Logs for jandals

23-Jan-11
No luck today despite a good ferret around.

10-Jan-11
Hot afternoon stroll with the odd geocached thrown in. Lovely spot.

At times the GPS insisted we step off the cliff! Lovely lonesome place.

09-Jan-11
Came back with help this time, the manly sort that can hoist weighty things skywards. Good fun.

08-Jan-11
Most exciting and intrepid for us beyond young and reckless folk. Most surprised to get muggled. Glorious afternoon.

07-Oct-10
Found the dim lighting in the museum quite challenging for my aging eyesight. Glorious afternoon for a stroll and thought that the co-ords were one tree off. Or did the eyesight fail me after all?

A quick visit to the Paua House before closing and then into the park for a sunny afternoon stroll. The hint did the trick. Thanks for the entertainment.

05-Oct-10
Brilliant day for a drive to Akaroa for the first time and quite surprised to discover a mini Queenstown. A fun road in a very low spec hire car, mostly just gave up and left it in 1st gear! Coming back soon to do the Banks Peninsula Track. Thanks for the motivation to make it all the way out there - stunning spot.

04-Oct-10
Was a bit naughty and went for this despite DOCs best efforts to deter after the quakes. Needless to say, did not venture into any of the buildings. Glorious spot to watch the big ships go by.

14-Jul-10
Found on walk over Cleeve Common to Winchcombe. Track to the hideaway was not marked on my map so felt a bit self conscious. Thank you for the entertainment on my holiday from New Zealand.

11-Apr-10
Whoops! Fumbled the find and managed to push it back too far. Retrieved the container minus it's lid. Have put back slightly higher up. I hope someone makes it water tight again before the log gets damp. Very sorry.

10-Apr-10
One last cache before high tailing it to the plane back to Auckland. Had a blast on the A-Z series - I wonder when we'll be back again to continue the mission.

A steep wee climb to a great seat amongst the thyme. Quite hypnotic watching the traffic on the bridge coming straight towards you.

Took a little while this one. First the GPS sent us off in the wrong direction (not sure why it hadn't uploaded correctly) and then the Crocs turned out to not be the perfect shoes for rock clambering but slow and easy got us there in the end. Great day for sitting on a hot rock taking in the vista.

Puzzle initially gave us a headache but nothing an analgesic couldn't fix and then we were away.

Found it and then lost it (see maintenance log). Followed this cache with lunch and a stroll at old Cromwell town - most convivial.

Both a cache and a secret beach discovered. TFTC.

Got some dry spots in the garden so always interested in ideas for plants that might work.

09-Apr-10
Perfect day for a walk up through the mining remains to the Nevis road. This one had us stumped for quite a few minutes - a very subtle hide.

Back for the code from when we forgot it 3 days ago - on foot this time via Carricktown. Day even more glorious. Walked along the water race back to the Young Australian mine (which may have been naughty - don't know), but it was most enjoyable - quite hypnotic.

Were relishing the particularly warm calm day on the walk up only to be blasted by a chill breeze in the Young Australian gully which reinforced the bleakness of it all. Easy find and a fascinating piece of history.

07-Apr-10
What a ridiculously perfect day today to do the skyline track!
Lake Wanaka blue as blue and Mt Aspiring rising above it all.
Nabbed the cache, no problems.
Note to others: On a fine day, this spot has the best view in New Zealand.

06-Apr-10
Obvious place did not yield a cache. Perhaps it is not in the obvious place.

We do enjoy a good nosey around a cemetery and this one is particularly old and interesting. Those poor old Scallys!

A quick find and a few quick snaps before onward and upward to the main event.

Amazing drive over the tops on a glorious autumn day. In fact, so overtaken were we by the view that we forgot to note the code. D'oh!

This is the sort of cache we love - amusing and we'd never have discovered the treat otherwise. Great for travellers who want to see more than what's in Lonely Planet.

15-Jan-10
Stage Two had us stumped and wondering if the historical billboard was new since it didn't seem to make reference to the questions. Had a good go using deduction anyway, but no luck. Nice day for a wander around the park.

Can still drive all the way there despite tree branch across the road. Interesting place for a bit of a looksee. TFTC.

With a wee hint from the author we were finally onto it. Good puzzle which, although we tried, cannot be solved using Google Earth Street View. Easy find to finish. TFTC.

Had to be patient while muggle finished inhaling her death stick, but fun find after that trying to not be spotted. TFTC.

13-Jan-10
Nice spot, lovely river, warm afternoon - thanks!

Surprised to find we were the first here! Fairly intrepid walk-in required, not completely convinced we could have kept our feet dry, but good fun and a fantastic spot!
Note to those going higher towards Scott's Knob and wondering how to get out of this huge steep-walled basin - you take the track up the right hand side (true left) of the main stream, along a fairly exposed ridge, then around to your right and up scree slopes to a notch in the ridge to the left of the main peak. Then sidle to the summit on the other side of the ridge. Allow 6 hrs to the top from Greig's Hut, perhaps 4 coming down. Be careful.

12-Jan-10
Nice easy find, interesting spot. Thanks!

11-Jan-10
Alley somewhat inhospitable with danger tape and broken glass. Damp weather so didn't try very hard before giving up.

This is what I love most about geocaching - being taken to interesting little places that you would likely never discover on your own. Weather a bit damp so only lingered long enough to nab the cache and a plum. TFTC.

Thought we'd pick up this one during our run but weren't successful. Brown hills in the sun with looming dark grey skies to the south made for some wonderful photography.

Head duck was most insistently trying to convey some message of great importance, but we found the cache on our own.

Quite an arresting and somewhat amusing sight. Thanks for the entertainment.

10-Jan-10
Nice to have a cache within walking distance of our holiday stay with parents. Always interesting to read gravestones and wonder about their lives. Surprising number of muggles - the church is a signposted toilet stop!

07-Jan-10
Picked this up at the end of an excellent tramp in the Red Hills. Said to GPS operating assistant, "Are you looking out for caches?", who on checking realised we were only 5 metres away. Whew. It was most disappointing walking right past the cache on the way up from Inwoods Lookout 3 days before and GPS assistant would have been in much trouble if he had done it again. Easy find on an interesting new track. TFTC.

04-Jan-10
Forgot to keep GPS operator focused and in our battle with the wind on the first day of our tramp managed to wander right on past the cache. Not game to drop back several hundred metres to get it, so I guess this one remains on our list. Did however manage to drop my black plastic glasses case somewhere on the climb so happy to be emailed if anyone picks them up - please forgive any typing errors in this log owing to consequent blindness.

11-Oct-09
A great walk along a beautiful beach on a ripper of a day. Canine cacher thought it was all most interesting. Thanks for the cache.

A nice easy find on the way to A Small Sea Cave #1. A corker of a day. Thanks for the cache.

Great spot - I bet it gets mighty blustery at times! Had intended to hunt down the cache but dog member of family not welcome. Will have to leave it til another time.

Lovely day for discovering new places. Humans and dog both enjoyed the beach stroll. Thanks.

Got it eventually after initially being fooled by an imposter key feature near to the obvious key feature. Lovely beach walk for humans and canine.

09-Oct-09
Took out some first time cachers and despite the rain and missing cache I still think they're thoroughly hooked. Thanks for the fun.

08-Oct-09
Didn't have time for more than a quick look. Maybe the construction fence is an issue, but my GPS didn't think so.

26-Sep-09
Nice to have a few local caches around. It' s fun knowing they're there each time you wander past.
