Logs for Gertie Goes Bush
23-Dec-09
I can't see how to add my bit to the story and I want to so I can register this find, but I think what follows goes with either lokipagan or bristracker

So glad to see the USS Munsing geocoin was picked up so quickly. That will make the owner very happy. It was hard to know where to place it. Certainly not on the Gold Coast. Thanks very much.
Sickening, isn't it? It's positively indecent for one person to have so many FTFs. Anyway with this cache Gertie's Got Thirty! 30 finds. Yaaay! (little bush dance moves here). I particularly liked the old milking shed, and the horses beyond the creek. Soon after leaving the Skool, I came across a koala crossing the road. Unfortunately I think it was already sick with the dreaded Chlamydia which is terribly sad because they don't recover from it. Managed to get one good photo.

Found with bristracker this morning. Left some clips for a geocacher and a paint brush for use in camo work. Really good bush spot. Heard a dollar bird high up in the trees about 80 ft up. Then it flew off showing the two round white spots under the wings. TFTC.
This was an adventure in the near dark. Realised we hadn't taken the number of the coin and raced back to get it. Literally ran out of the park. We geocachers really need Daylight Saving here in SE Qld!

Found with bristracker just on dusk. Glad I had my boots on what with all the sticks and twigs. Love the smell of the scrub. Love the dogs who come up and say hello. SL and TFTC
Was right in my element here, both in the bush and back in time. Could almost hear the train whistle through the trees. Some very very old rusting wrecks - one was so old the headlamps were screwed to the bonnet. Got bristracker to take a photo. She'll have to down load or upload or whatever it is you do now. I still have the old Brownie Box camera I had in 1950.

This was a very satisfying find, the clue worked. Gave bristracker some goodies to put in the cache. TFTC.

Now no day is complete without a visit to some bush or environmental park such as this one. The bush is necessary for my mental health! TFTC.

[Found with bristracker. This was a lovely place. I particularly liked the cows on the property opposite the cache.] I thought the use of fake cow poo was a good covering for the hide.
Just realised Gertie had not logged her visit last weekend. She doesn't have a computer. She asked me to say she loved the little koala reserve and has not given up hope of seeing a koala here another time.
Happy to be caching in NSW for a change. Must remember to take my gardening gloves when I go a-caching in future. TFTC in this pretty town.

Found with friends on my best day's geocaching so far (and probably for a long time to come)
Ah this was the stuff! Gertie Girl was Glad to Get out in the real bush. Breathe the mountain air and feel her ears pop at top of Darlington Range. You Go Girl. Little old bridge was a real find. TFTC
Another successful find. Best part of the day was having a geodriver taking us to all the GZ sites instead of me having to try to read map and drive etc. I know I said I was a bush girl, but air conditioning and 4WD are very nice. TFTC.
This was typical kind of scrub country. You see trees up ahead, you can't see through them, then as you get closer they spread out and you see the trees have a lot of space between them. Easy to get lost if no significant landmarks. Really felt in the country with this one. TFTC.
Out today with geocaching friends. Good clean area to search. No nasties lurking anywhere. Easy find. TFTC
Forgot to log this one earlier. Would now like to find others in this series. TFTC.
Wow! Surprised to see how many geocachers had visited this one already. I'm patiently building up my numbers. This was another to add to the list today. TFTC
Thought maybe this could be the name of an early humanoid fossil??? Like Peking Man. No? Perhaps one day. Until then this is a pretty little country spot. TFTC
Forgot to log this one earlier. So many caches in one day it was a marathon. Wonder if it will ever be a recognised sport? TFTC
Getting on towards dark when found this one near end of great day finding 13 caches. I was pretty stoked by this stage. TFTC
Ah the bush keeps its secrets well hidden. But this one didn't stay hidden for long. The secret to success? Take along some geocaching friends and use their brains. TFTC
Well it certainly is prettier than Carhenge photos we've seen recently. Thanks for making our country drives so much more interesting now we can look for little lunchboxes under bushes, in trees, etc.
Wonderful to see the old tracks - so narrow - and listen for the faint whine of far off trains. Or was that the mosquitoes? Either way it was genuine bush so Gertie Got some Bush today. TFTC.

This is a lovely place. I wonder if people know that next door to the cache site they can walk through the mangroves using the boardwalk that runs along outside Fleay's nature reserve. So if you have half an hour or so and don't want to make a paying visit, you can walk easily along the walkway and see life in the mangroves. I used to work nearby and loved to go during lunch hour or after work. TFTC in such a peaceful place.
What a beaut hide! Found room to squeeze in a Track a Bear but now I've forgotten the number. I'm still new to this at only 5 finds. Anyway lucky person will know when they find it. Signed nice clean log and took Think Pink Breast Cancer enamel pin. Thanks for this one.
OK now I have the tracking number I can log that I deposited Ella's Baby Bear in this nice dry bush environment. If nobody comes to move the Bear along I will visit the cache again - it is not far from my home.

Couldn't see it. Spent about half an hour and took many readings. Never mind, it was a lovely spot to sit for half an hour, in the shade, with the sound of water lapping the sand. Will be happy to come back for another look.

Wanted to look at this one because bristracker and Aussie Liahona said it was not good. Gert went down - and in - boots and all, to see what was there. Gert has to report it's revolting. Do not advise anyone to go there, too dangerous. And this from Gert who will wrestle crocs with her bare hands. Well she would if they'd let her. Add Gertie Girl's voice to the calls for this one to be scrapped - it needs a major clean up and clean out. WARNING - Geocaching can be harmful to your health. And life.
Gertie couldn't find it, mainly because she relied on bristracker whose iPhone would not show the co-ordinates. Never mind, Gert has a box of compasses and will be back to make her own calculations. Did find a piece of archeological history, a strange horse-shoe, so trip was not without its surprises.
This was good until a black faced cuckoo shrike asked us to leave. While Gert was sitting on a log, a fine Weimaraner bitch came walking with her muggle owner. Quickly shoving cache under log (while the Weimaraner sniffed around it) Gert displayed her knowledge of ornithology to muggle (by identifying the bird) whereupon said bird flew in Gert's face!!! Poor mother bird must be thinking she's built her nest in Muggle Central. Had a good swap but it was too big. TNLN. SL
Tried to find this with bristracker. Found the birdlife on the pond much more interesting. Noisy face off between a heron and the head of a family of egrets, over rights to the fishing grounds.

Oops I logged on to the wrong cache. This one found early morning when no-one about. No silver or gold doubloons but what can you expect with pirates about? TFTC
