Weather was hot but I wanted to get some caches (particularly ones with higher D/T combinations to boost my annual average). Too hot to walk in Mt Pilot or the Warbys. Not enough in and saving Wagga for a cooler day. So this collection of poke caches at Beechworth were perfect - not too much walking but good numbers.I contacted ampitup1 to borrow her TOTT and she was keen to come along to get the last in the series that she had yet to sign (she got the last five and I signed 8 of 9 and we both walked to one other). We had 3 other tools in the car, two of which were also used at various times. This was the one cache not requiring a TOTT and so we did the short walk in the heat up the track and then the short walk through the bush to GZ. I had definitely done the previous cache here so enjoyed the view and then quickly found the cache. Then back to the car and into the air conditioning again.TFTC BettyBoo3747

I got the cache down easily enough but spent a long and hot time returning it to its spot. Tried three different angles before getting it in place.TFTC BettyBoo3747

Up this track to the not so elusive elephant (though I missed on the first scan). Didnt even need full extension here. And quickly returned.TFTC BettyBoo3747

We put back where we thought it might go but might need a check.TFTC BettyBoo3747

Took one TOTT bank to the car and obtained a much longer one. I was half way up with the pole swinging around and the cache was soon retrieved. Log dry and fine here today. Pretty easy to return as well.TFTC BettyBoo3747

Was just enough clearance and so we parked just past and walked back. I was just short last time so I had the small TOTT to assist and this cache was easily retrieved this time. Also managed to get back first time which was helpful.TFTC BettyBoo3747

This was an easy retrieve and took a bit more to return but got there in the end.TFTC BettyBoo3747

Spotted reasonably quickly once I looked away from the distracting big tree. A quick retrieval as well - carried the small TOTT up here for nothing. Quickly returned and now into Beechworth for a thirst quenching beer.TFTC BettyBoo3747

Looks I will be heading home from Sydney after a trip to the North Coast on the 26th. So I will be definitely dropping in on my way home to Albury. May be a very brief visit (I suspect an hour at mist) but will be there. Will be one at the moment - the 3 kids will probably amuse themselves elsewhereLooking forward to it
17-Nov-24
Still on my radar - just need to get across and do the full loop again
16-Nov-24
Went to have a look (just around the corner) but the back gate was open and so couldn't access the hide.Wouldn't surprise me if this was gone - I will check again over the weekend and if it is missing might be time to say goodbye to this one.

I am hoping to get 1000 caches (without AdLabs) this year but also trying to get an average of 2/2 for all these caches. I am on over on the T at the moment but just short of the D. So getting a few more challenging caches around Mt Pilot was the aim today. Only a few caches found but some nice country traversed. I started this a while ago (though took two visits to WP1 to start - must have been blind first time). On Wednesday I tried a different approach for WP2 but ended up at a house! Today I drove the long way and got the required info. Sorted the numbers out and had something close enough to do the final maths once there. After visiting a Banksia (another day to collect that one) had enough time before heading home so I headed back to the calculated coordinates, did a bit more fiddling with numbers and wandered to GZ. Looked around at another classic Bingley hide and the cache was quickly spotted. Glad to get this one sorted.TFTC Bingley3683

So getting a few more challenging caches around Mt Pilot was the aim today. Only a few caches found but some nice country traversed. Halfway back to the car from The Wilderness I realised I was heading towards Warden Road so I decide to head straight down the hill and head to this one (only one small patch of Callitris to negotiate. Once there I had a look at the contour map and headed back off the road to try and keep the climb to a minimum. A bit of Acacia in patches but a gradual walk with just a small steep section at the end. Last cache had 19 months of unlove and this one over 2.5 years (988 days to be accurate). Coordinates were spot on and cache logged and replaced and on to the next.TFTC Bingley3683

So getting a few more challenging caches around Mt Pilot was the aim today. Only a few caches found but some nice country traversed. Came straight down the hill from the Clearing to the Link Track (glad I didnt go up that way), then a couple of hundred metres along the road and then back into the bush. Found GZ quickly enough and was halfway on my first loop when I found the cache. TB drop as I signed the log and then a beeline back to Warden road (and another Montane Ochre) and back to the car.TFTC Bingley3683

So getting a few more challenging caches around Mt Pilot was the aim today. Only a few caches found but some nice country traversed. This was the main aim for the day - a nice 4/4 to start the afternoon. Was perfect weather for a walk and I parked at the hint and the day started great with a calling Spotted Quailthrush as I hit out of rye car (found the male sitting there a couple of hours later as I arrived back). The walk had a couple of dense patches of Callitris but nothing like the Acacia regrowth in other parts of the park. Spotted a Montane Ochre on the way (my first gif the park but saw two more later as well). At GZ I had a brief drink and admired the views. I had read past logs so had an idea of what needed to be done here. Fien I went and was trying to clear a fallen small tree on the way and looked back to realise I had gone past the cache (a hole further down looked tempting). In all grabbed in under five minutes of arrival so happy with that. Grabbed the TB (will drop another at a more frequently visited cache) and then on my way.TFTC Bingley3683 - another great part of the park to visit.

A hot sunny day predicted and lots of excess work hours so I had a half day to head up to Beechworth to look for butterflies and find a few geocaches. First stop was Lake Kerferd at which I failed to find the butterfly I was chasing. Then up the tracks to this cache that I had solved a while ago. Parked about 400 metres away and then headed down a very thick track (glad it wasnt gorse) to near the cache. Logging operations going on nearby but all good at the cache which was quickly found. The biggest small cache I reckon I have ever found.TFTC The Lost Wanderers
A hot sunny day predicted and lots of excess work hours so I had a half day to head up to Beechworth to look for butterflies and find a few geocaches. Next one on my journey and wound down some logging roads. Been here before with no luck. Today I searched where the GPS wanted me with no luck. And then I just used my geosenses and the cache was in the first spot I looked (and obvious it was too).TFTC The Lost Wanderers
A hot sunny day predicted and lots of excess work hours so I had a half day to head up to Beechworth to look for butterflies and find a few geocaches. Been here before but the walk down today was down a much less steep road (that track is a shocker). found my Forest Brown that was my goal gif the day (a new location) - they only fly for about three weeks and they are nearly done. At GZ this was a quick find - the geohound wondered where I had disappeared.TFTC Jamin Appleford
A hot sunny day predicted and lots of excess work hours so I had a half day to head up to Beechworth to look for butterflies and find a few geocaches. Last one for the day and back to avenge a DNF from a previous visit. Gave myself half an hour and first got distracted by a potential Brush Bronzewing and then by lots of Satin Flycatchers. At GZ took a lot of wandering around. Visited many spots that I had searched last time. Eventually found a spot that I hadnt (after many handfuls of gorse) looked and once I hit the right angle there it was (five minutes to spare). Signed and replaced as found. Lots of Bird Orchids (Chiloglottis) about to flower - this is such a nice patch of bush.TFTC BettyBoo3747

One more on the way down the hill after a glorious day on Buffalo. Parked at recommended spot and walked the short distance to GZ. Hunted a little but should have looked at the unburnt spot first as that is where the cache was. Log signed and on to Porepunkah for a quick beer.TFTC Jamin Appleford
This was my target gif the day - over 3.5 years with no finds. Not certain if there have been unlogged DNFs or just not visited. Visited on the way back after lunch and had read logs so started near the dam wall. Not many options and found a couple of spots that matched the hint. Shifted a lot of sawdust but didnt find anything (even with some judicious stick poking). Have sent a photo to the CO but will hopefully be back to have another look in the future.TFTC anyway Clever Monkey
Eldest geo kid did his last HSC exam yesterday and asked to head up to Buffalo for a visit. Who am I to say no. Weather was glorious and we walked out to the Reservoir. I hadnt downloaded this one but we had lunch only about 80 metres away. No information so I assumed would either be a skullracing cache (and a chance tucked Fien the bottom) or a Jamin Appleford (and probably up the top). The walk from Rocky River trail was fine and at the base I skirted the edge and had a Quick Look but the arrow was pointing to the top and so I knew this would be Bens doing. Scrambled up the back - only the last step was worrying (at least for the trip back down). Once up the top the cache was quickly found and in good condition (not quite a year from last time). Descent was safely achieved and in my way.TFTC Jamin Appleford

Back to Parramatta for a work meeting and a late flight and a late arrival. Time for one cache this evening - this one was out of action last visit. I assume the trans are now finally working - might go for a ride in the morning.A quick find here after ignoring the phone.TFTC gavingo4
Meeting doesnt start until 10:30 so plenty of time for a walk beforehand. This is new since last visit (though the trams are still not going - amazing) and so I walked from hotel n the morning sun. Numbers quickly calculated and off to GZ. Not many options here and though I was still 9m away cache was in the first spot I looked. Log signed and now time for breakfast TFTC gavingo4

Walked past today and couldnt see anything - had a quick climb and a check below but seems to be missingWill hopefully be back in the next few weeks with a replacement (reckon I will thatch this one to the tree a little higher)

An afternoon in Mt Pilot NP collecting a few caches and enjoying the spring weather and the glorious wildflowers.Wandered down from the Christmas cache through the bush. Lots of orchids here including Eastern Mantis orchid and the Salmon Sun Orchid (open on a sunny day). Quick find at GZ - a nice spot.TFTC Bingley3683
An afternoon in Mt Pilot NP collecting a few caches and enjoying the spring weather and the glorious wildflowers. After completing the AdLab at Barrys Falls time for a couple more. Getting across the creek probed the hardest part. Followed the motorbike track to near here and then approached the cache from the right side. All good with the cache.TFTC ILookedThere
An afternoon in Mt Pilot NP collecting a few caches and enjoying the spring weather and the glorious wildflowers.Last on the way back to the car (I got wet feet after this crossing Reedy Creek when the first log rolled). Interesting history and still some ruins here. Only one spot at GZ so down I went and the cache was quickly in hand. Was muddy and slimy but new log is fine inside its inner container.TFTC ILookedThere
An afternoon in Mt Pilot NP collecting a few caches and enjoying the spring weather and the glorious wildflowers.Back down the Old Coach Road to my main aim and to collect this one I have missed twice before. Lots of Acacia in flower here and another sun orchid (Trim this time). Certain I looked there at GZ before but clearly didnt dig like an aardvark. Cache all good.TFTC lillieb05
An afternoon in Mt Pilot NP collecting a few caches and enjoying the spring weather and the glorious wildflowers.Solved this when it came out and finally collected today. Lots of Hibbertia in flower along the track and some nice orchids as well. Quick find after a short walk (probably could have driven closer but never know with these tracks).TFTC The Lost Wanderers
An afternoon in Mt Pilot NP collecting a few caches and enjoying the spring weather and the glorious wildflowers.Parked at the start of the Bear Track and headed up the hill. Found the cave - what a cool spot. Got distracted by the Veronica perfoliata growing here. Over at Bartleys this is host for Rayed Blues which were flying a couple of weeks so I had a look around. No luck but an interesting spot. Back to cache - took me a few oases but the coordinates are surprisingly accurate and eventually found where I should have looked earlier. Can see why this one has a high percentage of FPsTFTC Bingley3683
Visited this cache a few weeks ago and saved for toddys souvenir. A nice easy drive in the forest today (was nice and dry) and a peaceful spot at GZ. The geohound and I enjoyed walking around the bush here - an impressive tree.TFTC Blacklegend

Missed the potential FTF as the app was not working when I visited.Oh well - one for next time
06-Oct-24
Back in town and time for one more cache. Collected WP1 yesterday and down to WP2 and collected the info needed. Pity WP3 is no longer needed because a significant site. Headed to GZ and actually took two looks to find the cache - smaller than what I was expecting.TFTC Blatherskite (and Brad&Janet for maintaining)
Too cold at Mt Buller to explore there so we dropped down to here for a picnic lunch and a short walk. At least when the sun came out it was warmish.Walked part of this track dk decided to get at least one cache in this series. Looked at the wrong tree on the wrong side of the river on the way up. On the way back I found the right tree (with a faint geotrail) and the cache was quickly located.TFTC BernieH
Too cold at Mt Buller to explore there so we dropped down to here for a picnic lunch and a short walk. At least when the sun came out it was warmish.Sorted this one before lunch. Tried the stump - nada. Tried the actual GZ but was put off by broken glass. Tried elsewhere but nothing. Back again and a feel up and the cache was revealed. Think I will try the walk from the top in the future.TFTC gmj3191
Stopped on the way into town to check out the war memorial and collect the cache. A quick find in an interesting location.TFTC BettyBoo3747
NSW long weekend and so a trip to Mansfield - never been here before (what a great town). After setting up the camper I walked around town in the rain to explore and collect some caches.Last one for the evening - solved under an awning, bought the bread I needed and then wandered further along to collect this one. All quiet in the rain (this could be busy on a sunny day) and a bit of wandering and the cache was located. Log signed and replaced as found.TFTC BernieH
NSW long weekend and so a trip to Mansfield - never been here before (what a great town). After setting up the camper I walked around town in the rain to explore and collect some caches.Collecting the points in the AdLab and thus was along the way. Rain started getting heavier as I walked past here.TFTC BernieH
NSW long weekend and so a trip to Mansfield - never been here before (what a great town). After setting up the camper I walked around town in the rain to explore and collect some caches.First one found after walking from the train station. Made that hard but found eventually - cache all good though log not bagged.TFTC Blatherskite (and Brad&Janet for maintaining)
NSW long weekend and so a trip to Mansfield - never been here before (what a great town). After setting up the camper I walked around town in the rain to explore and collect some caches.Collected the numbers and then visited the wetland and back to this one on the walk through town. GPS wanted me out there n the fenced off area but was walking along and then the big obvious cache was right there. There are a few unlogged signatures in this log.TFTC BernieH
First visit to Mt Buller and it was cold - four degrees and windy. Was hoping to do a few walks but hit the caches around the village and then back down the hill. AdLab app wasnt working so looked at some sculptures but didnt get any info and missed the FTF on the bonus cache. The aim of my trip up here. Have to say Buller was pretty dead (glad I got a coffee in Mansfield) but made collecting caches easy. Photo taken in the fog and the delay on the webcam made watching myself walk up here interesting. Glad to get this one - no idea how many are left but cant be a huge number.TFTC Rhinogeo
