Logs for Team Geo-Rangers

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Signed this revered cache on the knees and facing east towards the cache. Joined by other cachers from Pennsylvania, Washington State, and Nebraska. There has been a Congo Line of Cachers stopping here over the last week. Got two oldest in SD yesterday and Tarryall before the Mega in CO.

Thanks Kansas Stasher for this placement and GC31 logged almost ten years ago!
Too bad GC32 is archived. Sad

This was the reason for the diversion to Utah and an incredible hiking geocache. Came in from the west and parked where the snow blocked the road. Was about 3 miles away from the cache. Downloaded the Mtn Bike and continued down the road another mile. Since the road goes out of the way, then took the bike down a smaller side trail. When the terrain made it no longer passable, dropped the bike to continue another two plus miles by foot. Will upload waypoints when done logging so others can follow this route if up for the extra adventure!

Had two choices from there to get to Potters Pond, follow a game trail along a ridgeline or drop down into the valley immediately. Chose the first option in case of an encounter with unfriendly wild-life. It is always better to inhabit the high ground and be aware of the wind direction. Continued down the ridge and then crossed the stream on a fallen tree (log) to then hike the rest of the way to the cache site. It is placed about 50' from GZ but still in an obvious location. Took many pictures at GZ and along this incredible hike. Nice ammo can. Did surprise a large deer twice in the same area - on the way in and on the way out. It was grazing on the sweet grass in a high meadow along the ridge. The views are incredible from the ridgeline. Saw numerous flowers of all colors. Highly recommend this route.

The entire adventure and round trip took about 4.5 hours without incident. Consumed four large containers of fluid and was happy to devour a subway sandwich upon return to the geocaching utility vehicle via the mtn bike.

This is what makes geocaching so fun! Another month eliminated from the Jasmer challenge - only two more to go in the year 2000!

Life is what you make of it - so let's make it fun!

Lots of natural camo too hide it; an impossible hide to locate in the winter after a snow storm. Summer is a good time to cache our local mountains, so we did! The Geo-Rangerette made the discovery here. [^]

Another find for Team 500 + along THE mother of all power caching trails that resides on the CA and Nevada border for some April Fooling around, geocaching style. Team 500 + consists of [green]Team Geo-Rangers and Peasinapod [/green] with the trip goal of finding 500+ caches in a single calendar day. Two ardent cachers, one vehicle loaded down with provisions and TOTT, and the best intel planning that money can buy! Countless hours finding geocaches and the requisite exercise that goes with it (lifting swag laden ammo cans) has finally paid off! We started at exactly midnight and cached the trail all day long, finding 626 geocaches for a personal best. It proved to be a worthy physical and mental challenge to give it our all for 24 hours straight, realizing an average cache find every 2 minutes and 18 seconds. Also, no LPCs were attempted or harmed on this day! There was some collateral damage done to the 4WD Geocaching Utility Vehicle but Peas was prepared for that contingency, so it didn't really affect the daily outcome.

Other highlights of the day included awakening a bird at the old Natural Air Conditioning cache site, meeting Moose Mob on the trail and his bio-fueled SEMI loaded with large torpedo tube caches (we slipped in some signed log sheets when he wasn't looking), greeting geocachers from Big Bend, Oregon, Redding, California, and Dylans Gang in their cool looking red jeep (maybe it was white but just covered with trail dust?!).

We would like to thank the cache hiders for a wonderful challenge and the significant effort that went into executing a first class geocaching adventure! Four Thumbs, WAY UP!!!

We would also like to thank our wonderful wives for the approval of the kitchen passes and their encouragement to attempt to set an unofficial geocaching world record. Without their support, we would be otherwise spending our time mowing the lawn, trimming the hedges and working on tax returns like everyone else who doesn't geocache.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH; your cache is greatly appreciated! Big Grin

Have been here before and found Natural Air Conditioning, but that was many years ago. On the day prior while driving up to this area, was telling my partner, Peasinapod, about this place. We found this cache between midnight and 1AM. We entered the first room and spooked a bird that must have been extremely freaked out to see two large figures with headlights invade it's underground dwelling. It fluttered in front of us as we were blocking it's exit. After staring at the bird for several seconds, we turned around and left the bird to find the cache elsewhere. This was a memorable experience!

Found the cache remains on the ground. The container lid was intact but the rest had been shredded. Congratulations to whoever took out their frustration on a 12 year old's cache. That act of vandalism is akin to junior high behavior, and unfortunately, some people are stuck in that mental state ... Will talk to my son as to what to do about this development.

This historic marker is located at a railway museum that marks the spot of a town known briefly as "Pinacate."
In the early days, Pinacate was the base camp for area gold miners. Apparently some struck it rich but the gold didn't last as long as other more celebrated mines. Posting pictures of the historical marker and the little geo-rangers who flanked it! An authentic building is preserved behind the marker and originated from the miner's camp. Pictures of this are here too, including a geocacher who didn't make it!

Found this locomotive in a railway museum in Riverside County near Perris. The engine had a 'face-lift' to match a popular locomotive with the kids - Thomas! The little Geo-Rangers posed with GPS for the photo op!

Found these "Steel wheels" in a railway museum in Perris, CA. Not sure what the origin is for this one?! There are others here too to log (hint SoCal cachers)! Thanks for the cache!

WWII Medal Of Honor Winner US Marine Elbert L Kinser is honored here.

Here is his citation:

CITATION:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while acting as Leader of a Rifle Platoon, serving with Company I, Third Battalion, First Marines, First Marine Division, in action against Japanese forces on Okinawa Shima in the Ryukyu Chain, 4 May 1945. Taken under sudden, close attack by hostile troops entrenched on the reverse slope while moving up a strategic ridge along which his platoon was holding newly won positions, Sergeant Kinser engaged the enemy in a fierce hand grenade battle. Quick to act when a Japanese grenade landed in the immediate vicinity, Sergeant Kinser unhesitatingly threw himself on the deadly missile, absorbing the full charge of the shattering explosion in his own body and thereby protecting his men from serious injury and possible death. Stouthearted and indomitable, he had yielded his own chance of survival that his comrades might live to carry on the relentless battle against a fanatic enemy. His courage, cool decision and valiant spirit of self-sacrifice in the face of certain death sustained and enhanced the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.

/S/ HARRY S. TRUMAN

Not a civil war general (not too many in CA) but achieved a first in aviation in the 20th century:

Lt Gen Archie J Old performed the first round-the-world nonstop jet plane flight. Maj. Gen. Archie J. Old, Jr. (USAF) led a flight of three Boeing B-52 bombers around the world in 45 hours, 19 minutes (completed Jan. 18, 1957). Not of the same era, so just logging this as a historical note for others east of the Mississippi to enjoy.

The Geo-Ranger played golf at the nearby golf course honoring this aviation pioneer.

Checked with the cache owner before logging this find. This is the Lake Elsinore Storm's minor league facility which is a part of the San Diego Padres organization. The diamond is the name of the stadium and the storm plays in the California league. It is a beautiful stadium. Will upload pictures when the geo-rangers attend a game next baseball season. Thanks for the locationless reverse cache!

This is a cool cache to do, and one that I will add to with notes since you can only log it once! I work on rockets for a major aerospace company and was visiting one of the best suppliers (Orbital) in the world in Arizona today. They are located off of Price Rd in Chandler. Got permission from the guard and took pictures of a static missile outside used in high altitude and exo-atmospheric research for NASA. Also took pictures of static displayed rockets that are scaled models (except one). All are included for your viewing pleasure. Hope to have a picture to upload of a GMD fly out from FT-1 or 2 as well in the future! Thank you for a very thoughtful cache!
