Logs for NinjaTortoise

29-Nov-24
A quick find with icw. I walked around one side of a thicket and icw down the other, where he spotted the goods. Tftc.A visit here would be far from boring if you didn't observe the message in the graphic signs.

Another cliff-hanger found with icw. Tftc.

Found with icw. I admit to doing a little stick prodding before picking this one up. Tftc.At a nearby pond bloke frogs were singing to attract lady amphibians so I made recordings for FrogID and FrogCensus.

Found with icw who did all the calculations and finding. Tftc.

28-Nov-24
Found with icw. We've noted this cache every time we drove past and today we decided the stop and look for it. I can now appreciate why this has a 3.5 difficulty rating, but we prevailed after a short search. Tftc.

24-Nov-24
Found with icw. The checker reported: User has 23 finds (10 needed).Filters:( sizes (Regular) , county (Maroondah) , country (Australia) ). Tftc.

Found with icw. The Challenge Checker result for me was: User has 219 finds (100 needed).Filters:( county (Maroondah) , country (Australia) ). Tftc.

Found with icw. The checker reported: User has 70 finds (20 needed).Filters:( terrains (1.5) , difficulties (1.5) , county (Maroondah) , country (Australia) ). Tftc.

Found with icw. The Challenge Checker result was: User has 76 finds (30 needed) Filters:(attributeFilter(Bicycles), county (1=Maroondah) , country (1=Australia) ), but I did all these walking as I don't cycle. Tftc.

Found with icw. The Challenge Checker reported that I have found six of these remarkable caches in Maroondah - that equates to a lot of enjoyment. Tftc.

21-Nov-24
Found with icw who predicted the cache would be where we might find 'Litoria ewingii' and he was correct. The log is full and I signed our names on what appeared to be a blank space, but where I suspect a previous signature had faded away. Tftc and a fav point for the container and its placement.

19-Nov-24
Found with icw. The inside of the plastic bag was wet so I dried it out before replacing the log. I liked the cache guardian. Tftc

Found with icw. To use the hint I suggest an Irish Wolfhound might be appropriate. Tftc

Not an easy find with icw, as a Banksia bough had fallen on the cache. Fortunately icw noticed a corner of the container & we pulled the foliage off to reveal the generously sized cache. We took time to camouflage it before we left. Tftc

Found with icw at this commemoration of an industrial disaster. I hope that mining conditions and safety are better today. Tftc.

Found with icw who spotted it on arrival. I left him to sign the log for us while I sent in a Snap, Send, Solve report. The road sign warning of a single-lane bridge had been knocked down and was not visible to approaching drivers. Tftc.

Found with icw who predicted what the surprise would be. Tftc

18-Nov-24
Found with icw who claimed line honours with his sighting of the cache guardian. Tftc.

A quick find with icw. The Archies Creek Dairy Produce Co building still dominates the village. It was an important producer of butter and other diary products and closed in 1983 after 97 years of continuous operation. Tftc and the visit to an important part of Gippsland history.

icw and I spent some time collecting the information to supply answers to the posed questions. We also did some supplementary research on what this installation commemorates. Tftc

Found with icw who found the dry approach to the cache. This was a lot better than the route I suggested that would have required gum boots. At GZ icw spotted the cache guardian after a few minutes. Tftc.

A quick find with icw. I love the cache guardian. Tftc.

Found with icw. After a bit of wandering around I found myself leaning next to the cache guardian. Tftc.

Found with icw. It was great to see this piece of machinery preserved and appreciate the importance of the rail line that ran to Wonthaggi. Tftc.

15-Nov-24
Found with icw. We had already solved 'Put them together #2' with a hint, so I used the same method to get a tick from Certitude. The place was nice and quiet on a weekday. Tftc.

Found with icw after some confusion with the co-ordinates. Our numbers passed the checksum but the GPS signal took us to an unlikely place near the library. We decided to enter the bibliothque an asked a librarian to help us. She directed us to the appropriate bookshelf and we quickly found what we were looking for. Tftc.

14-Nov-24
Found with icw. The 'before' photo of what is now a functioning wetlands showed what a wasteland was there previously. A bird, which I suspect it was a juvenile Buff-banded rail, whizzed across our path but was too quick for me to identify it. Tftc.

Found it with icw. After three queries I had an idea of the general locality. Once there we ricocheted around until achieving the 25 metre proximity message. The co-ordinates were accurate and the hint directed my gaze in the correct direction. TftWIG.

Found with icw. My first ideas for this puzzle were way too complicated. icw asked a previous finder for a hint, then the solution presented itself. Tftc.

Found with icw. It's difficult to image what this location was like during early European settlement. Now with the plantings of indigenous trees, shrubs and under-storey local birds and frogs are returning. Tftc.

11-Nov-24
Found with icw after a long diversion as one of the UV numbers was a bit dodgy. With the CO's help we input the correct numeral and found the cache, which has a guardian in the form of a hen Magpie. We also spotted many Common bronzewings, two Kookaburras and heard several Spotted pardalotes. Tftc.

10-Nov-24
Found with icw. We also found several golf balls a very long way from the fairway. The music in my mind was not something from Bilbo or Frodo. I recently watched a video of the Sacconi quartet playing Ravel's only string quartet and their spirited rendition of the second movement has been haunting me ever since. Tftc.

07-Nov-24
Found with icw (eventually). I should have taken notice of the terrain rating as I made things difficult for myself. I did find a pair of interesting artifacts -- lightning protection testing points. I suppose such a structure would attract the attention of the Van de Graaff accelerator that masquerades as a storm cloud. I returned to my favourite past-time of staring into space and spied a rocket ship that I had previously missed. icw got it down and after the official log signing I returned Buzz Lightyear's vessel to the heavens. Tftc and a fav point.Incidentally on arriving at GZ I found the ghost of the original Launch pad cache. I'll contact the CO and see if they want it returned.

05-Nov-24
Found with icw who spotted this clever hide. Looks like a fire went through here several seasons ago. Trees and shrubs are blackened trunks, but the under-storey is thriving. Tftc.

Found with icw. This substantial cache was easily spotted as it didn't have any camouflage. After we signed the log I made sure it was better hidden. Tftc.

Found (out in the open) with icw. We saw the cache guardian on the way in, but as it was a large Eastern grey kangaroo buck we wanted to be sure we were welcome. I dried out the container as best I could and gave the damp log a zip lock plastic bag. Tftc.

Found with icw. I thought I recognised this puzzle, but I was wrong. A tried another couple of ideas over a few days without success. Then one morning when I was thinking of nothing in particular a possible solution materialised, but could it be that simple? It was and I soon had a string of numbers the geochecker liked. It was great to find such a venerable cache that has been around since 2006. Tftc.

30-Oct-24
Found with icw after a long journey through space. I had to take a break from solving the puzzle as I had motion sickness. When I returned to the fray I found the direction that had been eluding me and I was soon rewarded with final co-ordinates. What a wondrous sight awaited us at GZ. Tftc and a fav point.

Found with icw. I solved this puzzle many months ago and was waiting to be in the vicinity for collection. Lots of muggles were wandering around, most with a canine in tow, but they paid no attention to what we were doing. Tftc.

27-Oct-24
Found with icw. Nothing made sense to me about the clues I had collected until 'Tansy' showed me how. While at GZ I pulled out about 20 ivy seedlings. This European import is yet another threat to our bushland. Tftc

26-Oct-24
Another quick find with icw. I love the hint. Tftc.

A quick find with icw. We didn't have a pooch in tow, but it we had this walk around would have been dog heaven. Tftc.

Found with icw. Plenty of sniffs for 'Canis familiaris' here. Tftc.

A quick find with icw. The cache was all too obvious, so when we had signed the log I added camouflage to the container. Tftc.

Found with icw. A dog walker was 'doing the right thing' with the poo bag so we sat down to await their progression. icw asked where GZ was and I replied that I thought we were there. Tftc.

We searched around where the GPS signal was pointing and icw made the find. Tftc.

Found with icw. The cache was too obvious so I applied camouflage after we had signed the log. A cricket match was nearing its conclusion as we found the cache. This appeared to be a mixed comp and all players were thoroughly enjoying the game. Great to see! Tftc.

We spent a long time trying to find this one. Perhaps a child would have found it far quicker than we did. Past logs helped greatly telling us to look on the opposite side of the path, but it still eluded us. After a final inspection before giving up icw made the find! Tftc.

22-Oct-24
Found (eventually) with icw. I had a few false alarms early on as my headlamp picked up a couple of surveyor's reflectors. When we arrived at the true start of the starry path I notice a pair of amber reflectors. When I walked in their direction they suddenly jumped to the ground and ran off -- it was a young Brushtail possum. Following the true path, collecting the needed numbers as we went, we arrived at GZ. icw couldn't tone down his headlight enough to enter the combination so we decided to return in daylight to sign the log.On the way back to the car we collected recordings for FrogID and Frog Census. A chorus of my favourite frogs was calling -- the Striped marsh frog. I love their genus name of Limnodynastes as it translates as 'Lord of the marsh'.

13-Oct-24
A walk back in time with icw. Earth geocaches always remind me of the age of the ground I walk on. Thank you for the opportunity to stop and appreciate this special place.
