Caching our way back from Kentucky with the "Pirates of the Carolina's". Our main goal was to do the Geotopia series then pick up some missing counties on our way back. Stopped by to pick up this mini run. Lucky the road was not too busy as we could not get off the road totally on a few. This was my '65th' find of the day. Thanks 'keetonfamily' for a fun time in the area.

Today was a solo day for me. The Pirates of the Carolinas were visiting their daughter so I decided to do a numbers run instead of a county run. Planned on going east a bit to do the grasslands and farms. It started out slow as I hit the outer edges first. Once in the middle the caches came quicker. These power runs seem to be spaced at about .25 to .4 miles apart so it was a longer drive. After about 100 caches and spotting my second rattler it slowed me down as I took my hiking stick to tap the ground in front of me to warn both any snake and me. I still had a great time. This was my '2nd' find of the day. Thanks '-TwoCs-' for a great time in area today.

Starting our trip out to Nevada area. We called ourselves the Sesame Street Gang. We had Bert (WE4NCS), Ernie (CacheUMan), The Count (Night-Hawk) and me Big bird. Got a late start after flying in so we only cached from the rental car agency to the hotel. This was our 10th find of the night. Thanks 'HarryCharlot' for placing this cache.

We stumbled on this incredible yard display on Route 52 just outside Pine Bush, NY. Even though this torpedo is on the smaller side, upon closer look, we found that it did indeed have a propeller in the back.

We were on our way home from New York to North Carolina and took a scenic drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a part of the way. We got off the highway at Buchanan, VA and headed over to the BRP on Route 43. This stop was our first and was right where Rt 43 meets up with the parkway.
We made several other stops along the Blue Ridge Parkway where the AT crosses. At one stop, the Big Bird managed to obtain some "extra luck". After he got back in the car and started heading down the road, the Cuckoo Bird and Grandpa Pirate started to detect a very bad odor. We all thought maybe one of the others had gastonomical problems, so we all kept quiet until we could take it no more! [xx(] Sure enough, the Big Bird had "stepped in it" and we had to pull over and try to remedy the situation. Good thing we had extra shoes in the car!
Thanks for the adventure!

This sphinx guards a mausoleum in North Bergen, NJ at the Flower Hill Cemetery. We could not go into the cemetery because the gates were closed, but we got pictures through the wrought iron fence.

Had to take a bit of a drive off the beaten path to find this one. We were on our way home to NC from Indianapolis and just HAD to come by. Found the coordinates for the barn on the web. But here we are! The barn is located outside of Cynthiana, KY on US 62. The letters on the roof are very faded, but you can still make them out. Thanks for the challenging hunt!

Pike County, OH - in the new government center.
The building was closed when we arrived. Oh, No! What will we do? Lo and behold, the bell was in view in the lobby. Well, we decided to take a photo through the glass and one with the Big Bird in front of the building.

Monkey Face is a famous rock formation in Smith Rock State Park (visit link) in Terrebonne, Oregon. We hiked the trails in the park to get a great view. However, you can also see the formation from NE 9th Street outside the park. Unfortunately our photos of this feature did not do it justice, so we cannot claim it as our find.
However, while we were traveling the trail back along the Crooked River, we came upon another formation that reminded us all of a horse head. These are the coordinates that are posted.
Thanks for the fun cache! We'll always be on the lookout for animals of stone!

Located in the North Carolina Zoological Park, this Turner statue is a very popular work of art. Children and adults like to sit on the bronze lioness and have their pictures taken.
The statue is called "Lioness and Cubs". The lioness is depicted with a cub by her side and two other cubs are playing tug of war behind her.
Thanks for providing us with a fun hunt!

North Carolina's Other Lighthouse!
Shown here is a tower on Lake Mattamuskeet in North Carolina which is the state's largest natural lake covering 40,000 acres.
The lake is significantly smaller in size from the 50,000-60,000 acres it once was. At the turn of the century an ambitious scheme was conceived to drain the lake. In 1911, the Southern Land Reclamation Company purchased 48,820 acres from the State of North Carolina and began implementing these plans. A giant pumping station and an extensive network of large canals and smaller ditches through and around the Lake were constructed to form a drainage district of over 100,000 acres. The pumping station was the largest in the world at the time with four steam-powered pumps capable of moving 1,250,000 gallons of water per minute.
