Logs for wookie-athos

09-Oct-08
Found the location easily enough, along with the likely hiding spot. But searching the spot intensively (with torch and by feel) found no cache.

31-Jan-08
The area definitely looks like anything that was there has gone.

Drove past here earlier in the day and thought "that'd be where a cache might be". Looked at the GPSr later and saw I was right! Smile
At GZ it was in an obvious place, but hidden well enough that I missed it on my first pass.

28-Jan-08
I also tried for quite a while to no avail. Either it's gone, or the difficulty should be significantly more than 1!

27-Jan-08
An easy find, although sleight of hand was needed to avoid the interest of cars sitting at the nearby traffic lights.
TFTC!

26-Jan-08
Found without too much hassle. Easier than the other multi's in this series!

25-Jan-08
Found it with a slight detour from driving home up Hoddle St.
Not sure I agree with the terrain rating being 1: this is definitely NOT accessible to someone in a wheelchair!

Got a pleasant surprise to find Alamo Spin 2 here - it passed through my hands elsewhere a month back. It was the only TB in residence here - Silver Cat must be somewhere else.

24-Jan-08
A straightforward find beside the path - TFTC!

Still got a couple more Damper caches to go...

Dropped Java the Pup TB off in an appropriately doggy location to play with some other dogs for a while...

23-Jan-08
Dropped in during the wee hours of the morning on my way back to Melbourne. Not hard to find, although exploring the area in the dark presented a few challenges.

Left the Merry Christmas Cachers TB so there's at least ONE TB here!

Advice to the foolish: don't try to jump the creek. The mud around it is VERY soft, and doesn't smell all that good when it's covering your boots and splashed up your trousers... Smile
Go the "long" way around (well, it seemed longer in the dark).

22-Jan-08
Picked up Java Pup, Merry Christmas Cachers, and Left Shoe.

2nd attempt at finding a RDMC - much easier when the cache is actually there! Smile
Now I have a clearer idea of what to look for with any others.

Foiled!

In the dark at 11pm wandering around the park, closed in on GZ only to find a fisherman (? it was dark but he seemed to have rods with him) sitting right on top of it having a smoke. Gave me quite a start in the full moonlight as I came around the corner!

21-Jan-08
Found it after a bit of searching.

An earlier log mentioned someone had tried to improve the camouflage: when replacing the cache this was a challenge. Without some camouflage the cache is clearly visible if you look in the right place. Some appropriate material attached to the cache could solve this problem.
Also the lid of the cache doesn't attach very well. I removed a rubber thumb tip from the contents to let it close enough, but as it is the lid could easily come off.

Left GC. TFTC!

20-Jan-08
Found it without too much hassle. Took the cache back to my car and tried to dry it out as much as possible before returning it: it was rather damp.
If it's damp next time someone checks it, it'll mean there's a leak.

TFTC!

[Found it without too much hassle.]
BTW, casuarina is the name you were looking for: not a conifer at all.

[TNLN. TFTC!]

19-Jan-08
A subtle hide - well done!

BTW, despite the "non-24/7" attribute to this cache, as it's outside the premises it IS accessible 24/7.

TNLN, TFTC.

The "canyon" between the buildings combined with the arrangement of the satellites when I was visiting meant my GPSr accuracy was very low - at first I was looking in entirely the wrong spot.
Then I re-read the description, engaged "geosense", and found it in short order.

Left Czech GC, took nothing. TFTC!

18-Jan-08
It can be fairly exposed to muggles, but we camped out for a while watching the sport...

Swapped the Fragrant Harbour GC for the Haughton's Hunters GC.

17-Jan-08
On our way home after dinner out, I dropped in on this cache to show my partner, and was surprised to find the Czech coin! It's a nice one - we took it and will drop it somewhere nearby soon.

Covered the container carefully again. It was dark and we were using a torch, but the cache did reflect the light a bit too much. It's better now though.

TFTC again!

16-Jan-08
Parked the car, popped the boot, and that provided a lot of "muggle protection". Left Aotearoa to Suomi GC.

15-Jan-08
No luck this time, but it was dark and maybe we missed something. Will try again soon.

14-Jan-08
A clever hide, although as noted in the other logs it could do with a little fine-tuning.

The cache description should be "Micro", not "Small". I was just going off the info in my iPod and was looking for something a bit larger than I found.

13-Jan-08
For a while I've noticed this one "nearby" on the GPSr as I've been driving nearby, and today took the time for the quick side-trip to find it. As it turned out, a quiet Sunday afternoon was the perfect time for it.

Dropped off the I Glow GC.

08-Jan-08
That'll teach me to check the previous logs before attempting a cache (this was an "attempt of opportunity" - I guess I need the logs in my paperless DB).

12:00 am - no muggles so had a close examination of the whole area. No cache in evidence (although I did find an Orb Weaver in the middle of a huge web, and a Sitella sleeping in a corner).

07-Jan-08
Passing through town, this cache was quite convenient.
The previous logs proved useful in guiding me to the cache (after dark as it happened).

Took nothing, left TB.
TFTC!

05-Jan-08
A neat hide, although fairly exposed to the sun and heat on a hot day like this.
Be aware of the ants nearby if you sit down to go through the cache contents...

Took 2 GCs and one TB,
left Canadian GC.

TFTC!

04-Jan-08
Dropped by with the geokids, swapped an "alien brain" toy for the phone "charm".

A good spot, easy to find if you park the car in the right spot (it's a one-way road so it's hard to go back). Only difficulty was the intense sun beaming down on me (should have worn a hat).

TNLN, TFTC!

Found it, although the log indicates that someone else (I didn't note the name) found it recently about 60m away under a tree and hoped they'd put it back in the right spot.
I suspect it isn't in exactly the right spot (although I did find it easily enough) and suggest the owner have a look to make sure all is well.

TNLN. TFTC!

Not a hard find once the GPSr had settled down.

Crossing the "creek" wasn't a problem (I must have come from the "wrong" direction).

03-Jan-08
Thanks solomonfamily for the updated cache.

One difference from the original is that when muggles come around the corner it's a little harder to suddenly look innocent. Could be tricky!

Took coin, left Jeepster TB

A pleasant spot beside the track! Very nice.

TNLN. TFTC

02-Jan-08
An easy find a short walk from the car. TNLN.
GPS accuracy (4m) wasn't a problem, although there was still a small area to search. Only muggle around was a distant person with dog.

1st of January 2008 (stupid website needs updating)

Finally found this cache after a few abortive attempts over the previous several months!

1st of January 2008!

An early morning visit to avoid the summer heat. Took Canadian GC, left Alamo Spin GC.

The cache has been muggled. The container can be spotted further along the creek (I've found the cache before, so I know what it looks like) and unfortunately it seems to have been opened and the contents are presumably lost.

I tried to retrieve the container, but got too close to falling in...

Please excuse the crappy phone photos.

1st of January, but the stupid website won't let me select 2008!

Took a friend to find this one. Left Australian Wanderer TB, took Cardinal TB.

Dropped by to leave a TB.

26-Dec-07
It's a nice bouncy bridge!
Found with a friend while hunting for a few nearby caches.
Took Alamo Spin, War Memorial magnet, left keyring.

TFTC!

23-Dec-07
Found it after an easy walk. Walked a couple of metres away from 3 Grey Kangaroos beside the track on the way back to the car.

TNLN, TFTC!

BTW, Air Medal must have left the cache some time back...

16-Dec-07
Yet another hidden suburban park.
TFTC!

Another local park that's actually larger than I had expected...

"Get back to work!"

It's still quite wet. Happened to have a fresh bag along today when introducing a friend to caching during a BBQ at said picnic tables, so put the log into it. But really it needs drying-out properly, and possibly the seal on the box needs repair. The log is going mouldy already.

Dropped off Stealth GC, took plastic slinky.

11-Dec-07
A plain traditional cache on a pleasant jungle walk. Thanks!

Took SJ Stealth coin, dropped off Cornish coin (hopefully starting its travels back to Cornwall) and Tumby Bag TB.

No muggles in evidence the whole time, but the family kept watch from the path to be sure.

Forgot to point the camera up the hill (hadn't reviewed this page for a while prior to visiting) but the construction's still going on. While waiting at the nearby tram stop for a ride back towards the cable car we were watching squirrels chasing each other along the fence up the hill surrounding the construction.

03-Dec-07
Worked out afterwards I got it from not-the-most-obvious angle (I'm taller than most). After I put it back the same way I noticed when leaving that it could still be seen from a different angle, but that was easily fixed.

TNLN. TFTC!

Took a few minutes of walking around to work it out, but got it before long. TFTC! (TNLN)

Thanks for the neat hide!

29-Nov-07
A very effective hide, but as noted the cache was very wet!

The bag containing the log had held up, but the rest was waterlogged. I took the cache back to the car and spent a while drying things out (it's been a hot day so it only took about 1/2 an hour and a bunch of tissues to dry out most of the swaps).
Pulled out the box's rubber "seal" and dried in all the crevices before reassembling. Took one of the swaps (smiley badge) because it had rusted up badly. Also disposed of the pen (it no longer worked) and replaced it with the biro from my car's glovebox. Put everything back together, with a couple of tissues in the swaps bag to absorb any remaining moisture.
