Logs for Mr Walker

24-Nov-21
After being away from geocaching for almost a decade, having retired, moved house, and town, and got new email addressess, I finally managed to find and restore my original character. Thought I'd see what was available locally and, lo and behold, this one popped up next door, at the sporting complex. Literally a stones throw from our home. So I searched through my office, found my old Garmin, then had to pop up the shop to get some batteries. Took 20 minutes to find satellites and by then it was just on dusk. Up the lane, through the fence and, given the clue, the location was obvious.
Logged it and walked home. Was going to look for a couple more but it was getting dark. Will check them out soon.

Been a long time since I could get onto geocaching.com due to retiring and changing email address. Just want to thank the cachers who have maintained this and enjoyed it Great that such a small cache in such an exposed place has lasted so long.

Left my wife on the beach walking the dog with strict instructions to return in an hour. After spending some time fruitlessly looking for "Gross" I headed down the wrong dirt road but eventually found the spot. Of course i then bashed through bush for 100 metres on a stinking hot day watching for joe blakes, only to find i could have driven right up to it from the other road. Had to abandon the hunt for the other two nearby caches and just made it back to the pick- up spot before my wife did. Luckilly the rest of the afternoon was much more successful. Would have liked more time to check out the site, as it looked interesting.

No crow today but a nice easy find. Too short and old to gracefuly jump the pipe so did it ungracefully.

Getting too old and unfit for some of these. On the other hand, an afternoon's caching in the hot sun got me out and exercising LOL . Juggled gps, cache, and other bits with one hand, while hanging onto the tree with the other. Knew where it was as soon as i arrived at GZ , thanks to good coords.

Visiting here every few weeks I was pretty sure i knew where this one was, before even getting into town, but was unable to confirm due to a whole passel of muggles sitting on their porch. A beautiful spring sunday afternoon. Will give it one more go in stealth mode, then just go for it. Seems the occupants are well aware of the hide.

Must concur. There's nothin there.
Used two gps. Ground was clear and open all about. Nothing gross, not even dross.

A few minutes in the obvious locations had this found. I think other posters are right This is the site of the original monument to Bratten, which now exists across the road. I have researched as far as i can. There is a plaque and miniature plough in tumby bay from about 1934, but the sa monument archives only go up to 1935, and there is no record of either of the monuments out on the highway. Next time i will measure the plaques and bolts to see if they match. There is a reference to the original plaque being relocated, perhaps to the site at Tumby.

Found. Was on ground and fish was occupied by a swarm of bees, but i mangd to put it back where I assume it was meant to be. (pun intended) Nice to have an easy one after some of the hides today.

Coords were spot on. Saw geopile and knew where it was ,even without the clue. Quickest and easiest find of the day. TFTC

Went up to cummins for a day of garage saleing and managed to fit in a few geocaches. This was a little further out of town than the map suggested but an easy find. Too easy. It was out on the ground in the open. Tucked it back where I would have hidden it, as per clue. TFTC

Missed logging this a couple of weeks back with the great nieces. Funny thing is we looked for this a year back, and found a broken cache, goodies and stuff, right next to the coordinates. It looked like it had been torn apart by a dog or something.

I never logged that apparently. But then it wasnt a find, even though the girls grabbed a couple of small items. Any way, reading the on -going logs it seemed strange that no one else had logged it missing, so i had another look with one of the girls. Lo and behold, within a metre of where we found what we thought was geo trash, there was the cache; nicely tucked away.

Found it. Looked there first as the most logical place, and missed it, then spent some time nearby searching bushes, before returning.

With regret, I am going to archive this cache. The multis dont seem to work as well as I had hoped, and this was a very difficult one. I no longer have easy access to maintain the last stage, although the big cache is still there and accessible from the beach for those with the first stages completed. For now I will disable it because I will place a single cache where the original first stage was. That should provide a logistical challenge by itself.

I may have to check this again. It is very popular but does disappear every year or so.

Once gps settled down this was easy. Found a cache in an identical place at a nearby rural school and given the nature of the place, figured it had to be there.

After driving up the highway and realising it couldnt be there, we took the back road. Faced with a couple of objects fitting the clues description, it only took a minute to find, but 5 minutes to extract, as it was jammed in. HAve hidden one myself in an identical object, so that made it easier.

Strangely the map seemed a little out on this one, but otherwise all went well. Completed the loop of three caches as a detour on our way from the skull cave to the bandar fete at Poonindie.

Lived here 60 years. Had friends at the bottom of this road and it took geocaching to get us to drive along it. Wonderful view. As noted, a colony of ants inhabits the tin. Cleared them out as best I could, but may return.
Bandar used clue and went straight to hide. TFTC and the drive.

With the bandar navigating and me driving, tensions were high, but we pulled up right next to the cache and after working out which of several locations it might be, found it in a few minutes. TFTC

Hadn't realised my failure to log this, which we found soon after it was hidden. I am the person who took the tin and replaced it with another container, because my wife collects them. Logging some other finds, recently I realised I hadn't recorded this . My two great nieces found it during one of the school holidays, but I never got round to writing up a couple of the finds.

About 100 metres from my home it took the motivation of a visiting bandar to leave the skull cave and search this one out. Knowing the location well we didnt even take a gps (couldnt find any batteries anyway) and, after a brief scout around, the bandar located the cache with cries of glee which resonated through the deep woods. Thanks for getting me out of the cave.

Following a chance encounter in the local fish and chip shop, I had been told about this cache before it was published. I had what i thought was a good look one evening but couldnt find it. Today with one of the bandar getting bored and threatening everyone with poisoned arrows, I checked out the site and saw how to find it. Presented with the throne but no hints, it took the bandar, aged 13, about 2 seconds to locate and extract it.
Thank you to the hiders and to Kazar for a challenging location. Sitting on the throne and casually reaching for the cache seemed to work best

Had a quick look for this while out with the bandar. Couldnt spot anything from the track and, without a gps, didnt want to go bashing through the bush. But will have a look again as soon as I renew the batteries in one of my gps The maps are extremely accurate and enable one to find many caches even without a gps but the nature of this location prevented me from random searching.

Ps this hide is only a few metres from my first ever find, many moons ago. It is also close to the site of one of my first hides in the information hut, which unfortunately was repeatedly stolen by local kids, once they knew where it was hidden.

Well what can a fella say? A legend, albeit local, in his own life time. Thanks guys. Again, this was one of several caches explored without using a gps and relying on local knowledge. My great niece, who is staying with us for the weekend, found them all and was absolutely thrilled. She is still young enough to prefer "treasure" in her caches, but old enough just to enjoy the thrill and challenge of the hunt. I supplied "incentives" for each find, from the minor treasure room. She seems to have developed a knack for working out where mini caches are hidden, perhaps by thinking like a hider.

Old age must be making me forgetful. We have found this cache twice now, with different members of the bandar. The first time the ants were a problem. Next time we were forewarned, so they got me to extract it.

I used to drive past this every day before the bushfire of 05, as we owned a house and some land just up the road, which was burnt out in the fire. You can still see the garden/trees surrounding the site on the side of the hill, in the middle of the paddocks.

Have now had 3 looks for this, with bandar to help. Despite clue and logs, have not yet found, but may just be looking in the wrong places.

12-Jan-11
Great nieces weren't speaking to each other by this stage of their visit. Typical sisters Smile But one came along and helped me find this. They both lost their father at a very young age and so are more aware of death and cemeteries than most young people. Think we swopped a minor trinket. Thanks for the caches. The girls have really enjoyed their "treasure hunting."

Was as expected. No tool required, just a bit of a boost up for the youngest Bandar.
They were realy chuffed tha they had dechired the clue, and worked out the location, as well as retrieving the cache. Thanks for a neat hide. Good coords and clever clue.

Took bandar for a "treasure hunt" to add to stockpile in the minor treasure cave. They were very excited to find this one all by themselves, although competition is now so fierce it rivals the jungle olympics. Nice cache, Swapped some trinkets. Thanks Wheres Wolly for one of many "new" caches to challenge we inhabitants of the deep woods.

Had a couple of the bandar with me.They located coords and ground zero, with a little bit of effort (still learning) and worked out the names relevance. We coulnt see it (maybe not tall enough) but figure we know where it is. Will have another look tomorrow.

Younger of the bandar pointed out to me that I was basically standing on the cache as my eagle eyes probed the undergrowth. Swapped some trinkets.Thank you for providing so many caches with which too entertain my grandnieces for some time to come.

Had a quick look for this. Last stop taking bandar home to parents.. Hadn't read clue or probably would have found it. Very bitey ants discouraged the bandar. Come down here quite often to walk devil so will look again soon.

Easy find with a couple of the bandar. They are getting good at this.. The 12 year old took us righ to the spot and worked out the name. The 13 year old found the cache in about 2 mins. Both were thrilled, and so was I. I think this might be my 200 th cache.

As one can see from reading the logs, there is a difference between burying and covering. This should not be buried, but it can be covered (with leaf litter for example.) I appreciate that may blow away and leave the cache exposed, but buried caches can be impossible to find. If you find it exposed, cover it with some "natural camouflage," but dont actually bury it in the sand. Thanks.

Good coords. Was out in open, so left covered a bit with leaves. Both log books too wet to write in . I would have dried them out, but that will take several hours in the sun and today I had to get to Lincoln.

Very accurate coords. Drive past here several times a week but never needed to make a pit stop. Easy find TNLN TFTC.

After a break of a couple of years ive decided there are so many new caches around my local area that I just have to find some. Today I had to drive to Lincoln, so mapped out a few along the way. This was my first. Excellent coords. Spot on. TNLN TFTC

ROFLMAO After black stump i though,t I know where the old ponindie church is, so proceeded straight there. Coords were all wrong, so checked the map. OH thats the NEW Poonindie church Smile

Went there and decided coords had to be in grounds. Was a bit wary stepping on hallowed ground but as the sunlight hadnt zapped me already, figured Id be OK. Once I got to coordinates, hiding spot was obvious TNLN but TFTC

Replaced cache. Not the most wonderful contents, but it is now in its original location, and ready for use.

09-Oct-10
Ok this is now back in business.Flood really had hit hard. Covered with a little camouflage which is needed to keep it out of site. Same location as before.

Going to temp disable Floods probably washed this away from new location and it will need replacing.

Im going to convert this to a single stage cache. The final location is so nice it is worth keeping but the second stage seems to be a bit tricky. Middle cache is still there, but depending on conditions can be hard to find.

I go past here on the way down to coffins, fairly regularly. Will try and replace the container soon .

24-Sep-10
Congratulations.. I'm down here a lot and sometimes i cant find it. It is truly a tricky hide in several ways

My apologies. I thought id disabled this one. I found the container emptied and thrown away some distance from the cache site after some people had done bush preservation work in the area. All the comics were gone. Ill try and disble it for now. and see if i can find some more comics to fill it again.

LOl Due to family/work circumstances, I havent had much time for geocaching lately. Some of my containers would be 4-5 years old. Might update the container in the holidays, but dont know where Ill ever find more kewpie dolls. Very Happy

Sadly this cache seems to have gone missing, probably due to natural causes rather than theft. I have disabled it for now, so no one else climbs all over the cliff face searching 4 it.

23-Sep-10
I will have a look at thisi n the holidays. One of my favourite caches, (And a beautiful spot) so i will replace it if it has washed away.
