Find 244 for the tribe

Heading south after a trip to the zoo with the tribe. This cache was an excellent excuse for a rest break after the Sydney traffic.

Don't think the tribe has ever been to this lookout before but we will be heading back again! One of the best lookouts on the escarpment in my opinion. The rotary platform ensures spectacular tree free 180 degree views. Bizarre disused cafe building nearby! Will it ever operate again?

Cache and log in great condition despite the recent heavy rain. SL and replaced as found.

Thanks for placing and maintaining another of these retro caches, Rats

Find 243 for the tribe.

Out getting the waterfall locations from the 'Pretty as a picture' adventure lab this morning after the recent heavy downpours / nsw floods. Boy are the waterfalls pumping! Off to the deserted bald hill lookout which was quite peaceful in the rain today. Gathered some info for the multis then travelled north on this path for a bit. A lovely path! Will come back and explore it properly another day.

The old tank had a good bit of water in it which made some cool noises when more water dripped into it. Agree with the previous finders - cache is on the west side now! Perhaps it was on the north at some point in it's life. Damp log unsignable. Emptied fluid out of the cache.

What I did find on the north side was this impressive slug, see pic. Far more impressive than the leech I pulled off my leg later in the day!

Thanks for the cache!

Find 241 for the tribe.

Out getting the waterfall locations from the 'Pretty as a picture' adventure lab this morning after the recent heavy downpours / nsw floods. Boy are the waterfalls pumping! This was not far off the track so made the detour and parked near the bus stops.

Cache was an easy find. Log dampish but still signable.

Impressive temple. Theres a lot of effort gone into that. Might have had a look inside but wasn't taking my boots off and leaving them outside in the rain today! Thanks for the cache!

Find 237 for the tribe.

A quick stop for a toilet break for the geokids and the geodog gave me the oppurtunity to hunt for this one and it's neighbour this afternoon.

After a brief hunt and reading a couple of logs the cache was located in good order and condition. Glad there was no need to hunt through any rubbish. Who knows what is in there.

Signed the lovely fresh logbook and replaced as found.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache. Stop, cache, revive, survive!

Find 238 for the tribe.

A quick stop for a toilet break for the geokids and the geodog gave me the oppurtunity to hunt for this one and it's neighbour this afternoon.

After a brief hunt the cache was located in good order and condition. Glad it was an easy find as there was a chill to the air, spiky bushes and the occasional car passing, thankfully not on this side of the roundabout.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache. Stop, cache, revive, survive!

Find 235 for the tribe.

Out caching in the area and this one looked quite doable on the way home. Parked near the very nice golf course nearby which I once scored a round of 72 at - for 9 holes! Short walk to GZ. Took about 5 to 10 minutes but eventually found it.

Cache has come apart slightly but doesn't seem to have been a problem in terms of water damage or anything like that. Signed log and replaced as found.

Best guard style cache the tribe has found yet! Thanks for the cache!

Find 234 for the tribe.

In the area collecting a purchase from marketplace and so of course checked which caches were nearby. This one looked good and I was not disappointed!

Parked in the closest side street and made my way up the hill to GZ. Spectacular 360 degree views. I can remember when Harcourt Hill was the #1 new estate in the area but doubt I've ever been up it until today.

Terrain rating was entirely appropriate! I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Signed log as BAT and replaced as found.

Thanks for the cache!

Find 233 for the tribe.

Parked in the proposed area and made my way across to GZ. A sneaky hide for a TB hotel which I found but not before finding a baby brown snake. The third snake of our caching career.

There were meant to be two trackables in here but alas nothing.

I did drop off Rodriguez here though. Rodriguez the Panda Bear, the first Panda Bear I have met called Rodriguez. Have fun little buddy.

TFTC DSD. I think our first DSD cache but I somehow think it will not be the last!

10-Mar-21
It's probably still possible to get to this one but there was nowhere to park close by and quite a few fences up with all the roadwork in the area so we left this one for another day.

Find 232 for the tribe.

Out caching with the geokid this morning and this one was as it turned out our last one of the day. A nice section of bushland that we would normally have no business being anywhere near. I spent a while looking around in the VERY long grass. Geokid spots it without really even trying. It's amazing how often this happens.

It could do with a small sistema container or even a mint tin if you are heading out this way. Some nice swaps still left in the plastic bags for the next finder.

The muggles across the fence were eyeing us off (see pic) but for once I didn't feel the need to be stealthy while being watched.

Thanks for the cache!

Find 231 for the tribe.

Another Jet cemetry cache! This one was a sneaky hide which took us a bit of time to find while still attempting to be stealthy. Clue was very helpful as were some previous logs. Cache was eventually found in excellent condition with plenty of space for future finders on the log.

To the west of GZ along the fence line there are some really cool plants that flower all year long providing bees with food all year round. Worth checking out while you are here.

Find 230 for the tribe.

I think this was the first puzzle we solved, first of the series at least but it has taken us a while to get to GZ. Out caching with the geokid this morning. Parked in a nearby residential street and we made our way to GZ, found the cache without too much trouble, signed and replaced as found.

Cache in excellent condition with plenty of room in the log for future finders.

Thanks again to the rats for placing and maintaining this geoart.

Find 228 for the tribe and find 8 out of 9 different cache types in the Illawarra today.

After visiting "We Love the Gong" we headed South and descended Mt Kiera stopping for a short bushwalk and this retro puzzle cache. We parked near the scout camp and walked down a lovely section of the ring track which was nicely shaded this afternoon. Found the cache after a brief search. The geokids loved swapping a couple of things out - plenty of swag in this cache.

The books really were in terrible condition (mouldy/stuck together/unreadable) so in the spirit of today's earlier CITO I removed them from the cache. Dropped off the Lego Love Boat which has already moved on by the time I am writing my log!

If future finders want to bring a book to drop off, may we suggest placing it in a big ziplock bag to prevent any moisture damage to the book. There are now no books in the cache so if you bring some it will be initially to drop off only.

Find 222 for the tribe and find 2/9 of 9 different cache types for us today

After being reassured by the CO's check on the cache I made another hunt for this one this morning without the geokids and made a swift find this time in under a minute. How could I have missed it last time, even with the geokids? Always easier in hindsight!

Another amazing historical spot on the escarpment.

Thanks Kembla for checking on this one for us. TFTC from the tribe.

The first event the tribe has been able to make it to. Lovely to meet some of the other local cachers and put some faces to names. There wasn't much rubbish but we did pull a brick and a coathanger out of the nearby creek that didn't belong there.

Thanks to Steeba for organising this one. Thanks to all who attended for welcoming us newbies. Looking forward to attending more events and CITOs in the future.

Find 221 for the tribe.

Having done the required visit at waypoint two earlier started the day early with a trip to waypoint one where the required information was quickly sourced.

It's quite the memorial at waypoint one. Well worth stopping and visiting. That wagon was in continuous use for a long time! And worth pausing to remember the disaster and the fatalities. It must have been devastating for the local community to have so many boys and men gone in an instant.

Waypoint two is similarly impressive. For a non-miner it was quite interesting to be able to explore the coal up close.

Lovely to meet the CO later in the day who approved our answers. Another well earned FP for the Rats.

Find 223 for the tribe and find 3/9 of 9 different cache types for us today

We'd attempted to get this one from the Scout Camp carpark before which was a big mistake. No way I was scaling that hill with two geokids! Best spot to park is near the dumpsters on the way in. Then at the hairpin bend which crosses the little creek take the side track up the hill past the locked gate and you will find a much easier path to GZ. Massive mossy log nearby is worth a look on the way in.

Although everything is a probably a lot more overgrown now than it was in 2007 followed the clues and my caching instincts and was rewarded with the find. A nice little offset multi cache that should probably be visited more often than it is.

Thanks for the history lesson! Never knew there was a Ring family, but have great respect for the scouting movement and others similar to it and the history of scouting in this area. That scout camp has been around a long time and a dear friend of ours used to be heavily involved with the camp before he passed away a year or two back.

Picked up Rodriguez the Panda Bear (First Panda Bear I've met called Rodriguez!) to move him along.

TFTC!

Find 226 for the tribe and find 6 out of 9 different cache types in the Illawarra today

The Visitors Centre closes at 3pm on Sundays these days so after lunch with some friends we made the mad dash and arrived with just enough time to find the cache and do some artwork. The geokids drew their best impression of the view which we apologise for not including in our log.

A stunning spot which also has a "Lookout Wollongong" adventure lab cache which we claimed while visiting. The Illawarra really is a beautiful part of the world.

Picked up some "We Love the Gong" stickers from the shop and picked up the "Lego Love Boat" trackable from the cache to move on.

Thanks to the Rats for another wonderful cache.

Find 218 for the tribe

Out for a cycle this morning with the geokid starting from the power station and this was en route. An easy park and grab. This one could really do with a new container. No lid and a big hole in the bottom! We might replace it next time we are out this way.

Geokid enjoyed swapping out a glow in the dark star for some sunnies.

Enjoying this series, plenty of ways to be dead meat! TFTC!

Find 217 for the tribe

Thoroughly enjoyed solving this puzzle! The bookworm bit had me stumped for quite a while but I put my head together with some other cachers and finally it all fell into place and the checker agreed. Logical!

This morning at 7am I thought there would be no muggles about but there were still two of them moving at high speed past GZ after I had found the cache! Cache is located in an area where I've never been before but it is a lovely little pocket of the world.

This one was placed on the starting date of the Beijing Olympics if my memory serves me correctly. It has done well to survive this long in really good condition with the original logbook still in place! A few spiders on the outside to watch out for but you can expect that given it hasn't been found for six months.

Thanks for the puzzle and the hide Gribbly!

Find 219 for the tribe.

We really don't know much about electricity but managed to solve this one with some help from the search engine to work out what means what and finally the checker agreed.

The seal on the cache was completely hard and fell to pieces when we opened the cache. Thus the logbook had a little too much mositure. Still signable though. Could do with a bit of maintenance.

A lovely spot to visit. This section of the lake is a hidden gem in my book. So quiet, peaceful and relatively uninhabited. We enjoyed a nice bike ride after making the find.

A totally appropriately themed cache for the location! Thanks from the tribe!

28-Feb-21
Find 214 for the tribe.

Out completing part of the SLSC adventure lab at windang beach this afternoon. It's been fun to visit some other beaches besides the usual suspects and windang was great! Not too busy, easy to park close by to the beach too.

This one was en route to windang beach so we made a stop around the corner and made an easy walk to GZ.

Cache found swiftly near a really nice sculpture (see pic) which commemorates both the aboriginal and european history of the area.

Cache in good condition with plenty of room for future finders.

Thanks for the cache, National Steel!

21-Feb-21
Find 210 for the tribe.

You might think that Sunday morning would be a good time to approach this one for low muggle levels but due to the kid friendly activities available at a business nearby there were still plenty of muggles out and about. Once they had dispersed a quick find was made. Log and Bebe Ammo Can both in excellent condition. Left the 15 cents in the cache for the next lot of geokids to find.

Thanks for hiding the Bebe Ammo Can for us to find.

Find 208 for the tribe.

Out enjoying one of the last summers mornings with the entire tribe and Geodog. We parked in behind the car dealerships and went through a walkway to the path and through to GZ.

Spent far too long battling lantana and the bountiful mosquitoes then changed the search area slightly and the cache was quickly located. No need to cross into the rail corridor through the hole in the fence.

Cache is in good condition. Log was a little damp but very much still signable with plenty of room for the next finder.

Walked on further down the rivulet to a kids playground where the geokid swung so much on the monkey bars inducing blisters on both hands! A lovely stretch of riverbank with plenty of spots for a picnic.

TFTC Wilbert.

Find 208 for the tribe.

Out caching with the entire tribe including geodog this morning enjoying some summer weather. A lovely day for a walk.

Had this one solved and was in the area. Made a quick find at GZ thanks to good coordinates and the hint from solving the puzzle. A ton of mozzies out today! Cache in great condition with plenty of room in the log for future finders.

Another of the SES puzzle series found, thanks go to the Rats for placing and maintaining this geoart.

Find 202 for the tribe.

I scoped this one out a week or two ago but couldn't attempt it then due to a lack of time (and willingness). Out for a swim at the continental pool which is just lovely at this time of year this morning. So came prepared this time and with a bit of searching the cache was in hand. It was indeed within arm's reach, just! Cache in good condition. Signed the fresh logbook and replaced as found.

A really nice cache, thanks for placing and maintaining it. I'd give it another favourite point if I could but I'm all out of them!

Find 204 for the tribe

Out doing what we love this Valentine's day! Having solved this one a while ago the whole tribe including geodog went for a pleasant walk to GZ.

Cache was located by geowife in excellent condition, right where the checker said, with plenty of space on the log for future finders.

Thanks to The Rats for placing and maintaining this Geo Art.

Find 203 for the tribe.

Out doing what we love this valentines day! We brought geodog to this dog park which we had never visited before and wouldn't have known about apart from Geocaching. We took geodog for a walk around the hill and there are views in every direction. Not many dogs to speak of though today.

Cache was located after negotiating a ton of weeds nearby, being guarded by a small lizard. Excellent collection of swag in the cache which the geokids enjoyed playing swaps with.

We dropped off Pierre the Primate (trackable) for his next adventure here who is a trackable who has achieved everything he set out to do - baguettes under the Eiffel tower!

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache and for introducing us to this dog area.

Find number 200 for the tribe.

The weather was miserable so what better thing to do than geocache in a disused railway tunnel for our 200th find?

A visit to a local hardware store saw the tribe pick up a number of head torches at the bargain price of $4.95 for each, which were absolutely necessary for the days adventures.

We brought geonanna along with the whole tribe today. Started from Otford station and made our way to the north end of the tunnel. The map type provided when you are a premium member showed us some useful trails which weren't on the standard maps.

Once undercover the torches were put to good use. There is a watercourse in the tunnel which makes a nice trickling noise but also makes things muddy at times, but nothing that the geokids couldn't negotiate with gumboots. There are some old wires, glass and some other relics in the tunnel to be aware of if you are taking geokids in.

A couple of muggles down in the tunnel today which was a bit creepy initially but they turned out to be friendly. Some were taking some wicked time lapse images with sparklers and a tripod which was cool.

The dark side of the moon was missed by geodad but located by geokid. Pretty cool spot. The cache was missed by everyone but finally found by geodad. Hint was useful. Container has seen better days but is still functional. Nice to read some retro logs. Swapped in a little book for the next geokid.

On the way out geowife managed to get a leech which we located a few hours later in her shoe.

All in all one of our best caches ever and the perfect one for a day like today. This is why we love geocaching. Takes you to places you would otherwise never go to!

Thanks for the hide Team Chaos, if you're still out there! Another favourite point coming your way.

Find 201 for the tribe.

Out on a rainy day to get the nearby Dark Side of the Moon retro cache and this was in the parking lot at the station so it was too close to turn down.

Cache was quickly located at GZ thanks to excellent coordinates and a hint which you probably don't need to look at to work out where it might be.

Photo is of the dark side of the moon which is nearby and is an absolutely mandatory cache to visit if you've never done so.

Thanks for the cache! Our first side tracked cache. By the look of it these are quite a big deal, with heaps and heaps of them hidden all over the world.

10-Feb-21
Find 198 for the tribe.

It was a lovely day for a bike ride so the little geokid and I parked at Kanahooka park and cycled across to this one. This really is a little used section of the path but is quite beautiful and relaxing to hear the waves lapping against the shore while you cycle.

Unfortunately the scourge that is lantana is colonising near where the cache is. We demolished a bit of it on the way to the cache but it really is a pest of a weed.

Apart from that the cache is in good condition but could do with a new log sheet. We traded some swaps. Hid the cache with a little more camo than before as it was pretty exposed the way it was.

A lovely cycle back to the park and another one of the LIPT now completed.

Thanks mini rats for the cache!

Find 197 for the tribe.

Out doing some work in the area today and some space opened up between one meeting and another - perfect for collecting a couple of caches.

After avenging a DNF at the cemetery I headed for this one and parked across from Vikings Rugby Union club. It was a pleasant walk along the bike path to GZ - some lovely fig trees and other trees on the walk over that you don't notice so much when driving.

A quick and easy find. The cache and log are in excellent conditon. Replaced as found and enjoyed another nice walk back to the geomobile.

Thanks for the cache!

Find 196 for the tribe.

Out doing some work in the area today and some space opened up between one meeting and another - perfect for collecting a couple of caches.

Always like looking for these cemetery caches, good to reflect on things for a few minutes now and then.

Had a go at this one a couple of months ago but couldn't come up with the find that day. Today it was a quick find. Makes me wonder how I missed it first time! Cache and log are in excellent condition. Signed and replaced as found.

Well done on a nifty little hide, enjoyed this one. Great to come back and avenge a DNF. Thanks for the cache!

07-Feb-21
We are looking forward to this CITO and to meeting some other local geocachers. It will be our first event! Thanks for hosting.

06-Feb-21
Had a look after the recent DNF.
The cache had been muggled but it has now been replaced. We've added some camouflage so this doesn't happen again so easily, please replace exactly as found.

30-Jan-21
Find 192 for the tribe.

Out caching with the geokids this arvo and we were out to avenge the DNF that we previously logged at this cache.

With our previous attempt at least we knew where the best parking was - near the giant skip bin on the East side of the cache. We parked on the west side last time - not only is there no proper parking there, but you also have to cross the lovely creek in the picture and negotiate a terrain 4 slope. Check out the creek by all means but access it from the East side - far easier.

Had a look where the hint said and was about to give up after checking multiple spots, finding a deer skull and listening to some 'can we skip this one' but then widened our search radius and found the cache. No spoon needed these days unless you are taking a snack with.

The geokids made some swaps which they were very happy about.

Dropped off a CITO trackable, see if you can collect it and some trash if heading out this way. We took out a garden solar light top. Just why?

Thanks for the cache.

Find 191 for the tribe.

Out caching with the geokids this afternoon. Having solved this one previously it was on todays list.

What a great idea for a puzzle cache. I'd never try normal BASE jumping but was quite happy to have a go at this one. The puzzle was sorted with the aid of some online maps. Didn't know about the antenna location until doing this cache!

The infrastructure around the cache has been damaged but the cache is still there and in excellent condition. As reported previously there are some very prickly bushes nearby. As I'm pretty sure that the prickles are not native I took the liberty of using a large stick to remove a lot of the prickles for the benefit of future cachers. Still, take care at GZ.

Signed log and replaced as found. Left a swap for the next geokid who arrives.

Thanks for the cache!

Find 187 for the tribe, day 32 the final day of our mini streak.

Looking for a quick park and grab cache and most of the Kuringa drive by ones it was a little tricky to park near. This one had tons of parking nearby so it was a good option.

An easy find at GZ. Signed log and replaced as found. Cache and logbook in good condition with plenty of space.

Nicer than usual surroundings for this style of cache. Lovely native trees nearby, see pic.

Thanks for the cache, just what we were after today.

Find 185 for the tribe and day 31 of our mini streak.

It's been far too hot to do too much caching over the past few days but the cool change and associated light rain made it a pleasure to be out and about grabbing a few this evening. Out to get waterway payback and this one was a short walk away, so why not?

Had to wait a while before muggle and her dog moved on from the area but after that the coast was clear. Yes these trees look like they have been there a while. I wonder how old they are?

Spent a while looking at all the trees on offer here before something caught my eye and I made a quick grab.

Cache and log in good condition. Signed the log as BAT.

Thanks for the cache!

Find 186 for the tribe and day 31 of our mini streak.

It's been far too hot to do too much caching over the past few days but the cool change and associated light rain made it a pleasure to be out and about grabbing a few this evening. Even at night and in the rain I had to time my grab around muggles including a pizza man on two wheels descending the hill at speed past GZ! Please time your attempt at a time when there are few muggles about as suggested!

Retrieved cache and as stealthily as I could signed log as BAT. Cache and log in good condition. Did a little CITO - these locations seem to be a magnet for people who like leaving glass and other rubbish around.

This one definitely deserves a favourite point. Well done to the CO. An impressive hide and cache. I hope Barry enjoyed it as much as the tribe did.

Find 183 for the tribe and day 31 of our little streak.

After finding a knight in shining armour 2 yesterday while cycling nearby, today we returned for knight in shining armour and for the geokids first entire lap of the lake.

Geowife came up with the goods today using the ladybugs4 trick for removal of the cache. Cache in great condition. Signed and returned as found. A lovely spot for a break with plenty of seats to rest on.

Completed the 7.8km lap of the lake without any crashes! We'll be back for another loop another day!

Thanks for the cache and a happy Australia day to all from the tribe.

Find 184 for the tribe and day 31 of our mini streak.

It's been far too hot for our liking lately to do too much caching over the past few days. The cool change and associated light rain made it a pleasure to be out and about grabbing a few this evening with less fear of slithering things.

This one filled one more square on the grid that we hadn't found to date. Spent a bit of time looking around at GZ, then switched my brain on and made the find quickly after that. Previous finders are right, this one really depends on whether or not you've seen anything like this before.

A nice hide. Thanks for drawing our attention to this newer feature of the area and the impressive value of plants.

25-Jan-21
Find 182 for the tribe.

At 7.30pm it was still in excess of 30 degrees, but hey, the geokids are not sleeping until much later on with broken aircon so why not head to a park for some play and geocaching? Fun for everyone!

While the geokids wore themselves out on the play equipment geowife and geogranny looked for the cache but a little help was still needed from the rest of us.

When you read the cache description and look around, an easy find. Signed log and replaced as found.

Apparently I used to play here when I was a kid. Equipment has been updated since but nice to return with the next generation. Thanks for the cache!

Find #181 for the tribe, day 30 of our mini streak and that is about where it will end! Maybe just one or two more?

Out caching with the tribe by bicycle today. Started off on the other side of the lake near the dog park and slowly made our way to John Knight Park, who I never really knew that much about until today.

Today the geokids had a fairly good time apart from one bike crash, playing at a few playgrounds around the lake including the one with the snakes that have been there for so many years.

Gathered the information at waypoint 1 while learning what a 'gnonom' was and finding out about John Knight. Thanks for the checksum, that +1 almost caught me out. An easy find at GZ. Picked up a trackable to move on.

Thanks for the history lesson and the really nice single offset multi. We like these.

Find 180 for the tribe, day 28 of our little streak.

Another really hot Canberra day saw the tribe out seeking a cache to fill an empty square on the DT grid. Had the puzzle sorted in advance so off we went. In retrospect it probably could have waited for another day as the walk to GZ was hot and it was just the right weather for a dangerous slithering thing or two.

Found the cache in good condition with a few spaces left on the log. Returned cache as found.

Thanks for placing this cache. Would have been great to see it in all its glory but it was still a good hide.

Find 179 for the tribe, day 28 of our mini streak.

We were here a few months ago and logged a DNF, back then we had just started caching. It was encouraging to see a few people had found it since our DNF so geodog, geowife and I headed back this evening after a super hot day to have another shot at it.

Within minutes of getting to GZ geowife swiftly locates the cache. She wasn't with us last time, so all credit goes to her for this one.

Then off up the hill for a brief walk along the Mt Rogers loop path and to watch the remnants of the sunset. Sunsets are always stunning up there, highly reccomend watching one from up there if you have never done it before.

Thanks for the cache. Feels nice to avenge our previous DNF.

Find #178 for the tribe, day 27 of our mini streak.

Out caching in this very familiar neck of the woods this afternoon. I reckon I've travelled along this road probably 1000 times over the years but probably never been under it at this location. After a short search at GZ found the replacement cache and log. Signed and replaced as found. A pretty hot afternoon so had enough after this one. Off home for a cold drink

Thanks for the cache. I don't quite get this local bridge banner/banter thing, maybe one day I will understand it all.

Find #177 for the tribe. Day 27 of our mini streak.

Heading south today and we needed a driver change and what better place to stop than Badcoe VC.

Cache was right where the coords said. I was pretty cautious with the geokids reading past logs but there was nothing to worry about where we walked today. A quick find. Signed log and replaced as found. Cache in excellent condition.

Thanks for placing this series. What a lovely way to remember those who have given so much for our nation. I always knew that these rest areas were named after Victoria Cross recipients, but it's extra special to be able to read their story before you stop and find the cache.

TFTC.

21-Jan-21
No joy for the tribe here today. Will keep am eye on this one and see who else spots it before making a comeback with more tribe members. TFTH.

Find 176 for the tribe.

Out caching with the geokid a little a while ago, only getting around to logging and sending the answers now. Thanks for placing, the lake is a special place for the tribe, we enjoy walking and bike riding around it, or if we are feeling adventurous we have been known to get out in the '71 model kayak or '83 model canoe on the lake. A really peaceful place.

Our first Earthcache! We're new to this thing, hopefully we are doing it right.
