worked out which set of stairs to use. I removed the plasticised train ticket because it is difficult to write on and takes up all the space. Have left some paper.

Nice easy find with the clue,

Had worked out what to look for, but couldn't search due to lots of boat trailers parked right on top of the GZ.

I've seen lots of these, so knew what to look for, but still managed to waste a few minutes looking too far from the path.

Found easily, taking advantage of the hint, but had a bit of a wait for a gap in the stream of bridge walkers before it could be returned.

I have taken the Mount McKinley geocoin but can't log it properly tilI l get a better Internet link. It is NOT missing. It is not in the inventory for this cache.

update: It seems to be an unregistered geocoin. So thanks whoever left it for me to find.

I had an important mission to complete: bring a trackable from Scotland to Australia for a fellow geocacher. So today Sir Peedieduke wanted to walk on the bridge and this was on the way and seemed of a suitable size. Cache was easy to find but we had to wait ages for muggles to pass on.
Taken geocoin, left a Scotland Remembers wrist band.

A short diversion from the queue to enter the zoo, but luckily Sir Peedieduke was with me because I'd never have reached it.

Sneaky! After failing to figure this out, a visit to Sydney Harbour Bridge helped to work out what to do. Even then the cache was not where the map suggests but luckily Sir Peedieduke was on top form and located it about 15m opposite.

We've certainly 'done' this bridge pretty thoroughly, as we see it from our hotel room window, we drove over it this morning on a coach tour to the Blue Mountains, sailed under it on a boat this afternoon, and now walking over it! As for my most impressive sight: well the opera house features highly but even more is the busyness and variety of the crafts making their way around the harbour. So have a photo and thanks for the virtual

My GPSr arrow was jumping about a bit here, but geosense prevailed and the log book signed. Interesting container!

Thanks for a most interesting earthcache, and I probably wouldn't have found this very nice tribute to the early settlers were it not for geoacaching.
I will send in my answers once I return to Scotland next week.

added 2nd Dec: answers sent to the COs, after a bit of a panic as I couldn't find my notes. Of course I blamed Sir Peedieduke, who denied it, and commented how can you expect a scrap of paper to not be lost on a 10,000 mile journey.....but it wasn't!

Now to find my photos....

What an amazing detailed description! I'm craving the CO's indulgence, because I'll not be able to do the necessary homework till I return to .Scotland next week, so please bear with me. I do have a couple of photos though 'on account'

My first find in Sydney! We had a superb time walking around the area, and also watched the cruise liner 'voyager of the seas' leaving port. It must have been the one that the previous logger was on? What a noise the hooter made!
Anyway, I have of course chosen Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, because I'm from Edinburgh where he is well known. My favourite work is the Hound of the Baskerville.

Added 1st December, after returning to Scotland:

This was another lovely visit to a brilliant place with lovely wild flowers. It was here I finally saw some wild kangaroos!
Answers now sent off to the CO, and here are some of my hundreds of photos.

Wonderful walk around the canyon and the Garden of
Eden, will send answers once I feel returned to Scotland next week,

More added 1st December:

As above , a wonderful walk, which I'm quite proud of doing. Our guide from AAT King's Tours had emphasised how strenuous this walk would be, and not to do it if you have any mobility or cardiorespiratory issues. It's a 3 to 4 hour walk which he intended to do in 3! An easier walk was on offer as an alternative. I have asthma, but well controlled, and discussed with the guide before setting off. He also checked our rucsacs to make sure each person was carrying 3 litres of water. ( and believe me that is necessary: I drank all of mine!) Indeed the effort was well worth it, the view spectacular, the geological record is extraordinary, and the descent to the Garden of Eden very special indeed. And let's not forget Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, which was filmed here! I can't believe the actors did this in high heels...

Star earthcache!

I had a very definite advantage when visiting this area on a tour from Ayer's Rock Resort: it turned out that our guide is a qualified geologist! He must have been surprised about how many questions I asked. This is certainly a very beautiful place, and I was surprised to find so much water here.

3 months of requests for maintenance, so probably should be archived or adopted out?

Well....I have only a few hours in Alice Springs so only time for one geocache to mark the occasion. I saw this one was near our accommodation so it seemed suitable. I wish I'd read the logs first! As others have said, there is only the magnet there and no container.
I see that others have also requested maintenance to no avail, so perhaps it should be archived to save disappointing anyone else

This was of great interest to my muggle husband as he served as a medic with the British Antarctic survey in 1972 and knows something about Mawson. Finally, an earthcache he appreciated!
So did I, and the CO has granted me permission to log.
Very good one, should have a favourite point.

What a weird thing is this ancient tree fossil, and how amazing to realise how long it's been on earth.
Excellent earthcache, Its a super one to find in the city.
The CO marked my work as 50% .....pretty poor, so I'm off to read it up some more.

Day 2 of our visit to Australia, and it was packed with interesting visits, including a visit to admire the statue of Colonel Light.
I spotted something unusual immediately, and had the cache in hand in seconds. I wonder if permission was required for this elaborate hiding place? Certainly deserves a favourite point for ingenuity. I only saw 2 trackables inside despite the extensive inventory and took both; and dropped off Solluna.

Well this was my 2nd cache find in Australia, and also the 2nd where I encountered other geocachers. However they were very different encounters. The first find was 'vegetables' where I met LisyB and Taz6 and we had a little chat and signed the log together. This time, Sir Peedieduke and I were standing at the GZ surveying the scene and trying to decide which of several hiding places to check first; the arrow on my device was jumping all over the place. Suddenly a young couple appeared and it was obvious they were geocachers! They zoomed in and started to search around, even down on hands and knees, apparently unaware they were being watched. What a good job we aren't muggles!
Anyhow, we left them to it, and came back later to sign the log when the coast was clear.

Well now, I'd only been in Australia a matter of hours and didn't really have caching on today's ToDo list, more interested in eating and sleeping; so after being collected at Adelaide airport by my aunt, uncle and cousin, we stopped off for a cuppa at a pavement cafe near here and my cousin wanted to know what geocaching was all about. So I noticed this one was just around the corner and took him to look for it. Oh dear, I said, we'll have to leave it for now, there's a couple of muggles at the GZ. No, wait, I think they may be geoacachers.....they were! So nice to meet you LizyB and Taz6 and for witnessing the signing of my first Ozzie log.
Of course a favourite point must be awarded!

I was intrigued by this one, as we have a unique, made-to-order piece of furniture made by Tim Stead, which we commissioned and watched him design at his borders workshop.
Sadly couldn't find the cache, and it was getting dark. Maybe another day.

17-Sep-13
Found the right spot, well I think so, and stood around in the pouring rain feeling a bit conspicuous, but had to go for my train, too many muggles around. Maybe next time I'm in London?
