Logs for West Highlander
03-Apr-10
I see it but not touch it. How frustrating, but then that is the story of urban caching particularly in the city - always lots of people. It's part of the challenge. Another time.
Parked at intersection of James x Old Belair. Big Mistake. Knees screamed like hell on the way down and my lung scream likewise going up. There was no way I was leaving without victory. Parking at Brownhill Creek Road definitely the way to go. Nice hide.
Another example of GC taking you places you never knew were there. Almost gave up on this one. It was hard find (I had to use the hint - I was not getting a good enough fix) - and one I almost gave up on until hanging my head in defeat I said to myself "hang on, what that!"
02-Apr-10
Went to GZ - asked myself where would I hide a cache? It was just screaming out to be found!
Muggles everywhere. Eventually some peace and quiet to stick my finger in a crevasse!
27-Mar-10
The path of downtrodden grass into the bushes was a give away. Took lovely bird brooch and left a nice seashell. Check out the airfield while you are there - never knew that was there and tis one of the joys of GC to discover what one never knew was to be discovered.
1st cache for a few years. I'm back in the game! Left Leaping Lizard travel bug - he has been in my GC bag for 4 long years, now set free. I left one polished rock to add to the cache.
Nice little drive by OTW home. The oval inside of mobilong was very, very green - obviously must have different water restrictions "on the inside". Took a leopard and left a tom bowler marble.
07-Aug-06
Not hard to guess where the cache was hidden. However I arrived just after school finished. The local kids were crawling over the place - well at least sliding down the hill on boards. Once they had muggled off I could feast on another geocache!! Good Hunting
It really does help if you can add and subtract accurately. After this error was identified it was a good find. As a matter of coincidence, until last year, I used to be the Parish Priest of the particular cemetary in question. I have done many a funeral there myself and I never knew Thomas Pedler was one of my former "parishioners"! Good Hunting!
A walk in the park after Tatendi. Experienced cachers will have no difficulty with this at all. On the way back from Gate 9 take the detour across the river: there is a lovely waterfall just upstream from the confluence between the Onkaparinga River and Bakers Gully Creek. Check it out on the uploaded waypoint. Good hunting!
Track, I didn't see any any track down or up. Mr Hurtle you are torturing us. I used the Western gully for part of my descent and found this to be a good approach to the river. Nearly stepped of Mr Red Belly on the way up, who was sunning himself in the sun - nearly a metre long. When the little fellow wants to move he can be like grease lighting and if he came after you, you would not be able to outrun him. All day afterwards, however, ever stick turned into either Mr Red Belly or his brother Mr Brown. Pardon me for for neurosis. Congratulations Hurtle - this is a commendable challenge. I am, however, fearful of what you might call 4 or 5 in difficulty / terrain!! Good Hunting!
It was a choice between cold feet or wet feet. I almost chose the former but I wanted those co-ordinates so much that wet feet it was... and slosh, slosh, slosh, all the way home. Good hunting!
04-Aug-06
Well I thought this was going to be a quickie. Wrong. A well hidden cache. Thanks. Good Hunting everyone!!
Another good Hurtle picnic spot. Thankfully this one of Hurtle's easier cache. Goodness me, a driveby - must have a bit of a soft moment of relief between tortures!! Good hunting everyone
Anyone for base jumping?? Pity the drop is not quite high enough. Better just looking. Thanks Hurtle. Good Hunting everyone!
What a lovely spot - pity I left my lunch back on the WestieMobile. Anyway sat for a while dreaming of # 15. Not far to go now. Next week for sure!! Good hunting!
03-Aug-06
Maybe the GPS was on battery saver or something. Nothing wrong with the cacher, must be the equipment, yeh, must be the equipment.
Nice easy find. Good place for a summer bonfire - though NP&WS probably would not give permission!! Took Dukes of Hazard keyring. Left Shell. Good hunting!
Wesley has a nice view. A place of good memory. By the way, do not mix up the X and Y co-ordinates: x is metres from the post in y degrees, not y is metres from the post in x degrees. Woops! Cache is well hidden. Good hunting!
Make sure you have seen your cardiologist before doing this one. Steep - the climb back up redefines what steep is. Not steep for the Toyota WestieMobile - just steep for people when they are not being towed along by their Westie's. Well worth it, though - check out the picture. Good Hunting!
31-Jul-06
Now this is view. Do come here and enjoy the view. Have a sit and relax. Think about all the geocaches to come!!
I lived on minutes away in McLaren Vale for a few years where I was the parish priest and never knew this gem was here. What a find! When you get to WP2 do take the detour down the hill to the river. It is very steep down and ever steeper back up but you will find the most delightful place to have a picnic. Do enjoy. Retrieved TB Leaping Lizard. TNLNSL. Good hunting!

Nice walk Alex. Looks like Sirius beat me to the geo coin by a matter of hours. Next time I won't wait so long. Good hunting!

What a clever hide. My wife said "hey what about this" and I said, "Nah - not that" and decided the other side of the creek was worthy of attention. Meanwhile wife was not convinced by my doubts and continued prying at the suspicious object and voile! Good hunting!

Certainly beats going to the Netherlands. Of course it was windy but that's the point!!
For one horrible moment I thought this was a DNF. GZ's on a vertical axis can be problematic. Then all I had to do was walk back and voile there it was. A good way to end the day. It's a pity we couldn't stay for a little collation on the beach with those who had set up camp there with bonfire!!
11-Jul-06
There was a bush screaming out "look in here" - well I looked, and looked, and looked, and looked. It was a blessing the shop was closed otherwise someone probably would have called the police. No joy. Just ran out oxygen and disintegrated on re-entry. Damn it. This sport can be so infuriating!! Good hunting

The orion taxiing onto the nearby runway was cool!. The cache - well it just screamed over the screaching turbines "hey look at me". Even our onboard West Highland White Terrier saw the cache from the WestieTractor. Good hunting!

Nice spot Alex. Wasn't really sure that I was allowed to go near GZ - you know, police dogs and all that. Our faithful West Highland White Terrier protected us and guided us to the prize. Good hunting!

Searching, searching, searching and finally found one in Bachelor Park. I've also included the unley Sundial for old times sake. Now I want a Sundial all of my own. Thanks Astro for another good cache. I'll do your caches any day!!
Took 10,000 Heaven Bank note left gemstone. Thank you Alex.
**** Alex you need a new log book - 2 pages left ****

When the sat loc gave out it just a matter of selecting which tree! Took "Frequent Sippers Card" (I initially got excited because I misread it!!). Left Scout badge. Thank you.
A tragic yet interesting place. I hope it is my last visit. Left fork. took Heaven Bank Note. Thank you.

"Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened" (Isa 35:5) - Alex, as soon as you said "it's a small cache not a micro" immediately I could see. Happy Birthday Geocaching and may you have many happy returns.
After a quick course in ballistics and some enjoyable mathematics I was soon on the mark. Whilst filling out the log book some flies decided to bother me. So I did what I always do - I swiped them. BIG MISTAKE - they were VISCIOUS ATTACK BEES. I was stung twice and chased for several hundred metres. Next problem: how to get the cache back to its home....
02-Jan-06
Nice drive by OTW home from the river. Took Australia keyring and left gemstone. Thanks.
Was out by myself and chickened out on the slippery cliff as I did not feel like a swan dive!!
I enjoyed this one a lot. Two good hides. The last was easy to locate but difficult to retrieve without looking suspsicious to all the passing muggles!! Took tape measure and left egg timer.
Nice location. We had to wait until some victorian travellers had travelled some more. It was sufficient reason to open the coffee and cake we had stowed on our onboard cache!!
As this was a public holiday and during the holiday season we tried a number of times to get access but each time there was a different station waggon parked nearby, packed up to the roof, bikes on the towbar, etc that had just disgorged its tired passengers onto the cache area! When we finally did get an opportunity later in the afternoon all the sprinklers came on - I got wet and called it quits. Thanks for the fun!
