Logs for 1ST220

03-Apr-05
Nice up here on a warm and sunny April afternoon. Can almost see my house from here. Needed the clue to find the cache as there were a lot of people about, so I couldn't do too much searching for it. Some water in the container but I dried it out before returning it. Took alien watch (will get the battery replaced) and added a yellow plastic duck and a steel pencil sharpener.

Was off with my reading. Wandered around for a while before realising I was staring right at it! I live on the nearby street, so should have done this cache a long time ago...
Took nothing but added a pair of stainless steel spring egg cups.
Thanks Zork V

Nice walk through the bush. Especially liked all of the Nikau palms. JDHnz found the cache this time. TNLNSL

I was late meeting JDHnz and LRPnz at the cache, but was lucky enough to find it first Smile TNLNSL

Took some photos across the water to the city, with a couple of sailboats in the foreground. Nice spot on a very warm sunny day.

Another cache find to JDHnz before I could get started myself. (Was distracted by the mozzies - even though I had been warned)
Took nothing, left small orange superball. Thanks

Found it so quick JDHnz and LRPnz didn't even have time to read the cache notes hehe. Took little yellow duck and left new blank cassette tape. Thanks for the cache.

22-Oct-04
Great views from up there on a lovely warm day.
Took a little bit of searching before we found it. Dried out the cache becuase it was damp and removed some batteries that had gone bad because of the water. Added something to replace the batteries but I can't remember what it was Sad

The pencil wasn't that small LRPnz! I mean I could still write with it Very Happy
Found with LRPnz with some help from JDHnz

Found with LRPnz (while JDHnz looked on). Thanks for a great cache location

28-Mar-04
Cold wind blowing this afternoon. Found the cache quickly, quite a lot of stuff in it. Took nothing, left Travel Bug Georgy Gecko. Just a quick stop as I make my way north to the warm weather (I hope).

Called in on my way back north at the end of my holidays. Cold wind blowing sent me back to the car quickly. Snow has fallen on all of the ranges that you can see from this spot. TNLNSL

19-Mar-04
Another nice quiet spot, lake must be full I reckon. Found after about 10 minutes of scratching around. Took nothing, left Snow White pad.

16-Mar-04
Found it easily, coordinates ok now. Bridge hasn't been there for a long time by the look of those willow trees growing over the old supports. Took fuse wire left (cheap) tire pressure gauge.

15-Mar-04
Very wet in the forest even though there hasn't been any rain in the last couple of days. Got soaked trying to push through the under growth only to find I was in the wrong place. Was giving up when I found it a bit further up the track. Took sponge, left egg separator and plastic lizard.

Had to make two attempts before finding it. First time in the morning without reading any of the notes or hints but couldn't find it. Turns out I was about 30 meters out. Came back in afternoon after reading hints and found it straight away. Thanks Sallies for a great little walk. Took nothing left wooden key holder.

14-Mar-04
A great spot to get away from the crazy traffic on the road heading east after the wildfood festival. Lovely short walk to stretch the legs before the slow journey back east in all the traffic. Took key tag and left plastic gecko.

Didn't find it, had a quick look but gave up any real attempt because there are just so many people here today. Constant stream of traffic from the West Coast coming back from the wild food festival I suppose.

Another wonderful spot for a break from the craziness on the road. The traffic was slow, saw some young fool overtake a long line of cars and cause a three-car nose-to-tail accident as a result. Managed to get his license plate and call it in to the traffic hotline.
Very warm and sunny at this spot but is is also raining, weird! Took Kauri gum and left four large coloured dice.

13-Mar-04
Woohoo! Found all the clues and the answer led me straight to the final cache. Had a great time gathering all the clues, thanks for the great cache. Took insulation tape and left 3D puzzle.

A bit cooler today after a nice warm spell. Low cloud beinning to close in as I found the cache, still, a great view from the spot. Took nothing and left Albatross fridge magnet and green plastic snake.

11-Mar-04
Ouch, darn blackberry! On reading the log it seems I wasn't the only one to suffer Smile. Picked it up fairly easily once I managed to get through the prickles.
Took glider left coasters.

Beautiful March day, clear blue sky, sun warm on your back, cool breeze off the water. Magnificent views today, mountains are so clear! Another great cache, thanks!
Took little glass duck, left 6 cherry plum scented candles. Noticed the pen was leaking a little, would have replaced it but I didn't have one on me.

10-Mar-04
Nice park to rest in briefly on my continuing journey south. Had a bit of trouble finding it at first turns out I had misread the clue. Took nothing, left Hotwheels racing car that I found under the red platform

Its really hot today (national high of 35C in Kaikoura apparently). Interesting little spot, pity it isn't signposted, still I guess, a good place to have a cache so I can visit anyway. Took nothing left plastic cow.

Its so hot here! Turns out Kaikoura had national high of 35C today, no wonder I was sweating! Great place for a cache. Took smiley stress ball, left socket screwdriver

08-Mar-04
What a view and what a road! Georgy the Gecko thought it was a bit too rough for his liking. This is the sort of place that you would never normally go to but because of the cache I now know of a great lookout spot.
Took scraper left backgammon game

Beautiful warm sunny day. Spent a while there soaking up the sun (so did Georgy the Gecko). Had to go back to the car to use the clue before locating the cache. Took rubber ball, left Dolphins NZ fridge magnet.

07-Mar-04
Got to the area early evening. DOC has a sign up stating the facility is closed. Went in anyway, there has been some flood damage to the path. Got to waypoint but couldn't find the cache, even with the hints. May come back to this when I return north in a couple of weeks.

Called in on my journey south. Took a couple of attempts before finding it. Have taken Georgy the Gecko, left Saruman to keep an eye on things. Damn mosquitos had quite a feed of me!

06-Mar-04
Beautiful sunny day after the crappy weather we had all summer! Raupehu was a bit hazy though. Great way to take a break from driving. Took bandage left blank cassette tape.

Stopped to find cache as I make my way south. Found it quickly because of the clue. River is nothing like it was during last weeks storm.TNLN

03-Mar-04
What are flow forms? Oh now I see, cool! Took a while to find the right path to the flow forms, once there found the cache quickly only because of the clue. Cache a bit damp after all the rain, not too bad though. Took nothing, left plastic rhino.

Nice little area for a picnic. River in flood after the storms but cache still dry. My new GPSMap 60C got me to within a couple of metres. My mum helped me, it was her first geocache!
Took shot glass, left adjustable spanner and plastic snake

22-Feb-04
Nice little walk in the bush. Found the cache quickly JDHnz and LRPnz obviously weren't looking hard enough Big Grin. Beginners luck indeed! I reckon they needed my obvious talent for this sort of thing Razz

So much for my obvious talent Sad
(JDHnz, LRPnz & 1ST220) frustrated by our inability to get a stable fix on the 1st cache waypoint. Searched and searched but to no avail, will return...

13-Feb-04
