Logs for team novo
03-Nov-24
We came up to Newie again this week for about the third weekend in the last four, this time to attend the [HAVOC Flotilla](https://coord.info/GCAZBVQ) event on the Newcastle harbour which was fun. We decided we might set sail up Cockle Creek after the event which was, obviously, a great idea on a day like this! We launched [Lil' Geoff](https://coord.info/TB9QQJD) at the Speers Point boat ramp which was quite busy but we were able to find parking ok after the lineup to put in and off we went for some water caching! This was our first stop where we found the cache in excellent condition with a nice dry log. TFTC and series, team737.#2060

We decided we might set sail up Cockle Creek after the event which was, obviously, a great idea on a day like this! At GZ I jumped ashore to have a proper look for this one and just as I was beginning to get slightly stumped, geokid calls the find out not far from where he and [our water TOTT](https://coord.info/TB9QQJD) were parked lol oops. We opened cache and added our names to the nice dry log. Cache in excellent condition. TFTC and series, team737.#2068

Today eldest geokid was skipper of [our water TOTT](https://coord.info/TB9QQJD) while I was doing all the navigating and grabbing. Enjoying this end of the creek where we pulled in at GZ to find yet another custom 737 container in excellent condition with a nice dry log. TFTC and series, team737.#2069
We came up to Newie again this week for about the third weekend of the last four, this time to attend the [HAVOC Flotilla](https://coord.info/GCAZBVQ) event on the Newcastle harbour which was fun. We decided we might set sail up Cockle Creek after the event which was, obviously, a great idea on a day like this! Our water TOTT of choice today was [Lil' Geoff](https://coord.info/TB9QQJD) which made light work of this trail of caches. It was still mid-morning and the weather was absolutely perfect for enjoying this neat little hobby of ours. A careful approach at GZ rewarded us with another cache which was in excellent condition with a nice dry log. TFTC and series, team737.#2070

Today eldest geokid was skipper of [our water TOTT](https://coord.info/TB9QQJD) while I was doing all the navigating and grabbing. Nice to run into a different cache type, and for a challenge that we do qualify for as we enjoy water caching big time. Additionally, living in this part of the world requires a fair bit of "boat required" lol. In terms of the checker's report, to date we qualify with 141 cache finds of the required attribute. At GZ we pulled in where I climbed ashore to reach for another cache in excellent condition with a nice dry log. TFTC and series, team737. Have a FP for the challenge and the series of excellent caches so far.#2071

We decided we might set sail up Cockle Creek after the event which was, obviously, a great idea on a day like this! Today, eldest geokid was at the helm of [Lil' Geoff](https://coord.info/TB9QQJD) while I was doing all the navigating and grabbing. Well and truly up the creek now, admiring some of the back yards that some of the residents are enjoying. In saying that, we saw one of their washing machines and can confirm that it floats. At this GZ we found yet another cache in excellent condition with a nice dry log which now contains our green siggie. TFTC and series, team737.#2072

We decided we might set sail up Cockle Creek after the event which was, obviously, a great idea on a mild and still morning such as this! Today, the pilot of team novo was captaining [our water TOTT](https://coord.info/TB9QQJD) while I was doing all the navigating and grabbing. This was our final one right up the end which we found just on 90mins after finding #1. All the caches in this series are in excellent condition with nice dry logs in them. Can't recommend this series enough. Now for a fruit snack to start our journey back to the Speers Point boat ramp, just as the wind is beginning to pick up. TFTC and series, team737.#2073

We decided we might set sail up Cockle Creek after the event which was, obviously, a great idea on a day like this! Today the new pilot in the family was piloting [the vessel](https://coord.info/TB9QQJD) while I was doing all the navigating and grabbing. Nice to have a different cache type, and early in the run to break things up a little. Numbers noted at the posted where we quickly got a location which sent us to yet another cache in excellent condition with nice dry log. TFTC and series, team737.#2062

In this particular case, he dropped me ashore where I spent a little more time than I would like to admit searching for and finally finding the well hidden little cache, this one also in excellent condition with a nice dry log. We decided we might set sail up Cockle Creek after the event which was, obviously, a great idea on a day like this! We skipped [#7 of the series](https://coord.info/GL1BY9DX6) as I'd found that one with the other geokid on foot back in April. Lot's of model planes flying at the nearby airport as we zoomed past, including a couple of control-line planes having a dog fight. Once we got past all the noise of the planes we pulled in at GZ where we found yet another cache in excellent condition. also with a nice dry log. TFTC and series, team737.#2066

We cam up to Newie again this week for about the third weekend of the last four, this time to attend the [HAVOC Flotilla](https://coord.info/GCAZBVQ) event on the Newcastle harbour which was fun. We decided we might set sail up Cockle Creek after the event but on the way to the creek, we stopped by here on a busy Cricket Sunday morning it turns out, to grab this (FTF). No youngest geokid today (the monkey of team novo) so up I went with eldest geokid spotting for me. We had neighbours coming out to look, we had kids coming up from the cricket for a closer look; it was all a bit overwhelming lol but everyone including the neighbours thought the idea of a treasure hunt" is pretty cool so they were happy to let us be after explaining the reasons for our lunacy. Back to business at hand; having trouble spotting anything from above when geokid eventually spotted it while I was in another tree altogether, which was actually the SECOND wrong tree I climbed here at GZ today lol. In terms of qualification, we have 14 finds in each square and it seems we need to work on our T1 caches lol (see screenshot, below). TFTC and challenge, team737.#2059
Just going over some challenges we had book marked for completing. We SL for this one on a raid of the series with the grumpy squad back on [13 June 2020](https://coord.info/GL11PDF4Z) but had only amassed 84 qualifying caches by the end of that day hmmmph!Well, according to the checker, we now qualify for this challenge so take that you grumpy grumpity grumps..[team novo](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=team%20novo) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8KT9A/49395 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.You have found 152 caches of type "Boat required"This is how we'd been progressing over the approx. 4 years since:You have found 38 caches of type "Boat required". You require 112 more (@1134 overall finds)You have found 43 caches of type "Boat required". You require 107 more (@1140 overall finds)You have found 84 caches of type "Boat required". TFTC and grumpy challenge, GrumpyOldMates.#2074
Two of us novos catching up with Novocastrians lol on what turned out to be a beautiful morning on the Newcastle Harbour for a water event! Great idea, Big Matt! There was a very slight breeze which was gradually blowing us all into the harbour where we would paddle back into the old dry dock basin; this occurred a few times which was good as it kept us moving around, allowing us to rotate around the group better, eventually catching up with almost everyone. TFTE, Big Matt and Shell!#2058

Back in Newie this morning, this time for eldest novo's safe drivers prac. I dashed off for some caching in the meantime including doing this excellent WIG but at GZ I was muggled out by a large group of park church-goers who all happened to be orientated right at GZ during their communion and sermon. Certainly lots going on in the park this morning lol. So I moved on and, after picking up the geokid, we came back to this one and found it after ducking for cover a few times from a different type of muggle this time. Nice container and hide from team737 once again. TFTWIG, Samuel737.#2056
Back in Newie this morning, this time for eldest novo's safe drivers prac. So I dashed off this time for some pole caching. Figured I had time for one more before picking up the boy so I came out to this one. Nice walk to GZ where it took a little to actually locate the thing. I even looked over the edge a few times to see if it had maybe fallen. Was about to pull stumps when I finally spotted the well-hidden cache and unfortunately the novo stick just isn't quite up to the task for this one. We'll be back, better equipped another time!#2055
Back in Newie this morning, this time for eldest novo's safe drivers prac. So I dashed off this time for some pole caching and this was the first one that I found today. The novo stick is really starting to show it's age but it's still got some life left in it as we now have our name in this log. TFTC and puzz, lee737.#2053
Geokid and I returning home after a morning in Newie. This one looked rather intriguing and I knew we had a good selection of TOTTs on board including a very powerful and very expensive rare-earth magnet so we parked up top and made our way down a familiar path to GZ where we were greeted with quite the task, ha! Oh wow I *think* we can do this??!Can't narrate much further without giving anything away but we certainly used quite the array of TOTTs and tried a number of different things until we finally had a nicely working setup. What I will say is that there is a rather satisfying "click" sound experienced whilst attempting this cache, a sound we anticipated moments before, and it was everything we'd hoped for. After SL and putting it all back and walking way, geokid exclaimed "that was about the best fishing session we've ever had, dad". He's right because today we actually caught something... and for that, have a FP! TFTC and madness, lee737.#2057
Back in Newie this morning, this time for eldest novo's safe drivers prac. So I dashed off this time for some pole caching. Did notice this 2/4 nearby so thought I might come over for a look as I was armed with a few TOTTs just incase. Went for a recce first but managed to find it in the first place I looked which I'm not afraid to admit is not often. Was able to grab that ok on this nice dry day without going back to the geocar. What an interesting little abandoned area. TFTC, Samuel737.#2055
Back in Newie this morning, this time for eldest novo's safe drivers prac. So I dashed off this time for some pole caching. I had just come from doing team737's WIG in Lambton Park and got muggled out there so it was nice to come to a spot that was pretty much abandoned as compared, although you wouldn't have thought so looking on the map. Oh boy this catch and grab was quite challenging with the novo stick as it really only goes to about 6m these days due to a section of it being trodden on and snapped accidentally by one of us a month or so back while pole fishing in Branxton. You see, our fishing TOTT is home-made and consists of three sections of 20x20 dressed Tasmanian oak, fashioned with some aluminium pieces at each end that can be joined on demand to provide a 3, 6, or 9m pole. Don't laugh - we've found almost 200 tree caches with it! Anyway turns out I still had what was left of that broken bit of the 3rd pole in the car which I duct-taped onto the end of the 6m section as the screws were missing, which gave me about 2m more. With me on my tippy-toes I was able to *just* snag it down! Getting it back up was tricky but ok thanks to no breeze and also thanks to some adjacent branches I was able to work off to hook it back on. This TOTT has not failed to replace a cache yet! (touch wood). TFTC, lee737.#2054

Dropped eldest novo off at a safe drivers course in the CBD this morning. Youngest geokid and I then took off for three hours to climb some trees. After our DNF here over a year ago, I suspected it might have been missing so thought I might just watch and see for a while. Sure enough. Back here today with some help and we now have our siggie on the brand new log sheet. Geokid climbed a fair way up just to get the views but we rehid it where we found it. TFTC and puzzle, Marcus Vitruvius.#2047
Dropped eldest novo off at a safe drivers course in the CBD this morning. Youngest geokid and I then took off for three hours for some geocaching. A bit of fun here to get us going this morning, nicely played team737. Oh bugger it seems I forgot our stamp (it's sitting on my desk at home ugh) so I'll come back tomorrow and stamp our book as well - eldest geokid has his prac tomoz not far from here. TFTLBH, lee737. We also discovered a couple of TBs.#2043
Dropped eldest novo off at a safe drivers course in the CBD this morning. Youngest geokid and I then took off for three hours to climb some trees. We'd just come from a Treegeek cache nearby and thought we'd make our way over here on the way back to the car. Nice little hide. This puzzle is quite unique, utilising a technique I'd never seen nor heard of before. It never ceases to amaze me how well coordinates can be hidden in a puzzle cache! Not sure if there's a tool for the last step or not - we carefully solved it manually which, while tedious, was satisfying as it began to unfold. TFTC and very cool puzz, lee737. Have another FP you guys.#2049
Dropped eldest novo off at a safe drivers course in the CBD this morning. Youngest geokid and I then took off for three hours to climb some trees. Brought a TOTT up with us just in case but it didn't leave the roof rack all day. This one was trickier than it looks. But we now have our siggie on the brand new log sheet. TFTC, Deni_f.#2046
Dropped eldest novo off at a safe drivers course in the CBD this morning. Youngest geokid and I then took off for three hours to climb some trees. Brought a TOTT with us just in case but it didn't leave the roof rack all day. Egads... this puzzle. If puzzle solves could be likened to watching a movie then I would liken this to watching something like *Ready Player One* lol, and not to mention the plot twists that keep coming in that film. TFTC and puzz (I think), Googlehihihi.#2042
Dropped eldest novo off at a safe drivers course in the CBD this morning. Youngest geokid and I then took off for three hours to climb some trees. A slight vocation variation here. We have a similar hide idea down our way that we've had in mind for a while. Really got to get it off the ground ...so to speak. TFTC, lee737.#2045
Eldest novo had a safe drivers course up here in Newcastle this morning. Youngest geokid and I filled in the time climbing trees. But we didn't want to steal all the fun from eldest geokid so we picked him up at midday and on the way home we stopped here to get three sets of eyes on the wall. Eldest geokid soon made the find and declared the need to relinquish yet another FP to team737 for this here hide. The rest of us unanimously agreed. Guys, your caches are awesome. We appreciate COs committed to quality hides that are well maintained to boot. We'll be back tomorrow for more as eldest novo has his driving prac in Broadmeadow so I guess I better bring the novo stick! TFTC, lee737.#2051
Dropped eldest novo off at a safe drivers course in the CBD this morning. Youngest geokid and I then took off for three hours to climb some trees. This was one of them. Geokid went up as high as he could. We were both surprised how far up one can climb this one; almost 9m! TFTC, Samuel737.#2044
Eldest novo had a safe drivers course up here in Newcastle this morning. Youngest geokid and I filled in the time climbing trees. But we didn't want to steal all the fun from eldest geokid so we picked him up at midday and on the way home we stopped here to see if three sets of eyes could find anything at WP1. Answer is no! Two of us getting sore necks for about 15 mins and one of us climbing all over the tree was not enough to locate whatever it is that we need to locate here. I suggested we go to plan B which has worked before; try some blind luck. So we split up and after a few wrong turns and some more tree climbs, just as we were about to pack it in I finally spotted it and our names are now in the log. That hide at WP1 got us but spotting the hide at GZ was all the more satisfying, not least as neither of the two young novos could see it even when I was pointing it out to them. Made me feel much better as I'm the one who wears glasses! TFTC, Samuel737.#2050
Eldest novo had a safe drivers course up here in Newcastle this morning. Youngest geokid and I filled in the time climbing trees. But we didn't want to steal all the fun from eldest geokid so we picked him up at midday and on the way home we stopped here to get three sets of eyes on this tricky hide. Just as well as it took all three of us climbing and circling and squinting until it was finally spotted and signed. Even the grab took two of us lol. Nice way to finish our day of caching - Newcastle is brimming with high quality caches which are always worth our 90min drive here. TFTC, Samuel737.#2052
This here cache is gold - PURE GOLD. A unique (in our experience) and thematically fitting puzzle, in a lovely spot, and in one of the most cache-worthy trees we've ever come across. This one is going into our [novo Hall Of Fame](https://coord.info/BM4Z531). TFTC and puzz and awesome climb, Samuel737!#2048

Yeah this looks awesome! A few novos accompanied by [Lil' Geoff](https://coord.info/TB9QQJD) are aiming to be there, weather permitting.#2041

On my way to play at the Wingham Music Festival today and took this short detour to claim this grandfathered challenge after not being able to find anything here on a search last year (see below Write note) due to there now being houses and a road here lol. Haven't been back up this way since then when we climbed South Bro not far from here, where the cache has obviously had some maintenance since. Re-did the puzz the other night and made a find today not far from where the old coords were.Looking back on our stats, we had amassed about 55 finds of the 'A' square by just 200 overall finds - probably normal. But that's about when we'd started setting a course for high overall average D/T and everything changed from there. So by about 500 overall finds we'd clocked our first loop of the fizzy and had qualified for this challenge with two squares: the 2/1.5 and the 2/2. In terms of our qualification for the challenge, as of today 19 Oct 2024, we have **2041 overall finds** and qualify with **two D/T squares** having the sum which exceeds our 'A' (92). They are the **2/4 (62)** & **5/5 (33)** squares.Fun fact: I spotted on Cachly a FTF today on the way up here. What is it? A 1.5/1.5... NOPE keep driving. TFTC and challenge and cache maintenance, MAP's.#2041

On our way back home along the M31 from one of our regular trips visiting family in Violet Town (VIC). We've never stopped here at Gundagai before (except for at The Dog on the Tuckerbox - we have stopped there EVERY time including today) as Holbrook is usually our lunch stop. But this trip we were keen to finally check the place out and were pleasantly surprised at not just the lovely and well-kept little town it is but the location as well. We will stop here more often that's for sure. Took a little to find the container at GZ as we (I) initially disregarded it as rubbish but one of the geokids was sweeping behind me and gave it a second look, unlike the syringe container about 5m from the north which I gave too much attention to yuk. The kids spotted a troupe of kangaroos grazing on the hillside as I was stamping and were quick to point them out to lady novo who always enjoys spotting any non-reptilian fauna. What a wonderful part of the world for them to live. TFTC, Bushfire/ Roostaman.#2035
Driving past today, heading back home along the M31 after one of our regular trips visiting family in Violet Town (VIC). Today eldest geokid is at the wheel, adding about 10hrs to his logbook. Means we are only going 90kmh all the way to the central coast lol BUT that I can flick thru Cachly and hone in on some low-hanging fruit and, as a bonus, give us all some regular breaks in interesting places rather than the usual roadside dives. This cache also gave youngest geokid the opportunity to climb an awesome tree at GZ. TFTLBH and awesome climb, my_name_jeff_1.#2036

This "letterbox" cache is located at a dumping site tho, plus there was no stamp, so that was all a bit of a shame. So when life gives you lemons, sign a D4.5 log lol. TFTLBH, my_name_jeff_1.#2037
On our way back home along the M31 from one of our regular trips visiting family in Violet Town (VIC). We've never stopped here at Gundagai before (except for at The Dog on the Tuckerbox up the road a little further) as Holbrook is usually our lunch stop but this trip we were keen to finally check the place out and were pleasantly surprised at not just the lovely and well-kept little town it is but the location as well. We will stop here more often that's for sure. We thought this monument might be a good place to stop and get a bit of history. Cache was found on the ground with a broken lid. Unfortunately we didn't have spare sistemas with us (we usually do) so I was unable to undertake a repair but we placed it back as per hint which is actually a dry spot so hopefully it will keep a little longer. For what it's worth, log is bagged and was dry when we signed it after the last few days of rain. TFTC, The Farmers 5.#2034

Knowing we were going to be passing by here today, I thought I might try one of these WIGs which is a little different to the standard Reverse WIG that we've all become accustomed to. Took a guess back home on recce and decided that would be a good place to start. Once we arrived "there" this morning on our way thru to VIC, we projected and then ok; backtracked, and tried the next one. Ok; that was helpful but working our way there without any angular dec mins meant our mojo was required for the drive along the final 500m or so. Our third stop suggested it was now behind us so I ran back ~50m or so to a likely spot while the youngest geokid checked an area of slightly higher T, just for the fun of it. Finally located and signed. My only suggestion with this cartridge as an improvement is that it might provide you with the current projection line on the map in the cartridge. Unless of course there's a cheats way to do *this* variation that went right over our heads, which would negate such a feature and also highlight our naivete of this particular cartridge. I hope not as, alas, that was actually fun. TFTWIG, DARKSIDEDAN. #2029
Knowing we were going to be passing by here today on our trip to Violet Town, I thought I might have a go at some of these Elementary# LBH puzzles as I like LBHs and I like puzzles. At GZ we quickly honed in on GZ where youngest geokid climbed up to make the grab where, once again, a LBH cache had no stamp. That's disappointing as we collect those and we are so far 0/2. TFTC, my_name_jeff_1.#2030
Knowing we were going to be passing by here today on our trip to Violet Town, I thought I might have a go at some of these Elementary# LBH puzzles as I like LBHs and I like puzzles. This is our third one of the series today but we are not having a lot of luck with stamping as the previous two we found had no stamp inside. This one did yay finally. Hey this is a cool area on a perfect morning such as this. TFTC, my_name_jeff_1.#2031
Knowing we were going to be passing by here today on our trip to Violet Town, I thought I might have a go at some of these Elementary# LBH puzzles last week as I like LBHs and I like puzzles. This one will be handy for our upcoming 15th loop of the fizz. Nice area to stretch the legs before setting in on the big leg of our drive. TFTC, my_name_jeff_1.#2033
Knowing we were going to be overnighting in Goulburn last night, I thought I might have a go at some of these Elementary# LBH puzzles as I like LBHs and I like puzzles. Eventually after being quite puzzled with this one, I zoned in on a LOT of "guess what I'm thinking" and came up with a good possibility that we only realised paid off once at GZ. Youngest geokid made the grab early this morning where we could only SL of this letterbox as there is no stamp. Oh well. TFTC, my_name_jeff_1.#2028
Driving along a road here off the M31 somewhere between Goulburn and Yass to grab some LBHs on our way to VIC and, oh cool - a team737 cache! Two geokids UP to locate the familiar container, which would have to be about the best containers of their kind, that we've come across anyways. I'm told that was a fun climb - you be the judge (see pics). TFTC, Samuel737.#2032

Last time we were up this way caching was a few months ago with eldest geokid clocking up some flying hours nearby. Today he is clocking up some driving hours so we decided to drive up as far as Branxton and back (from the central coast), all up logging around 4 hours. We also logged seven caches Pleasantly surprising to get the top-shelf views at WP1 where we sat and derived some coords. After a false start for GZ by beginning on foot from there and realising we could prolly drive a little closer, we made our way down the quaint little trail to the cache where our hearts sank at the height of this one. We needed to add the third link in our fairly clumsy home-made TOTT, which often makes it quite difficult to control. Got it down ok but as is often the challenge with these caches; it took two of us and some luck to eventually get it back where it belongs! This gets the cache of the day award so have a FP.
