been passin past it all of my life. wondered why it was sitting vacant. guess i know. guess it isn't as bad as the westing house site.

Site of a Georgia Historic Marker.
there are 51 unknown and 1 known soldier, and 1 negro attendant.
see pic for complete reading.
names:
J.R. Brown, CO D, 2 KY CAV CSA Jan 22, 1864.
Unknown 1
Unknown 2, yes there was another close by.

these graves are not pointed at the top, presumably they were moved from some other location--to include them in the larger graveyard.

26-Oct-05
Atlanta Highway, Athens, Georgia.

i think they tested it when i was a kid.

13-Oct-05
Athens, Georgia
On top of the entrance breezeway.
This vane is unique, due to it's depiction of the Sandy Creek Nature Center logo--a frog and cattails. There should not be any more in existence, and i am sure that a local artist made it for them.

The SCNC, and companion Sandy Creek Park are great places to visit and provide infinate outdoor recreation opportunities.

The Yellow Submarine
[i believe this is what it is called]

Athens, Georgia
A staple in town for years, it has had many articles about it and pictures of it published.

rumor has it that the gun on top can fire cherry bombs. i think that it used to move.

i found it parked at these coords. it was there 2 days in a row, so he must be living there now.

there as a fleet of similar 'styles' around. see the art car waymark section for more in this area.

Athens, Georgia: this has need there for years. not my kind of restruant, but others say it is great.

i got lucky and the parking lot was empty (not open for the day yet), so i could try to 'crop' the one car out.

10-Oct-05
Located in the Beech Haven Babtist Church parking lot in Athens, Georgia--on West Broad St.

It is informatonal for those who want to sign up for "upward" basketball and cheerleading.

i believe that upward is a program for children that are at risk.

05-Oct-05
driving through a neighborhood in
Thomson, Georgia (ga)
looking for a cache (please mr post man, i think) when i saw this. ive been looking for a month.

this is the first one ive seen big enough to classify.

Name of mountain or hill that the tower is on?
Name of the tower?

33, 28.471 N; 82, 15.94 - 468ft +Elevation of Tower Unknown

I do not think the tower is manned, but there is a Georgia Forestry Commission station on the site.
At the intersection of Wrightsboro Road and Ranger's Loop East of Augusta, Georgia

02-Oct-05
Passed by this many times--this time on the way to Augusta.

located off hwy 441(or 129) just south of farmington, georgia.

i did not get a pic of a headstone or the address. will get on the way home.

no address to be found. it was raining, and a long run from the road to the graves.

27-Sep-05
Ok, i had to do this on the fly, a car was coming in a high traffic area.

in Maysville/Jefferson, Georgia--just south of Hurricane Shoals Park on Hwy 82.

i saw it in the road, had to pull a Uie. snapped pic of him in the road, my coords, grabbed him and crossed the road.

no reason to be in the road, the stream obviously has a lot of room under the road. most likely a tributary stemming from the shoals.

26-Sep-05
Forgot this one was there. saw it once when i was little.

**Blue Star Memorial Highway GCG Spencer Park on US 441 Business in Commerce
(from cache waypoint gc4166 link)

My friend owns a house in maysville, and is a member of the community club. through that membership, she has learned that Maysville has the highest concentration of historic structures in the smallest area--in Georgia at least.

The address on the historic register states E/W Main & Homer. Pics are of N/S Main, and the surrounding areas. My friend had heard of Homer St, she didnt know which one it was; since this is 'the MAIN drag' in town, this intersection has to be within the boundary specified by the register.

if you live in the area, Maysville is having their fall festival this weekend (sept 30-nov 2, 2005--about the same time each year), you can learn a lot more by seeing it for yourself.

25-Sep-05
Maysville/Jefferson, Georgia (30558)
Hurricane Shoals Park

This was during the Art in the Park Festival this year. Not as good as in past years, but it was sunday--and there were a lot of festivals around this weekend.

If youve never been, you should go. NO PETS or FISHING, but 'swimming' among the rocks is at your own risk. There are lots of other historic structures, gathered from throughout Jackson County.

Gainesville, Georgia
Poultry Capitol.
Hispanic Capitol.
Coincidence?

i dont know much of the history of the town.

Hall of Fame for the UGA Athletic programs--building also houses the Athletis Department Offices.

Free Admission!!!

Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall
University of Georgia
Hershel Walker, 1982

you should all know who he is. and if you have never been in the 'butt-sMehre' building, you must visit. there is more to Dawg sports than football, but it has quite a history overshadowing the other sports.

i have the Hershel pics, and a tease for the other--for another to find.

in finding cache GC5152 i found these markers.

of the two markers with names on them, only one was killed in action, but since the VFW post (2872) in Athens, Georgia is named after them both i would assume that they would both classify this way. the pow/mia marker is also a good indication.

for pictures of the plane, see noted cache waypoint.

the area is a little weird here. might be called any of the following: Athens, Redstone, South Jackson, Arcade, among others - Georgia

might not be gas, could be steam. i know nothing about them.

the store moved from a smaller location up the road. they had this, and another 'rubber' tractor "on display". i was glad to see that they moved to the new store. this is a rather rural area, there are surely more close by--and i bet at least 1 will work.

Athens, Georgia

although they moved, only up a few doors, and expanded services, this has been my barber shop for years.

the old place (in the corner) was an old school shop from the 1940-50s.

the pole has always worked.

Athens, Georgia
Cleveland Road Elementary School
Clarke County School District

It isn't a museum, but it does have signage--included.

i work at the district warehouse. there are like 4 schools that have this floorplan, every one has a different entrance--this one is definately more of an impact.

Since being constructed in 1997, the pendulum has become 'off'. This is most likely due to shoddy school engineering. I also believe that the 'domino placer' knows exactly how to do it.

Athens, Georgia.

on the temporarily defunct ronnie hill ford dealership. long story, read the papers.

at least they are flying it at half mast, for the hurricane victoms.

Mitchell - Fields VFW post #2872, Athens, Georgia

i have no idea what the maodel of this is.

i'll guess that it is a korean/vietnam era plane.

been here all my life.

Bear Creek Resirovir (not a river, but a natural water source) Jackson County, Georgia

Constructed to provide water for neighboring counties (for a fee of course!), and recreation opportunities.

After 2001, the recreation plans were put off in lieu of homeland security. (aside: of course the terrorists want to blow up this 'small', out-of-the-way resirvior) they are beginning to open more opportunities (public boat ramp, and expanding 'fishable' bank area).

Winder, Georgia

"This steam locomotive was presented to the City of Winder and Barrow County in 1959 by the Seaboard Air Line Railroad Company. It was placed here as a permanent exhibit in memory of the important service engines of this type rendered to the country. Built in 1820, it operated for a number of years on the Gainsville Midland Railroad. At the time of its retirement in 1959, No. 208 was one of the last steam locomotives in service in this section of the country."

Sorry, but i do not know what you mean with the wheels. I would guess you can tell that information from the pics.

Winder, Georgia
Gainesville Midland
#208

This is a Georgia Historical site. the plaque will provide more information than i can--or i could regurgitate it for you.

this has been on display my whole life.

as evident in the pics, the sun shines on the opposite side, which inturn means that it is not in as good of condition as this side.

pics galore........

Located in Athens, Georgia (Clarke County)--about 6 blocks from downtown, near the Prince Ave/Barber St intersection [red light]--is 'Fire Station #2'. (coords for the 'fire truck door' are 33 57.635, 83 23.183)
It is now the home of a hair salon and the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation.

This station also happens to be a old firehouse (gc7973).

attached are pic of the front w/ gps, w/o gps, close up of truck door, view of right/left sidewalks, rear of building, and Heritage sign.

Athens, Georgia
These statues are to raise money, using the University of Georgia mascot UGA. visit www.weletthedawgsout.org for more information. The figures are about 3 feet wide and about 5 feet long, standing about 3.5 feet. These were auctioned off/commissioned a few years back--seems like it was/is a fad for every 'city' to have their own fiberglass figure [sandy springs near Atlanta, has turtles].

during this geocaching run, to grab lunch, i stopped at 4 different figures (2 were just accross the road from one another). i am only claming one, leaving more for others.

attached is Dawgustus
