Logs for woodyrothwell

For whatever reason, we had the radio on at the time we pulled up for this hide. It was 11am on the dot on Remembrance Day and the ode came on. We both got out of the car and listened for a moments silence.Funnily enough, I was headed for the Redcliffe RSL for a session later in the day and I knew it was going to be a big one. tftc
Thank goodness we were back to some simple finds because I was starting to work up a sweat. The sweat was caused because I was trying to go too fast so we could get home before any traffic started on the Bruce back to Redcliffe. tftc
From GZ I was looking for the golf course but I couldnt see it. Being a bit of a country course golf tragic I only laid eyes on it as we were driving away.I am a terrible golf player but somehow keep going back. I like a country course because you dont have to worry about taking divots. You have to worry about spinal surgery if you do. tftc
We had just pulled up at a previous cache that must have been in a stump that was burnt out and we watched as it was archived right in front of us, and rightly so. We were worried that a few had disappeared because it looked like grass fires had been through to clear out the area. This one was still in great condition so we pushed on. tftc
We couldnt really see a good place to park so I half drove into the ditch. It was all good on my side of the car, however if my wife got out she was probably going T over A.I didnt think she would get out but she did and even stayed on her feet. tftc
When we pulled up there was a herd of about 20 cows meandering right next to the car and also standing on the cache. We thought about just driving on but before we knew it we were in a Mexican stand-off.They werent moving and neither were we. Finally I mustered the courage to get out of the car and they shifted just enough for us to grab the hide. tftc
This ended up being our last find on our weekend to Kingaroy. We had just been muggled out of our last hide, not by people, but by cows. Normally a few cows wouldnt bother us but there were calves lying on the ground right next to the hide. We didnt want to bother them so drove on to this hide. tftc
Its almost refreshing when you drive down a country road and see a stump and there is no cache in it. You just turn up expecting a quick find and then have to head back to the car with your tail between your legs.Thats what happened here. I got back in the car and Mrs Woodyrothwell told me that I had not looked hard enough. I went back with my reading glasses on (which didnt help) and decided not to focus on the obvious. tftc
My wife and I had spent the weekend at Kingaroy and were making our way back home to Redcliffe. We decided to tack on a few hours to the drive by returning through Gympie. This was our first find of the day. tftc
Its good to see that there isnt much rubbish on the side of the roads. Well there is if you look hard enough. There are grubs everywhere. Some of the rubbish you might find blows my mind. Im OK if someone throws an apple core out their window but dumping a tyre or a bong is going too far. The price of a hose these days means that making a bong is equivalent to a small mortgage. tftc
We werent exactly sure if we should be driving right up to the cache. When no one is around its all good. Then there are the days when is busier than a bee hive. Thankfully it was quick find so we could be on our way before upsetting everyone. tftc
After finding my way up I was presented with an obstacle. A wall of lantana appeared to be blocking me from the hide. I was already starting to sweat and on your last day, making an effort usually isnt at the fore of your mind.I could have just barged in and got scratched to buggery so instead decided to just take it a bit easier and kindly reunite some of the lantana with the ground. tftc
I dont know what had happened to Mrs Woodyrothwell because I had watched her going downhill since we left Kingaroy this morning. The little petite cough she had started with was turning into a full on guard dog bark. I think she was very happy when the cache was on my side of the car and I was the one to get out and look for it. tftc
Im not sure where this road goes to or from but it was on for young and old today. The last couple of days we had hardly seen anyone and today everyone had finally crept out of their caves. They all were headed somewhere and we clearly werent invited. tftc
Im not sure but it almost looks like someone is trying to make their own homegrown four wheel drive track next to this hide. I should have used it to get in but that would mean using brain cells and I dont have many to spare. tftc
This was another hide where if you parked as close as you could, access didnt look that simple. Sometimes its easier to backtrack a few metres to find an easier access point. We are not that celeverer so took the direct route. tftc
My wife and I were driving back to Redcliffe after spending the weekend in Kingaroy. Our original plan was to grab a few drive-bys, but a lot of these hides required a small amount of effort. We couldnt drive passed all of them so decided we just had to suck it up buttercup and make the effort. tftc
The whole family has an in-joke with my wife whenever we see a stick on the ground. She somehow has a habit of finding them and tripping on them. We now all point out the blatantly obvious as we pass one.Today wasnt any different. She got out the car and proceeded to tumble away after tripping over a piece of grass. Sometimes you need to get your head out of the phone. tftc
It was another great day to be out in country roads and it was good to see some of them were sealed. There was also plenty of good places to park without bothering anyone. tftc
At first I thought about running into the cache to speed the day up and Im glad I didnt because there were some lovely hidden potholes in the long grass. The grass wasnt that long but I have been known to run that fast that I could start a fire. Then I woke up from my dream. tftc
10-Nov-24
Mrs Woodyrothwell and I had been out fanging on the dirt roads with a plan to be home in time to watch the football. To make sure we didnt waste time fighting over where to get lunch, we packed our own. They were just boring sandwiches. I had a vegemite sanga and my wife had a beetroot sanga (errr, sorry about that. I just threw up in my mouth a little). Who puts nothing but beetroot on a sandwich? It was only about 10:30 and in Mrs Woodyrothwell speak that is lunch time. I dont know how her biological clock works, but when the alarm goes off it is deafening. tftc
How can these dirt roads be in such amazing shape? If it had been over a year since these hides were found I thought it would be difficult to get out here yet it wasnt. In fact during the whole weekend we hadnt come across a dirt road that was rutted out. Either the graters are worth their weight in gold or there is actually gold in the dirt keeping it level. tftc
When we go out on caching mission, we always plug the car fridge into the boot. It means we have cold drinks and can pack some lunch. Yesterday we hadnt driven on many dirt roads yet still there was a lot of dust and dirt in the boot. After today however I was dreading to think what the boot looked like. Lucky that collecting dirt is one of the things on my bucket list. tftc
I dont want to speak ill of any other geocacher, but what we found was probably the weirdest shit we have seen. We walked around to the back of the tree to find a cracking spot for a cache only to not find anything. We checked the hint and could not believe we were about to DNF a cache out here. Then we read the activity and someone had decided to replace the cache 5m up a tree. We had our tree fishing pole in the car and could see the hide and know we know the definition of cache creep.Lets say that for future finders that you dont need a tree fishing pole and the hide is back in line with the hint. WTF? tftc
At this point in the morning we had travelled out as far as we could go. We still wanted to be home in time for the footy and as the hides were all relatively simple and in amazing condition we were on track. We knew we had some dirt road bashing in front of us and with plenty of time up our sleeves tacked on a few more hides. tftc
I think we can say with a lot of confidence that this cache is no more. The whole side of the road has been recently burnt to a crisp and the smell is still in the air. There is nothing left above ground level for a cache to attach to. Thanks anyway
We didnt get to see a whole lot of wild life whilst out on this dirt road. Usually there are cows or flys or something that would make a veterinarian froth at the mouth. The other animals we didnt see were people. We didnt cross paths with one car the whole time we were out here. It almost felt like we were doing something illegal. tftc
After coming from the previous cache where the roadside was burnt out we were very worried. All of this area was also burnt to a crisp so I didnt have much hope and still I ventured in anyway. What I found on the ground was a large bison tube grey as brain matter yet still somehow the lid was working perfectly. When I opened it I could see the perfect burnt shape of a log book. Naturally as I tipped it upside down the logbook disintegrated into dust and flew away.Somehow the cache had survived but the log book had been cooked. We found some paper in the car and stuck it in the hide and replaced it back next to the bottom of a tree where I found it. I cant believe the cache had survived. Photo attached. tftc
My wife and I wanted to be back at our apartment by 12:50pm so we could watch the Jillaroos play footy. I say apartment because I dont know if the definition of where we are staying is a chalet, demountable, cabin, cottage, bungalow, penthouse or chambers. They all sound pretty fancy and does make us sound a little bit hoity toity. When I say hoity toity I also mean stuck up, snobbish, arrogant, toffee-nosed, self-indulgent and just general tossers. Maybe I will change my definition and just say my wife and I wanted to be back in our room. tftc
Like others have said, the cache is full of water and the water is getting ranker. You can try to tip it out but then all you get to smell is the stank water falling all over your shoes. At least someone has put the log into a container that floats. It sits at the top so you can grab it whilst you look into the submerged lost city of Eclipse Atlantis. tftc
We knew that it had been a bit of time in between drinks for some of these caches and we were thirsty. I definitely wasnt going to be shouting these caches a beer because no doubt it could be some time before they appear at the bar again. The best part is that these caches are designed to survive the elements and will happily be there waiting for you. Maybe they will return the shout one day. tftc
Its good to see that Australias threatened species lantana is thriving out here. The only thing keeping it under control is obviously the trucks passing by that prune it at 100km/h.Thats all we could see and seeing its been a year since this hide has been found we didnt know if we were up for a scratch-fest. On the map it looked close to the road so instead of just barging in we looked in from the road. There in the one spot the lantana wasnt thick was the cache hanging around waiting for us. tftc
We were almost at the end of our dirt road sojourn for the morning. We could see the highway from here and that meant a break from the dust and dirt. In fairness the dust and dirt was fun, unless you were driving behind us.I was starting to get a bit of RSI from signing a few logs. I used to have geocaching stamps but they got lost over time. I need to remind myself to buy some more. tftc
It would make sense that there should be more amorous times between a wife and husband when they are out caching. There is no one around, the mood is peaceful, even romantic. You have birds chirping, the sun is shining, and pheromones are doing things to your brain that confuse you. Then out of nowhere another car comes driving down the dirt road and you are covered in dirt and dust. All thoughts of a sneaky cuddle are the furtherest thing from your minds. tftc
Once again we were amazed to see that these hides had not been visited in over a year. This road leads straight to the highway and is hardly an effort to get to.In the middle of our drive we found a few caches that had had more recent visits so there is either another way in or people are cherry-picking their finds. We were having too much fun to think about picking cherries.
This was our last little stretch of dirt road before heading back into Kingaroy to watch the footy. So far we had only had one DNF which was a cache that looked to be burnt to a crisp.Thats the beauty of the nice big hides out here. Its not muggles that are going to get them, its only fire. tftc
Mrs Woodyrothwell was tucking into some early lunch as we drove around. Her lunch was a beetroot sandwich. You might want to know what other delicious condiments were on that sandwich. There werent any.It could have been the most disgusting thing I have heard of and visibly it looked like the kind of sandwich that only a vampire could enjoy. I have to kiss that mouth. tftc
After spending a couple of years in the dirt, you would expect the lid of the cache to be tight. This lid was tighter than a nuns chastity belt. I hadnt been to gym for a few days while we drank some South Burnett wine, so my muscles werent ready to work hard. After two years without some love I really wanted to sign the log and the only way was to give the lid a couple of love taps. After each tap the lid would move about a centimetre. Lets just say that quite a few love taps were required to get the lid off. tftc
Knowing this hide hadnt been found for over two years I was a bit worried when I saw the location. Lets just say some trees have fallen over and are heading downhill towards the fence. The hint said look for a burnt log. There were quite a few logs and none of them looked burnt. It was time to dig deep and by dig deep, I mean dont look very hard because this was a nice quick simple find. Future hunters might want to hurry the hell up because this cache is waiting. tftc
Wow! Just over two years since this cache had been found and it is still in perfect nick. I didnt know that was possible although the cache container is resilient.I wonder how many sleepless nights this cache has had waiting to be found. I have a sleepless night when I havent drunk a bottle of wine so I felt for it. tftc
We definitely both had one of those parallel universe twilight zone GPS moments.at this hide. Both of our phones said the hide was 50 metres away. Usually my iPhone and my wifes Samsung are close but usually fight over a metre or two. This time they both agreed on how far away the hide was.The weirdest part is that I really wanted to check something that I had parked right next to. Thats where I found the hide and when I got back to the car both our phones were still saying 50m away. tftc
Thankfully or fortunately, we dont need to qualify for any unloved challenges or we would have qualified just on this loop of hides. Each time we turned up hoping for the best, yet we didnt need to because they were all in pristine condition.Obviously these caches are not in the way to anywhere. The only place you could be headed to after finding these caches is a car wash. tftc
A bit of long grass was going to scare my wife. She had become desensitized to anything that could be lurking underneath. We will probably stay that way until something bad happens, knock on wood.Something bad almost did happen and it wasnt the animal kind. It was a log that was obscured in the long grass that she almost tripped over and went arse up. tftc
Each time we would pull up for a hide, I kept expecting we would run into some sort of slithery wild life. The grass was long, the heat was up and the conditions were perfect for a run in.Even though we made a lot of noise at each stop nothing appeared. We just hope we havent become too blase to the dangers of caching in the bush. tftc
At first I parked up and Mrs Woodyrothwell ran over to look for the cache. I could see hadnt come up with anything so I too ran across the highway to join her. That was for nought because I couldnt see anything either. We both went back to the car and then read the most recent log that said the hide was found on the ground. With that in mind, my wife went back over for another look and when I saw her bending over I knew she had snaffled it. tftc
This morning Mrs Woodyrothwell had made herself a shake for breakfast. Its some sort of protein powder/weight loss shakes and she made me taste it. It was the most horrendous thing I have put my lips to.I can see why they advertise it as weight loss shake because once you taste it you never want to drink or eat ever again. tftc
Today we made an early start (which meant we got out of bed at 7am). We wanted to be back by 12:50pm so we could watch the Jillaroos and then Kangaroos play footy.I had navigated a little loop around what looked like a bunch of dirt roads, however at the moment we were still on the sealed stuff. This hide kicked off our finds for the day. tftc
Unfortunately it wasnt for us today. I think the heat got to us and after circling the same few logs a few times, we had to call it. Thanks anyway
This morning my wife and I had sacrificed one hour of sleep so we could get up early to find a few hides. Our plan was to be back at our accommodation by 11:50am to watch the Jillaroos play footy and start day-drinking.Day drinking is absolutely fine when you are doing it with your best mate. Its even better when you know that you only have to travel 5 metres to the bed in case you need an early afternoon siesta. This was our last find of the day and we were even back early enough to have a morning nightcap before the footy started. tftc
On the 1st of January 2019 we found our one and only Walk with the Dinosaurs hide. Its the one at the top of the lookout and I remember why we didnt find any others. We thought we would walk down the hill and then back up again, but it was so damn hot that the mission was aborted.Today we came to make amends and were muggled out at the top and bottom of the Mount. It will take us another 5 years to get back so instead we grabbed the hides on the dirt road. tftc
