Logs for FourW

23-Oct-24
JF met his end at the hands of one of the replicants. I suspect much the same has happened here. The cache had been muggled several times previously, so it is probably a likely candidate for future non-cachers. I'm not up this way as much as when I lived here, so... time to go.

19-Aug-24
I suspect the Replicants will take over soon, we will need a new method of detecting them as the VK device is no longer operational. Time for a new cache in this location perhaps. Thanks for the memories.

Found. Log is full and cache is fairly exposed to weather.

Found in the back of the obvious place.

Not subtle. Could be a favourite!

I haven't been caching much recently, and had a bit of a DNF elsewhere, but this one reminded me of what caching ought to be like. Once I got the stupid phone app to accept a waypoint, off I went, and caught up with my muggle wife who was (patiently) waiting for me. She also located the hitching point and wondered why on earth anyone wanted to do this pastime. I reminded her that it wasn't "on Earth" and proceeded into the airlock. Found it with a bit of give and take from the rope. Hooray. I re-emerged covered in stardust and dirt. I then carried the box of bits all round the park till I got back to the original hide and replaced the rope. Thanks for an awesome cache!

Found the other day and logging it on my birthday. Yay me. It wasn't even what I was intending to find but my wife suggested we go for a drive up the hill to find it.

Found the cache box on the ground while walking the dog, so I poked it (the box not the dog) back in under the corner of the ramp. This cache tends to wander about a bit at times, so I think that's about the right spot. It does need some attention though.

So the cache is back there, all in one piece. Was almost out in the open, but it's back under the bridge.Don't confuse it for the rat bait station which is also there.Ready to go again.

While waiting at the nearby motel, I checked the map and found 4 or 5 caches close enough to grab while just otherwise sitting around.
I had noticed this spot when we got off the bus and refrained from mentioning it to my long-suffering non-caching wife as a good spot to hide a cache. Turns out I was right and she rolled her eyes at me!
I even did this BFE style, which for those not from Adelaide, is named after "Bob From Elsewhere" who found over 1100 caches by just using the geocaching map and eyeballing the location. No GPS, no phones, just poking about in the bushes.
Glad the country is open to visitors again. Thanks from Adelaide.

Halfway up the mountain I checked the phone. Silly me I should have checked 1/3rd of the way up.I think this is the 3rd solar system series I have encountered around the world. Thanks for the great view from this one!PS had to take a photo log as the pen was in the other bag back at the motel....

While waiting at the nearby motel, I checked the map and found 4 or 5 caches close enough to grab while just otherwise sitting around. This was number 3 of 4.Had a bit of a time with sat lock, putting me anywhere up to 10 m away from actual GZ. Eventually I started thinking like a cacher. I searched opposite where the phone was pointing me (I prefer GPSr units to phones anyway) and looked up a little higher than where the hint was pointing. Eventually located waist high on the stainless steel turn buckles. Nit sure if this was the original or replacement cache. Found and signed and replaced. Thanks from Adelaide.

While waiting at the nearby motel, I checked the map and found 4 or 5 caches close enough to grab while just otherwise sitting around. This was number 1 of 4.Had a bit of a time with sat lock, putting me anywhere up to 10 m away from actual GZ. Eventually I started thinking like a cacher. A slightly different pattern of cache was a nice reward in the end. Thanks from Adelaide.

While waiting at the nearby motel, I checked the map and found 4 or 5 caches close enough to grab while just otherwise sitting around. This was number 2 of 4.Had a bit of a time with sat lock, putting me anywhere up to 6 m away from actual GZ. But after finding the other nearby cache in a slightly different pattern, I scored this one quickly. Not my first but also not my last in NZ. Thanks from Adelaide.

Found this morning on our way to the water taxi to visit Kaipupu "Island" Reserve.
I stopped here yesterday but was a little too under the weather (perhaps "something I ate"?) to look for caches.
Quick and easy find in the end.
EDIT: Dropped off Gottle O Geer travel bug after spending a very long time with me. Covid and other things notwithstanding. Happy travels my clinking clanking friend.

Found after a little walk up the hill. Contents all secure and dry. Lovely views to the north from here.
I could see a seal just next to the little island.

Found. Had some great views and now I'm not sure which cache was which.
At least I brought a pen with me today. The last few finds were photo logs which gets very confusing.
Thanks for the cache series. Didn't have time to attempt the multicache, with only 2 hours it was a little tight anyway, and the rain has been falling ever since we got back to Picton.

This was the biggest cache I have found in a long time. Was a little further off track than I expected, and was starting to feel a bit like I was going to get lost or trip or otherwise stranded.
Fortunately all was good. Probably should have left my travel bug, but he's still tagging along.

Quick find, I think, as they are all running into each other a little, logging while sitting back in the comfort of our beach apartment in Picton.
Saw lots of interesting things around the reserve today.

My non caching wife suggested this one was a little too far off track to attempt. So I heeded her advice.

Missed it on the way out to the Snout today, but after stopping to rest at the top lookout, we decided to head home without going the whole way north. While searching for the cache on the way back to the car, we met a couple of Schnauzers who told me quite loudly that I was in their walking spot. I didn't tell them about the cache, which was safe and sound.

After a walk to the point and a read of the interesting interpretive signs (a bit too much supposition going on for me), I went diving into the bush and found both a trig point (yay!) and a cache (less yay, bit soggy), needing some care and attention (which I don't have the equipment for right now).
On holiday from Adelaide.

Prickled my fingers on the gorse bits on the ground at the opposite end of the hiding spot. Eventually I looked at the correct height and behind the right bit of hint.

13-Sep-23
Poked about near the clue zone but didn't find anything resembling the cache. Guessing it's gone or I'm cache blind.

12-Sep-23
Yay nice find in the heart of a beautiful garden. And large too! The photo I take hardly does it justice.
Thanks!

Easy find at the end of a long walk.

Had to skip this one as two muggles (whoops wrong film franchise there), were breaking down on us at a rate of knots. I was doing well and didn't mind missing out. Met Sauron at Weta Workshops a few days later. Very big fellow.

Despite its size, I found this cache quickly, after initially overshooting the mark by a few metres. Not much on a normal day, but after hiking all the way to Tama Lake, it was almost too much to turn around. Eventually I found the precious.

Quick find thanks to hint and lack of other hidy-holes.I "met" Lurtz a few days after this cache, when I visited Weta Workshops in Wellington.

This one was a little tricky for me for some reason, but eventually we coincided and a picture was taken for posterity.

After walking all the way to halfway between the Tama lakes, we had lunch and returned, taking the other side of the loop. All the caches were found easily thanks to the clear hints and lack of any other place they could be hidden.EDIT: found last week not today....

Successfully found this one on the way up the stream to the falls. Right where the clue said it would be. Excellent work.

No luck here, the cache hide reminded me of a scene from the very B-grade, (but highly enjoyable when I saw it 40ish years ago ) Flash Gordon movie where se had to stick his hand in the stump to prove his mettle. I too survived but failed to find the spider...

Found quickly as we walked along the track upstream.
Took a photo as the pen we didn't bring wasn't working anyway.
More to come...

First find of many today. My wife (non cacher) said " there it is" before I had even finished reading the clue.
We forgot a pen (which didn't work anyway) so took photos (which need uploading) from an app (we can't download yet due to poor wifi at the motel).
More to come...

We walked up the Silica Rapids track and I had forgotten about Earthcaches in the area until I checked the map when we got back to the ski lodge. I managed to recall enough details that Sveppi allowed the successful log.
We walked back via the Bruce Road route and saw a great range of landscapes and geology. The road walk was a little dicey, but we safely got back to the car.
Thanks for the cache!

07-Sep-23
I came all the way here (on holiday from the west island (Australia)) thought to myself I should have looked up some caches before leaving today, couldn't get a signal on the phone. Looked it up when I got to the motel, and realised it was right under my feet when I was messing about with tech.
Not going to drive back tomorrow, but had a nice walk anyway.

06-Aug-23
There is a new figurine in place, no container, but he's holding some paper. Can't see how he'll get wet unless someone makes a real mess of the hide.
Cleaned up some trash as well.

Replaced with a waterproof container inside a larger tube the size of the original.
Tucked in behind the olive bush now growing in the location.
Hopefully it stays a little longer, but I expect it will get cleaned up after the next few finds.

Needs maintenance for a two-chambered cache. Is so frequently muggled I may have to reluctantly archive. If I don't get back in a couple of weeks, it may go.

Unfortunately, I think the rock that hid the cache has possibly fallen into the creek. The rock wall is now quite steep and exposed and not very user friendly. The fallen trees and new development across the creek also reduce the appeal here.
I think my old age is catching up with me for maintenance too, so this one is best left to fond memories.

17-Mar-23
I will work on being there. A leap day event sounds like something not to miss!

12-Mar-23
Staying at the cabins here while my mum is planning a display of her works of art at a local gallery. Solved most of the puzzle in my head, made up a number which placed the cache on the riesling trail which didn't seem right. Recalculated and realised I'd walked past it in the afternoon while birdwatching. Found it first thing this morning on another walk. Very satisfying, unlike the traditional cache in the cemetery which has me stumped.
EDIT: trackable visited too.

16-Jan-23
Definitely there and available for finding. Not my best work, but it should be dry.

15-Jan-23
Interesting, I'd only just replaced it on Wednesday but hadn't logged the maintenance. I'm going up again today, so will check again.

Will check today.

02-Jan-23
No luck. Many potential hides around the structure, but I had no idea what I was doing...
Saw a mighty big ship though.

Found while on holiday. Have eaten several rounds of fish nearby.

01-Jan-23
Yes found it! In great condition unlike some other parts of Rottnest Is. Took a couple of nice walks around the area, then quick beach sprint to find this for the first find of the year. Happy New 2023!

31-Dec-22
Yes I found this one! First WA find in 12 years of caching! Nice views too.
