Well done Shazcol I was pleasantly surprised to get email notification that somebody had found this cache again. It really is a beautiful spot up there.
Since placing this cache I have taken my boys up there (xmas hols just gone)and have great photos of them tadpoling in the creek on the plateau. On the same trip we stayed at Pelion for 2 nights, climbed Ossa and swam in the waterhole at Old Pelion Hut.
Cheers

Hav'nt found a cache for a while, but still watch most of my favourites. I'm all for honesty, and if disgust really is one of the emotions you experienced, perhaps some quiet reflection on perspective would be helpfull. Just sayin'.

Excellent - Well done March Brown, a big daywalk!
If you PM me your Postal Adress, I'll send you the set of Pathtags,
congratulations.

Wow - This one would have to be right up there as on of my best caching experiences yet! Your a Cache Placing legend Sirius!
I had already decided I wanted to do this one as an overnighter so was in no hurry. Got to Bird River Bridge at 6pm and walked to East Pillinger, set up camp and had plenty of time for a couple of coldies on the jetty watching the sun go down - bliss. It was hard to imagine, sitting there in remote silence, that the combined population of East and West was about 1000 people around 100 years ago.
Up early and around to West Pillinger for B'fast outside Reindeer Lodge. The walk around took about 1.25Hrs with stops for photos, track finding etc, but got back easily in .5hrs. I enjoyed the log crossings, but they would be a different story altogether in winter I'd imagine.
All up, an extremely enjoyable and interesting experience.
Thank Sirius - photos to follow soon

Found this one on the way to Mt Beecroft. Started the walk just in front of a group from the L'ton Walking Club. Enjoyed the bit of off track walking up to the summit where the views were speccy on this sunny day, and got a good look at the terrain between here and Mt Beecroft. Cache was found easily and is in good nick.
Thanks Sirius.
Thanks Sirius.
I rarely get down Queenstown way and just happened to be here caching, so thought I'd pop in and have a look. It's a very interesting site. Pity the sign up on the road was'nt as informative as the signage along the walk - Just reads T.M.E. track.
Found the well placed cache OK and entered it's first log.
I did'nt open the FTF Prize (nice touch)as it felt flat and round,so left it for the next finder who is hopefully a collector of flat round things.
Thanks Craigrat.
I will put some photos up soon

Came down from Rocky Mount on Southern side and headed for the PCT. By this time the LWC group were in front of me strolling along, which gave me plenty of time to admire the views of Cradle and Barn Bluff.
I really enjoy this type of alpine open walking. I passed the LWC group when they stopped to re-group, and could then stretch my legs. I lost the track at the end of the spur at the base of the start of the steep bit, but had already worked out which way I wanted to go up whilst approaching the Mt from a distance - around the Western side of the large rocky outcrop. Got up the top in perfect weather and had a good look over to Back Peak and Mt Remus, which is a walk high on my agenda. Its just outside the Nat. Park too, so OK for dogs (wink wink).
On the way back had the pleasure of running into the C'eyres and stopped for a chat - luckily they remembered the Spotto cache, because I would'nt have.
Now, - off to Pillinger.
Another beauty, thanks Sirius

Thanks for the inadvertent heads up about this and the Lake Mcoy caches on the Bushwalk forum Sirius. Whilst I knew of the existence of the Maggs 17 track, I only used it as an alternative to Pelion for the first time about a month ago and had noted the turn off to Lake McCoy. I hav'nt been to Pillinger or Lake McCoy yet - good to know the circuit is quite doable.
Good stuff Carolleyres, just the type of caches to get me finding again.

Put it back out on 14/4, but not logged until 22/4, - Sorry to waste your time Swampy, I should have logged at St. Helens Library whilst over there.
Decided to put it out at the Day Use area at the end of the bitumen Rd. at The Gardens. Not a terribly exciting view from the car parking area, but a short walk takes you to a lovely area of sand dunes and rocks, perfect for......whatever.

Found whilst on a week long Easter break camping at Dora point with the family. Decided to check out all the camping spots along The Gardens Rd. for future trips, as we had never ventured up there. There are some great spots, but my favourite looked to be at end of Sloopys Reef Rd - sheltered, pretty and not big enough to get really crowded like everywhere else seemed to be!
Thanks Snuva.

Found whilst on the Bushwalk Tasmania Forum 2nd Anniversary get together at Lady Lake Hut. I took my 9 yr old son and camped in a tent near the hut. It was my first visit to the hut and it is a fantastic spot - very relaxing. The walk up was a bit of a slog with overnight pack but well worth it. Did a walk over to Lake Lucy Long and really enjoyed the alpine walking. Was very interesting to read of the huts history.
All is well with the cache.

Found today whilst walking from Badger Head thru to Springlawn to camp with eldest son and a couple of others from the Bushwalk-Tasmania forum. Had a great day and finding this cache added to the enjoyment. Good views from the seat where we rested for a while before the last leg to Springlawn. Cache is in good order and dry - good container.
Later that night we went for a walk on dusk to the open grassed area to the West of Visitors Centre and saw easily
100 Wallabies and several Wombats - quite spectacular!
Thanks Carolleyre.

Went into Pelion Hut to re-supply a food cache yesterday, so decided to find this cache today on the way out. Had wanted to try to find this crash site before a cache was there but had'nt got around to it. I kept a look out on the way in for the pad leaving the Arm River Track and found it OK - A retired FT Surveyor has kindly put some discrete pink tape near the start of the pad. The pad is quite distinct and easy to follow, gets a little harder once down in the forest but by then quite clost to GZ. It was quite exciting finding this wreck in the middle of nowhere, certainly would'nt stumble upon it by accident. The cache was found quite easily thanks to the new hint and all is well with it.
Excellent cache Wandering Blister, Thanks

Crickey Sirius, I reckon your a Greyhound in Staffys clothing, fantastic time - and taking the long way! No wonder your feet were sore, - your soles were smmmokin'! Saw your report on BWT - will consider that on similar future walks. Sure was a great walk!
Cheers, Geoskid
P.S Hookline - If this cache ever needs a maintenance visit and you cant make it, Please give me a Hoy, I'd love the excuse for a return visit with my son- (or wife or both).

Enjoyed reaching the plateau, the change in scenery was amazing, was looking forward to getting on top and viewing all of the lakes. The hut soon came into view and we were only about 400 m in front of 3 muggles, so had to find and log quickly, which we did. Checked out the hut which was well set up inside. The muggles soon arrived and had a chat, they were keen fishers who were going to stay 2 nights and fish a few lakes nearby, sounded perfect - something I might do in the future. On to the summit which was clearly visible.
Thanks Sirius.

This competition..er.. series is really starting to hot up now, and imagine it will even get hotter as it progresses - good stuff. Noticed Hookline found but obviously hasn't had time to log yet, so that makes me 4th - need to extract my digit methinks! Used the waypoint coords as a helpful guide, however could see clearly from my 1:25,000 map the gully route to take. Once on the flat at top of gully it was great to pick out the various lakes, could even clearly see the hut at the bottom of Lake Nameless, and Barn Bluff, Cradle and the Walls were easily distinguishable. Once at the top the hunt for the cache began, and it was nearly a caching disaster. When I did Devils Gauntlet C last weekend I took a slip of paper with the number on it, put it in my shirt pocket, and put it thru the washing machine once back at the caravan park - Doh! I was pretty sure I had remembered the number correctly, however after 45mins of thoroughly searching doubt set in. Another number kept popping into my mind, so still with doubt I plugged it into the formula and went searching and soon after LAB uncovered the cache - the relief was immense! The number I originally used was C-30, and the resulting coords had us about 60m away! We could clearly see Norms Hut from the trig, so after a leisurely lunch we decided to return by going straight down the front, aiming for the track part way between the top of the Western creek gully and Norms Shack, and it worked a treat. We got from the trig to carpark in 1hr 50mins, however all up time from carpark to carpark was 7hr 40mins - certainly no record, but we had a fantastic day! Thanks very much Sirius.
Started walking at 8.20 with a friend that we introduced to Caching, my main target was Devils Gauntlet E, but she was more than happy to find this cache and Norms Shack. Was a sunny day and a great walk up the gully. Got to the falls and the GPS was consistently pointing to the lower falls, downhill from the track. We made our way down and looked for ages in all sorts of spots that did'nt quite match the clue, had a good clambour all over the place down there before climbing back up to the track and looking for something that matched the clue. LAB found the cache in a spot that once found made perfect sense. On to Norms Shack. Noticed Hookline had been there 3 days before us. A cache in a good spot to break up the walk.
Thanks Sirius.

This cache finishes off the Circuit walk perfectly. I'm not sure if I would have gone to Bryans Beach if this cache had not been there, but it was, so I did (of course), and so glad I did as its luvly. Left cooks camp at 5.50am and had the beach to myself, with a yacht and a fishing boat anchored quite some way out in the Bay. The cache was found in it's well presented hidey hole after a short search. It was now 7am on a crisp sunny day, and the solitude and serenity overtook me, so I 'Nuded up For a Smilie'- as you do!
Thanks Hookline - fantastic cache!
Thanks Hookline - fantastic cache!
Had walked down to Hookline's 'Blue Champagne'( GA1305 )at Bryans Beach on the Freycinet Peninsula. It was 7am, nobody about, and quite serene. As I didnt have a book to read, I 'Nuded up for a Smilie' instead - made sense at the time!
Found on last morning of Freycinet visit, excellent facilities,
nice beach and views.
Thanks Robtas

Walked the big circuit down to Bryans Beach and back along Hazards Beach - fantastic walk. Had the Beach to myself and saw 4 Dolphins swimming in Wineglass Bay.

What a fantastic walk this was! Definitely the most taxing of the series so far. I had already decided I wanted to do this as an overnighter, and Hooklines 'Blue Champagne' sealed the deal. My family spent 3 Nights on Freycinet on the way back from 10 nights on Bruny in the caravan, specifically to cache and this one was the main target. I did the walk on my own and the rest of the family had thier own Freycinet Frolic on the beaches. I walked clockwise and camped at Cooks Hut and then down to Bryans Beach in the morning without the tent and then back to camp to pack up and completed the circuit along Hazards Beach, with the family meeting me half way around the Hazards with a cold beer. I really enjoyed not having to race the clock knowing I had all day to get to Cooks Hut. I started walking at 7.30am Sat and got to Cooks at 5pm, and started walking at 5.50am Sun. to Bryans and was back at Carpark by 12.30pm. Saw 4 dolphins swimming quite close to shore in wineglass bay. Really enjoyed the Plateau walking up to Mt. Graham and the awesome views all around. Dropped the pack before heading up Mt Freycinet where the real fun began - looked for ages for the cache before a mild panic attack set in about not finding the cache - this was not an option! After trusting the GPS and dropping my previous assumptions, thigs were all up after that and then the cache was found easily! Phew! A real sense of acheivement. I rang the family from the top to let them know where I was, and my 9 yr old son said he was standing next to the green gate at the caravan, and could I see him waving - of course I said yes! On to Cooks and some 'Blue Champagne'
Thanks Sirius, Just brilliant.

This was a really good walk, glad we went anti-clockwise so we went down the steep bit instead of up. Fantastic views along the coast. The kids handled it OK, but we had a tight rein on them along the scary bits. Interesting to read about the whaling days.

Excellent one Wandering Blister, I had heard of this crash site but hadnt been able to pin down an exact location, had a rough idea from a thread on the (www.bushwalk-tasmania.com) forum, - now you have made it so much simpler to find, and a cache to boot!- Thanks
Apparently the plane was doing a food drop to a Boys Brigade camped in Lees Paddocks when it came to grief.

Came here after Load of Old Bullocks and stopped at base of Falls on the way for lunch. Was quite unreal reaching the Plateau,- stood in the saddle where the track to Black Bluff departs the Penguin Cradle Trail and had good view down to Paddys Lake,- had seen many pictures of it before, and to be there was great. Very windy and views beyond were very misty. Cache easily found and all is well inside.
Thanks Sirius

On from Paddys Revenge. Gps was showing 680m to go, all up, where the mist was swirling. Got to top and there were patchy views to the North, but bitterly cold. Cache was found easily enough and in good order. Standing still resembled imitating drunk due to the wind.
Officially 3rd to find and gave remaining Tassie devil badge to TT as SW and I already had one. Remembered to take a code printout.
Glad to have finally got up here, but was appreciative of the company in the conditions. We came up the Tramwy Track and out the Brookes track with aid of car shuffle. Tramway track definitely the nicer walk with its rainforest. Falls were quite spectacular.
Thanks for another Ball Tearer Sirius, Top cache.
