Logs for sisso

07-May-24
An unbelievably rough piece of coastline with a rich history of settlement, both Ngai Tahu and European, both my tipuna. An abundance of Kai and opportunity promoted settlement during the 1800s. Now only remnants and virtually uninhabited. What a fab little golf course this would be on a good day.

A quick dash from the car in the rain and found it quickly and then it took a little longer to retrieve for us vertically challenged ones. We made it work and were off on our journey

A quick find at the start of our walk to Slope Point. All good with the cache

Wonderful spot. No fur seals today. Have to say I tripped on the way up here and landed cast, similar to falling skiing with your head down the slope. Sisso 2 had to aid the recovery and cache was in hand. Log book full.

05-May-24
Found in the dusk light as we returned from the falls. All dry and secure with the cache but no TB in it. TFTC

04-May-24
A cache and dash at a stunning coastal/beach viewpoint. A cold sunny day typical of this area.

What a shame they are closed for the winter. Had heard this is a super place to poke around. Love the Lost Gypsy Book Exchange. Wet log stewing in its hidey spot.

A quick find as we set off to the Maria Falls. TFTC all good with the cache

A quick diversion on our afternoon waterfalls mission. Totally sodden, needs work. Lovely little walk and estuary view. Piwakawaka following us all the way

03-May-24
A quick find on a very windy afternoon. Stunning views! TFTC

02-May-24
It is always nice to learn new stuff about NZ trees, thanks for the info. After wading through the long grass to the tree we quickly had the cache in hand. All safe and secure.

Haha this was a treat and we did resort to the hint to finish the task. Cache is safe and dry TFTC

As stated it was a quick park and grab from us and then we kept going on our road trip. All good with the cache

A quick find with some beautiful views. All in order

Nice to stop and see the little Toll House on our journey South and to learn its history. Thanks

We pulled up to the beautiful beach which was a bit wild today and followed the geo trail to the snug little cache.

Cold and windy day but the view was still beautiful. Lid is a bit funny but overall cache is good.

A quick find and look at the river mouth.Log is nearly full and cap is broken but the cache is still hidden well

24-Apr-24
Our first find after a few years out. It was nice to feel the thrill of a find again. Onto the next one!

We thought this one was gone as the sign clearly is, however a quick search of the area had it in hand. Yay

Disappointed we couldnt find it particularly as previous people had logged it as an easy find

Nice quick find and a beautiful view as kayakers paddled past

Missed this on the way so came back to find it in good order

Found quickly even though it was in a slightly different position than the hint stated. Returned it where we found it.

We walked straight past this one and had to backtrack but it was only because we were enjoying the walk on the lakes edge so much. Found and signed

02-Oct-20
Nice to be visiting our kids and their new house. Popped down to Opunake with the dogs.

09-Sep-20
Finally a find. Great stop for a cuppa as well

Looked with my eyes and it was quickly in hand. Not so small and very wet log. Love the boathouse across the road.

After some wedges and a beer at the pub, time to crack on with the next wonders of the World Series.

Another sad face despite following clue and precious logs

Nope. Not in the middle of the road, read the hint and there she was

Bummer. Not all was lost as got beer and wedges and visited the Opo statue

Wonderful spot. I can imagine a happy preacher delivering sermons here. Beautiful spring flowers, birds singing and cows lowing. Dropped some TB’s for ‘beachside views’ and moving on post lockdowns.

Thought we’d try for one more and say hi to Tane Mahuta from a distance on the way home to Waipoua Lodge. Beautiful big cache and a TB to pick up. Pic from a previous visit honouring the big guy.

This roost has seen better days. Did it standing and quickly found the little guy.
Where now, back to the pub for a feed or take our picnic further on to the boulders, hmmm. TFTC.

23-Aug-20
Just on dark coming home from our beach. No worries. A beauty sliver of a moon tonight

Aha. Really dark now and saw three possums on the way here from the last crossroad! Was expecting trolls but that thought had us in the wrong place. TFTC.

21-Aug-20
Lovely vantage of the forest. Met a friend from Ruakaka for lunch in Dargy so a sunny afternoon to grab another souvenir on our way home. Picked up one TB and dropped 3 x TB’s.

14-Aug-20
Our first time caching since we were holidaying in Queenstown in Jan-Feb. Since then we bought a new home and business, Covid hit and our business went from hero to zero with lockdown. We have a new grand daughter who was due today but luckily came ten days early, our oldest son gets his first house today and a new baby on the way there. And today we are awaiting news of potentially another lockdown after NZ had 102 days Covid free and we’d forgotten what it was like, while our Melbourne family is in the midst of our life 3 months ago.
Only thing to do is have a geocache while we await a full on week of cancellations and get ready in case we have to isolate at home yet again.
A wonderful cache to restart our searches.

Another nice little stop with the sound of running water from the creek. Started looking on the wrong side but quickly had it in hand when we got that bit right. Couldn’t quite fit a TB in there as all is dry and cosy.

Found in its safe space but lid is cracked so cache is very wet. We tipped the water out and tried to dry it a bit. Log is water logged and hard to write on, maybe needs a replacement container and log.

Nice easy find. Some beautiful daffodils on the side of the road.

07-Feb-20
The smaller Sisso was sent in for this one and soon had it in hand. All is good and safe

Not stumped, survived the high water level after the rains. All good

06-Feb-20
Nice to get a little ghostie! We took a road on the wrong side of the bridge, oops!
How high the lake is today and see jet boats coming close to entertain the tourists. So much going on. TFTC

Made a stop on the way up when we picked up a Japanese hitch hiker who came up to Lake Alta with us. Stop on the way down gave us time to look and there it was down low.

No worries here except for the many tourists.

Gorgeous wee church. Nice easy find.

Plenty of planes to spot on a blustery day.

Fantastic spot to stop after walking up to Lake Alta. All in order with new casing.
