Logs for idealist

20-Nov-06

Found in company with Razanda, who actually stumbled across it. We came in from the 6ft track, which was just as well, because we couldn't locate the carpark when we looked. Even then we almost missed the final track, only stumbling across the rockpile on the way back from trying to find the carpark.

This is a great spot, with a magnificent view, a lovely cool breeze on the day, and few muggles. Perfect! Thank you. TNLNSL... Smile

Nice little spot, thanks. Smile Pity the landmark itself is suffering from some neglect. Found in company with Razanda, who located it first. Took pulley, left Free2go lanyard. SL.

I know it's been said before but this is a beautiful place, beautifully maintained. I've been there before and it's a pleasure just to be there. Found easy enough, nobody else around, so relaxed for a while in the shade of the trees. Thanks for this one. TNLNSL. Smile

02-Apr-06
This was my second attempt on this one, and found it okay, with the help of Razanda. Smile Log is too wet to write on, so couldn't. Everything is wet. Tried to dry out as best possible, but couldn't stay too long, and muggles around. Looks like previous finders have not been folding over the top before fastening, and water just runs in. Would like to have taken TB but might not be caching for a little while. TNLN, and thanks. Smile

28-Mar-06
Nice and easy, but inconspicuous all the same. Thanks! Smile

24-Mar-06
Coordinates seemed slightly off but easy find anyway. Neat idea! Many muggles about, so had to wait some time to get it and then to replace it. TNLNSL. Log is full. Lovely spot well worth a visit. As usual, climbed straight up the hill then discovered at least two easier ways... sigh. Smile

23-Mar-06
Found in company with Razanda - his find, really. Nice easy find. TNLNSL. Thanks. Smile

15-Mar-06
Lovely spot, aptly named cache. Had to hunt a bit, but found ok. Cache had some water in it, so dried out as well as possible, then replaced. Had no swaps so TNLNSL. Thanks. Smile

03-Feb-06
Took my son on his second geocache, and once again, he found it quite quickly. He's better at this stuff than I am... Smile
Mozzies very irritating, and so we left quite quickly. Was annoying to see how muggles had trashed the lookout with their McGarbage... Fantastic views!

Took my son along to show him what the game was about, and he found it within seconds! Had a look at the creek with bathers enjoying themselves, turtles, fish and birds, lovely place. Smile

02-Feb-06
My first visit to Townsville, and suffering from the heat and humidity, and getting scratched by the bush, I didn't read the clue sheet properly, and missed it. Oh well, if I ever return I'll pick it up next time... [B)]

20-Oct-05
GPSr didn't seem to show its usual pinpoint accuracy on this one, but assisted by razanda, found the cache quite easily. The photos are well done, and worth a look. Had a few good laughs. Smile Took nothing, left shark, signed log.

18-Oct-05
Forgot to take clue sheet, so not entirely sure what I was looking for. Looked around for about 15 mins before giving up. Nice location though...

Around the island, and straight up a near-vertical goat track. Seems to be the only way in, as far as I could see. Fairly easy find after that. Took nothing, left octopus. Signed guestbook... Smile

17-Oct-05
Interesting spot, nice views, but didn't find cache. Spent about 15 mins looking, but too many nasty, spiky plants took much of the fun out of it, and I lost interest.

29-Sep-05
Was going past and noticed this one come up on the GPS screen. Had to have a look. Very impressed with the hidey-hole. Someone went to a LOT of trouble with this one. Would have been a lovely spot before all the development went in. TNLNSL.

27-Sep-05
Took the long way round, and an interesting walk on a nice day, accompanied by razanda. But no cache. Did everything but dig. Didn't realise it was a multi at first, but no clues found anyway.

This is a lovely spot for a cache (keep a hold of the geokiddies), and this park must be one of the best kept secrets of the south coast. Just beautiful.
TNLNSL.

Didn't find it. Again. Very embarrassed. Again. Seems to be so easy for most, but I just don't get it. On the other hand it's a lovely spot, spoilt only by used syringes etc. (I removed and trashed nearly a dozen). Maybe I'll try again later...

13-Sep-05
Second time lucky on this one. Teamed up with Razanda in early morning, and approched it from two directions. (last attempt was end of day, hot and tired...) Well hidden! Also a little easier with a newer model GPSr. Took photos, otherwise TNLN. Smile

Wanted to make this a double act with nearby Linda's, but no luck. Made like mountain goats for an hour, went around in circles, one of the party slipped off a nearby rock into creek (no injuries) and finally gave up. Nice location, worth a visit for its own sake, but not geokiddie friendly, and road is gravel and (presently) only just suitable for 2WD vehicles. Mind the cyclists and hikers on the road...

Wonderful spot for a cache, fantastic views, not too far from main road, magic! Took submarine sticker, left tweety bird's car. Smile

06-Sep-05

I'm leaving Canberra for the mountains soon, and wanted to get in a couple more before I left, so decided to make Sparkie and Cache on the hill a double act. As usual, muggins came up the wrong way, and nearly expired on the hill, but it was well worth the effort. Smile Nice cache, TNLNSL, spent some time admiring the late afternoon views and the beautiful location, chatted with a couple of kangaroos and kookaburras, as well as the odd fitness fanatic on my way down the easier way. Nice one, thank you very much! Smile

What a brilliant idea! Initially had trouble connecting the idea of a cache with the site, but really very easy to find, top marks. Smile TNLNSL

05-Sep-05
[ Second time lucky, after picking up an extra hint (thanks!). I didn't mind going back, as I found this such a lovely little forest to wander around in. Smile I have decided the sun was in my eyes last time. Wink Was on my way home from somewhere, so didn't have any swaps. TNLNSL. And as it says, it's hidden in plane(sp) view! No need to climb into the undergrowth. ] According to my gpsr, there appears to be a 10 metre error in the position. But if I say which direction, it will make it WAY too easy!

29-Aug-05
Nice magical place, very pleasant place to waste some time. But no joy. GPSr took me to 0 metres (quoted 5m accuracy), and found a space where it could have been, but wasn't. Lots of trees fitting the description. Got a funny look from a park ranger type person, but kept looking for an hour. Approached from all directions, moved branches, did everything except dig. Finally gave up, vowing to bring metal detector, pick and shovel next time... And maybe new glasses...?

Smarting from defeat on "In Plane View", muggins, as usual, headed straight up the hill from the car park. Arrived near death, [xx(] but recovered to find cache fairly easily. Glad to mark THAT one off. Forgot swaps, so TNLNSL. Took photos, including radar and multitudes of other antennas. Great location for them. Intrigued by the whooshing sound the radar makes as it turns in the wind. (I'm easily amused...) Was somewhat miffed to find a bloke older than me (I'm 58) powering up the hill I'd nearly died climbing, gave me a cheerful greeting as he passed... Red Face

27-Aug-05
Didn't find it this time. Unsure whether the lady of the lamp led me astray, or my arithmetic sucks, or maybe I'm just blind. Will try again later... Sad

Quite an easy find, ideal if you're showing a geo-newbie how it's done. Smile Like the camouflaged box. I wasn't quite sure where to write in the log, entries all over the place, perhaps it should be replaced? Thank you... TNLNSL.

Walked up on a(nother?) blustery afternoon, walked around in circles for a while, unable to shake the feeling that I was on some farmer's property; and as the clouds thickened, the wind got colder and my GPSr kept switching itself off, (intermittent fault) decided "one more sweep" and found it. Lovely! Smile Thank you. TNLNSL.

17-Aug-05
Absolutely perfect afternoon, and what a beautiful place. Smile Didn't pay attention to the warnings and had to keep stopping to catch my breath. That last 100m (going direct) is a killer! But well worth the effort. Would be a great place for a picnic lunch. Once again, didn't have anything to swap, so TNLN. Have only been doing this stuff a week or two, will have to get myself organised and start carrying stuff for swaps. Thanks Spindoc Bob, nice one. Smile TNLNSL

Walked past this three times before I noticed it. Nicely camouflaged. Had about 1cm of water in it, so emptied, drained and left in sun for a while. Only second find ever, so TNLN. Smile

08-Aug-05
Couldn't find this one. Still learning how to drive GPS. Many scratches, splinters, much sweating later, gave up and vowed to return. Red Face

06-Aug-05
My second ever attempt at a geocache (first one successful), I struck out on this one. Sad My GPS was all over the place (still got L plates on) and I gashed my leg on a dead tree. Not happy, Jan... But having read how easy some found it I'll try again later.

Very embarrassed not to find this one. Lovely tidy location, nice place to be, anyway. Will return. Red Face

My first ever geocache, using a friend's old GPS with no instruction manual (never used one before), pretty happy about that. TNLN Smile
