Benjamin Mayberry Prentiss
PRENTISS, Benjamin Mayberry, soldier, born in Belleville, Wood County, Virginia, 23 November, 1819. He removed with his parents to Missouri in 1835, and in 1841 settled in Quincy. Ill., where he learned rope-making, and subsequently engaged in the commission business. In 1844-'5 he was 1st lieutenant of a company that was sent against the Mormons in Hancock, Illinois He served in the Mexican war as captain of volunteers, and on his return was an unsuccessful Republican candidate for congress in 1860. At. the beginning of the civil war he reorganized his old company, was appointed colonel of the 7th Illinois regiment, and became brigadier-general of volunteers. 17 Nay, 1861. He was placed in command of Cairo, afterward served in southern Missouri, routed a large body of Confederates at Mount Zion on 28 December, 1861, and joined General Grant three days before the battle of Shiloh, on the first day of which he was taken prisoner with most of his command. He was released in October, 1862, and appointed major-general of volunteers on 29 November He was a member of the court-martial that tried General Fitz-John Porter (q. v.). He commanded at the post of Helena, Arkansas, and on 3 July, 1863, defeated General Theophilus H. Holmes and General Sterling Price, who attacked him there. General Prentiss resigned his commission on 28 October, 1863.
He lived in Bethany Missouri & served as postmaster & lawyer where he now rests. There are several other Prentiss's resting with him.

May 8th 1855 this cast iron monument was erected to mark the beginning of the base line forming the Nebraska-Kansas border. It is located on the IOWA Indian Reservation not far from the MISSOURI River.
I have been looking for Kent for awhile now. I finally found several in Maitland Missouri. Maitland just happens to be where my dad was born.

How lucky can I get? My grandson Isaac was visiting us & playing in the yard. He came running in to the house & said he had found a turtle in the street. I grabbed the camera & GPSr to claim a locationless.

I was really suprised to find a "moom tree" so close to home. This tree is located in Atchison Kansas at Warnock Lake. The area would be a great place to study trees'. We went with the son & his family.

Found a pair of Sphinx at Mt. Mora Cemetary in St. Joseph Missouri. They are located at the entry of the Townsand Mausoleum.

This Logo water tower is located near the High School in Savannah Missouri.
There are 2 huts located in Savannah Missouri. One is used as a home & the other storage for the local news paper.

This teepee is located in St. Joseph Missouri at the south end of the Parkway system. Inside the teepee there is information about the Lewis & Clark expedition & native Americans & their teepee homes.

This eight sider is a barn located in Rea Missouri. It located on a farm that has raised registered Angus cattle for more than 50 years.
This is the N.A.P. quarry entrance located in Andrew County just south of Savannah Missouri.

This rotating railroad bridge Is located in St. Joseph Missouri & is still in use today. It is connects St. Joseph Missouri to Elwood Kansas.

This is the Gateway to Camp Geiger of the Pony Express council St. Joseph Missouri. It is located just out side of St. Joseph Missouri in Andrew County. The camp has been located here for many years. The Tribe of Mic-O-Say have been active in many local parades & perform at many other functions as well.

This Vortac is located in Andrew County Missouri in the middle of farm country. I will post a closer picture when I get permission from the land owner. They were not home when I visited this location. Our nearest airport is Rosecrans Air field, a Air National Guard Base, in St. Joseph Missouri.
This 9 basket disc course is located in Savannah Missouri at Duncan Park. It is next door to Duncan Hills Golf Club. The park offers fishing, sand volley ball, walking trail & a playground. There is also another regular geocache in the park. The littleguy in the picture is my grandson, the girls in the back ground are 2 of my grand daughters.
This old sign is located in beautiful down town Savannah Missouri & has been on this building every since I can remember. It was originaly a clothing store that caterered to the locals, mostly farmers. It was also Silbar hardware, Cozy Corners Antique & gift shop. The building now houses Maries Photography, which my wife owns & runs, my oldest daughter is the senior photagrapher & a member of the Proffesional photographers of America & The Proffesional photographers of Missouri.

This large fellow is outside the Stoney Creek Inn located in the home of the Pony Express, St. Joseph Missouri. The guy in the picture (me) is 6' 3" tall to give you an idea of how big this fellow is.

The school sat empty for many years until 2 local men opened A&B Game Farm. The school now serves as the office/lodge for bird hunters. You can bring your own bird dog or rent one at the lodge. I am sure when the school was in session it was heated by a wood burning stove. The lodge is still heated with a wood burning pot bellied stove.
