Logs for firnsy
10-Apr-24
Yes, it's a bit of a shame that so few cachers are visiting the GCA caches around Dunedin. I've had very little time and few opportunities for caching over last few years but when I do get back into it, the GCA caches will be top of my do list.

Quick find here while on my last little caching run before boarding a plane for NZ later today.Tbanks for the hide OOH YEH. SL.
On my last little caching run before boarding a plane for NZ later today. Quick find here and laughed at the word-play when I recognised the cache's host object. SL. Thanks for the hide jinta29
Another quick find here and this will be my last find in Aus for some time. Thanks for the hide OOH YEH. SL.

Over from NZ spending a few days with geo-son in Wellard and managed to fit in a bit of caching. Quick find here as this one was exposed too. Signed the log and left the cache reasonably well concealed compared to how we (out with the geo-wife today) found it. Thanks for the hide and the series jinta29. We'll be back to finish the series one day.
Spending a few days with geo-son in Wellard and managed to fit in a bit of caching. GPSr wouldn't settle here, but found the cache after a couple of minutes. Thanks for the hiser jasenjanine
Arrived to find the empty cache container upturned, and no sign of a log book/sheet anywhere. Put a bit of paper in the container, secured but not water-proofed.
Arrived at the CO's house, which seemed deserted - no cars in the driveway. Found the clue quickly, and sat in the geo-rental-kia listening to the radio for a few minutes and working out the final coordinates. Then as I was about to shoot away, I noticed Mrs OOH YEH's car had turned up, so went to knock on the door. Gave her a bit of a start as she hadn't heard me knocking but was heading out the door anyway. We had a chat and compared notes on the final location ... a small correction was made to my coordinates and I headed off to GZ. Got there and found the empty cache container upturned, and no sign of a log book/sheet anywhere. Put a bit of paper in the container, secured but not water-proofed. Thanks for the hide Allied Pranksters. Fav for this one.
Over from NZ spending a few days with geo-son in Wellard and managed to fit in a bit of caching. A magpie here was looking after it's territory and herded me and the geo-wife away as best it could. Thanks for the hide and the series jinta29. I look forward to finishing the series one day.
Over from NZ spending a few days with geo-son in Wellard and managed to fit in a bit of caching. Thanks for the hide here jinta29 and for the coolly themed series. I look forward to finishing the series one day. Ouick find here as the cache was exposed (it wasn't when I left).

On a flying visit to Perth for a few days and wandering through the mall with my geo-wife who suddenly said "didn't we once spend ages around here trying to find a geocache?". "We sure did" I replied, realising I was standing right next to GZ, so decided to grab the cache to check it out. Three cops were walking past right at that moment and I shared a nod and a smile with one of them just as I made the grab. Nice to see this one still in play and in good nick, and the constabulary none the wiser.

*FTF*. Checked my email this morning and saw the notification for this cache and your other one, so decided to go for the FTFs. Arrived at GZ and I have to say I commenced the hunt in the dumbest possible way. After exhausting most possibilities, I took a few steps back to assess GZ from a distance, spotted something on the other side of the creek from where I was standing and had the cache in hand shortly thereafter.
Thanks TMP8490 for the cache and the FTF prize. Have a Fav for this one as it is something a bit different and a great first hide.

*FTF*. Checked my email this morning and saw the notification for this cache and your other one, so decided to go for the FTFs. Went a bit further afield looking for this one at first because I was expecting something larger for some reason. Found quickly when I rechecked cache size and trusted my GPS. Thanks TMP8490 for the hide and the FTF prize.
Took a fair while to find this one. Couldn't see anything that resembled a cache at GZ, so after a while resorted to using senses other than sight and found it a shortly thereafter. Thanks for the cache duck 43
Noticed, in the general vicinity of GZ, a few objects that might have fit the bill for a duck cache, but there was one in particular that caught my eye and it proved to be the one. Pencil was missing and I didn't have a pen, so I managed to leave my moniker with the aid of a bit of charred bark. Replacing the cache was the most difficult part of the process as a muggle turned up while I was hunting for the charred bark. Got there in the end. Thanks for the cache duck43.BTW, the log book is almost full. Attached photo is my scratched moniker in one of the last available spaces).

Quick trip to WA and found time to grab a cache or three today. Something near GZ caused a bit of distraction here, but the cache was uncovered shortly thereafter. Thanks for the hide OOH YEH
Quick trip to WA and found time to grab a cache or three today. Quick find here in the obvious place. Seemed to be a few resident mozzies here. Feeling chuffed that I doubled my total finds for the 2020's today. Thanks for the hide OOH YEH

Been out here walking the dog many times over the last few years and never thought to check whether there was a cache here until today. Quick find. The lid is cracked and there was water in the cache, but the log is dry for now. Thanks for the cache Guwapo

As the former CO and creator of this cache, I'd prefer it be archived rather than see it replaced with a clip lock container. It has lost its relevance if the original host is missing.
Edited 22/10: note that I have nothing against clip lock containers; I've put plenty of them out. The thing is, the moment I set eyes on that gnome on a shelf in a Fremantle gift shop, I knew exactly what I was going to do with it and what the name of the cache would be, even though I hadn't thought about a cache for Luna Maya until that moment.
So the cache is the gnome and the gnome is the cache.
That said, maybe it's still there? One DNF (apparently?). It would be good for a previous finder to check and also check for cache creep ... unless of course the site has been compromised.

If a previous finder could check this when in the area, it would be much appreciated. I can't maintain the cache at present.

Finally got around to taking a few photos of the station last week after having this cache on the planned list since it was published. The attached pic is unusual in two aspects: 1. it was taken from a point on Castle Street from which a view of the station was blocked by the chocolate factory until recently and soon will be blocked again by the hospital build; 2. the station is scaffolded and covered in a canopy emblazoned with an image of the station itself. (sorry the photo doesn't include me or my GPSr ... hope you have it in you to accept it anyway ).
Thanks for the cache dezza.
Thanks for the cache dezza.
Arrived at GZ had a quick look around, touched the first thing I noticed - lo and behold the cache was in hand. There were two loco's in the yard, a DX (5212) and a DC (4876) - photos attached. Thanks for the cache U.N.C.L.E. and for piquing my interest in things rail.

Caught up in Dunedin on a beautiful May morning. Thanks Team Red Roo for choosing to stay with us on your Dunedin visit.

Well it took just a few minutes to come up with workable coordinates after I saw this published and I'd like to say it was a quick find as well, because it should have been. I headed to GZ shortly after solving the puzzle and the skies opened up just as I arrived, so I stayed long enough to get soaked, looking everywhere except the obvious place and probably over-thinking things a bit before going home to dry off. Came back a couple of days later and found the cache quickly, just as I should have the first time. Thanks for the hide Uncle and also for my first FTF of a physical cache in NZ.

Finally logging this one online, having signed the log here 18 months ago. Thanks for the hide and for taking me to this spot.

Bit of a shame given the effort you put into creating this cache and it was a great caching experience.

Yes, the cache will go if/when the business is sold. There will be some lead time and I will try to remember to post a note ahead of archiving the cache.
22-Nov-21
Removing maintenance flag for now. It was found 3 months ago. Waiting for another DNF or previous finder check.

Here's another one from 'The Gnome Country', written by OOH YEH on https://coord.info/GC4P68P (NB - the cache has been adopted by OOH YEH, but I was the creator and was CO at the time of OOH YEH's log):
"Skippy 46 came over my house yesterday for a coffee and while she was there i came up with the idea we should head out today and get the 3 gnome hunter caches we still havent found....Sometimes i wish she would tell me my ideas are stupid and we,re not doing it but she agreed so today we headed out with the forecast of 26 degrees and we were hoping we wouldnt come across any snakes as we have both encountered them in the last couple of days. I thought i had this all planned out so i parked the car close to ant trail 1 so we could walk down a nice flat track.. After finding Gnome hunter Jacobscrew we saw that this cache was 459 metres away AS THE CROW FLYS and at this stage i was wishing i was a crow because the only way we could work out to get to this cache was to climb all the way to the bottom and then all the way back up the top on the other side. It was also at this stage we are thinking maybe we are doing this the hard way because this ISNT a terrain of 3 its more like a 5...But we started going down with skippy 46 in front and we get to a very steep drop and skippy 46 says i think we should slide down this steep flat rock on our backsides and i will go first you just keep hold of the back of my backpack whilst i get started. She decides to unclip the bottom of her backpack and left the top clip done up around her chest and started to move with me hanging onto her back pack with one hand and then she lost her footing and slipped...This wasnt good as now her back pack with the clip done up is around her neck while im still trying to keep hold of her. With a bit of a struggle she got the clip undone but at the same time i somehow let go of her and she fell but luckilly it wasnt a long drop. After all this we continued to the bottom and i must say it took us ages and we were stuffed once we got there...We were actually so stuffed we were having these bad thoughts of maybe we could make out we lost the pen and couldnt sign the log and then we wouldnt have to climb up this hill that looks like Mount Everest but no we couldnt do it so up we went. This climb took forever...We actually left Jacobscrew at 10am and we didnt get to this cache till 12.20pm. Once we signed the log it was all downhill again except now we were just about out of water and as that damn crow flies it was 1.2km to the ant trail 1. All i kept thinking is WHY are we doing this as we are going down and down till we got to a track. We werent sure at first if this track took us back to where we needed to be but it was all up hill so off we went and then skippy 46 heard running water so she filled our water bottles up in the stream, soaked her feet for 5 minutes and it was back to the uphill walk again. I think it was 2.20pm when we finally got back to the airconditioned car. I did say to skippy 46 that it makes a change i didnt have any falls today but then i realized i had spent more time crawling on my hands and knees or sliding on my backside HAHA... I think im now saying this because im worn out and delirious, im giving you another favourite point for all the effort you put in to putting these caches out TFTC firnsy".
Thanks No Tomorrow for the cache and for prompting me once again to reread some of the great logs written by Gnome Hunters.

I never thought I'd see the day when there'd be a race to FTF for GCA traditionals in Dunedin ... maybe we're not quite at that level yet, but Lions.v.Lambs got here before me regardless. Still, I'm happy to have left my moniker in second place. Thanks for the hide U.N.C.L.E.
Another 2TF for me today with Lions.v.Lambs taking FTF honours. Thanks for the hide U.N.C.L.E. It was cool to see a couple of GCA traditionals pop up in Dunedin.

Thanks for replacing the log DEZ055 ... no need to send me the old one, but if you want to add a photo of it to the cache gallery, that would be cool.

Spotted a couple of people looking for something and assumed they were looking for the other cache that used to be here ... hadn't realised it had been archived and this new one placed. I had DNF'd the old one a couple of times, but had a theory about where it was, so I passed this on to the two cachers, they checked where I suggested and came up trumps, then kindly lent me their pen to sign the log. My first GC find for a couple of years and it was handy to have someone do the retrieval bit for me
Thanks for the hide W.E.K.A.

My first ever hide was GC35ZNY Surf's Up (Coogee) published on 18 Oct 2011 and archived on 09 Jul 2016, whilst still in situ. Has been logged a couple of times since then and may still be there.
